The swim instuctors have taken the time to get to know my son. They know what motivates him. They have used their knowledge base and taught my son comfort in the water. We enjoyed several weeks of decent swim lessons there for my kids (ages 4 and 7 at the time) until my son (age 4) got his head shoved underwater WITHOUT warning by a swim instructor. He came up coughing and gasping for air, and we were done immediately. I talked to someone at Goldfish about it and they seemed to "care" and were "sorry." I asked them to remove me from all their contact lists, to never contact me for anything ever. I cancelled our membership in writing that week. The prices were absurd anyway so it's for the best. That was 2 years ago. Since then, Goldfish has called me 6 times. Every time I have asked them to STOP CALLING me. They seem to understand I don't want contacted but this morning I got another phone call asking if I want to have my son's birthday party at Goldfish. ZERO stars. ZERO.

Here it is open much longer hours and I can go pretty much when it's convenient for me, unless I want to go during their 1 - 2 PM lunch hour. Lots of activities and classes. Another advantage is the fact that the pool does have a deep (12 foot) end; a lot of public pools don't have a deep end like that, and for my exercise, that makes them useless.

Also, you never feel insecure while working out here for some reason. I really feel at home here and everyone is friendly and more than happy to help. I take the kids swimming and even to work out since they have a youth workout room with age appropriate equipment. The basketball court is usually available and the raquetball courts aren too. They even have raquets if you need them. I prefer the Y to the rec center and will be a member for life.

That alone is a frustrating waste of time, but what happened next was far more disappointing. When I attempted to use a day pass for pool access -- an option clearly advertised on their own website -- staff refused to honor it. No explanation, no attempt to find a solution, no offer to sign me up for a membership that would have allowed access. Instead, I was told to "go to a public pool." Let that sink in. A paying customer, attempting to use a service the organization publicly advertises, was turned away and redirected to a public pool -- with zero effort made to retain my business or treat me with basic dignity. The experience felt deeply unwelcoming, and the manner in which I was dismissed did not feel coincidental. As a Black woman, being turned away without options, without alternatives, and without even the courtesy of a membership offer -- while others were not treated the same way -- speaks to a larger culture issue within this location. The YMCA markets itself as a community organization built on inclusion and access for all. This location's staff did not reflect those values on this day. Leadership needs to seriously examine how their staff engages with customers of color, retrain accordingly, and ensure that what is on their website is actually honored at the door. I have documented this experience and am following up through the appropriate channels. This is not the end of this conversation. If I could give it zero stars I would.

Weekday afternoons, high-school students run the place and they are/can be obnoxious, run the machines and don't clean equipment when finished. I was told somebody monitors, but I never saw anyone. So I try not to come when they are there. Weekday mornings are extremely busy. Hard to get a workout done in an hour since everyone is using the equipment. I do love the equipment, it's just hard to fine a good time to get in there.

Her primary instructor (Mr. Tylen) is kind and patient and her secondary instructor (Ms. Seanna) is fun and friendly. Both instructors are focused on leveling up her skills and work with her consistently and provide clear instructions. The admin staff has also been great and they are very responsive, especially via text which is so convenient. Staff turnover seems low since we've consistently seen the same instructors/lifeguards/deck supervisors over the past few months.
