But when they started getting into a neighbor's chickens, my sister made the gut-wrenching decision to surrender them, believing it was the most responsible choice. She brought them to the Union County Humane Society on Saturday, April 5th, heartbroken but hopeful they'd find good homes. The volunteer told her she was doing the right thing. But by Monday, she couldn't stop thinking about them. She immediately began making plans to move them to our parents' rural property where they could live safely and happily, far from neighbors. She called the shelter repeatedly on Monday and Tuesday, trying to get through to explain her plan. Finally, on Tuesday evening, she reached Tammy--only to be told the unimaginable: all three dogs had already been euthanized. Less than 48 business hours after surrendering them. These dogs were never aggressive. They were sweet, loyal, and full of love. They deserved better. We are absolutely crushed--not just by their loss, but by how quickly they were discarded without a second chance, without even being listed for adoption. This is not how a humane society should operate. My sister will carry this pain forever, and I share this because others deserve to know what can happen behind closed doors at a place that is supposed to be a safe haven. I specifically asked which tests were done on parent dogs. I got ignored and never an answer to that question. Then got a message she is waiting on a deposit for said puppy I wanted with the unacceptable excuse that she doesn't check Facebook often even though she clearly posts and advertises there! Sadly this was a bad experience with unprofessional behavior. There are better breeders and I found one who does all proper health testing with ethical breeding!
