My favorite things about Trader Joe's are the healthier snack choices, cheap produce, and lack of selection. There is only Trader Joe's brand, so you don't have to compare prices or quality, just pick what you want. I know that's not for everyone, but I find it to be a huge time saver when I don't feel like only shopping Harris Teeter sales to get a good deal. The store was so crowded today we could barely move! Employees struggled to re-stock shelves but many items were sold out. This store now locks the bathrooms but does not notify customers so if you are stopping In while traveling be aware that no facilities will be available & you will be left to stand in front of a door that never opens, as we were today with several other patrons. We come here weekly and always hit the Sunday afternoon rush. My wife and I joke we are willing to make the trip from Durham for the samples. They always have fresh food. I placed an order for flowers for my wedding earlier this month. The flowers were set aside for pick-up the day of the wedding and the order was correct, quality was great and prices were great! Just another glowing recommendation... Trader Joe's donates flowers to Charles House for pick-up routinely on Sunday. Today, 9/16- three buggies full!!! Definitely love this store. The staff and the selection is awesome. Sometimes, they can be out of my favorites - so I stock up on things that are popular. The cheese selection is nice and they of course have an excellent wine department with tastings sometimes. I think Trader Joe's has the best frozen food and they are always great about having nice seasonal favorites to choose. The fresh produce is nice and they have better prices than many of the other local grocers. I do avoid the store on weekends - because let's face it - those aisles just aren't wide enough for all the Chapel Hill TJ's fans that show up on Saturdays and Sundays. read more

Trader Joe's is absolutely my favorite grocery chain and this is my favorite location in the area. This place is a foodie paradise and a cheaper alternative to whole foods. Basically all the trendy foodstuffs and ingredients can be found here, including lots of snacks and such that you always wish your grocery store had but didn't. In case you have never been to a Trader Joe's, about 90% of the products in the store are made by Trader Joe's. I like to buy my produce here (their organics are very reasonably priced and they have kale sprouts!) cooking ingredients (can't beat their prices on spices, oils, pasta, tomato sauces etc...and their canned coconut milk and cream are both great!), and frozen foods (don't judge, I know frozen foods are bad in general but the ones here are just so awesome how can I resist?). The cheeses here are another highpoint. They have a huge selection of cheeses, pretty much anything you could possibly want and they are a steal, much cheaper than other places for the quality. Can't forget to mention their awesome snacks from kale chips to wasabi peas, and a variety of tortilla chips, and salsas on top of that, there is absolutely something for everyone. Their nuts and trail mixes are the best, I swear I got several coworkers addicted to their coconut cashews and going to Trader Joe's just to get them, they are the best! Actually I don't know anyone that started going to Trader Joe's and didn't get hooked on one of their products. One of the reasons I love this place is you can find healthier alternatives to some of your favorite products that are filled with bad ingredients. Case in point their steak sauce taste better than A-1, and it doesn't have HFCS and all that other artificial stuff in it. On top of everything else the staff is the best! Everyone is always super friendly, funny, and will go way out of their way to help you. I mean where else do employees come up to you as your walking towards the checkout and ask if your ready to checkout? Well here they do all the time and you hardly ever have to wait in line anyway even though the store is almost always insanely busy. So if your ever in the Durham/ Chapel Hill Area you should definitely stop by here. read more

The food is delicious and reasonably priced BUT the employees are aggressively friendly to the point of aggrivation and awkwardness. I've had my basket snatched out of my hands and brought to a shorter line without my consent and I've been "playfully" insulted by these cheerful menaces in their painful attempt at quirky friendship. Trader Joe's is a great place. My only reservation is that they package their vegetables in plastic and styrofoam, which I think is unnecessary and creates a lot of waste that ends up in landfills, or worse, at the bottom of the ocean, on beaches, and in giant gyros of plastic waste in the middle of the ocean. Just yesterday, the news reported that the deepest dive ever done by a human (35,850 feet deep in the Mariana Trench) found evidence of human trash. So, Trader Joe's ought to find eco-friendly ways of packaging their organic produce since organic is more than just farming without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and sewage sludge - it's about human and ecosystem health and you can't have that while at the same time enabling pollution trough plastic waste. Then there's the issue of food that doesn't sell - Trader Joe's dumpster diving is a fad, wherein people have found perfectly edible food thrown in dumpsters because of blemishes or "expiration dates". Why not donate this food or compost it instead of throwing it out? What's the point of organic if you're dumping tons of food in a landfill to decay and release climate changing gases? Bottom line, I think Trader Joe's could be a leader in this area, which would make it even better as a destination for healthy, sustainable, pollution-free food. read more

The first time I walked in Trader Joe's I was determined to be a skeptic, walked around, found things to dislike and left. (It's too small, too expensive, only specialty items, no deli...etc...) I had just moved to the area and didn't have these in my hometown. Soon after, I started shopping at Harris Teeter. That's when my husband and I really started budgeting out money and realized that HT was breaking the bank. So, we began shopping at Aldi for most things and then HT for the important things like (milk, meat, eggs, and cheese) until yesterday. I decided to try TJ's again after Aldi because we were spending SO much at HT. Um...loved it! Seriously. The staff was super friendly, helpful, and seemed to love their jobs. The prices were way more manageable than HT and the food better quality and healthier. However I can't quite go 5 stars simply because of size and lack of selection. I don't like shopping at too many stores when it's time and if I need to go to more than two, something has to change! Hoping I come better prepared to TJ's next time. read more

I was overjoyed to find that all their produce is non-GMO! Gotta read the labels because not everything is totally healthy but the majority is and the prices are really good on most things. I love when they have wine samples! I love that their employees are always happy and helpful and friendly. The parking lot can be a bit challenging so avoid peak times. read more

Best Trader Joe's store I've ever been in! Fun staff that knows their stuff, enjoys their customers and makes me want to work there! Every person I came across (and there WAS someone working in every section) was HAPPY, helpful, entertaining and knowledgeable about their products. I was searching for charcuterie and grabbed a soppressata to go with fresh figs and Humboldt Fog . Several others were suggested with full tasting details and recipe ideas so I grabbed bresaola and proscuitto too. Same story for olive oils and entertaining humor was much appreciated as I picked up uber trendy quinoa (went for the "nutty flavor tri-color" )for the OBX crew kiddos. Got a smiling serenade from the cashier and the total experience gets a 10! (Almost made me not miss my old familiar Southern Season's old home!) Great staff, great store! (Been to a bunch of them all over the US and the next closest is Tyson's Corner three days before Christmas, crowded and crazy and still super-stocked (bring on the Peppermint Jo-Jo's!) and everyone smiling!) I went there today, very upset about a loss in the family. The employees were very loud and singing which is great but I was not very happy. I looked at them, and one of the employees made a remark about being bitter and grumpy, and he was pretty loud. I thought that was very rude. We are allowed we be sad, not happy sharply robots all the time! Then, I was waiting in line for a while because the cashier was having a long conversation with a lady in front of me. Not a good experience and I'm sure I wasn't the only one! read more
