Trader Joe's has a reputation for being a clean, happy, shopping experience, but I've got to say this location is definitely a whole lot nicer than even the ones I've been to in New Orleans! As a scientist, I'm also super happy with their Covid protections in place... Everyone wears masks, limiting number of people inside, making you wait in 6 foot line outside the store (under a tent so you're not just standing in the sun or rain, bonus points!), and employees sanitize carts in between uses. Plus hand sanitizer at the checkout counter and plexiglass shields to protect the employees. I totally get big businesses protecting customers because that's how they make their money, but it really says something about a company that implements practices to keep their employees safe as well! The employees at this location are always kind, friendly, and joke around with me when I'm in the store... It's one of the least stressful grocery experiences I've ever had, Covid or not. The products are always fresh and delicious and I love the Joe's brand of snacks. Some notable treats: Joe's fresh cheese line, $3 bottles of charles shaw wine, crispy crunchy chocolate chip cookies (light and made with coconut!), Gone bananas! Trader Joe's is doing a great job of keeping store patrons safe during COVID. They have a great system in place to space you out while waiting for your turn to go in and number of people in the store is limited. Carts are cleaned and shoppers are not allowed to bring in their own shopping bags. All the staff was pleasant and wearing masks. read more

The workers are always so friendly and willing to offer suggestions on what you should get or commiserate with you when you go in for bread and end up speeding $40 instead. They also always have really interesting seasonal variations of items. I love fall when their squash and pumpkin stuff comes out. And when their winter blend coffee comes out. I absolutely love this grocery store! They have so many good food options and it never disappoints. This is my go to spot for some good wine as well. They have a wide selection and the cost isn't as bad as you think it would be compared to other grocery stores. The produce and already made food items are always fresh. In lieu of the Christmas season, they currently have candy cane Oreo cookies that are so delicious! I even picked up their 12 days of beauty box! Oops, they done it again! Trader Joe's @86th has officially Stolen My Heart!!!! Being from a rural area about 90 minutes from Indy, I only visit this store about every 2-3 months. That being said, my twin sister and I were shopping here this past Monday, 07NOV2022, at around 1230. My sister had a long, written list of foods and items she wanted. I was along for the ambiance, fun items and seasonal foods that I always buy for the holidays. As usual, Trader Joe's did NOT disappoint! I love their variety and their very reasonable prices! Aside from the clean, organized and overall tidy store, the real story is the PEOPLE working at this location! I'll start with an extremely fit and fast-moving man named Cory (who also happens to be the head wrestling coach at Brebeuf! I overheard him talking in the produce department!) He lapped the store dozens of times and knew where every bit of produce was located and/or when it would arrive at the store! He also magically showed up at the check out and got an extra cart then helped my sister to the car with both of her cart-loads! Amazing! Then "The Bread Guy"...this man was a total dude, rocked a beautiful white ponytail and was absolutely hilarious! I didn't get this name, and I apologize. You will know him when you see him! So so fun! Lastly, we head to the check-out. My sister's cart is piled to the sky, and we are carrying huge bottles of bubbly. Ed sees us approaching, and asks if we are 21. (Hilarious, as we just turned 50!) He also looks at us for a minute and figures out we are twins! He then tells my sis he "loves the big orders" and asks if we couldn't wait just a minute. He flies across the store and returns a minute later with floral bouquets. He comes back and says, "Twin Tuesday on a Monday!" And he gives us each beautiful fresh cut flowers for free! What?! Who does that?! In the meantime, the most adorable woman has joined the check-out party and is talking and laughing and helping to bag the goodies. Her name is Camille. She and Ed and Cory really are amazing people! They collectively made my day, and my twin sister's too! Trader Joe's @86th is lucky to have these people in their employ. I've always been a lover of Trader Joe's! Love the food items, friendly staff, and prices. And during this pandemic, I'd like to commend Trader Joe's for sticking to their core values and continuing to provide amazing service. There has been a line to get into the store just about every time I've gone in, but the process is very organized. The staff keeps used carts separate from the sanitized, have a little sign that lets you know how long the wait will be, and set up placemats to ensure everyone is standing 6 feet apart while waiting. The other day, the gentleman working outside was so friendly and positive, and made sure to chat with everyone who waited outside. He said he was thankful to still be working and it really just put things in perspective. read more

Trader Joes is always such a fun place to shop! I love going here when I just need a "few things" and am always amazed at how other items seem to jump in my cart... The produce selection may not be extensive, but what they have is always high quality, and for me part of the fun is seeing what they have on a given day. Today I left with blood oranges, which were a great deal at $2.49 a bag, asparagus, kale and sweet potatoes. They have excellent easy meal options, including a nice assortment of fresh ravioli. The cheese selection is great with some wonderful deals on nice selections for a cheese board. They carry excellent frozen foods as well. I love their waffles, pizzas, and microwaveable lunches that include Indian and other options that are much more interesting than those offered by major brands. They have great prices on basics like milk, eggs, coffee, pasta, tea, yogurt, bread and cereal. Everything is high quality, and store brand granolas are particularly great! Things like pesto and sun dried tomatoes are much less expensive an elsewhere. Beer and wine selection is quite good, and again, prices are very reasonable. The "three buck chuck" is perfect for cooking! It is quite drinkable but I don't feel guilty pouring a cup or two into a sauce, soup or stew! Don't miss the flowers near the enterance! At $3.99 a bouquet, they are great for brightening up the house without a special occasion. My downfall here usually involves the sweets....dark chocolate covered raisins, dark chocolate sea salt caramels, triple ginger cookies, etc. The peanut butter filled pretzels are super addictive. Staff are always very friendly and helpful! They know the products they sell very well and can answer questions about any of them! read more

I love Trader Joes and it has been my go to for so many things. However the past year I have noticed some employees are just not as friendly and helpful. Some of the reliables at checkout have been great. However. I witnessed a manager giving it to a worker bee and that did not sit right. He had the power and she had to just take it. I felt really badly for her. This didn't happen today (previous visit). I just hope that if the management from Trader Joe's read these reviews they are a little kinder and more appreciative to worker bees. People watch how you treat your biggest asset. I've been going here since it opened, long ago. Some of its price advantages have been lost, but this location is well-stocked. I used to go for a very wide variety of food, but honestly, the prices have slowly climbed while few have fallen. The wines can be great, even if you don't know what you're doing. I've found very few duds-- but the 2buck Chuck is loaded with sulfites and gives me a serious headache. Others, even inexpensive versions, are fairly good. I'm glad they treat themselves as grocers, inasmuch as places like Kroger waste too much floor space on items that simply aren't groceries, then run out of advertised specials, and even staples. I see many employees that have been at this location for more than a decade, and that's an encouraging sign. They lose out on my cheese purchases, produce, and frozen goods-- the competition has caught up with them. read more

I don't think I've ever met someone who has bad things to say about Trader Joe's. The price is super affordable, the items are unique, and they have the nicest employees working here. I love that the employees are encouraging customers to try new products and the sample area ALWAYS has the best concoction of ideas. I've gotten many recipe inspirations from their sample booth. Trader Joe's has been one of my favorite stores to frequent since moving to Indy a few years ago. The stuff is so SO friendly, always making sure to ask if there's anything they can help you find. I absolutely LOVE this trader joes!!! I always drive the extra distance to visit my Joe's family. I discovered trader joes when we use to live 2 minutes away (five years ago). I LOVE the TJ Team Members energy. I've NEVER seen anyone with a frown on their face. Can you believe it?!?! For five years, they have always made my grocery shopping experience blissful. When we moved further north, I remember telling Bruce (TJ Member) that I will always come stock up every month at their location. The one off of Allisonville road is actually closer to me but I can't seem to let go of my TJ Fam. Bruce is AWESOME-SAUCE! He loves people! I consider myself lucky to live in a city with two Trader Joes, and working about a mile from this one, it's a quick stop on my way home for cheese, wine or even fresh flowers. When I walk into the store, the first place I head for is the cheese selection. I could spend 30 minutes here easily, but usually limit myself to less than 5. I walk away with a nice brie, a blue cheese, and usually something new. I've found many great cheeses this way. A lot of people go to Trader Joe's for the wine selection and the cheap prices. I'll admit to snagging a few bottles when I stop in after work from time to time. Sure, they have "Two Buck Chuck" that's not bad for it's $2.99 price tag, but they also have several of other varieties that are under $10 too. If you're not shopping for wine, I'd recommend maybe coming on a Sunday when you can't buy wine in Indiana -- the lines will be much shorter and the aisles less crowded. read more

Trader Joe's constantly knocks my socks off with exquisite products, service, and a vibey ambience. My favorite products are the Unsalted Tortilla Chips (seriously fire), This Apple Walks into a Bar Bar, and the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dunkers. Must haves when stopping at my local TJs. Also, their ice cream is low key dec as well. I simply wish they had more amazing products as it is not a one-stop shop on my grocery day. Regarding the service, the crew is so nice! This is such a cute and cozy store. I kinda get overwhelmed when I enter large grocery stores but this store is small and perfect!!! It has almost everything you need! I walked in and they had the cart wipes which is a plus in my book! Then you enter into the produce section which is perfect because I like to grab my items and go. Whenever I walked into different aisles, different employees offered their assistance and asked if they could help me find something.... that's another plus in my book! I came in for some soup, bananas and local honey! They had everything except the local honey but I will definitely be back to shop again. As I was checking out.. the cash register employee was very personable asked how my day was and also talked about the weather... I enjoy the little things! Love this place but it's very difficult to describe. It's an eclectic blend of unusual items plus commonplace items with almost everything at a great price. I've heard it said that it has the same parent company as Aldi's but I don't see any of the same grocery items. Shopping at Trader Joe's is the most pleasant grocery shopping experience that I have ever had. I usually dread going to the grocery store--which usually means a trip to Wal-Mart. However, I actually look forward to spending money at Trader Joe's. This location of Trader Joe's is extraordinarily clean, and the staff go out of their way to assist their customers. The products that Trader Joe's offers are of exceptional quality, and the chain seems to value healthy choices. The staff was quick to inform me that all products with the Trader Joe's brand name (which is most products) are all GMO free. Although this claim has been disputed, I feel better know that I am most likely purchasing products that have been freed from Monsanto's seemingly poisonous monopoly. Trader Joe's also certifies that their milk products are free of rBST, which is a frequently used bovine hormone. They also have organic milk and vegetables, readily available. You'd be surprised how much better these products taste. Trader Joe's also carries reasonably priced nutritional supplements and hygiene products. Their brand-name supplements are equal in price to what you would pay for a similar product at Wal-Mart. Trader Joe's also carries Dr. Bronner's Magic soap, which is amazing. What's equally as amazing is that at Trader Joe's, this soap is sold at a generous discount (about 30%). If you're like me, you may shop at Wal-Mart (or another large retailer) in order to keep your grocery bill to a minimum. If so, you'll be happy to know that Trader Joes's is very reasonably priced. My grocery bill is only several dollars higher at Trader Joe's than it is at Wal-Mart. The staff are very friendly, and they are all very knowledgeable about their products, and even comparable ones. This is a great place for allergy-sufferers because they list all the ingredients out, even spices. I am very picky about frozen meals and theirs are actually very good. They have a great seafood selection which was a pleasant surprise. They have fresh coffee and little samples in the back of the store that gives you a chance to try new things. The multigrain bread from the bakery, I think it is called farmers bread, is my favourite bread for sandwiches. There are a ton of fun treats to try, especially seasonal items and sweets. THe produce is usually very fresh, and they have some very good prices on produce. Another thing I love is the fresh orange juice. We also almost always try a new cheese. It can be a little crowded sometimes, and it does feel small- sometimes you have to slide past people just because of aisle size. It might be my imagination but I think the other customers are oddly more rude than the general standard of people... but that is not really the store's fault. We don't have a Trader Joe's on our side of town, so it isn't practical to shop for perishable foods here. But when I am in the area, it is a place I stop by to see what food items are out there that I hadn't discovered yet. In some cases, when I am about finished with my business on the north side, I actually make purchases that I can trust to stay fresh on the drive home. Such was the case on my most recent visit. The vibe was inviting and friendly, not like the big box stores that have every item you need and more that you never will. Here they have variety and that in itself is interesting. And the prices, while maybe not the same as the giants, is reasonable and worth the quality. I visited this location during the week and in my opinion it was very crowded. This made shopping difficult, but not horribly unpleasant. We didn't have any interaction with employees until we checked out. Our cashier was very attentive, friendly and had a sense of humor. Would go back here again if we were ever in the area. I long for a TJ's in South Bend and make a point of visiting this location every time I am in Indy. Now, I've never met at Trader Joe's I didn't like, but feel this one goes above and beyond. The staff is always friendly and engaging. They certainly know how to upsell and we've made several purchases based on their recommendations. During our most recent visit, one of the guys was stocking the shelves near the spices and asked if we had tried the coffee BBQ rub. He went so far as to show my husband some pictures of his most recent grilling adventure. At a $1.99 and limited time offering, we couldn't resist. I love Trader Joe's, and this location is great! I think my only complaint here is that they always blast the AC really cold. Other than that, the staff is super friendly, the store is always clean, the prices are great, and the selection is awesome. I love coming here!
