This (chilly!) morning we had a really special opportunity to tour Kentucky Equine Adoption Center…read more(KyEAC) as part of Horse Country's community-based event: Meet the Neighbors. I'm SO happy this annual program has returned post-COVID! KyEAC is the largest all-breed equine rescue in Kentucky, situated on 72 rolling acres on Catnip Hill Road in Nicholasville. Right now they have 48 horses available for adoption, with 4 more on the way, and a waitlist a mile long. At any given time they have ~50% thoroughbreds, plus wild/feral horses, and horses from the strip mines of Eastern Kentucky. As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, part of their mission is to find the perfect home and purpose for every horse - whether as therapeutic companions, trail horses, or pasture ponies. On the tour - led by Susan Powers - we learned how KyEAC operates, met all the horses and heard their stories, and were treated to a short demonstration in the arena. I was floored. The staff and volunteers at KyEAC are doing amazing work advocating and caring for our most noble and precious symbols of the Bluegrass State. One may think a pet store is a pet store, but that isn't the case with this one. They have a great…read morerewards program. My little fur babies are spoiled rotten. They require a specific brand of food (Nitro). This place carries it and usually has great deals on it. Also after 10 bags of purchased you get a free bag. FREE BAG! That is a $30-$60 savings depending on the lbs and the flavor my lil spoiled demon dogs wish to have that week. I LOVE IT! I will always go here and get my puppy foods. They also carry birds, lizards and fish. You think of anything you need for any type of pet, they have it. If you are in the area of Nich road and have a moment or two to kill, hop on in here and see what all they have. The isles are usually clean. I have been in the fish keeping hobby for my entire life and was able to make good conversation and find what I was looking for! I picked up 6 cpds and two pygmy cory's to add to my shoal of 4. They also have a wonderful variety of freshwater plants and fish. I have had a lot of difficulty finding many species that I've been wanting to stock my tank with, especially plants, and wanted to give this place a shot! The owners were very helpful, and explained to me the situation involving being let into the building stating they are both immunocompromised, so I understand where they are coming from. It doesn't hurt to call to let them know you'd like to stop in, next time I will wear a mask! Despite a lot of reviews about smell and uncleanliness (from circa over 5 years ago), I did not see or smell any such issue, and I am a bit of a clean freak in terms of smells associated with pets.

Only purebred puppies for insane prices when there's so many dogs and cats that don't have homes. The space for puppies was also super super small- and they didn't look in good health. Also had products that are unsafe for reptiles like plastic "heat" rocks and reptile carpet. Didn't even have information for the tortoises there that get huge and live a long time! Really unethical uninformative store. I was expecting that the store would be about providing the best care for the "most valuable pets" meaning your pets - but NO it means here's the most expensive pets and most expensive equipment (that you can get for less). Would not recommend and honestly horrified a store like this exists.

He even suggested samples to make sure our dog would like the food before going all in and making an enormous purchase. Seriously, how many sales people would suggest samples, instead of trying to somewhat force you to purchase a $50 bag of dog food, that your pet might not even like? Sadly, we have purchased food at a rival chain, and it went to waste. So, we were glad he mentioned samples, along with various pet treats to work on her dull coat. Bottom line, he was concerned about the overall customer experience, and that's what we liked, and sets this store apart of other chains. By the way, his name was John.

NEW FAVORITE PET STORE! My roommate and I just went today with our pups to check out some more…read morenatural dog food. They had everything you could possible want for your pups and kitties! Huge toy, collar, leash, harness, food selections for any size dog. Everything was reasonably priced and "natural". I ended up getting my pup some new food, a very nice leather collar, and an easy walk harness all for under $70. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to try out some more natural products for their fur babies! Also, the staff were incredibly helpful and had great attitudes. They helped me find the right harness for my pup and even helped me size it to perfection!
