This TownePlace was okay, with a few frustrating caveats. The room was clean and spacious, fixtures and furniture were about what you'd expect for this price point. The property had plenty of parking and location was good if you're looking to visit Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains. No issues with wifi or hvac, and staff were friendly at check in. However, their system for water is pretty janky; they have free bottles in a fridge at the snack shop (next to bottles you have to pay for, so choose wisely!). No water filling stations to be had, one was broken. And one ice machine for the entire property. Oof. And then the gym was a let down, so much space but most of it left empty. Only one lonely bench next to the dumbbells, and then come cardio equipment lining another wall. That was it. Not a lot of options in this area but I'd say it's worth a look around. read more

Came by recently with a group of 5. Stay was good, but there were a few easy areas for improvement: 1. The official Marriott site and google maps both show photos of a hot tub. There is no hot tub. 2. No blankets in the closets. They need to be requested at the front desk. 3. The breakfast area ran out of plain oatmeal. Seems like an easily solvable problem in an area with many grocery stores. 4. One of the AC units was quite loud. 5. No sheets or pillows for the sofa bed anywhere in the unit. Had to be requested at the front desk. I did quite like the following: 1. Separate thermostats for the main room and two bedrooms. 2. King beds were quite comfortable. 3. Basic kitchen items available from the front desk. 4. Really nice outdoor grills available if you want to have a cookout. read more

This was a very clean hotel. Rooms are spacious. Bed was very comfortable. Loved that we had a full-size refrigerator and some dishes. We stayed here for 4 nights while visiting the nearby national parks. The breakfast was better than most hotel breakfast bars. Staff were very friendly. Staying in a little town with not a whole lot but we are on a road trip so just passing through I'm very happy that we found this particular hotel by Marriott I Trust because of their brand, we found it clean and quite . we got a two bedroom suite that is perfect for traveling with a family or two couples each bedroom have their own bathroom very roomy bedrooms, bathrooms and living room and kitchen. nice pool outside and this pool has a handicap entrance which was really nice to see. There is also a nice park that kids can play and run, and fast food in walking distance. read more

As far as Carlsbad, NM your choices are limited. We choice the TownPlace because we are Ambassador Elite members. It is a nice place for long stays. We have a kitchen, desk area and small sofa. The bed is comfy, pillows are flat so we did go buy a couple of now Venti fluffy ones. There is Netflix streaming in room which is always nice. Plenty of closest space as well as room to move around. Breakfast is included and it is a typical hotel hot and cold continental breakfast. There is a pool it however needs a good cleaning and some updating. The pictures on their website show a. Ice pool and large hot tub. There is no hot tub! read more

Stayed here on my trip to the caverns. I'd stay here again if I were in the area. Clean and modern world for me in most cases and this place offers just that. The check-in was easy and informative with more than just your standard restaurant list. The place was clean and spacious. It's easy to get anywhere in town from this location too. The breakfast is pretty standard and the coffee downstairs isn't always available or hot. There are certainly worse things and that's actually more common than not. read more

First, places are very limited in Carlsbad. That being said, this is a good place to stay. It's clean and the rooms are new and well appointed. We had a fully stocked kitchen, desk, couch, king bed & large bathroom. It was nice and quiet the first night but unfortunately the upstairs lodger the second night was incredibly heavy footed and loud (sounded like they would come through the ceiling!). The free breakfast was really generous...juices, yogurt, fruit, waffles, oatmeal, cereal, eggs, sausage, etc. So all in all, I would recommend this place in Carlsbad - it's a great place to stay if you're visiting the Caverns. read more

This place is not worth the money. The beds are horrendous. Beds have zero support. Springs in the back. Breakfast was mediocre. I stayed on the 3rd floor and there's a hole in the floor under the carpet. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Hopefully they don't have OSHA show up for a random inspection. It's unbelievable to me that people pay nearly $300 for this place! Unfortunately I can't give a zero star review. Also, they told me at the front desk that they couldn't upgrade me (which is fine. No big deal.) But when I looked at the rooms on my app, it showed there were rooms available for an upgrade. However they said that Marriott puts more rooms than available so they get overbooked. Its 9:15am. I am recounting my experience with this locations breakfast today: Arrive 8:40. Bold coffee empty. Mild has enough for 1/3 of a cup. No eggs. No ham. No muffins. No milk. No forks. No large plates What is here? A long line foe what they do have....waffles. But they only have one waffle maker so it obviously takes forever No attendant to be found. Nobody has seen one. After alerting the front desk, 10 minutes later stuff starts appearing albeit super slow. The rest of the place is super which saves the review at 3 starts. My boyfriend and I had a good stay here. We chose this hotel due it's proximity to Carlsbad Cavern National Park. The location was great because it was right off the major road, about 30 min away from Carlsbad Cavern NP, and near a bunch of restaurants and a convenient store. The staff were very friendly and accommodating especially since they let us check in early than the expected 3 pm check in time. It was very convenient so that we could drop off our stuff, change into our hiking clothes, and head to the park. We booked a room with a king bed for one night. We found our room to be nice, modern, and clean. The bed was also comfy especially after our long day at Carlsbad Cavern NP. In addition, our room had a small kitchen with a fridge, microwave, sink, and mini stove. Great perks of this hotel include free parking, daily complementary breakfast, and free WiFi (which was extremely fast and we had no issues using). Checking in and out was super easy and quick through the Marriott mobile app. I definitely recommend this hotel if you're looking for a place to stay while visiting Carlsbad Cavern NP. It's also one of the nicer hotels in Carlsbad compared to the other hotels. If we happen to be back in town, we will be sure to stay here. read more

If you want to watch a little tv in the evening make sure you find a channel you will watch all evening. If not you will have to move the cabinet and unplug the tv and cable and plug it back in to reset. But sometimes that does not work and no tv. The internet is a joke. Cannot watch anything on your devices without buffering constantly. No in room coffee because they are using up what they have. Housekeeping and staff are wonderful. read more

A Wonderful Start to My Birthday Weekend I spent the first night of my birthday weekend trip at this hotel. My sister and I had a wonderful experience. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and were quickly checked in. We shared a very spacious and modern room, complete with two comfortable queen beds and quality linens in the room. The noise insulation between rooms was great. The hotel is located on the far end of town, perfect for waking up early to head to Carlsbad National Park and the Carlsbad Caverns. The hotel is across the street from the parking lot, where there is a tasty Mexican food truck. I highly recommend grabbing tacos from there. The room is high value for the money you're spending. Whether you spend one night or one week, you'll have a wonderful stay at this hotel. read more

This is one of the newer hotels in Carlsbad. They opened in March. It has a really cool design. The outside has a modern lodge type feel. The interior colors are really different for a hotel. The rooms have your standard TPS kitchenette with good amenities in the way of dishware, pots, measuring cups, etc. Everything you'd need for an extended stay. The room itself seemed kind of small with the bedroom area being a bit cramped. But the desk was really good size with plenty of outlets for work. The bathroom was big too. The main closet is in the bathroom which I had not seen before. The lighting was good in the main bathroom and shower area. The gym was excellent. It was really big with plenty of cardio options. Their weight set had a good variety of poundage - thanks for thinking of us ladies! Their water cooler was empty the morning I was there, so they brought chilled, bottled water to everyone which leads me to their fantastic service. Everyone at this hotel was super friendly and helpful. Parking and wifi are free. They have a free hot breakfast with plenty of options. It is a really great extended stay facility. The only drawback is it's an expensive stay. read more

Great new hotel and close to Carlsbad caverns. We stayed here for two nights and breakfast was great plus cookies and popcorn at night. Rooms were clean and comfortable and plenty of space with closets mini kitchen. Room enough for 3 of us. Location isn't all that great -it's across from a car wash and there were homeless in the park beside it. Not walkable to any location. read more

We stayed in a King Suite, and the room was clean and spacious. However, I was not impressed with the staff at all. Our room was not ready until about 4pm, and the check in time is stated on the website to be 3pm. Things happen, but the receptionist was not apologetic at all. I also had asked about which side to park for our room since we had lots of luggage with us, and the front desk had to check a map(which is fine), but got it wrong anyway. I had just gotten Gold Elite status, so I asked if I would be reimbursed for premium internet or if there was a code, and the front desk couldn't answer my question. There is also construction next to the building, and although the hotel is not at fault for the noise, it is something to consider. read more

We have been in this hotel for over a month. Room is always clean as well as the rest of the hotel. ALL of the staff is friendly, and made our transition to the area so much easier. Truly can not say enough how much we love the people who keep the Hotel running smoothly. They treated our Great Danes like royalty, and the pet deposit seemed reasonable to us. We had a spacious two bedroom suite that was very quiet and had everything we needed. Love the two big grills and seating area poolside. Lots of easy parking for all our oversized vehicles. Lots of breakfast options, and fresh, warm cookies and chilled milk in the evenings are a nice homey touch. Thankful we found this place to stay. read more

Very clean and friendly staff! Pool was perfect for both of of my kids. They have this cool ramp which was perfect for my son (he can't swim yet). My husband was super excited about the biscuits and gravy they serve in the morning. I was happy about the amount of healthy options. read more

Been staying here since opening, was great at first. A one or two night stay, sure it's expensive, but it's oil country. Although, if your in the oil business, no discount for extended stays, service is crap, had to clean our room three days, even after we asked and demanded, still no service. FANTASTIC! We are a family of 6 and often have to rent houses or adjoining rooms etc. We got the 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suite. It was clean, organized, comfortable and spacious. The pool, hot tub, and outdoor lounge were wonderful. The breakfast was great and had a lot of options. The only thing I would suggest is that they buy a second waffle maker as there was always a line and that they check in more frequently as some of the food items sat empty for awhile until we told the front desk. This will make the busy breakfast run more smoothly. Other than that the stay was amazing. read more

I've been a Marriott member for at least 20 years, and we've gone to Marriotts frequently during that period. About 2 months in advance, I made a guaranteed reservation at TownePlace Suites in Carlsbad for 2 rooms. On the arrival date, we phoned at 1 pm to check in, explaining that we would not actually arrive until after 9 pm. Check-in was confirmed, although the clerk said she couldn't get the two rooms near one another. Around 9:00 pm we arrived and were told that because of overbooking, one of our confirmed checked-in rooms would instead be at a different Marriott which was 3 miles away, and to compensate us for the inconvenience, the 2nd room would be free. Our group had 2 senior citizens, one adult, one 7 year old, and 1 car. How could it possibly be ok to have two rooms that were 3 miles apart?! It took over an hour of negotiation until it was established that we could have both rooms at the other Marriott, one free and one at half price. It turned out that half price at that Marriott was $5 MORE than full price at the original Marriott. But the new rooms were fine, and we all finally got to sleep at 10:30pm, having been awake for 19 hours through one plane trip and 5 hours of driving. read more

Clean, good wifi, excellent AC (for those who like it really cool in their room) and breakfast included, BUT foul petroleum smell depending on the wind direction. The room was reserved with points, and upon arriving at 8pm, was informed that this was the last room, and that it had been tagged as "Service Needed" room, and just needed to be untagged in order for me to be allowed to have it. After the attendant spent 5-8 minutes on the phone getting instruction on how to do this, he informed me that if there was anything wrong with the room, he'd gladly refund the points, and that I'd need to find another place to stay. From an outward appearance, everything was perfect. There were no odd smells, no signs of a previously created mess, no water stains....perfect. As mentioned in the previous review, the bathroom could have been designed to be a little smaller, giving the kitchen area a little more space, but no big deal. Since I like sleeping in a cold room, I turned the AC on just before retiring, and set it from 73 down to 68 instead of my usual 65 or colder, since it'll be under 32 outside tonight. During my slumber, I rolled over and noticed a foul smell, sometime around 3a. I recognized the smell as being the exhaust from the oilfield to the south that I'd driven through on the way here (from I10 to here is a HUGE oilfield, and they're burning off the 'natural' gas instead of saving it, perhaps because we have a glut of petroleum products at the moment). Since this gas is unrefined, it leaves a noxious odor. Apparently the wind switched last night around 3a, and inundated Carlsbad with this ocean of stench. For awhile, I thought I could ignore the smell and go back to bed. But by 5a, I succumbed, and got up early, wanting to check the hallway to see if it had the same smell as the room. I hoped to maybe open the room door, put the AC unit on recirculate, and dump this odor into the main hallway. Unfortunately, the hallway seemed to have the same problem, but the main floor of the hotel, didn't.....after further investigation. I asked the attendant about the smell, and she said that there was a refinery in a town up north, and from time to time it can get particularly bad here. She also said that it typically clears up mid morning. I DID find the reason that the room was tagged for service. The toilet bowl wasn't correctly seated and it wobbles from front to back when using it. It needs to be shimmed before being re-caulked. Also, this facility uses a water softener. I'm not a big fan, but can tolerate the feeling of never being completely rinsed off in the shower and washing my hands. I'm just noting it for those who can't get over it, or love the feeling of soft water. The acoustics are OK. I did hear someone on the 3rd floor (above me) move around at about the same time that I began to smell the petroleum stench (~3a), but I've heard much worse (San Antonio, the previous night). As mentioned in the previous review, the place is expensive, but might be worth it since it's new and aside from the few hiccups, a quite worthy place to stay. Next Time: Get the room cooled off before the sea of stench sets in and turn the AC unit off before retiring. read more
