Clearly, I needed to find another dental clinic to continue work on my nasty pie-hole (I'm kidding, guys. My mouth's not that gross). Anyways, I happen by this place via Yelp search, naturally. And let me say...they did not disappoint. This clinic is a smaller one, which I like. Of the two times I've been here so far, it really hasn't been all that packed. While there may be some adjustments needed for their booking procedures (Seriously, I had to get rescheduled 4 times before locking in a solid time. What even IS that?!), they are very quick to check you in once you're locked in for a time. The office is very clean and COVID compliant. For the time being, you still need a mask to enter the building. The reception desk has its plastic shields in place, hand sanitizer, and so forth. But now...the real question that's probably on your mind. How gentle or rough are the dental hygienists? Take this with a grain of salt, as I am a patient whom requires more frequent cleanings as opposed to someone who does NOT have periodontal issues. The cleaning was (much to my surprise) completely painless. Yeah! It probably has to do with the fact that this was just periodontal maintenance rather than a deep cleaning, which I assumed was going to be the case. What that consists of is basically just them taking off the hard stuff more frequently than usual. A "normal" patient only needs a cleaning about every 6 months or so. I go twice as often. So, considering how painless this was, I don't think I'll mind the new schedule as much as I otherwise assumed. Pricing is fair enough. But as I tell everyone, check with the office to verify if they accept your insurance policy first. They're easy to find, located just off of the turnpike. Oh, forgot to mention...I met the head dentist of which this place is rightfully named after. The guy seems pretty chill and very knowledgeable in his craft, but definitely not in a pompous sort of way. That's always a plus for me; when dentists and their hygienists are non-judgmental towards their patients. With all that said, I think we got a keeper here, fellas! I don't even know where to begin, but let me tell you--I hadn't pursued dental care since my late teens (I'm now in my mid-50s) due to a crippling dental fear that made me endure pain rather than visit a provider. At my wit's end, I searched for a dental office that could accommodate my phobia. I happened upon Artisan Dentistry and booked my consultation. I was visibly shaking and dizzy (literally!) with fear as I made my way to his practice and chair. (The office is beautifully and calmly decorated, and his staff is wonderfully trained to deal with us "chickens.") Dr. Mathew immediately greeted me warmly and asked me to talk about myself and my history. He has wonderful bedside manner and is quite gregarious--he genuinely enjoys a good chat. We just talked for about half an hour to an hour, and together we decided to take some careful steps forward. I asked about full sedation, and he was completely open to it and any options I wanted to pursue. I could call the shots at any time and switch sedation plans. He gently suggested that I start with a few teeth cleaning sessions using topical anesthetics and Novocain as needed, guaranteeing that I wouldn't feel anything. I went in for my cleanings, and it was exactly as he described--I didn't feel a thing! Here was the turning point: I asked him point-blank, "So I had some Novocain during my cleanings--is that what you would use if we didn't do sedation dentistry?" "Yes," he said, "the same type of pain management for each part of your mouth that I work on." I said, "You know what? Let's try it." That decision changed everything! For all the massive work that was done, I wasn't sedated in any way! Let me tell you, I've had major work done, and his priority was always pain management. Dr. Mathew literally changed my life by showing me "here is what a medical professional can be." Since being under his care, I no longer fear having minor medical procedures done in other doctors' offices. It turns out my epic teeth issues were only symptoms of the real problem: my fear of dentists (and medical professionals), the perceived loss of control, and procedures that were unknown to me. Yes, Dr. Mathew is at the top of his technical dental game--this is obvious (he loves to talk about the many seminars and practicals he still attends and the new things he's learned)--but for me? His ability to help people like me overcome life-long fear-based obstacles. He removed (extracted, lol?) my fundamental fear. I can't say it any clearer than that. He has done nothing short of changing my life. Oh, and as for my new dental work? The best compliment I get is how nice my teeth look and that I must be hawkish about brushing. They look completely natural, which has changed my face and definitely my smile. And as for being hawkish about brushing? Ha--well, I am now! Thank you, Dr. Mathew and Jaime. On two separate occasions I arrived for appointments only to be told that my hygienist was not available. Again, the office manager claimed that she, "tried to call me." I had no voice mails or missed calls on my phone. TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. I understand the need to be a "for profit," business and I am sure that dentistry has a lot of competition, but the front office experience can make or break a medical/dental practice. I get the impression that neither of the Doctors there are aware of how bad their office manager is running things. I get that you stopped accepting my Delta Dental Insurance (business is business) and I did not mind paying directly and being reimbursed after filing. However, when you add on to that the fifty-fifty chance that my appointment will actually happen or that the only messages I have ever received from the practice come from an automated confirmation drone calling service, It gets to be too much. My question to the Doctors who own this practice is, do you know what your front office manager is doing to your clientele? Do you care?
