Usually have had a decent experience here. Got in before 10 after a long drive to try and walk in to a locked door and no one behind the desk. I had to finally call and the lady appeared. I was quickly checked in which I did appreciate. Not with the same attention I have been in the past but checked in nonetheless. I checked in on the mobile app requesting a late check out of 4pm. I should have realized someone wouldn't go to bat to help but realized my request didn't go through until the morning. I asked as soon as I went down an was told there was nothing she could do since it was too late. I don't doubt she couldn't do anything as she wasn't empowered to do it. Said someone from "sales" would be in and they could help. When I returned, it was the same woman and had to ask if she was able to get someone to help and she said she could do anything. Before that I had asked her to try for a late checkout at 1 which she said was likely the most she could do. That was granted and as disappointed in the failure of the app I was happy to have that since I had no place to go for a few hours. Unfortunately, I don't believe she tried to go above and beyond that. Prior to that, I had come down the evening before to wait for Uber Eats to no one behind the desk again. When she did come out, I asked for a a bag for the ice machine since we don't have a bucket. Was told I'd get a bucket she assured was clean. She came back and offered bowls. Bowls that you'd use for soup or ice cream. Because they don't have any ice buckets. Who is taking their ice buckets? Back to the morning of requesting a late check out, there was no one behind the counter again. Had to wait and the same person from the night before finally showed up. Understaffed? Not empowered? Doesn't care? Idk... disappointed in this stay and see lots of room for improvement. read more

Stayed at this TownePlace for 13 nights. Only had room service twice, had to ask for towels 3 times because they would not even change out my towels. I'm a Lifetime Platinum holder ,over 600 nights and have never stayed at a worse Marriott. I should have known when I checked in around midnight and the desk guy in street clothes was sleeping in the back and the maintenance man had to wake him up. One of the most disappointing hotel experiences I've ever had -- and I travel often. I booked multiple rooms at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Dubuque Downtown for my family, traveling from Los Angeles to Dubuque for my niece's graduation. This was supposed to be a celebratory weekend -- instead, it turned into a logistical and emotional mess, all due to how this hotel handled our fully prepaid reservation. When we arrived, we were told the hotel was overbooked, and without so much as a phone call or warning, half of our party was bumped and relocated to a Holiday Inn -- not even a Marriott property. That's bad enough, but the Holiday Inn had mold in the bathroom, filthy conditions, and somehow charged our family 30% more per night than we were paying at the Marriott. Even worse, our group was split up, and what was supposed to be a special, shared moment turned into stress and frustration. When I asked the staff, I was told by one of the managers that this is "normal policy" -- that overbooking and not offering compensation is just how they operate. I've been a Marriott Bonvoy AND Hyatt member for years, and I've never heard of such a policy being acceptable. And here's the part that really stuck with me: while we stood there being told there were no rooms for us, we watched multiple non-African-American guests check in without issue. I truly hope that wasn't racially motivated -- but it was impossible to ignore how different our treatment felt compared to others. That's not just unprofessional -- that's unacceptable. In July 2025, we drove from Kansas to Wisconsin to celebrate our anniversary with friends. Our first stop in Dubuque was a great way to end our travel day. The TownePlace Suites in downtown Dubuque was really comfy and cozy. The staff was super friendly and helpful, especially Alyssa the manager and Terry at the front desk. We got there early and asked if we could check in sooner. Alyssa found a room right away and let us check in early. She even helped me with something personal, which was really kind. We also asked for a room on the first floor, and they made it happen! Our room was clean and nice. The bed was comfortable and pretty firm, with a soft mattress topper. We liked having a small kitchen with a fridge to store our snacks. The Wi-Fi worked well. The TV was a bit tricky at first, but we figured it out eventually. For breakfast, we had a really good meal before leaving. There were fresh waffles, eggs, bacon, and lots of other options. It wasn't just cereal or toast--there was plenty to eat to start our day. Excellent stay. Modern clean property. Excellent gym, filtered water system. Love the walk in shower and kitchen in my room. Windows that open for fresh air. Excellent staff, breakfast, eating area. The train going by didn't disturb me at 1 am. Thought it might. It didn't, I loved it. We don't have trains in Hawaii, it reminded me of growing up in Ca and the fondness I have of trains in the Midwest. Landscaping was really nice. They have a fire pit and cruise, sit-down area in the front of the hotel. I didn't sit there, but groups of ppl did at sunset and enjoyed their time. Super cool location. Right near downtown, renovated, historic district and walkable to the walking trail along the Mississippi. I loved this place. So central to everything. I stayed 5 nights visiting my Mom, so I got a good feel for this place. Housekeeping and breakfast attendants were super polite and friendly too. Nice experience. Thank you Marriott and Mgr Ms Rodger's and all the staff. 1 thing, the darn HVAC A/C kept coming on when I would turn it off. Bad customer service, the management and the front desk staff are not accommodating at all, not even for the most loyal customers. Flight was delayed and I was stranded in Cedar Rapids and had to get another Marriott hotel near that airport and when I called to modify my reservation from three nights to two nights, they told me that I would have to pay the full amount. additionally, I was not able to get the points for the stay (they said it was a glitch on their system) All in all terrible experience and as a frequent business traveler, I can see that Marriott brand is taking a hit in quality and customer service since they lost their good CEO right before Covid. read more

Train tracks nearby. Train passed by many times overnight, and each one blew horn 10+ times. Guests in other rooms at 1:45AM were extremely loud. Tried calling the front desk to have them address this, and there was no answer. Not a restful night. read more

I travel full time, and I can attest this is a horrible hotel! It is not just the 2:09 am train whistles, or the poorly cleaned rooms, it is the management staff who are rude and disrespectful. If you want a horrible experience, stay here and have your every wish satisfied. read more

We stayed at Townplace Suites a couple nights in a weekend in August. The hotel spotless clean everywhere and well maintained. It was great to have a kitchen area in our room. Breakfast selection and taste was good, however the food wasn't replenished very quickly during breakfast. A brewpub restaurant is conveniently located across the street. read more

This is a new hotel, it is very clean, well designed and nicely appointed. The front desk staff was very friendly and welcoming. There are many bars and restaurants nearby and the location is only about 25 minutes to nearby Galena. I found the bed to be very comfortable, the AC was effective without being too loud. The room was pretty quiet overall, with the exception of hearing the occasional nearby door close and the sound of a passing train now and then--I am a light sleeper and I didn't find these sounds to be overly obtrusive. read more

This hotel opened up in January of 2019 and is one of two Marriott properties in the Dubuque area. Of the two, this Marriott property is far nicer and, I'll admit, it's likely because it is brand new. That said, it is in downtown Dubuque, a neighborhood experiencing a renaissance. The hotel is walking distance from 7 Holla Brewing Company and Brazen Kitchen, two EXCELLENT dining options. The rooms are spacious, clean, have nice walk in showers, a kitchenette and a connected television. There are Keurigs in the room with a variety of K Cups. The hotel also features a very large fitness center and a salt water pool. read more

There are only two Marriott brand hotels in Dubuque, Iowa. This is the newest one located in the industrial downtown of Dubuque. Parking and local eateries are plentiful. The rooms are clean and modern as are the pool and fitness center. The only issue one has to be concerned about is the trains that will blow their horns and wake you up at least 2-3 times after 1 a.m. There are earplugs on the nightstand but the front desk staff never warn you about the noise. If you are fine with this distraction, this is the place for you. read more

This place is excellent! When I select a hotel, I always want the one that is cleanest and newest for the best price. TownePlace definitely fits the bill on all accounts. My husband, son, and I are in the area to visit Galena, IL. Instead of staying in Galena, we decided to stay across the Mississippi in Dubuque. I'm so glad we did. From our first moments on the property, I could tell we made the best choice! The gentleman at the front desk, Rio, was SO helpful. He answered all of our questions and went above beyond to be helpful. He even brought out some cute little packages toys for our son to pick from! Our room is extremely clean and it is obvious that the hotel is newly built. (It was opened in Dec. 2018 and even the hallways still smell new). Like the typical Marriott suites, there is a full refrigerator, a two-burner cooktop, a microwave, a dishwasher, dishes, and all the comforts of home. The bed is comfortable and the room is very inviting. I'm definitely looking forward to the hot breakfast in the morning! We'll definitely plan to stay her again next time we are in the area! read more

Nice hotel just built in Jan. The pool was a little chili but not bad. We requested a top floor room no issue. There is a train that passes through but we run fans so didn't really hear them. Bathrooms are very nice. Everything is clean and front desk lady was friendly. read more
