Really bummed about my visit to Trabert's - took my wedding band in to get repaired (lost a pave diamond); they seemingly did a good job repairing it and yet a week later the ring broke literally in half when I put it on my hand. I've worn this ring for 14 years and it's never broke or been resized. When I brought it back to Trabert's asking them to fix it, they said the break wasn't their fault and it *must've* been resized at some point and that's why it had broke. Can't believe I haven't written a review yet! Trabert is the jeweler of my dreams. We used to live just a few blocks away and my husband and I went there to try on engagement rings a few years ago. He surprised me with their signature Aura oval ring. Such a minimal setting and band that I've never seen from another jeweler. I paired it with the mini diamond baguette ring. I'm shocked and disappointed by the service I received here. When we decided it was time to start looking for engagement rings, Trabert Goldsmiths was this first place I wanted to visit. So for my birthday, I took my mom and sister with me to check it out, I tried some rings on and found one I really liked. I came back two days later with my friend to visit "my ring" again, discuss customization options, and check the height of the setting, etc. The blond woman who assisted me previously was there again, and indicated she remembered me. This time however, she was very cold and acted extremely suspicious of me. When I tried to take a picture of the setting height, she told me that I could only take a picture from the top. I was confused, and she told me in a cold and uncomfortable way that she was concerned I was going to knock off the ring design with another jeweler. I was shocked, offended, and embarrassed- I'm an artist, I would never, ever steal another artist's design. I have no idea what gave her that impression, except maybe she didn't think I could afford their pieces based on something like my clothes, my age, my ethnic ambiguity, etc. I would also mention that none of the other jewelry stores I've visited have ever had an issue with taking pictures- it was encouraged! Even if it wasn't personal (like maybe design theft was an ongoing issue they were experiencing), there are so many better ways to deliver that request without being insulting to a serious, sincere customer. On top of that, she offered to let me take a moissanite outside to see it in natural light, then watched me like a hawk and glared at me through the window like I was going to take off with it or something. When I came in that day, I was set on going with Trabert Goldsmiths to create my engagement ring, but my experience with this blond woman was so uncomfortable and insulting, I left practically in tears. This has been long overdue but my husband (fiancé at the time) found Traberts Goldsmiths secretively on my Instagram saved posts, as I've saved lots of their beautiful rings on my ideal engagement/wedding. He went to the store and showed Melissa the associate the picture of the ring I liked and explained to him it's was a moissanite ring and educated him about diamonds as well. She showed him and suggested others as options and found the perfect ring. He said they were all so nice and the owner Eric congratulated him and gave him a bottle of Moët. Earlier this year in January we decided we would marry on our 8th anniversary and went wedding band shopping. I've honestly tried looking at other places and as I would try on wedding band options it just doesn't compare to the quality of my engagement ring so I suggested we go to Traberts. Kristy one of the owners, was the one who helped me decide on my stackable wedding band options. She was super helpful and knowledgeable on figuring out sizing. I was looking for an infinity eternity band and they didn't have in store but was able to special order and it was perfect. Once it was in store Chole was able to accommodate seeing me a little after the store closed so I can see the samples. Since my wedding bands were time sensitive Kristy kept tabs on when they would be arriving. My husband was able to get the two of my stackable wedding bands but the infinity eternity ring is still on the way. It happened to arrive the day of our wedding but we were running around trying to get things together and Kristy wanted to hand deliver my ring and came over to congratulate us in person along with a bottle of Moët. The infinity ring wasn't the ring I wanted and told her after the ceremony. And shower her which one I had in mind. She quickly apologized and placed the order of the correct one and soon as it came in we went back to switch it out. I had to wait for a while to post my review, but now that my gal has her ring I can write it lol! I'd say from top to bottom the experience was smooth. We went in, looked at bands and stones, talked about payments, left, and Chloe did some great follow ups with us to provide specs; even if we decided not to go with them. Fast forward a little bit, I came back in and got the exact band that my girlfriend (now fiancé) asked for. I had purchased the stone from an outside vendor (which was no problem) and left it with Eric. I was quoted about 6 weeks time for the ring to be completed, and they called to say it was done in a little over 4 weeks. I picked up the ring and it looked great. The rose gold band was great and it complimented the diamond perfectly. I know some people here seem to have had mixed experiences for whatever reason, but for me and my fiancé, it was top notch all the way. I have a similar frustration with the diamond industry as Matt F. The industry, as well as the sick overly-competitive look girls get when they compare each others' monetary commitment trinket simply sickens me. That said, a girl deserves an engagement ring. My fiance and I actually did the ring search together, and put quite a bit of time into the process, visiting several local places, online options, and even places in other cities. Yelp reviews actually sent us to Eric's shop, although we found out later a friend had purchased their rings here as well. His small place is like a boutique - small, beautiful, and very clean. Naturally, I expected to find stuffy people with overpriced goods. Instead, we found the people in the office friendly and down-to-earth. And when we got around to pricing, I was surprised to find prices competitive with any place we had seen. But it is Eric's confident and knowledgeable help that truly sets the place apart and made us comfortable making the purchase. The ring design we (me, my fiance, and Eric) designed together was actually different from anything he had done before, but ended up being exactly what we wanted. My fiance and I tend to take forever to make large decisions, are very picky, and therefore tough customers to please (and likely a pain to deal with). Eric came up with a design that addressed each of the qualities we wanted (alternating cuts all around), and minimized all our worries (too high, too thick). I am embarrassed it has taken me this long to post this, but I wanted to make sure I posted for the wonderful experience that I had with Eric and his team! I first knew of Trabert Goldsmiths through my girlfriends constant tagging of the rings on their Instagram account, so I knew she would want me to at least have a conversation with the team before I decided on a ring. I had the difficult situation of living very far away from SF (I am in FL), but from my first phone call with Eric he laid out a great gameplan and let me tell everyone LISTEN TO WHAT HE HAS TO SAY. All of us when we are picking out our rings have had our conversations with our significant others and have done our research, but it is important to remember that he does this for a living, so make sure you go in with some flexibility. Let him know what some of your ideas are, whats most important to you and give him an idea of a budget and then listen to his suggestions. Every step of the way he kept me informed and gave me some great suggestions and the diamond and the ring both came out exactly as I wanted. At the end of the day I had so much trust in Eric that I sent a family friend out to see the ring and send me a video but I never even saw it in person until he mailed it to me. I knew he understood how important this was to me and we had so many great conversations, so I trusted him. To say I was happy with the final product is a complete understatement. The ring is stunning, she loved it and it was everything she had wanted and more. It's taken me a while to get the nerve to write this review -- not out of fear but sadness that the process of creating my engagement ring was not a happy one. We met Eric, liked him, and were excited about designing a ring based on concepts that were important to us. At one meeting with him we discussed ideas and saw some rough sketches he had made. He was going to incorporate our ideas and email us. The next time we heard from him he informed us that the wax mold of the ring was ready. My reaction was -- 'wax mold of what ring?' We expressed our concern that we had no idea what design he had sent off for the mold, and Eric became very defensive. He told us that making another wax mold would cost about an extra $700. We could not afford that. From then on the experience was just bad. I couldn't even tell if I liked the ring because I was shocked that I hadn't given the final OK on my own engagement ring. It was not what I envisioned. I wanted to like it and I wanted Eric to like us, but his attitude revealed that he didn't. Now he was going to make the ring I was going to wear for the rest of my life. And we were spending a lot of money relative to our income. I felt awful. The ring is lovely-- this isn't so much about his technical skills but customer service. We were totally open to the fact that there may have been a miscommunication in the process, after all we had never done anything like this before. We had no problem working through it, but he was not having it. Somehow we were wrong and he was offended. Ice cold. Prior to the wedding we naively stopped in again to discuss bands that might go well with the ring he created. Super chilly reception. We wised up and went to another jeweler where we were treated with warmth, respect and patience. I guess I learned that I should ask to approve a final ring design before I have to pay for a wax mold of it. And that the next time I hire someone to perform an important service and they treat me poorly I can walk away. read more

I was recommended by a friend to come here since she said Eric did great work on her setting. I saw her ring and it looked nice. She didn't buy her diamond from him though. First off, my initial conversations with Eric were very informative although somewhat aggressive on the sales-side. He educated me on basic diamond info and told me he would find one and give me a call back. He did call back in a short-time frame and emailed quickly after our initial meeting So here's where shady-ness comes. After finding a diamond that I wanted he quoted me a price that was 6k higher than a very similar diamond on Blue Nile. So similar their GIA reports were 1 digit off and the carat, color, table & depth %s were essentially the same. I brought this to his attention over the phone and he claims his computer wasnt working and would call be back later (which he didnt do) The next day he calls me and says I dont see the diamond. In case you dont know, on Blue Nile anyone can reserve a diamond and the diamond is unlisted on Blue Nile for 48hrs. This other jeweler I was working with calls me and informs me that Eric told the vendor I promised to buy the diamond but backed out. The same vendor who owns both diamonds, delists the cheaper one from Blue Nile since he's upset that I backed out of Eric's diamond. I never promised payment since we were still negotiating price. Moral of the story is do your research before walking into a jewelery store. There's a wealth of information on the internet although one has to search for quality content. I'm sure the diamond that Eric has will sell even though it's 6k overpriced given the location of his store, but I wanted more value out of what I was going to pay for. His diamond isn't exactly or even close to the diamond I wanted that Tiffany uses for one of their design. Another piece of information I had to find out through research. Just fyi, we were looking for cushion cut diamonds and goodoldgold.com by far has the best cuts and most variety of any type. From modern, chunky and H&A. Eric and his team are awesome! I happened to walk in here off the street one day just to browse and they were so great and attentive, and had such great stuff and were so willing to share their knowledge, I ended up working with them to build an incredible engagement ring for my (now) fiancée. I was looking for something fairly specific and actually spoke with several jewelers and diamond wholesalers around the country trying to find it, but no one could, aside from Eric. The team at Eric Trabert were so accommodating and helpful...I was doing most of my work with them remotely and sometimes at odd hours. They also were super fast when I finally decided on everything I wanted - they got it done very quickly. I would absolutely recommend Eric to anyone, especially if you want something more custom, or unique. Their prices were totally comparable, to everywhere I shopped, but the service and style was head and shoulders above. I also loved the fact that Eric dealt in both modern cut stones, but also seemed to have relatively good access to Old European cut stones (both vintage and new). These stones are very hard to find and really unique, so, the fact that he had a couple in stock when I was looking, and could also locate more, was very exciting! We ended up going with a very high quality 2.11 stone that was a vintage Old European cut and put it in a beautiful platinum solitaire setting...needless to say, there is some serious ring envy from our friends. Eric Trabert was very confident that he could do the job I was asking for when we came in. We sat down and went over every detail and compared photos and did mini drawings on post it notes. He explained things to me rather than just assuming I wouldn't be able to understand the hows and whys. He even put up with me emailing him hand drawn images after I got home because the explanations helped me figure out exactly what I wanted and how I thought that was possible - he called back and talked about it with us, it showed a lot of interest and sincere care for the work he was doing for us. When we came in to pick it up, he knew I was nervous. I'm an artist, super detail oriented, and probably the most anxious worrier ever born. The moment the box opened, I was floored. I mean, I was sitting on my living room weeks before printing out diamond templates and using a light table to draw my diagrams of graph paper to explain the exact angles I wanted - this is how crazy anal I am and this ring is amazing. Eric says he gets it right the first time, and I scoffed at that like "no one can get it right with my insane standards!" but my foot is in my mouth. The milgrain is so delicate and the ring feels like it's weightless. now if only I weren't so shy I'd be able to take my hand out of my pocket so people can admire the craftmanship.... read more

There was no pretense in this store, and regardless of price range their diamonds are all of really high quality. Overall summary: Working with Eric was great on my engagement ring purchase. He had a great stone and a unique setting that was customized with some tasteful additions. 5 stars for standing out in a crowded space. I went into the diamond engagement purchase process in what seems to be the typical way - learned as much about what the woman wants (stone shape and setting style) and about diamonds in general as well as gauge price using the online websites. My engineering background and education often forces me to look at all options, details and compromises. To quench my thirst for information I ended up going to almost every local shop in SF and, since I am from NY, connected to some diamond distributers in the NYC diamond district. The experience was everything from heartless to embarrassing (see Simayof review) to out right shady except with Eric who was easy to deal with and down to earth. He worked with me a bit on price and ended up being competitive so we then quickly decided on a setting and stone. It took some time to fabricate the ring but the 4 week wait was worth it. My girl is overwhelming happy and constantly gets sincere comments such as: "wow, that's just the most beautiful ring I have ever seen." Most importantly her Grandmother is happy and provided a defining quote as she remarked: "I feel a lot better about him now that he gave you that ring...now he won't just run away." :o) The only note I would like to give is to judge Eric's shop only after sitting with Eric since some of his shop girls are not very knowledgeable and may give you the wrong impression. The diamond ring industry is wacky, shady and weird - it can ruin the fun and special time in your life engagement represents. After tragically finding out that my fianc's family diamond we were promised was a fake (I KNOW! Can you imagine the horror???) we had to start from scratch (he felt awful, but we've been through worse things in life, so this was gonna be OK.). Luckily my mom came through for us with another family diamond to use, if we wanted, and we quickly agreed. This diamond did not have much sentimental value and was on the small side, but nonetheless pretty and sparkly and not of the blood diamond variety. So, for us, it worked. The next step was to find a jeweler who would work with an existing stone and not treat you like you are some low life who can't afford to buy a new one, or assume the diamond is a stolen good. This is not an easy task. We asked friends for recommendation, but no one had a good jeweler in San Francisco. I had walked by Eric Trabert in the past and thought it looked like a good store, but didn't really think much of it. My fianc, James, found Eric Trabert and called them and they did agree to work with our small diamond and within his price range.--he set up an initial meeting. I told my friend about our meeting we had set up and she immediately gave a similar review that other yelpers gave--snotty sales people, not interested in helping you. Her opinion totally freaked me out and I became nervous and embarrassed about brining this less than half a carat, hand-me-down-diamond into the shop. James convinced me it would be OK and if they were mean or snotty we'd just leave. We met with Melanie and she was an absolute JOY. She is young (recent art school grad), super cool, with a fun modern jewelry style--exactly what I was looking for. After all that work and time she spent drawing...I decided to go with a totally different design based on the photos she showed me. She didn't even flinch! No complaining or anything. Making large purchases, you definitely want to feel good about the jewelry piece and the person making it. I had a necklace made at Eric Trabert's in the past and decided to visit his store again. I think I spoke with every person at the place, as well as, Eric and his wife. I felt really comfortable with them and they were easy to work with. The diamond business is tough to navigate, but Eric was great at finding a diamond in our price range that was competitive in price to other jewelers and online websites.
