Everyone is pretty friendly and chatty. I enjoyed myself and would love to come back, if back in town. Gives a pool hall vibe.

One side is a liquor store, and a door connects it to a rather huge bar. The layout is reminiscent of Big Daddy's. This is definitely a dive bar, and it's essentially everything you want it to be. There's plenty of seating, and there's two pool tables that were definitely in action while I was there. They aren't free -- I think they're $1.25. I also saw a handful of college kids -- definitely more than in The Hall, but it was mostly older folks for sure. As for the drinks.... ~$2 beer from open until 6 PM, and then daily specials begin for the rest of the night. Wednesdays, for example, is $3 Jim Beam, $3.50 Pint Drafts and $3.50 Absolut. I settled for some margaritas that were made quite well. My friend and I were quite content! There was a nice mix of music, and plenty of TVs were around to look at. I even recognized a bartender from my college days who happens to still be around! It felt quite nostalgic. I didn't get any food... I'm not even sure if they have any lol. But regardless I will be returning at some point. Gotta play some pool!

I did know about the existance of this building as the former Armory, but I had know idea what it was used for. I don't know much about its history, but I believe there are Kensington government offices on the upper floors. Kensington does have an active mayor, so I'll assume he has official meetings here. As for my personal experience, it was all about seeing The British Players put on a fantastic show. This troupe has been around for over 50 years bringing British plays and productions to the Washington area. The Group donates much of their profits to British and American charities. It's great that they found their performing home in a building with the same name as a town in England. This building would be an excellent venue for a wedding reception. I'm not sure if they do indeed rent out the space, but there's ample parking in there lot.

Two theatre groups put on productions here that are of outstanding quality - The British Players and the Kensington Arts Theatre. On the second floor of the building is an open area for seating and a stage. Also, other events are held here such as an annual arts show where local painters can display and sell their art. There is ample parking here and nearby on the streets.

The one drawback: pricey to own or rent, though with its location, real estate here is considered to be relatively recession-proof. Living here for the past 15 years has offered my family the best of both worlds - tree canopies, wooded area, a walkable neighborhood, the river and hiking along the canal nearby, a fabulous park dedicated to the arts (complete with artist yurts), all less than three miles from the DC-MD line. The boundaries of the tiny, sliver of a town - its total area is just 0.10 square miles -- are the Potomac River (with Cedar Island and Chautauqua Island between the town and the full river) and MacArthur Boulevard forming the long sides of the rectangle; the short side at one end is close to Wilson Lane, with an entrance to Clara Barton Parkway at the other. The centerpiece of the town is the historic Glen Echo Park (originally an amusement park where Glen Echo residents and their neighbors protested for desegregation). A gorgeous Dentzel carousel, fully restored, graces the park, which is now part of the National Park Service. There are year-round classes and more in dance, theater, music, and the rest of the arts. Neighborhood volunteerism is strong, including ongoing commitments to nature preservation and protecting the watershed in the town (Cabin John Creek and Minnehaha Creek both run through Glen Echo). There are regular organized volunteer outings to remove invasive vines that threaten trees, creek cleanups, and removal of non-native plant species. With its own tiny post office snugged into the quaint Town Hall, folk sculptures gracing porches, family-owned businesses including a pharmacy and hardware store, plus easy access to put your kayak into the Potomac or walk along the Canal (where in the springtime you can discover baby ducks), I find it easy to forget you're just a short distance from the hustle and bustle of the nation's capital. The town's geographical neighbors are Bannockburn, Cabin John, and the Potomac River - all good company. So's the occasional little newt or box turtle I find wandering in my yard. Abundant deer, bunnies, and foxes make appearances as well, and if you sleep with your windows open, you might be lucky enough to have the hoots of owls make you chuckle before bedtime. (If you're unlucky, during mating season you might be kept up for hours by horny - not horned - owls.) Schools for the area in some of the best in all of Maryland: Bannockburn Elementary, Pyle Middle School, and Walt Whitman High School. My kiddo thinks it's the "best place to live, ever!" 'Nuff said.
