Like everyone else in this universe, I love going to Trader Joe's to see what is new. Today on my recent trip, I just found out that I can get a whole box of Chomps turkey jerky and I am totally excited about it as I love bringing it on my long hikes. I also found out that they have chocolate covered pistachios. This is just a genius idea. Trader Joe's is just a scavenger hunt for things that are uniquely different. Their prices are very competitive. Their produce is very economical and fresh and really geared towards people who have a limited amount of time to food prep. I love it because it enables me to meal prep in less time than I would need otherwise. I love Trader Joe's. It will always remain one of my favorite convenient supermarkets. This location by Stanford was very busy because it's in the center with a lot of other restaurants and shops. This Trader Joe's is located at Town & Country. Parking can be challenging here most of the time. Often come here to pick up the lentil chips and almond butter cups for my niece in Singapore. Not sure why she loves them so much. Oh and she is crazy about those TJ espresso beans which I can't get hold of them most of the time. Staffs were very helpful during all the times I was there. The recent experience with a packaged chicken was especially concerning: inside the sealed container, I found multiple feather shafts ("hairs") and part of the black rear area of the bird, which should never appear in a properly processed product. So I have been shopping at this one for years. It's either this one or the one at San Antonio Road in Mt View. This one can have a line, depending on when you come in. The prices are pretty good, the staff are excellent, always helpful and kind and funny. :) I remember helping bag onetime, remembering the prices of the items and the amount of produce I put in my cart and the cashier was..do you work at one of our stores..I said " nope but perhaps I should" ;-) So why would I come here versus some of the others in the area? Its my experience here. Now mind you, waiting in line can be annoying to all of us, but this is the new normal that we have to deal with now. The products that I usually stay away from here are their meats and say their cheeses. I believe these prices are a bit steep and remind me of Whole Foods in that arena. But when it comes to say staples, and vegetables and fruits and say milk and almond and soy milk, they are excellent, and then my spanikopita that I like here. Not a cheese connoisseur but do love a good brand to tickle my adventurous taste buds. Not firm like cheddar but bitable and creamy buttery with a noticeable zesty tang on the tongue that melts-in-mouth and sure to bring happiness. Satisfying savory snack on its own speckled with bits of herbaceous chives and onions which gives this a distinctive pale orange appearance. This particular cheese has strong melting points - pairs beautifully well with Zinfandel or intensely fruity Shiraz or opt with a light chilled beer any time of the day. Who does not like snappy dill pickles and better yet in a wonderful potato chip form, in moderation of course? Perfect blend of bold dill and zippy tang. Must try for all flavor adventurers. Luck of the draw as seasoning distribution was perfect - each russet potato sliver had a briny dill-y zesty ka-pow when bitten. Trader Joe's is a go to for fresh produce, easy dinners, flowers, and allllllll the snacky snacks. They are very Covid safe, so I feel confident shopping here. I love picking up fresh flowers here. My primary go-to for groceries. I love that TJ's doesn't have rotating sales, because I can buy what I want instead of buying what I think I should because I can save 20 cents. The store's also the perfect size for an enjoyable browsing experience or an efficient only-what's-on-the-list run. TJ's has clean high quality produce and staple goods like milk and eggs. They also have a lot of solid items that I often grab unplanned, and rarely regret buying. Latest delicious finds include their ginger and pork soup dumplings, assorted tamales, garlic naan, and seasonal items like spiced apple cider and ube ice cream. They also have a really lovely selection of plants outside the entrance, at very reasonable prices. I bought a spider plant at a nursery only to find TJ's had a larger spider plant for a cheaper price in a nicer pot. Oh! And their staff are all really nice, from the front door greeter dispensing hand sanitizer, to the checkout staff who have mastered friendly casual conversation as they validate your purchase choices. read more

It's Trader Joe's... There is a parking lot and parking has been better in the times of coronavirus but I would recommend going during the week and before 4pm if you're able to. Staff and COVID-19 protocols: The staff are very friendly, helpful and are great about limiting the number of people in to shop at a time, they'll spray alcohol on your hands when you enter (and sometimes when you exit), all carts and baskets are sanitized and the cashier wipes down each check out lane after each person checks out. You can now bring your own reusable bags. Random: I like picking up a premade salad for lunch at work. They also have a really good Trader Joe's Oolong tea. Lots of different types of tea including Tejava Black Tea, matcha tea, and Korean style barley tea. Their chocolate covered expresso beans and sunflower peanut butter cups are yummy of you're looking for sweets. I have been once or twice when they're between stocking the shelves so they didn't have everything but I'm sure that happens with any grocery store. Freezer items: I like trying their different freezer items. Their soup dumplings were surprisingly good for frozen dumplings. Their frozen gnocchi in most of their varieties have always been a hit when we've got them. Oh and their mochi is pretty good too! Produce: The produce has to be consumed fairly quickly before they go bad but tastes good. They used to have a really nice beef tenderloin but I haven't seen any in ages. Meats: There are BBQ cut salmon which is pretty good and there is different types of hot dogs, NY strip steaks but not a large selection of seafood or white meats. Overall: It's a medium small sized grocery store that'll be cheaper than whole foods. Staff is really nice, parking has been good lately but since it is apart of the Town and Country Plaza it can get difficult to park. The line will be busy after work and on the weekends. read more

10/4/2020- Trader Joe's is my favorite place to shop at. They have great protocols to ensure safety and hygiene during the pandemic, such as enforcing social distancing and good sanitation practices (at the entrance and exits, staff will offer everyone a spritz of hand sanitizer). TJ's are always stocked with fresh produced and delicious treats! My favorite part is trying their new products because it seems like you can never go wrong with grabbing a random item off the shelf. As a student at Stanford, this is the closet, most affordable grocery store. I have to drive 15-20 minutes to get to other grocers. The pork gyoza potstickers, chimichurri rice, gnocchi, and shiitake mushroom chicken frozen foods always make my shopping list. I also love so many of their snack items, like the strawberry and/or berry licorice, milk chocolate smashing Smores, and their herbs and spices popcorn. All of these snacks are delicious! Can't help myself from sharing a bit of the history behind Trader Joe's: In 1958, Joe Coulombe took over a small chain of convenience stores around the LA area. These were called Pronto Markets. The whole idea was fast. Pronto - quick, right? And they were convenience stores, before we really even know what convenience stores were. The kind of place where you could get anything from, say, a pack of gum to some pantyhose. I can't find a better place that provides both great prices and quality. Whole foods seems like a rip off compared to this place. This particular location also seems to have some of the nicest people- though that seems to go for any TJ's I've ever been to. After 10 years of running Pronto Markets, the convenience store formula just didn't continue to make sense. So, Joe, the classic entrepreneur, took note that the demographics were changing in the United States because of the G.I. Bill of Rights, a large experiment in mass higher education, and identified an opportunity to deliver... something different. The food gets rearranged sometimes which can be disorienting but everything you need is here- including the recipes you didn't know you needed! TJ's manages to put together combinations of ingredients you'd never dream of and they somehow work. Zest with chocolate, etc, perhaps not ideas owned by TJ's but they get points for their creativity. The first Trader Joe's store opened in 1967 in Pasadena, California. (That store is still there. It's still operating. It still has the same parking lot.) The store had a nautical theme and it was run by people who were described as "traders on the high seas." At the time, Joe had been reading a book called "White Shadows in the South Seas," and he'd been to the Disneyland Jungle Trip ride, and it all just...coalesced. To this day, Trader Joe's Crew Members consider themselves "traders on the culinary seas" and are known for their bright, tropical-patterned shirts and for generally being nice, helpful, and well informed. If you're like me and you get their Fearless Flyer updates, it's awesome. The quality and selection of their new recipes always impresses me. Honestly it's hard to pick a season for my favorites, but autumn and the pumpkin-themed snacks they come out with is always super impressive. I'm talking pumpkin-themed oreos, pumpkin-themed soups and the like. My wife makes a killer butternut squash and pumpkin soup, and I'm waiting for her carrot and ginger soup (key secret ingredient: organic gala apples), which she says was inspired by a soup they have here at Trader Joe's. And then in 1972, Joe introduced a total game changer for Trader Joe's... Granola. Not just any granola, though. This was the first private label Trader Joe's product. Staff are super friendly, always stocking on items, and they try to make the lines go fast. It's clean and organized, location is a tad small but it does the job. But this TJ's is TJ's on steroids, TJ's 2.0, TJJ!, I feel like things are more in stock, more food choices, I might have even seen a unicorn prancing down the isles a couple times. But perhaps I'm just really amp'd from their sample section. Yes I am a freebie lover! And this place has the nicest sampler section, it's right next to the bathroom, served one of the best samples I've ever had at TJ (fig crackers with fig butter and cream cheese), had coffee, and even something I didn't expect, watermelon flavored water. And of course the guy manning the bar was exceptional. Honestly I just had a really good experience at this TJ and feel like I should push forward the good karma. Wow, what a turn around Town and Country has gone through. Not since the opening of Hobee's and Jamba juice do I remember a weekend being this crowded. I mean parking is just insanity here and I got really lucky someone backed out as I turned into the row. Otherwise I watched tons of people circling like vultures over carrion. As you'd expect, the Trader Joe's stamp is just like any other one and even the placement of items is just like every other one. It's new and nice however and the cool thing? The lady in front of me pulls out the check book. Im like, Oh man Im f'd. But the clerk looks at her and says "I can print that for you". Thank goodness. How awesome are these guys? I came in here about a week ago and I always pick up about the same three items occasionally I'll use the restroom and sample the nice stuff they have on display. so while I was at the counter my last time checking out I always pick up one of these protein shakes that Trader Joe's carries. My only complaint I've ever really have had, and it really is a first world problem, is that they don't have them chilled or cold their really just about room temperature. Now room temperature for me with the shakes its not that bad but it would be a lot better if they were actually chilled. While I was checking out at the counter last time I was here I made mention of that to the gentleman who was checking me out at the counter. after mentioning that I come back in a couple days later only to discover bingo they are now being chilled above the freezers! Talk about listening to your customer and taking care of the little guy. honestly I would have been back here for hundred times maybe 500 no stopping me I love Trader Joes. however it is so nice to see such a small change to help you throughout your shopping experience. I am not at all from this neighborhood location. I did have to stop here however to pick up a few snacks and things for my group as we were traveling further north. The people who work here are absolute angels. I had no idea where i was going. I could almost find an employee in every aisle. None of them were too busy to answer my questions. And even better, each of them had the correct answer to all of my questions. The store is super busy and apparently this is a fairly new location. I'm glad that I stopped in.
