Couldn't even taste the eggplant. A traditional eggplant parmigiana does NOT have any peppers. -- as bad as the eggplant parmigiana was, it was better than the lasagna, which was as the absolute worst we ever had. The pasta layers weren't thin and resembled polenta. The cheese layers were practically non-existent cheese. There weren't any layers meat or sauce. For a restaurant where you order at the counter and get your own beverage from the fridge, $60+ is WAY overpriced (especially considering the abysmal quality of the food).

The pole was the tallest in the United States before being surpassed by a pole in Wisconsin which is rather irrelevant because the pole is a good conversation piece during a long road trip more than being visually stunning or awe worthy. While driving, you can guess the size of the flag which is 30' by 60' (if accurate, a flag that is twice as wide as it is tall seems oddly too wide). Or ponder how anyone can fold a flag that is four times larger than most movie screens without violating the rule that the American flag should never touch the ground. Or consider the flag's weight as that much fabric is probably too heavy for a person to lift. Later that day, we drove past another tall flag pole in nearby Merrill, Oregon with similar telescopic design and a comparable-sized 30' by 50' flag like there is a battle of patriotism in this region regarding the length of one's pole.

They definitely grow on you! (Entertainment is sparse in this neck of the woods). For five days this past week the Josephine County fair was in full swing. There is a free shuttle buss that stops right in front of my house every hour. It's like a magic bus that beckons me. I successfully resisted on Tuesday and Wednesday but was drawn to and on that bus each night thereafter through closing. THURSDAY: I'd never seen bull riding up close and personal before. OMG!!! These kids literally risk their lives for the thrill of hanging on to a gigantic, most likely stinky animal. Spunky ass, cuter n' all get out guys on pissed off bulls makes for an exciting time! One Star FRIDAY: I realized shortly after landing at this outpost that I had to give up my drug of choice, shopping. It was not long before I found solace in MOPARS! Suffice it to say I can build 'em and drive the 'em. What joy to see my grandsons appreciate bad ass trucks. At first they were having more fun watching me watch the trucks but after two days, two of my grandsons are firm believers in big blocks and fat trannys. SATURDAY: Monster trucks (see above) and livestock. There are not enough stars in the celestial world to give to the 4-H kids who raise livestock from babies to gigantic animals: loving and caring for them and finally showing them at fair and, in some cases, selling them at auction knowing in the back of their heart, soul and mind that these animals that they have grown to love are going to slaughter. There are definitely a lot of tears shed ... and college educations locked into place with the profits made. FOOD: Now we're talking!!! I become one with the swine that I so love when I get to fair. I had the most amazing, yes I said AMAZING roasted corn on the cob EVER!!! The people that own the Ruch (yes, Cootz, there is a Ruch) Country store have a corn roaster that is about as big as an outhouse and can roast 150-250 ears of corn at a time. Good God in Heaven this is good corn. They only bust this machine out for the fair! Sweet, succulent and ready to be drenched in butter, pepper, Parmesan, hot sauce, Cajun creole spice ... whatever your heart desires. Have you ever eaten so much corn it made you sick? Neither have I but my brother did when we were kids and my grandson did on Friday. Sucked to be them!! You just have to know how to pace yourself. I recommend butter, pepper & Parmesan. I also had a made from scratch corn dog worth mentioning. Culinary nirvana! CARNIVAL RIDES! Not for me, not since the aneurysm burst (except at Disneyland but that's another review). I leave those to the kiddos and they assure me they had fun. HUGE, MEGA PROPS to all who work their butts off for the Josephine County Fair, threatened with extinction. The kids who put their hearts and souls into their projects and down home good kids who sparkle and shine each August. We no longer have libraries. Don't let the fair die too. See ya next year!

It's the end of an era…read more I remember first discovering Lillie Belle's magical chocolate at Phil Lesh's 70th birthday celebration at Bill Graham. It wowed my tastebuds in a profound way. It's been 15 yrs since then. Lillie Belle - closed up shop this month - after 24 yrs of delighting people with their handmade artisan chocolates. Thank you Lillie Belle for bringing so much joy and goodness to the world. Trust. See original review back in 2010 below: For me - chocolate is seeped in nostalgia. I can remember spreading chocolate hazelnut spread on toast in Jakarta. I remember my first Snicker bar in Bali. Lying stomach-down with a Kit-Kat bar - on my great Aunt's carpet in Wales. Playing faux fondue parties with my barbies with a Cadbury Creme Egg in New Jersey My stomach groaning after a trippy Cadbury Factory tour, with excessive free chocolate- in England And the spicy kick of a Lillie Belle Farms' Crunchy Fire Bar comprised of sugared Pecans and Firey Chilis in dark Organic single origin chocolate - at a Furthur show in San Francisco. Given to me by a regal looking nine-year old redhead with a thin purple glow-stick weaved into her braids. As I snapped off pieces of those bars - beneath the moving iridescent colorful lights, while the soaring chords of a guitar wrangled my soul - I felt like I finally understood it all. Understood why. Why chocolate is so alluring. So seductive. I understood - as the brash kick of chile lingered at the back of my throat - intermingled with a coating of bitter sharp dark chocolate. Lillie Belle Farms now has a permanent imprint on my chocolate memories.
