It has a rather small parking lot for itself, being a standalone building across from the fire station and that strip where Nu Vegan, bubble tea and other places are. One side is a liquor store, and a door connects it to a rather huge bar. The layout is reminiscent of Big Daddy's. This is definitely a dive bar, and it's essentially everything you want it to be. There's plenty of seating, and there's two pool tables that were definitely in action while I was there. They aren't free -- I think they're $1.25. I also saw a handful of college kids -- definitely more than in The Hall, but it was mostly older folks for sure. As for the drinks.... ~$2 beer from open until 6 PM, and then daily specials begin for the rest of the night. Wednesdays, for example, is $3 Jim Beam, $3.50 Pint Drafts and $3.50 Absolut. I settled for some margaritas that were made quite well. My friend and I were quite content! There was a nice mix of music, and plenty of TVs were around to look at. I even recognized a bartender from my college days who happens to still be around! It felt quite nostalgic. I didn't get any food... I'm not even sure if they have any lol. My husband and I were nearby for his company Christmas Party. We don't live nearby and stayed at the Holiday Inn. We happened upon this place in need of a nightcap. The place was rowdy with college students because of finals week, but the bartenders were super attentive and really friendly regardless. Second time to this neighborhood spot, first time we couldn't order because although we were OUTSIDE we were told we need masks to order. We came a second time with masks for the outside patio and didn't see anyone else ordering wearing a mask much less wearing them at their seats. But I digress. Definitely THE neighborhood watering hole. It's a liquor store with a large outside patio. If you choose to stay outside there is lots of beer on offer for your enjoyment however for non-beer drinkers the only other alcoholic drink available is a slushy with vodka. I'm gonna break this one down really quick y'all. It's a dive bar attached to a liquor store. Yes, you can get your buzz going in one room, then stumble through the open door and get some more to take home. The store closes at 9pm, last call in the bar area is 1:20am (they close at 1:30am). Beer is $3.50 a pint, they have two pool tables, a Touch Tunes jukebox that isn't cranked up so loud that you can't carry on a conversation. 10 TVs (one shows the Maryland lotto numbers, and another is simulcast horseracing from other states), a pinball machine, 10 to 15 draft beers, tables all around the outer walls, and plenty of bar seating. It's a cool, laid back adult crowd, not rowdy at all, and not full of college kids. The parking lot is a bit on the small side. I haven't hung out in the bar area for years, but I will say, when I went back here this weekend to pick up a keg from the adjoining liquor store, it smelled exactly the same! Divey, beery, stale, glorious. This is part bar, part alc store in CP that's very different from the bars right by campus. The median age here is significantly higher, and the dress code is significantly lower. There's a small parking lot, pool tables, a juke box machine, and brighter lights than should really be had in a place like this. That said, it's a chill place to hang out without anyone expecting you to be cute or cool or really anything but drunk and somewhat friendly. I'd say more, but like I said, I haven't actually spent time in here for a few years. What I do have recent experience with is the liquor store; the bar and the store are adjoined by a doorway, but you can also enter either through separate doors from the parking lot. The important thing to note here is that they have the best keg prices I know of within convenient driving distance to me (I live in Silver Spring). Huge! A full-size keg of yuengling lite is like $54. If you're not picky about what you're drinking (or at least what your guests are drinking), that is awesome. The deposit, tap included, is $70, and they accept cash only (ATM on site). So, go forth and get wasted! And get many of your friends wasted! It's cheap! read more

This is a great dive bar yet very well lit, lots of TVs and it's not smelly with spilled beer. It's just the perfect place to hang with old friends, and you can grab stuff to take home also. Town Hall was old already about 1990 when my gradual school buddy and I got beers here on those late evenings when we just couldn't stand schoolwork any more. Anyhow fast forward twenty odd years and it's still the same place! Six of us crowded into a booth that was about 10 degrees off level, I kid you not, it was funny. No table service of course! The bartender sold us pitchers of an outstanding IPA, very fresh and a steal at just $10.50 each. The music was never too loud. Last visit I noticed a booth that sells some kind of junk food but it was unstaffed so we didn't get any food. Anyhow this feels like a place to drink :) not eat. I know nothing about alcohol so when I came in here looking for whiskey to make a holiday dessert, I needed some help. The guy working here was so nice and extremely helpful giving me a quick run down on why you don't always need a high quality liquor in a cooked dessert. He wasn't wrong! This place is divey and is 1/2 bar 1/2 liquor store. But it's cheap and there are less college kids then the other haunts of college park. Not sure I would trust to eat anything here but they serve food if you are braver then I am. But I'm pretty sure you come for the cheap drinks and not the food. Like real cheap. Pinball! This place is the best spot to play pinball in College Park! They have a couple different league nights and some good beers on tap too. Good prices and staff are really nice as well. Went there every day to play some pinball. Note if you go and the machines are off, they are probably working, they just turn them off when they're not in use so power them up or ask the staff to help you. read more

Okay, I've said it once, I'll say it again. I'm a sucker for dive bars, and this is definitely a dive. Yes, it's dirty, and way too bright for a bar of this stature (places like this should be really REALLY dark) but the alcohol is cheap and it's a much better alternative to the nearby College Park bars on nights where you don't feel like fighting for some space with the DMB-playing students just to get a beer. Oh, and by the way, my friend threw up in a garbage can here. The bartender didn't kick her out, just gave her some water. The true sign of a great dive. There's an interesting smell here too, the combo of stale cigarettes that still lingers from the pre-law times and the greasy food (which, by the way, is probably only good after that 5th shot). But with really nice bartenders, and plenty of people to have interesting drunk convos with, I've gone back several times, and probably will many more times. read more

Small liquor store, but with decent selection if you need something quick. The lounge part of TownHall is a great dive bar. If you don't love dives, this is not for you. BUT if you love a good dive bar with good people and good bartenders, go here. Beer is priced better than just right; selection usually has something for everyone. You can also always find someone and hear about some interesting lives. Don't judge based on appearances. Yes there are stuffed animals on the wall and the bathrooms are kind of--ok very-- gross... but it works. The pool tables are perfect, there are pin ball machines, and most importantly, a jukebox. There is always music playing (with the few exceptions of some key sports games) and the variety is great. Finally, College Park has minimal selection of bars which are usually overcrowded with underage undergraduates- rather unpleasant environments. TownHall is strictly non-college folk and some graduate students who frequent quite often. The environment is the best you will find in CP. read more

I've always seen this place driving by, it always looked like a dive. Finally went here looking for a place in CP to play some pool, fancy digs this is not, but we were greatly entertained by one of the regulars singing a song to another patron, "Why don't you just kill yourself". I see someone here referred to them as townies, yeah, that sounds about right. I've been in CP some time now, and I have never run into anyone like that in this area... I love this place - it's exactly what I want from a dive bar. There are pool tables, a jukebox, video games, sports paraphernalia, and taxidermied animals and fish on the walls. The booths are a little wobbly. Nonetheless, the ambiance is casual and the staff and other patrons are friendly. There are very few undergrads here. They have great drink specials daily, and they almost always have a few really great beers on tap (like Troegs). They're cash only, but there's an ATM on site. They don't serve food, but they don't care if you bring in food, either. There are some pizza places in the plaza behind the bar, so you can get food easily. read more

Finally I feel at home! Don't waste your time across the street! The beers are priced at a reasonable price and there is a good selection of microbrews and deals for every night of the week! Well, usually I wouldn't give this kind of place 5 stars: it doesn't look really good, you have to serve yourself (I mean, there are only bartenders), and there's not really food menu there. But in town hall, this is the magic... This place is very old (I think since the 70's). It's cheap (depends on the time of day and kind of beer, but on average, one glass would cost you $4, and pitcher $11), they have large selection of draft beers (and they change them from time to time). There are pool tables, jukebox, you can bring in your own food (and there are several restaurants around), and the college kids don't go there! :) There are many tv screens there, so if there's some game you want to watch they'll screen it for you. First, the place it far too bright inside to be a dive. It feels more like drinking in a post-apocalyptic Walmart. Even dives have a semblance of character. The bartender's service, at least the night I went, was total crap. He displayed the personality of a deflated hemorrhoid on a geriatric jockey. Many pros and many cons. Your bar tender with either be great or terrible. The beer all tastes watered down or ill-kept or something that makes even good beers tasteless. The floor of the bathroom will make your shoes sound sticky for the rest of the day. There really isn't food and Town Hall is cash only. Nevertheless, it's the only dive bar in College Park and the only bar not overrun by frats. If you want a calm bar with friendly people with a few pool tables and pin ball machines, this place is your best bet in College Park. Plus it's cheap and it's got a lot of seating at the bar. Added benefit is that there is a liquor store attached to the bar. So you can take some home with you or stop in for a quick beer before you leave the liquor store. Great for groups because there is always room. It's usually about half full. Good place to hit the bar alone and just chat up the other patrons if that's your thing. The place looks sketch, but it is safe and friendly. I like Town Hall for a number of reasons and I want to love it, but it's got a lot of downsides too. But ultimately where else are you going to drink if you aren't in a frat or sorority in College Park? read more

Town Hall is a magical place. The 'booths' are as comfy as old church pews. The floor is just concrete, the bar stools don't match anything, and there is a stuffed turkey attached to the wall in a dark corner. And yet the drinks are ridiculously cheap, the clientele is decidedly not college-aged (important in College Park, where the Greek scene dominates bar life), and you always have enough space to bring friends. Did I mention the cheap drinks? On Tuesday nights you can pay $2.75 for any microbrew drink (and they have some good ones on tap) and $3.50 for a glass of Knob Creek Bourbon--the same stuff would probably cost you $8 in DC, at least. Plus you get several pool tables to choose from (surface integrity not guaranteed), and a jukebox which has both Van Morrison and Slayer as favorite selections. In short, Town Hall may not be where you go for your anniversary, but it should be your choice every other day of the year. read more

Sticky... everything is sticky. Believe it or not that is a plus. It keeps the "weary" (read "frat-kids") at bay. This is the perfect place to get a cheap pitcher of craft beer, or enjoy the nightly drink specials. The pool tables are uneven, off colored and have probably seen more debauchery than most prison showerheads. Some bar stools have backs, some don't, who cares. Did I mention the sticky? They always have whatever local sports is currently on one of the TVs. They will often hook a laptop up and stream the MD basketball/football game if it isn't being televised. My friend told me there was a good pool/ bar if you was trying to have fun . I said yeah where is it my friend said college park . So we get there they I'd you once you enter the door . So have your I'd even if you're not drinking . I like this place . The staffs were friendly . There specials are crazy too Monday through Saturday except Sunday . What other place would do that ? Great liquor store/bar right next to where I live. I like this place because they are open on Sundays which a lot of liquor stores in the area are not. They have a good selection and a bar attached to the store so the booze is always flowing. I am also a fan of the turnstile gate thing (I don't know what it's called). read more
