A Beer and a Cherry Vodka Slushy are on order!
    MaryJane O.

Second time to this neighborhood spot, first time we couldn't order because although we were OUTSIDE we were told we need masks to order. We came a second time with masks for the outside patio and didn't see anyone else ordering wearing a mask much less wearing them at their seats. But I digress. Definitely THE neighborhood watering hole. It's a liquor store with a large outside patio. If you choose to stay outside there is lots of beer on offer for your enjoyment however for non-beer drinkers the only other alcoholic drink available is a slushy with vodka. That said, this place clearly is a crown pleaser (as the only watering hole in the neighborhood.) I would have to come here again to see if service is better.

Blurry photo, but this is the liquor store next door

I'm gonna break this one down really quick y'all. It's a dive bar attached to a liquor store. Yes, you can get your buzz going in one room, then stumble through the open door and get some more to take home. The store closes at 9pm, last call in the bar area is 1:20am (they close at 1:30am). Beer is $3.50 a pint, they have two pool tables, a Touch Tunes jukebox that isn't cranked up so loud that you can't carry on a conversation. 10 TVs (one shows the Maryland lotto numbers, and another is simulcast horseracing from other states), a pinball machine, 10 to 15 draft beers, tables all around the outer walls, and plenty of bar seating. It's a cool, laid back adult crowd, not rowdy at all, and not full of college kids. The parking lot is a bit on the small side. There you have it folks - all the 411 in 30 seconds (depending on how fast you can read). Peace out!

Very lively last week of business

Sad to see it close this week, great establishment. A great dive bar for locals and the occasional college students that don't kill the vibe. A loss of culture for the area for sure, rip town hall

The Town Hall sign as it used to be

The Town Hall is an institution of ancient heritage with a simple focus. The sign out front used to say LiQUOR FOOD. Forget about eating food here. Fortunately, the TH's focus now is mostly on being what it truly is, a dive bar. In the olden days, it was a hangout for physical science and engineering students, which made it a nerdy dive bar. These days it's generally a mixed adult crowd. All the students are down the street sticking to the floor at the Cornerstone.

I haven't hung out in the bar area for years, but I will say, when I went back here this weekend to pick up a keg from the adjoining liquor store, it smelled exactly the same! Divey, beery, stale, glorious. This is part bar, part alc store in CP that's very different from the bars right by campus. The median age here is significantly higher, and the dress code is significantly lower. There's a small parking lot, pool tables, a juke box machine, and brighter lights than should really be had in a place like this. That said, it's a chill place to hang out without anyone expecting you to be cute or cool or really anything but drunk and somewhat friendly. I'd say more, but like I said, I haven't actually spent time in here for a few years. What I do have recent experience with is the liquor store; the bar and the store are adjoined by a doorway, but you can also enter either through separate doors from the parking lot. The important thing to note here is that they have the best keg prices I know of within convenient driving distance to me (I live in Silver Spring). Huge! A full-size keg of yuengling lite is like $54. If you're not picky about what you're drinking (or at least what your guests are drinking), that is awesome. The deposit, tap included, is $70, and they accept cash only (ATM on site). So, go forth and get wasted! And get many of your friends wasted! It's cheap!

A true dive bar experience. No tabs. Cheap beer. Some of it might even be past its "best by" date. Great staff! Comfortable bar stools.

Although the space is on the smaller side, there was plenty of bar seating, an ample number of booths and the drink prices were a good deal. If I lived a little closer, I could see myself dropping by much more frequently. T he only downside that felt apparent to everyone I came here with, was the strong smell of fried fish. I personally wasn't too phased, assuming it as part of their menu. But the longer we settled in we realized it was coming in from an adjacent business which is incredible hard to control. With that being said, we smelled like fried fish when we got into my friends car and the smell followed us everywhere for the rest of the night. Like I said, I understand that's a hard thing to control but it may be something to be mindful of if you've got anywhere you need to go after. Overall though, totally in love with the laid back vibes here and would definitely return.

Based on my previous experience, I didn't really know how it would be or if I would enjoy myself, but I want it to be open and give it a chance. There was a DJ, and since the last time I came, the booth moved! The afro beats were going strong. It was pretty busy in there, but there was space to sit at the bar. We just got a round of rails and we're satisfied for the night. The Vibes were pretty awesome and both the patrons and the staff were very nice. Now, if I ever want to go anywhere randomly late at night, I can get here in 10 minutes. I should give the food another shot. I wonder if it is improved over time?

With a couple of vegetarians, some picky eaters and a wide variety of tastebuds, there weren't many options but we landed on R J Bentley's. And it was fine. We chose the restaurant because it was featured on the Big Ten Network once for Campus Eats at the University of Maryland. Honestly the food was unremarkable but good enough for lunch. The vegetarians had salads that were 'ok' there was a burger choice, some fried pickles, a crab dip and a giant crab covered pretzel. I had the nachos with chili as a main entree. It was pretty good, but the chili was a bit sweet for a nacho covering. The pretzel stole the show for me, and I fully admit to loving it. The atmosphere was exactly as expected - college bar casual. It was nice to see that, and our server was a current student. He was fantastic (Hi Cole) we enjoyed chatting with him and learning about the area, the university and his studies. He probably wanted us to leave him alone but it wasn't crowded so we just enjoyed chatting with him. He did a great job as a server and ambassador for the U. Three stars feels about right. If I was there at night for a full college bar experience I'm betting the place would make it up to four stars, but for lunch I think 3 is right on the mark.
