The young lady spent an hour and explained everything in detail as she measured various elements and did PH tests, etc. I ordered an EC5 after checking it out on ChatGpt and other internet sites. Pricing was fair and inline with other manufacturers. The installer came today and was professional, prompt and thorough. So not a scam at all IMO

Probably a scam, definitely predatory…read more I found the kit at my local Lowe's saying to mail in a water sample and receive free water quality testing. I'm a water engineer so I was interested in getting my water tested and see what was in it. I received a call telling me we had high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in our water and to schedule in-home testing with one of their technicians but instead a sales person came to our house. The sales person did a flashy demonstration full of scare tactics. He started out by measuring chlorine and the pH of my water. Both were within the EPA mandated limits, but he claimed that the chlorine was destroying my blood and the pH of my water would encourage bacteria to grow in my body... Then he moved on to show me his carbon filter and water softener. His explanation showed he clearly has no idea the carbon filters and water softeners are completely different and remove completely different constituents from the water. Then he started to explain TDS to me and went on to claim that we had "cancer water" with no scientific backing or sufficient data to prove it with his qualitative testing. He also claimed that high TDS is caused by mercury, aluminum, and fecal matter in the water which is a ridiculous claim with no scientific backing. Fecal matter and bacteria aren't even included in TDS measurements, and he had no equipment to test for heavy metals in our water. Anyway, he ended his lengthly sales pitch with some form that he said was to check if I could pre-qualify for a $3,000 water softener system for our kitchen sink with no indication that it was a sales contract. I started answering his questions for the form just so he would finally leave. Once he started to ask for my social security number and bank account information I asked him to clarify what the document was and that I wasn't committing to buy anything. He said if I didn't fill out the document now the price would go up and if I signed it now he could install it tomorrow. I said I need more than 5 minutes to consider spending $3K. He got kind of huffy and left shortly after leaving me with the parting gift of saying "I just don't want y'all drinking cancer water". At least he didn't leave a mess in my kitchen. I googled under sink water softeners later and it turns out you can buy one for less than $500 and they're pretty easy to install so I'll be doing that instead. All in all, a waste of an hour and a half of my day. At least it provided me with some funny stories to tell my coworkers.
