I've been a fan of t pumps ever since they blew up a couple years ago even before the sf location opened. Ahhh, memories of taking the bus all the way to San Mateo just for some boba. Good times. My go to drink is the passion mango peach black milk tea with boba. To be honest, all their black milk teas taste the same to me. I could sub almond roca or coconut and the drink will still taste the same. That's probably the downfall.. but it is a really tasty milk tea. The S.O suggested we try this place since whenever he passes by here on his motorcycle ride he sees such a long line for it. I hate waiting in lines, but since we took the time to drive all the way there we decided to just stick it out. We came in the afternoon on a weekend and luckily the line was only JUST out the door. (Right after we stood in line the line got even longer almost to the crosswalk). So the wait was a chore, especially when once we did finally make it past the door (20 minutes in itself) the inside of the place was ridiculously hot. We almost passed out before we even reached the register. We decided to order our go-to standard drinks: boba milk tea and a boba green milk tea. The drinks themselves actually got made pretty quickly, so I don't know why it takes so long just to get your order in. (50 minutes waiting in line + 10 minutes to wait for both drinks). We took them outside because of how stuffy it was plus they don't really have seating besides a waiting/bench area. So the regular size is around $3 and it's a pretty big cup. The drink itself though...AWFUL. I mean it was still drinkable but I don't know how they call that a boba drink. It just tasted like iced sweetened (watered-down) milk. The only reason I drank half of it was because the boba balls themselves were good but they only put in about 5-7....once those all disappeared I couldn't finish the rest. Overall major fail and definitely don't think it's worth the hype. Tpumps was cool in high school because it was convenient. There have majority fruit flavors to choose from where u can mix n match. You also have the option to choose your sweetness, black/green tea/ toppings/ yes to no milk.. The line always tend to be long with high school/ middle school kids... and never ending. Despite it being just average in milk tea drinks ... it was still better than teaway which closed down and got replaced with some new boba shop and quicklys. Would come here for a semi last resort nowadays. I think what made it special before was that it only existed in the san mateo location and then San Francisco but now since it has expanded and the hype has died... it only remains mediocre at most. For flavors.. i am sucker for anything that is mango, watermelon, or litchi related so a blend of that would suffice me. Well, it was fast, sort of efficient and not very tasty, in fact I couldn't finish what I ordered and felt like I flushed my dinero down the drain. The line here is just as long as the San Mateo location. Their fan base is so passionate and loyal. I really wish I could be as excited as these people are with their drinks because very few things in the world make me happier than a cup of milk tea that's smooth, aromatic, bold, rich, and full-bodied. I was very disappointed with the San Mateo location, but my super awesome friend asked me if I wanted to try the new Sunset location when she was already waiting in line. I decided to give them another shot, and she picked up a black milk tea and a green milk tea. When we met, the first thing I immediately noticed was how pale both the drinks were. They were both just an off-white cream color, and I knew all hope was lost at that point. I first took a sip of the black milk tea, and it was completely devoid of any tea flavor. There was no boldness or richness. I really thought it just tasted like Coffee-mate with water. The green milk tea pretty much had the same flavor. There actually was a very slight hint of the floral flavors from jasmine tea, but the dominant flavor was still Coffee-mate water. I felt so bad for my friend because she had to wait so long, and she didn't like the drinks at all either :( Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing people come here more for the fruity flavors and boba. If you're looking for decent milk tea, I'd recommend staying away from here. I normally don't like giving out 1 star ratings, but the line was way too absurd for awful milk tea. Always a fan of tpump (San Mateo location) despite the long line. But this new location is different. 1) the line seems short but the wait is longer probably due to new staff 2) no tea samples when we wait which make the wait seems longer 3) the usual drink that I always order taste so baddddddd! I mean I am a big milk tea fan, hardly any tea will taste bad to me. But this time I meant it! Even quickly makes better milk tea than this! CAUTION: taro milk tea cost 50cent more than other milk tea but it is NOT noted on the menu and the cashier won't bother to notify such difference. If you order more than one drink (like I did) you won't know the difference unless you check the receipt. I went ahead for clarification and the answer was 1) they need to put taro in the milk tea and will consider an extra topping 2) menu is not updated. The extra is a small amount but they should at least let the customer knows. Honesty and clarity are the keys to successful business. And the teas taste so bad. My tapioca balls were salty. I thought someone put sweat on them. They tasted like sweaty balls. I came on a Thursday night around 7pm. The line was at the door so I decided to finally try Tpumps 14 days after its launch. I can't say which was worse, the 20 minute wait or the high school girls talking behind me. The lychee black milk tea was decent. It didn't have much of a tea taste and had a powdery consistency. The weird part of the drink was the salty tapioca. I thought I was imagining at first. Nope, the tapioca was definitely salty. Not sure if they soaked them in salt water but it was just odd. My tummy gives Tpumps...2 Stars! read more

The line was hella short when I went, so I was like "hey why not?" If you like milk tea like myself don't come here. The milk tea isn't very good and is watered down. I have never been to tpumps before and I asked the cashier which drink I should get and she suggested and she said milk tea.... yuck. I asked a friend the next day and she said the teas are better. She heard the milk teas aren't very good either. I wish the cashier told me!!!! Geez... I couldn't wait to get home just to Yelp how crappy the milk tea was. I think what makes this place special is the fact that you can customize and mix flavors anyway you want. Besides that, I think it isn't worth the wait. When I went, it took about 1 hour for the entire process. What surprised me was that they use Torani syrups to flavor the teas and CoffeeMate creamer for the "milk" in the milk tea. Tried to pass up boba for the day, but let's be real. I'm with the Black Eyed Peas, I just can't get enough. Came here with the roommate Eric J. after taking him out to dinner for his big 21. It looks like a club from the outside, throwin' boba raves and functions without me. The inside is nothing more than a big open floor, a bench on the side, and four flat screen menus up front that map out how to order a drink. They might as well be pumpin' up boba parties with all that open space. Sorry, but can't relate to the wait! We came in right before the Asian invasion and were first in line to order. Getting our drinks didn't take long either, probably about 10 minutes. Now here's the problem. Ordering a drink has never been so hard. My cousin Bon Qui Qui can't be workin' here because it's a complicated order every time somebody come through. You gotta pick the size, flavors, tea, milk, sweetness, and toppings. Like dang, who are y'all asking me all these questions, the boba police?! This ain't build-a-boba workshop! The whole Burger King "have it your way" getup is cute and all, but it's always a tough call for me with one too many options and ain't nobody got time for that. For an order that was longer than the Great Wall of China, I was surprised that the total was only $4.05. I was expecting to break bank, but this place is easily the best boba bang for your buck! I don't know what goes into these drinks, but they're definitely syrup- and powder-based. I don't do artificial flavors with boba, so they need to go across the street and buy some fruit from the supermarket. All that powder made my drink too dense and left my throat feeling dry and raspy. Also, with a gallon-sized cup in hand, I have no idea why this place gives like a teaspoon of boba. What the hell, this ain't Macklemore with the thrift shop, y'all need to quit bein' cheap and hook my drink up. From texture to taste, the quality was on point, but the quantity nearly had me bustin' out some Britney Spears moves and hittin' that Gimme More. Yes. This place has mile long lines. Yes. They give you so little boba, you have to ask for extra. Yes. There are so many other boba places that you ever wonder why you picked this one. BUT I still ignore all of the above to come to this place. I find that the drinks at this place are very different from other boba places. The drinks are very light, versus the rich and heavy drinks at other places. The boba is the perfect texture, and even though they don't give you that much, I find that it's the perfect boba/drink ratio. (at other places, i run out of my drink and am left with tons of boba left over. You also have to realize that the boba comes free with the drink, unlike other places, so you really shouldn't complain about the amount of boba. I like how you can also be creative with your drinks (you can pick what flavors you want, if you want milk, black/green tea, etc). My usual go to is any mix of passionfruit, mango, peach, lychee, and coconut. Get this with black milk tea, light on the sweet, and you're set! :) read more

My prayers have been answered! Now I can go to Tpumps and it's right around my hood. I don't know why everyone is hating so hard on this place. Yes, the lines are pretty ferocious. Yes, the wait is a little bit longer (but not ridiculous). I have to say Tpumps is probably one of my favorite spots for milk tea. Why, you ask? I love milk tea in general, but the typical milk tea tastes 90% of some sort of creamy milk substitute of some kind and is sweet. Here at Tpumps, you can taste the actual flavor it's supposed to be AND taste the tea flavor. Pick less sweet if you don't want too much "corn syrup" in your drink. People who complain that it's too sweet or the creamer has trans fat or whatever, um, why are you drinking milk tea anyway? Stick to water if you're so health conscious. Samples are given to you while you wait. Everything that I've had here has been pretty good so far. Their boba is cooked perfectly with a slight sweetness. (no extra charge for one topping!) Very mixed bag. Tpumps features some really good flavors and flavor combinations but also really long wait times and seriously inconsistent drink makers. For a while now, I had been hearing all about Tpumps so I decided to give it a try. I was able to sample a couple different flavors waiting in line as there was a server walking up and down giving samples. I was pretty impressed. I ended up going with my old standby Almond Milk Black tea. The resulting drink was pretty darn good. First off their boba was really really good. It had a nice texture and subtle sweetness. The drink had a lot of almost flavor with a nice balance of sweetness...probably from all the powdered creamer they use! A couple days later I headed back and wow what a difference. First off, school must have seriously just gotten out because the line was out the door and a few store fronts down. Secondly, I ordered the exact same drink but in my haste to get out of there because the 45 mins I put in the meter was quickly running out. I didn't try my drink until i was a few blocks away and it was totally barren of any flavor. Thats when I thought back and was like, "hmm that is probably why 2 people ahead of me had their drinks remade." In any event I already lost my parking spot and I wasn't about to go try and find another spot, trudge back over to get the drink re-made. I already learned my lesson...nope not again... read more

This has to be my favorite Tea spot. I've gone to Ten Ren, Fantasia, Teaway and others of the like and all of them tasted the same; flavored water with ice and boba. However, T pumps was different. It had a tea taste plus the flavor. I had a coconut slush with popping boba and my girlfriend had a passion fruit drink. She enjoyed the boba as it was the best textured one she's had. Typically, it is either too soft or too hard but apparently it was perfect. We were both surprised to actually taste tea in our drinks rather than just an overwhelming flavor. With that being said, I am not saying other places are bad, they are rather quite good. But it was a pleasant surprise to have that hint of tea taste. read more

Very poor quality compared to the San Mateo TPumps. What can I say? The original place where it all began will always be the best. To my surprise today, I realized they bumped their price up from a 3.50$ Pumpbo to a 4.05$ Pumpbo. I would definitely make the trip to San Mateo to save a bit of money, especially if I'm buying multiple drinks. What really disappointed me however was their new limit on the amount of flavors you can get with a drink. It is now a 1$ charge if you get more than 3 flavors with your milk tea. That's ridiculous. TPumps is known to be great for mixing flavors, and this new policy completely destroys this purpose. How cheap can an establishment with such a high fan base get? To finish this review off, all of my drinks (7) were under-filled. I could not believe it when I saw them notice this flaw and just add ice to make it seem like it was full. That is not professional. I hate this place with a fucking passion. If I could give this place a negative, I WOULD! There is absolutely no system to how the drinks are made. I made ONE order and had to wait 20 minutes for my drink while people who ordered after me, received their orders first!! That is fucking ridiculous!! There were customers who had ordered before me and were STILL WAITING for their order even after I received my drink. How hard is it to fucking create an assembly line?? WHY ARE THE ORDERS BEING MADE LEFT AND RIGHT??? WHY IS THERE NO SYSTEM FOR THIS FUCKING PLACE?? It wasn't even as if they were understaffed! There were two girls at the register, three girls making the drinks, one girl calling out the orders (who had the SOFTEST voice in the world), and at least two more guys behind the back wall. If someone ordered five drinks, why weren't they all given at the same time?? I saw this one girl who had to double check with the employees to make sure she was actually going to get all five of her drinks because she had received three first, and her last two wasn't made until 10 minutes later. AND HOW DO I KNOW THIS??? IT'S BECAUSE SHE ORDERED AFTER ME AND GOT HER DRINKS BEFORE ME, THAT'S HOW I FUCKING KNOW. After 20 minutes of bullshit wait time, I finally got my red bean drink that tasted awful and I tossed it into their trashcan before I left the store. One of the draws to my new place in the Sunset was "prime Tpumps location!" which led me to believe that this would be a quality place. I'll admit I was intrigued with their pretty menu and list of favourite drinks, but when I looked behind the counter I was disappointed to see that the flavours were just a plethora of sugar syrups that come from those barista pump things. I know, I know.. bubble tea isn't exactly the most authentic/healthy tea experience you could have, but I was expecting a little more. On the plus side, no complaints about the service. I ordered a simple peach green tea with boba and with less sugar, but I may as well have just ordered a glass of sugar water to go. I really wasn't impressed with what I had, but it seems to be all the rage with the teens in the neighbourhood. I wish I could relive the days where it was thrilling to cut class and feel proud that I could actually dish out $3.50 for a drink. Then my friends and I would group all our drinks together (of course our straw colours would be carefully coordinated) for a picture we could post on whatever social media site with the hashtag #bobawithbesties or some garbage like that. Then maybe Josh from math class would notice the picture and we could have a "will-they-won't-they" romance that we could relive through our happy years together. But I'm not 13. Would have given it 4 stars but the wait is just too ridiculously long. My boyfriend and I had 1.5 hours before our dinner reservation so we decided to walk around Sunset and try some boba. We stopped at Wonderful Foods Co. first and then saw that TPumps just opened up, so we got in line. Thank goodness we had such a long wait before dinner, because otherwise I would never have even stepped in that line. It moved RIDICULOUSLY SLOWLY. I was definitely channeling my inner Meryl Streep while I was in line - "By all means, move at a glacial pace...you know how that thrills me..." (Devil Wears Prada anyone?!) We waited in line for 40 MINUTES to get a drink. What seems to be slowing the whole place down is the speed that their cashiers take orders. I think they need a more efficient system than just writing everything down on the cup - either they need to write faster, think of some acronyms, or just computerize all the orders like a Jamba Juice would. Their current operations structure has absolutely no way to handle the demand. My boyfriend and I shared a normal sized peach mango green tea. It was really good and sweet, but tasted nothing like tea - definitely tasted more like a really yummy Yakult yogurt or milk. I'm not complaining about the taste, but you should know what you are getting into if you are expecting any remote tea taste. Drove to SF from Oakland to check out Tpumps. It's been long overdue. I'm always down to try new milk tea places in the East Bay! I never been to a milk tea place that didn't sell traditional flavors (Earl grey, thai, taro, etc) so this was most definitely a different experience. Parking is extremely hard to find in SF, but I got lucky haha! The line was long, but it went by fast. I asked the cashier which drink she would personally recommend because the drinks on the customers favorites board didn't catch my eye. I ended up ordering a pumpbo (~$4.50) "Strawberry peach rose milk tea" with no toppings. Although I love milk tea, I don't like boba. I wish they had a big topping selection like most milk tea places. My go to toppings are agar boba, small boba, or grass jelly, but they didn't have it. What a bummer. The price for a pumpbo size is genuinely cheap. Now on to the taste of my drink. It's pretty decent, but I wouldn't come all the way to SF again. read more

There's always a line here, but I felt like after I donated about 10 bags of my old clothes to the nearby goodwill. So I ended up walking in to a line that was probably about 20 people deep. Not too bad - I thought. There were samples being passed around (not too good), but I ended up getting a taro black milk tea with honey boba. I think the price is really good for the size, and there's so many flavors. It is a nice refreshing drink on any day. The boba is also cooked the way i like, sweet and not too chewy. It is a lot cheaper than other boba places in any area. It is also on a very popular street with other delicious restaurants and Cafe's so it makes a nice dessert after dinner. read more

This is my first time , I went to Tpumps on 3/2 around 12:50pm. When I ordered my drink the cashier asked me how sweet I wanted my drink and I told her 80%. She complained so loud talked to other workers that I asked for 80%. She was not professional, had poor customer service and was super rude to me. if you're okay with inoffensive teas and cheap is a bonus then this will do. However, their drinks clearly lack the fragrance and flavor of even decent tea cafes. The strength and flavor is akin to trying to use one tea bag for two batches and then adding sugar. The hint of flavor is there but even when you're done with their generously size smaller cup, you're still stuck wanting more. This is one of those "doesn't live up to the hype" places... if you don't know your options. Get up to three flavors (all listed on the board) mixed together. One topping (I always go with honey boba) comes with your drink. Not enough people know that if you don't like your drink (too sweet, not sweet enough, etc.), they will adjust it for you. It takes a minute; might as well put in the effort to have a drink you actually like. And yes, they're busy, but they care enough to give you a good product. So ask! Also, you can request level of sweetness (I usually get less sweet) + less ice, so that your drink doesn't get diluted on the way home. Tastes best fresh, the second it's handed to you by a tea-rista (is that what they're called?). I feel my patience tested every time I go on a weekday in the after school rush, but it's worth it. Clearly I/we don't have something better to do if we have 20-40 min to wait for a boba drink anyway, right?! Complaints about wait time are invalid; you knew what you were getting yourself into, and I honestly think Tpumps is refreshing, delicious, and friendly enough to warrant the line. The owner is so nice! And if I can survive the nonstop drama / random teen banter for a cup of tea, you can too. Trust. Come here with friends so you chat through the wait and debate flavors! I like that you can combine different flavors on their menu. There's very little seating inside despite the place being fairly spacious so it's not a good place to hang out. I got a large taro smoothie ($5). It's HUGE. The people next to me were also in shock at the serving size. Ideal for sharing with another person. Ordered milk tea tapoica, the tapoica was good, but the milk tea was mediocre. And you have to wait at least 20 mins to get your drink after waiting at least 20 mins in line to order your drink. I ordered two drinks today. Mango black milk tea and strawberry passion green tea. The mango milk tea tasted more diluted than the previous time I got it so it wasn't that good. The strawberry passion green tea was good. However, halfway through my drink, I noticed a black mark on INSIDE of my mango BMT cup. I noticed that part of my name on the strawberry passion GT cup was smudged, which matched the same marking on the inside of my mango BMT cup. I noticed that they stack cups after taking orders which is probably why there was a mark on the inside of my cup. I find this very unsanitary (touching and writing on cups then stacking them) and should be changed. read more

Forever my fave boba spot!! I used to love grabbing a drink here when I used to live in norcal so of course I had to stop by when I came up to SF for a weekend trip. We came at around 4:30pm on a Saturday and the line was out the door. From the time we got there til the moment we got our drinks, I'd say the total wait was around 30-35 min. I love how they're always giving out free samples, especially of unique flavor combos. That way I get to try out something new that I never would have thought of. They have a lot of flavor options to choose from and you get to pick up to three. You can have it with milk or no milk, adjust the sweetness and add boba or aloe or jelly and stuff. Near the cashier they have a menu of popular flavor combos that you can just choose from instead of creating one yourself. My go-to order is peach, passionfruit, and strawberry green tea with normal sweetness and boba. I used to like adding milk but stopped after realizing it tasted more refreshing without it. How does anyone like this place? How is there always a line outside? Why go here when there is a lovely wonderful foods co. a mere block away? They're special gimmick is apparently that the tea is always brewed fresh, which is great, fresh tea is great. But lets be realistic about what you're doing. You brew a fresh pot of tea, tea leaves and hot water. You pump in a shit ton of either powdered coffee creamer and/or torani syrups. There's nothing special about that. Ugh that taste of coffee creamer is forever burned on my mind, that fake butter creamer taste bleh! I literally waited in line for 45 minutes, took one sip of my boba milk tea, gave it away and ran down the block to get a strawberry mango boba from wonderful foods co. And I watched them add in actual strawberries and actual chunks of mango and a splash of real milk. Tpumps needs to rethink their business plan quick, because the novelty will wear off and with reviews like these no one's going to try this place in the future, change before its too late. I was extremely excited to learn that there was a new Tpumps location that was opened in the city. I live closer to the city, so it would be a lot more convenient to go here, instead of the one all the way in San Mateo. I've been here probably three or four times, and each time the line has been unbelievably long. It can also get a little musty in there as well, with all the different body heat/odor. To be honest, I don't really mind the wait to have my order taken, but by the time I get to the register to order my drink, my patience has decreased. So having to wait, in basically a whole other line, to pick up my drink, is not my ideal way of spending my hour or hour and a half. Especially if I have to keep track of my meter as well. However, the boba and tea is delicious. Although I'm not quite sure if it is worth the wait. read more

3 stars but debating a 2. T pumps is becoming a place where all they care about is the money and not really the customers. Drinks have stayed the same though. They raised their prices about 50 cents at all locations and decreased the number of cashiers. There is usually a long line, but only one cashier. I though it was because they were understaffed. But after going there several times during busy hours with only one cashier, I knew it was because they know they can get away having people wait a long time to order and get their drinks while still making money. Seriously, increase prices and decreasing number of workers is pretty bad. Not only that, they don't have the rewards card machine most of the time, so the cashier has to do extra work to manually type in your phone number. Their syrup choices on the main menu is not updated, for more flavors its on a hand written board on the wall. I'll still come here every once in a while, but the long wait and somewhat expensive drinks are making it less worth it. read more

This place is good... but sort of confusing. What is the hype about? Yes, they use real brewed tea, but the "milk" is created with powder. Isn't this just as synthetic as using syrup or bottled tea? Next time I have a craving for PMT, I'll just go to Teaway (which costs 1 dollar) or even Eggettes (which has soy milk). read more
