I absolutely love Trader Joe's, and while I usually shop at the E. 82nd St. location I occasionally stop by this location when I am on the west side of town. I'm very happy that Indianapolis has TWO Trader Joe's locations while many cities have none at all. Employees are always incredibly friendly and helpful. And it is never difficult to find someone to assist. I always check out the plants first, as I often find something I need to add to my collection. Some of my TJ favorites: Cheese of all varieties but especially Unexpected Cheddar, Cottage cheese, yogurt, peanut butter, squiggly knife cut noodles, Danish Kringle in all varieties, peanut butter cups, frozen mashed potatoes, frozen hash browns, and too many other things to list. There is always something new and different to try at Trader Joe's, and I often stop in just to see what is new. It is always a fun experience and great place to shop. read more

Okay now listen, normally I try to write reviews of local/non-chain shops because usually people already know what they're getting with stores like Trader Joe's... pure bliss in a shopping experience. I was having a really tough day and still needed to get my grocery shopping done so I chose the one grocery store I know that always makes me feel better: TJ's...Mr. Joseph's..Good ole' Trader Joe's. Was I planning on getting lava cakes upon entering the store? No. Whoops...add to cart. Did I need that bouquet of flowers that greeted me with a delightful smell right after walking through the doors? No. Add to cart. When I got to the checkout almost tripling my budget for groceries (don't go shopping while sad) the cashier had the normal friendliness you expect from anyone working at Trader Joe's. When she asked how my day was going my body took this exact moment to let all of the tears roll out of my eyes. Embarrassed? Yes BUT it's like the employees were trained for these situations. The kind cashier smiled and shared how she too had a rough day the day before. She then added an extra bouquet to my basket and no matter how bad my day was, it's the small kindnesses from employees here that truly make a big difference in someone's day to day experience. I walked away feeling lighter...and with tasty chocolates to snack on and all of my groceries for the week and I was actually smiling on what felt like quite possibly one of the worst days of this year. If you've ever spent much time around me (which is unlikely since I'm fairly anti-social), then you already know I've never been a particular fan of Trader Joe's. I will admit this is a somewhat unfair conclusion that's almost entirely based upon the Castleton location that I find not particularly accessible, poorly laid out, and irritatingly snooty. If there's a stereotype about rich folks, you'll find it at the Castleton Trader Joe's. Again, I acknowledge this is a tad unfair but it's been my experience every single time I've tried to visit that location. I was dining at First Watch in this same strip center this morning. I was irritated with myself for forgetting my phone, a fact that meant I couldn't log my Yelp visits and snag my usual photos. It also meant that my desired cemetery visits (Hey, we all have weird hobbies) couldn't be completed since I didn't have my app. See, there's a reason you don't spend much time around me. Anyway, I decided to stop in to Trader Joe's as it dawned on me I couldn't remember ever visiting this one. I needed a few things and figured I could at least check them out. I was already parked at the other end of the building by First Watch - so, I knew I wouldn't buy much. I also didn't really check out accessible parking, however, the layout is pretty much the same across the strip center. They have a couple spots every few stores with appropriate curb cuts. It's sort of old school accessibility - ADA but barely. Trader Joe's has their carts directly outside the store and automatic doors. Trader Joe's is a national chain of neighborhood groceries. They lean toward healthier fare, though their items are rather consistently more affordable than a certain other Amazon-owned chain with a similar target. The items here are also more consistently healthy with no diversions into unhealthy national brands. They've been around since 1967 - I'm not sure when they entered the Indy market, though I believe they were mostly West Coast for quite some time. I was at Trader Joe's quite early today. It was an ideal time for someone like me who's a wheelchair user and a crowd avoider. The Trader Joe's layout simply isn't wheelchair friendly, though I found this location MUCH more workable than Castleton. The selection here is more fundamental than that other national retailer. I was surprised by the lack of beverage options, though when you think about it after you eliminate the unhealthy stuff this is pretty much what you have left. The iced tea options were limited (one of my desired items - I left without it). I saw practically nothing in the way of an energy drink other than iced coffee type options. There's a nice frozen section, a nice fresh fruit/veggie area, a great plant area, lots of staple-type items, a strong beer/wine section, and a variety of other areas. This location had a diverse clientele, a rather refreshing fact, and also a diverse employee population (they struck me as mostly introverts as almost no one actually said hi). There was an open accessible cashier spot (marked by a wheelchair symbol). I'm not sure what makes it different, but I'm a submissive sort and went to that aisle. The employee was friendly and actually took my cart back outside for me. I only bought 4 items and spent a bit over $11. It was placed in a paper bag with handles (again, pretty into sustainability here). They also have popular bags that you can buy (I heard they went viral at some point - another fact that I think affirms why I don't socialize). While this isn't a destination shop for me, there's no doubt I preferred this over the Castleton location. It's still got some accessibility issues and I'd like to feel just a bit more welcome, but I'll easily return when in the area. read more

I love shopping at Trader Joe's and hate that there isn't one closer to my house, so any time I'm in the area, I have to stop in. I had seen a list of new products on BuzzFeed's Tasty and wanted to give them a try. Before I even entered the store I was delighted to see several potted plants sitting outside for sale. Once inside, I couldn't resist the fresh-cut flowers. I chose the a very uniquely colored bouquet of roses. While checking out the clerk, Kinsley, said that theirs are the best and they usually last a couple of weeks. I look forward to enjoying them in the coming weeks. While browsing, I saw that one of the items I was there for was being offered as a sample. I was delighted to try the PB&C Snack Duo before purchasing it. This will be the perfect late-night, not too sweet snack for my family to enjoy. I found nearly everything I was looking for and when I had difficulty to the staff were all very kind and eager to assist. Everyone seemed to really love their jobs. I overheard to female employees going on about a snack they love and how the bag isn't resealable, so you have to eat the whole bag! You just have to! On another aisle, I male employee spoke kindly to a shopper's son about superhero etiquette. It was really cute! The meat and produce all looked very fresh and I love the variety of unique seasoning blends. I didn't intend on spending as much as I did, but I'm sure that I'll enjoy all of the items I purchased and look forward to returning again in the future. read more

The only downside is the parking lot, which is often crowded and full; usually I drive through without stopping because I can't find a parking spot. Plus, the locations are out of my way. Trader Joe's does a great job at rotating their product selection, while introducing new items. That's why shopping here is such an exciting excursion for me. Trader Joe's grocery has THE best pandemic precautious for seniors in the area. They offer special hours for seniors between 8-9 am daily. A masked clerk greets you outside with a freshly cleaned cart and smile and will politely turn away non-seniors. The automatic doors mean I don't have to touch anything. I felt safe. Inside the store is ultra clean and everyone wears a mask. I have been shopping here for many years. I love the vegetables, cheeses, meats, specialty items and wine selection. Prices are great. Some of the merchandise you can only find here. The products are high quality and many products focus on sustainability. I stock up on the 99 cent cards. And the fresh flowers are the freshest and most reasonably priced in town. The service is always friendly and efficient wearing cheerful Hawaiian shirts and a smile. I've become a big fan of Trader Joe's. Not many places have Trader Joe's and we're lucky enough to have a couple of them around Indianapolis. When you walk in you're greeted with colorful bouquets, succulents, and orchids. The price and quailty of the flowers is superb. Each bouquet comes with a flower food packet and on the wall you can take a plastic sleeve to put your bouquets in. I love how Trader Joe's goes all out on the holidays. They will have great displays with the holiday theme carried throughout the month. They sell advent calendars for $1! Haunted house kits for under $7. Irish soda bread during St. Patrick's day. The list goes on and on. One item that is really a deal is the Danish Kringle that comes from Racine, Wisconsin. Trader Joe's sells them for I think $6.99. Normally to buy one and have it shipped is $20+!! They have cream cheese, almond, pumpkin, and raspberry. They might have more options but they will only sell one type for a period of time. The almond and cream cheese are my favorite. They could sell out of the pumpkin ones. Those are a hit. A Kringle can feed a lot of people. If you're new to Trader Joe's you can go to the back left corner and they will have maybe 3 or 4 samples and they have a coffee sample and maybe a juice sample. They sell K-cups there! Well, Trader Joe's brand and I personally like the French Roast ones. The prices are good for what items you're buying. They have a really nice body butter that's under $6! It's great! Oh, and get cards here! All the cards are up front and you can pick up the card and turn it over and it will show you what the inside of the card will say and look like! It's enclosed in a clear plastic sleeve so your card and envelope are nicely packaged and you don't have to take it out and open up the card to see what it says. The best part all cards are $1! So, stock up. Lots of varieties. Stop if you're ever near the area. This location is off of 86th street by McNamara Florist and Panera. read more

Trader Joe's is a wonderful store that sells natural organic products and gluten free products of a different kind. I have always enjoyed coming here to shop because everything is fresh and the staff are wonderful and very knowledgeable on the products. The selection of fresh flowers is wonderful and they have a fantastic selection of coffee and wine as well. The chocolate is just as good, and they have specialty products during the holidays that are worth purchasing. Once in a while, they will provide free samples of the products to the customers. This is the best way to try the product and see if you like it before purchasing. Staff is always very friendly and helpful-I wish they could share their secret with pretty much every other business. If you find a favorite item, better snag several because they do rotate items out pretty often. My favorite store OF ALL TIME. Trader Joe's! This location continues to impress me with each passing season. The staff are always friendly and offer to help. Their customer service is a step above other locations as they go out of their way to check with other Trader Joe's locations in the area if they are out of an item you would like. They then request that the other location hold the item for you so that you can go pick it up. The store is always clean, organized, and their feature shelves highlight the new seasonal favorites. WOahH! Trader Joe's. It's like if Aldi's got themed after Muppet's Treasure Island. TJ's is soo good! You don't even know what you're missing if you've never shopped here. All the products are exciting, delicious, priced low. The staff is super friendly and they have character and personalities. Dessert aisle is guaranteed to make you excited to get home and gobble up some exotic new flavor or texture. Flowers are cheap and last forever at home. Booze is really cheap for how good it is... I read somewhere that TJ's is the US version of Aldi's North (different than regular Aldi's in the US, which is Aldi's South in Europe), which explains a lot of the similarities. read more

Updated review for pandemic shopping: Love all the extra precautions being made! Limited number of shoppers with two employees at the front door to count customers entering / leaving, they provide a friendly welcome greetings and offer a sanitized cart. After shopping the employees by the entrance take the cart back from you to then sanitize it. Masks are required and all employees have masks on. If waiting to enter they have a shaded line area with cute fruit slices painted on the shaded sidewalk to ensure 6 feet of social distancing as well as a sign indicating estimated wait in line until can enter and shop, just like at an amusement park with estimated wait time in line. Inside the store is very clean and orderly with many staff available to help answer any questions. Due to safety, no food samples or free suckers for kids, which is understandable during this time. As for checkout, they have every other register open with plexiglass to add an additional safety barrier for cashiers and baggers. Checkout lines are also marked with the fruit symbols on the floor to ensure proper distancing. When it was our turn to checkout they kindly asked us to stand on the fruit marker properly distanced from register and when everything was totaled they then notified me it was fine to approach the card scanner which can accept credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay to offer touch less payment. Very pleasant shopping experience without the crowds and with friendly staff going the extra mile to ensure the store is clean and helping customers when asked. I may not do my weekly grocery shopping here, but Trader Joe's is great when you're in a pinch for a thoughtful but affordable gift. 1. They have a simple greeting card rack with a few options for the basics (birthday, thank you, anniversary, baby, wedding, sympathy) and each are beautiful and a steal at $0.99. 2. They have a nice array of flowers and many bouquets are $3.99 - $5.99 - again, a steal. 3. Plus, TJ's has delicious sweet treats that are hard to resist. All this to say, you can get someone a card, flowers and dessert treat for under $15. A card and flowers alone may only cost you $5-$7. Plus, the friendly cashiers will brighten your day! read more

What's not to love about Trader Joe's? Great prices, vast selection and amazing customer service! This was actually my first official visit at this location. I went to their location in Knoxville, TN while I was in college but would only get a few items. I decided to read a few blogs from people who shop regularly at TJ's to figure out what the "must have" items are. I selected a couple bottles of red wine, chicken jalapeño sausages, orange chicken, chicken pot stickers, carne asada, a sirloin taco kit, dark chocolate peanut butter cups, dried mango and soyaki sauce. I've had the soyaki sauce quite a bit and it's delicious to marinate in salmon or chicken. They carry a couple of my go-to items from Kroger at a fraction of the cost. I foresee myself making a stop here once every few weeks. Highly suggest checking this place out! read more

I just LOVE everything about Trader Joe's - from their fresh produce to their unique food offerings to their superb customer service I never leave there unhappy or feel like I don't strike gold with a cool, new product. This time, the hubs and I discovered their cauliflower gnocchi which i'm thrilled to try. Our go-to's anytime we got to Trader Joe's are mango mochi, frozen cowboy burgers (veggie burgers with a kick), and everything chocolate covered - marshmallows, ginger, cookie dough, peanuts, peanut butter cups, you name it! They always have samples of a meal they cook made with stuff at TJ's - and usually it's super easy to throw together. This time it was roasted corn, chicken, chili lime seasoning, and a red bell pepper - Talk about yummy! We bought the products and made it last night and threw in some brown rice and sauteed tomatoes and zucchini and it was super delish! read more

This is my favorite Trader Joe's! Ok, all TJ's are great, but I like this layout. It naturally flows from produce to cheese to meat, then dairy and into the aisles. The customer service is top notch. I love trying the different samples. Also, did you know that you can sample ANYTHING in the store? You just say at the sample counter ' i want to sample this'. They will open it up and you can sample it, and then they just keep the samples there for everyone else until that package is used up. This is a great way to try new things!! read more

Always stop for a few fun items when close to this grocery spot. They have enough regular items and specialty that you can find almost anything in the aisles. I love that they have a few tasting items at the back of the store and the coffee is fresh! Just what you need when shopping in my opinion. Things are well laid out with multiple options, but what I live the most is their fun 99 cent cards. So much variety and great designs for dollar store prices. Trader Joe's is the Disneyland of grocery stores. Does that make me old? Maybe. I don't care. I love it here. And this location is great, specifically because every single time I come in, the employees are genuinely kind to me. And when I have my toddler with me, they're kind to him, too. Plus, they're products are all so good and they always have something fun and new to try. During busy weeks, my husband and I survive off of their frozen Indian meals (the fish korma is bomb). Their snacks all slap too. I'm sad that we don't have a TJs on the west side so we have to drive 30 minutes - but it's worth the drive every time. read more

I love Trader Joe's. It is truly that simple. My favorite part is that I am able to hey something new every time I walk in to the store. Today I came in for my grocery shop and there were a few things missing, but overall it was a feast experience, as usual! i just love tj's. i have some staple items i only get from here like my tea and a few freezer foods. i wish indy had more locations but i'm glad we have any at all lol. the store associates know their stuff! when i was walking up to check out i was looking for a milk chocolate bar that usually sits at the register but it wasn't there. the clerk immediately says "it was always there but we did a reset so now it's only in the freezer aisle. can i walk you back to it?" he was patient and kind. the store is always clean and fully stocked. except for that one time the truck didn't deliver cookie butter cookies for 2 weeks . the items are reasonably priced and the lines move fast. the stores are stocked based on region so those new meals or goodies you see posted online are dependent on the area you live in. read more

Have yall been to the magical store of Trader Joe's yet? Because if not, you need to go there like yesterday. I haven't been in forever since I live on the southwest side. I was on the North side last week and decided to stop by. I forgot how wonderful it is!! If you are a fellow wine-o like myself, you'll be in heaven. They have such a variety of wines that I've never even heard of... for cheap! They are also so unique, I got literally a 2ft bottle of pinot grigio for $12. The food selection here is also super unique, things you won't find in a normal grocery store. For example, crunchy okra chips, cauliflower gnocchi, hashbrowns(mcdonalds kind), specialized soups, coconut aloe water, and so much more!! The employees here are also SO friendly. I had Jo as a checkout person... that was the first time that I've enjoyed checking out at a store in a long time!! She was so friendly and we kept up a conversation the entire time. I truly appreciate it!! My only request is to pleeeease open a store on the southwest side, so I can basically give you all my money! read more

Trader Joe's has a reputation for being a clean, happy, shopping experience, but I've got to say this location is definitely a whole lot nicer than even the ones I've been to in New Orleans! As a scientist, I'm also super happy with their Covid protections in place... Everyone wears masks, limiting number of people inside, making you wait in 6 foot line outside the store (under a tent so you're not just standing in the sun or rain, bonus points!), and employees sanitize carts in between uses. Plus hand sanitizer at the checkout counter and plexiglass shields to protect the employees. I totally get big businesses protecting customers because that's how they make their money, but it really says something about a company that implements practices to keep their employees safe as well! The employees at this location are always kind, friendly, and joke around with me when I'm in the store... It's one of the least stressful grocery experiences I've ever had, Covid or not. The products are always fresh and delicious and I love the Joe's brand of snacks. Some notable treats: Joe's fresh cheese line, $3 bottles of charles shaw wine, crispy crunchy chocolate chip cookies (light and made with coconut!), Gone bananas! Trader Joe's is doing a great job of keeping store patrons safe during COVID. They have a great system in place to space you out while waiting for your turn to go in and number of people in the store is limited. Carts are cleaned and shoppers are not allowed to bring in their own shopping bags. All the staff was pleasant and wearing masks. read more

The workers are always so friendly and willing to offer suggestions on what you should get or commiserate with you when you go in for bread and end up speeding $40 instead. They also always have really interesting seasonal variations of items. I love fall when their squash and pumpkin stuff comes out. And when their winter blend coffee comes out.
