If I had anything to do with it, they would be given raises and promotions immediately. Below is the long version. I had the pleasure of running into a couple of awesome professionals here last week, Shay and Karen. I parked my car in the lot and went into the Hotel because I had heard the bar area was cool. It was not open yet so they directed me to Yamas, which is a restaurant attached to the hotel where you have to walk outside the back of the hotel to get to it. When I came back and my car was... gone. At first I thought they must have towed it, but was quickly assured by the front desk that they had not. At that point, I was not in a state of panic, but now I have the specifics of my insurance coverage bouncing around in my head and the value of not only the car itself, but the stuff in it. I had had some drinks at Yamas during lunch but I was far from in the bag. I had a clear picture in my head of where I had parked. I have parked in the byzantine streets of big cities plenty of times and have always been able to find my car, and this was just a hotel parking lot. I was ready to call the coppers when Shay and Karen were sent over to deal with the situation. They were kind and sagacious enough to suggest that they go out and walk the lot just to make sure before kicking it to the next level. I was skeptical as I was so sure I knew exactly where I had parked it. 5 minutes later they came back and announced that they had found it... On the other side of the parking lot. At that point I thought I had been pranked by the person who has the spare key, but they swore they had nothing to do with it. And how could they have even known I was there anyway? It is still a mystery as to how it got from where I am sure I had parked it to where they found it. I was hardly wasted, and have never suffered from bouts of acute amnesia, but somehow I must have moved it and forgotten about it. In any case, to conclude this long story, I have no other experience with this hotel yet, but if this is the level of service at the front line staff level, I would highly recommend paying them a visit. I was walking around Eastport on a Saturday, early evening, and decided to check out the hotel. It's right on the lake and has beautiful views. They have an inside/outside bar, facing the water and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy a drink, the music and the lovely scenery of the lake and wildlife. Our bartender was friendly and fast. We decided to sit on a bench watching the sun go down. We also took time to walk around the lobby. It's not big, but it is new and follows the Eastport theming well - it feels kinda retro and modernish at the same time. The hotel also has a restaurant attached to it, Yamas, which is an upscale Mediterranean dining spot. I haven't eaten there yet, but I've heard good things so far. If you stay at the hotel, the room rates are reasonable for the area (compared to the hotels at Brownwood or Lake Sumter) and they have many rooms that face the lake. They also had corn hole and a mini-putting green outside for added enjoyment. Will definitely come back again to check out more that the spot has to offer.

It's walking distance to everything and they give free breakfast vouchers for Cody's just about 1 block away. Breakfast was also awesome! They have complimentary water, tea, coffee, fruit, and other small snacks in the main area. We stayed in the Mr Charlie's room on the first floor and really enjoyed the set up. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in mount Dora and would not hesitate to stay here again. The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Also, we were celebrating an anniversary and they gave us a complimentary bottle of wine which was a very nice treat! Highly recommend this historic Inn to anyone and will be back in the future!

Mt Dora Historic Inn…read more Although the owner, Rachael, is delightful and helpful, by phone and in person, she lives three hours away, so you may never meet her. Calling the property an Inn or Bed-and-Breakfast is a stretch. Despite photos of a six-chair dining table and plated food, no meals are served on-site. Instead, breakfast consists of two vouchers for a sandwich shop two blocks away that does not offer typical breakfast items such as eggs, pancakes, or waffles. The undersized window air conditioner in our small room whirred away 24/7, but it was necessary to also employ the ceiling fan in order to be cool enough to sleep. The drawn shades at each window serve a double purpose, keep out the light yes, but also the hide that the windows haven't seen a squeegee this decade. The pedestal sink (in our room) had the only mirror, so my wife stood up to put on her makeup. I waited my turn to wash hands and face. The toilet and a shower stall shared a separate small room. I think the last time I saw one ply toilet paper was in Boy Scout camp.

It is very clean and the bed is very comfortable. One has access to the living and dinning room areas, which are beautiful and relaxing. The music was also extraordinary! 2)The treatment I received by the hosts, was just beyond expectations: very kind, accommodating, and I felt at home with dear friends. 3) The breakfast is simply unbelievable: gourmet, delicious beyond words and with an amazing assortment of different things (e.g., fresh juices, fresh fruit, French toasts, sausage and roasted apples, and a variety of beverages). 4) It is a blocks from downtown. Spoke with Margie from the beginning, who is the owner and manager of Heron Cay. Super close to town, and they partner with a fantastic transportation service (run by Allan) that will cart you to town as soon as you call (although if you prefer walking it's definitely within walking distance- about 1/2 mile out). Super comfy and homey, I loved how we felt like we were staying with a relative when we were there. We were in the Captain's Loft, which was in a private walk up and on the second floor. Beautiful view of the lake, comfortable bed, and I just couldn't get enough of the decor. Also had a full sized coffee pot with great coffee for use in the room (I love and drink a lot of coffee so this definitely gets bonus points!) Margie serves a beautiful breakfast with delicious home-made bread, fresh cut fruit, eggs, sausage and amazing bread pudding. Coffee and juice as well. She also has super cute Borzoi dogs and kitties that I fell in love with. Don't go to Mount Dora without visiting Margie at Heron Cay Lakeside, really made this the best visit to Mount Dora ever! Our room was very nice with loads of room. We had a small refrigerator and a coffee maker in our room. We had views of the pool and the lake. We were disappointed in the breakfast both days. Fresh fruit and homemade bread were excellent. Unfortunately pumpkin spice bread was served both days. The main breakfast which was an egg dish both days came out so much later and we wanted to get moving, so that was unanticipated. The outside area could be really nice, but it needs a lot of work. The front porch was nice to sit and enjoy being outside.

The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. We we're instructed to go directly to our site after receiving specific email instructions and didn't even talk to anybody the entire time we were here. It is very quiet. This is an equestrian facility that allows people to share in the beauty of their 400 acres. It is the perfect place to decompress. We would absolutely come back here. We gave it two try's and the second time was worse than the first.

What you don't experience is the kind care of the folks who work here. Let's start with CLEAN! Lots of surfaces, lots of wood, and it is all clean and so well maintained. Friendly: the staff is very welcoming and friendly. Always available if you need to call the lift or have a question. Rooms are all furnished with an individual style. Breakfast was great! Just let them know when you think you will head to the dining room and then you order off the menu. Everything we had was great and prepared just for us. My husband was particularly fond of the grits, ordering a double portion once he had tried them! Ip really enjoyed the Cinnamon Toast with Blueberry preserves. Location:Um, did I mention it is right in the midst of Winter Garden? Great spot for walking about and exploring. I also enjoyed grabbing a cup of coffee before breakfast and sitting out front near the Winter Garden fountain, so peaceful. They also have a designated parking lot next to the Inn for cars with tags (which you get a checkin). Highly recommend this spot. If you are put off by having separate hot and cold faucets, maybe pass this up, but if you want an experience and a great stay, definitely check it out and check in!
