I've…read morealways been fascinated by the store, however, I've never visited until I decided to drop in while having breakfast at the nearby Emmy's. I was on my way to do some more clearing out of my recently passed father's home. I've been intentionally having experiences that make me smile in an effort to balance all the emotions. What can I say? Rural King made me smile. From looking at other reviews, it's obvious that this is a relatively new spot for Rural King. It's on the western end of Avon not long before you head into Danville. While I tend to be a city boy (eastside of Indy), my parents lived in Putnam County and were what I'd call rural-lite. You will mostly find Rural King in, you guessed it, rural areas because it's a store clearly aimed at the rural lifestyle. That said, there's much to find for a city boy like me and often at much better prices than you'd expect. For example, the bird seed that I bought today was clearly at a much better price than you'll find in most stores and even online options (including the not named mega-online option). There's accessible parking here and an easy to enter front entrance. Aisles are wide enough for wheelchair users and there are employees present who are more than willing to help. They are friendly without being pushy. As I looked around, I will admit I really was having quite a bit of fun. Rural King carries clothing (mostly work/farm brands), gardening items, outdoor furniture, farm items, home goods, automotive, pet, and quite a bit more. They offer popcorn and coffee for shoppers. I was amazed at the bird seed prices. As a person fairly new with ensuring my bird feeder is always full, a place like Rural King makes that possible. Rural King carries all the familiar quality brands (Carhartt galore here) and the atmosphere for shopping is warm, welcoming, and yet also professional. If I hadn't been on the way to clear out a house, I'd have no doubt bought even more. I still bought bird seed as it was simply too good to pass up. My birds said "Thank you." The check out person was super friendly (she apologized for being a bit slow as she had some difficulty scanning a price). She signed me up for rewards (I have no idea why I signed up as I don't live close) and offered help (I should mention I am a wheelchair user) without being overly pushy about it. This was a blast. I would easily return as much for the atmosphere as the items. Good people. Good products. Good prices. I'll be back.

I am not a local to the area but have family friends in town we frequently visit. They have always had a bigger selection of bird feed or all types for your outdoor feathered friends as well as cool little hanging feeders. Depending on the season they have livestock as in chicks, ducklings, turkeys and even rabbits. The kids always get a kick out of that. I dig the place for the snacks you can find that to me seem to be somewhat unique. Even the toys they have are something different and plushies galore! Always got to get my kids a couple. The staff has always been super friendly and seem like they actually enjoy being there. Check it out!

She always has very unique finds that are perfect for gifts, or yourself! Most recently, I purchased a jar of elderberry and grape jam from her at the Indy Winters Farmers Market. It was delicious and reasonably priced. You'll mostly notice Laura's featherwork jewelry and goodies. While I can't say that they're for me, they definitely make a statement and can turn an eye...to say the least. Laura is incredibly nice and just another reason to give this place a shot (whether at their farm or at a local event).

My favorite part of every purchase experience has been listening to Laura explain what types of feathers are being used, how she gathered them and the general story behind the products. She has a crafty eye that could make even the dullest plumage into a work of art. Not only are they art, but extremely affordable - $8 for handcrafted and local earrings? I think I can pull that off ;) The feathers are gathered in a variety of ways, but most often they are compiled following the slaughter of the Farm's chickens for meat. **thought: this is definitely the first time I've used the word "slaughter" in a review...**

I purchased a large bird, a Green Wing Macaw from here $5,500…read more We would come up every week to visit during weaning (about an hour and half drive one way). Their expected lifespan is about 80. We breed birds, but not him, he was a pet, my pet, my baby. Last May I had to put him down due to a disease, PDD. This is spread through saliva and fecal matter, but since he was housed alone none of my other birds could have gotten it from him, thankfully! Our vet who informed us he probably got it during weaning from a breeder using one pipet between birds during hand feeding times. I spoke with Bird Fever's Vet, Dr. Dahlhausen, along with the vet Hei Hei was being seen at, Med Vet Hillsboro, OH, that recommended we put him down at the age of 3! This was a humane decision and I (and both of our vets stand by it) in-spite of how much it hurts me. Hei Hei was a good bird, but they wont provide a replacement bird, or even a refund on the price. I can't seek legal recourse due to the "warranty" only lasting a year, regarding the sale. We did our due diligence we did the autopsy after he was put down, we were broken and it took me time to stop crying to let them know what had happened, and finally to reach out and ask for a refund or replacement bird for the one who was ill. Bird Fever's response to me was devastating and rude! The Audacity to tell me it wasn't a death sentence, and my terms were out of date, in-spite of me getting information directly from not only my own vet but one who is theirs as well! Mind you PDD can lay dormant for years, and is often found in the first 5 years an infected bird can have this disease and only be a carrier. This means their aviary is infected with PDD. This is exactly what Bird Fever told me: "First, I am sorry to read that this happened. As for the health guarantee, it is not a lifetime guarantee. We guarantee the birds to be healthy and free of disease at the time of purchase. You took the bird to an avian vet when it went home, and the vet signed off that the bird was healthy and free of disease. If there was a problem we would have been notified, then. Once the bird leaves the store, we cannot control what happens to the bird or what it is exposed to. As far as PDD is concerned, I am concerned that you went to a vet that is not knowledgeable in regard to the disease. Your terminology is outdated and most of your statements about it are incorrect. PDD is an expression of avian ganglioneuritis, or AGN. AGN is a neurological condition that expresses itself in different ways with PDD being one of the ways. The unfortunate part is if it was PDD, it is very treatable and is no longer a death sentence like it was years ago. There is no test for PDD as the only way to confirm the diagnosis is through histopathology. The only way to do that in a living bird is a crop biopsy. Unfortunately, I can't write everything there is about PDD in a Facebook message. I will gladly talk to you about this, or I can refer you to our Veterinarian for more information."

We needed to board our dog for a three-day stay over the Fourth of July weekend, and we needed to…read moredo it last minute. Of course, all of our usual places were all booked up. So as a last-ditch effort, we reached out to Dogtopia in Fishers. They had space for us! They were a lifesaver. One interesting thing that Dogtopia does before they board a dog they've never boarded before is do a little doggie meet-and-greet. Your dog just meets some staff and checks out the facility. It takes about an hour, but my dog loved meeting new people and smelling all of the things. It was slightly inconvenient for me (why can't you just take my dog and take my money?!), but I understand the reasoning behind it. My dog loves people but doesn't like being boarded, but the people at Dogtopia gave him a lot of attention and love, which he loves and made him comfortable. He came back home super chill and not at all stressed, which was a great thing to see. He obviously liked his stay!

We had the opportunity to hunt pheasants at a game form and had a great day with the dog. The area we were hunting was like a swamp and full of briars and brambles. By the end of the day the dog was just a mess and I really had no way of getting her cleaned up to go back to my nephew's house. On the drive home I started calling dog groomers knowing it was probably impossible to find somebody to help us with little or no advanced notice. I contacted Dogtopia and they told me they could squeeze us in if we could get a copy of the dog's rabies vaccine certificate. I called my vet. The vet emailed me the rabies certificate. 45 minutes later I dropped the dog off and in an hour she looked amazing. This is the kind of customer service that goes way above and beyond what is ordinarily expected. The staff was helpful and friendly and they clearly loved dogs. Dogtopia earned a five star review. The place is extremely clean and organized the other one star review on here is completely unfounded.

I came in to see the adoptable cats and kittens…read more The adoptable kitties are from the rescue group "Paws on my Heart." The area is very clean, and volunteers are present to discuss the cats and offer information. The area is well organized and the cats are well taken care of. Volunteers are knowledgeable about the cats, with information about each of them: age, personality, etc. If you are looking to add a cat or kitten to your family Paws on my Heart is a wonderful organization and Petco is a good place to visit and learn about the rescue as well as to interact with available kitties.

The process is simple: you arrive and check out the dogs/cats that are available from…read morerescues/shelters around the state; find one and play with them; fill out the paperwork and pay $30; and you're on your way with a new pup. I can see how this can be an issue for those that are cautious about ensuring that the animals are going to a good home, but on the flip side, it's a great event that helps to find permanent houses for most of the animals (just an assumption). This year, I went on both days. The first day I arrived 2ish hours after they had opened and nearly all of the pups were gone that were what I was looking for. I wanted to go back the next day to check it out, thinking that more pups would have been brought in - not the case at all. Cats were still in abundance both days. I got there right on time and they had nearly no new dogs from the last time. Sadly, there were all nearly Pits too. Even worse, my apartment complex doesn't allow Pits. I love the idea but hope that next year, even more dogs are brought in on the 2nd day so they can find their forever homes. The volunteers are great too. They usually didn't know most of the answers to the questions you had because they were simply volunteers, so that might be something to improve on next year. Instead of having the volunteers taking you and your possibly furry friend to the "meet and greet" stations, have one of the staff members from the shelters/rescues there so that you can get your questions answered while you're getting to know them. That was one major flaw I had. Every question I had wasn't able to be answered. Big props to the volunteers though!

THIS IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL EVENT…read more I cannot stress enough that if you are looking for a cat or dog, GO TO INDY MEGA. I would highly suggest going earlier in the event too because animals get adopted quickly!!! All the adoptable animals are up-to-date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. They cost $30 for adoption and they are ready to go to their furrever homes!! A lot of the shelters too offer vets that give free wellness checks or 30 days of free pet care insurance. (FYI: most vets will give you a free first visit if you adopted from a shelter). DOGS: One thing that I do want to caution about: A lot of the dogs are pitbulls or pit bull mixes. I have NOTHING against Pits; I love them. What I want to specifically bright to light is that a lot of these dogs had to go to an only pet home and were not good with kids. As a cat lady, this doesn't really work with my family. There a lot of other dogs who are not like this but I just want people to know this because there are a lot of dogs who need some love in a single pet/no kid home. I KNOW there are people out there who can do this for these animals. I heard that all the dogs got adopted except one the last time this event was held. AMAZING!!!! CATS: WOW. So many cats at Indy Mega. I think hundreds and maybe thousands of cats. I came at the end of the event and was leaving when I found the MOST perfect kitten who I just knew belonged to me and needed to come home! There was only 20 minutes left in the event but I was not rushed into the decision at all. The volunteers helped me visit with the cat, listened, and helped me through the decision making process without pushing me into adopting. If the volunteers didn't know the answer to my questions, they directed me to someone who could. The adoption process of my new cat was so easy. Took about 10 minutes. The greatest part is all the stuff they sent me home with. I got coupon books for both Petco and PetSmart. I got TONS of toys and treats. They gave me some wet food and a wet food can cover. I even got a bucket for free 10 pound box of litter (so helpful) and the bucket can be reused so I can go back for more discounted litter at Petco (I think). They really set you up for success. They want these pets to go to great homes. I couldn't be more thankful for such an amazing event. Great job Indy!!! and PLEASE check this event out even if you are just considering getting a pet.

I love going to Hobby Lobby. The store is full of the coolest most creative items. I love to browse…read morearound and see what ideas I get. This is a store even my husband actually enjoys going to look around with me. There is plenty of parking. The inside of the store is clean and inviting. The staff are helpful and pleasant. The selection is second to none. I do like when they have coupons but there is usually some type of sale going on and the prices are reasonable. I enjoy going to look around and recommend to anyone looking for decor, crafting or organizing ideas.

I am the Founder and President of a local non profit organization. I took the appropriate…read morepaperwork into the store March 2025 and was issued a sales tax exemption card from their store. I used it several times with no issues. When I attempted to use it a few days ago they said it expired. I showed the cashier the card which showed 3/2028 expiration. She stated that didn't matter, it was expired and I would have to bring the paperwork in again and get a new card. I asked why that might have happened? She stated, oh it happens all the time, you just have to bring your papers in again and get a new card. Seems easy right? Not for someone who works, has a family, runs a non profit and lives 40 minutes away. Because she stated it happens all the time I asked if I could bring my paperwork and have them make a copy in the event it would happen again? She stated, oh, no we can't have that kind of paperwork in the store, you can just bring it with you each time. Not a good option considering it has the organization EIN and other information I wouldn't want to risk by just having it with me everytime. I pulled up my sales tax exemption certificate on the govt website at which point she waved her hand and said, no you have to bring it in, we don't look at copies of things. I explained I was merely showing her I had just obtained the certificate in March 2025 and suddenly July of 2025 Hobby Lobby says it's expired. She then said, you have to have an ST-105...um incorrect. I told her it's an NP-1 form. She argued with me saying corporate told them they have to have an ST-105. I told her that you can't even apply for one of those anymore because the government changed that in 2023 and it's now an NP1 form. She shook her head and waved her hand around, stating nope we can only take the ST105. I pulled up IN.gov and showed her that it's not even possible for me to apply for an ST105 and again she stated, that doesn't mean anything. I asked to speak to a manager to clear things up and she said, he's going to tell you the same thing. There's nothing we can do. I insisted I wanted to speak with him for clarification. When he came to the register the cashier proceeded to talk condescendingly and tell HIM that there was nothing he could do. I explained to him everything I had explained to her including the NP1 form and showed him the government site. He told me he would have to call the corporate tax department, at which point the cashier told him, they're going to tell you the same thing, it's their rule so he did not attempt to even call them on my behalf. I asked for the corporate number and the manager gave that to me and I left. I called the corporate office and left a message because it was after hours. I called my accountant, who confirmed that the ST105 is obsolete. The next day I called the Department of revenue who also told me that the ST105 is no longer the form retailers should be requesting. The Department of revenue gave me the link where I could print off the bulletin from the IRS to take in and show them. The next day I got a call from the corporate office and I explain the situation and they also stated they had no idea why the store would be telling people they needed the ST105 because in fact it is the NP1 form. It was a huge inconvenience, a waste of a lot of my time and fuel to rectify this and I certainly did not appreciate the way that the cashier acted rudely and continued to interrupt myself and the manager along with the waving of her hand and shaking of her head as if she knew everything and was not receptive to what I was explaining. When I went to the store a few days later and showed them the bulletin print off from the Department of revenue the manager was quick to issue a new card and asked if he could make a copy of my NP1 form, which just a few days prior the cashier had stated they can't make copies of any of that paperwork to have in their store.
