Trader Joe's is my favorite grocery store in Redding. Customer service is fantastic and they have a lot of veggie options both fresh and frozen. Today I went in with my mom and sister and Sarah the cashier really made our day a million times better! She practically waited on us hand and foot. She joked with us and was very kind. I'm temporarily yanking a star, Goddamnit. This here's a protest song. I buy into the original philosophy of Trader Joe's -- the notion that someone on a teacher's salary ought to be able to afford food that was at one time considered "gourmet" or "Continental" and thus reserved for the relatively affluent. I like that you can get a variety of really amazing warm-weather varietal wines from the south of Italy for $5 a bottle if you're willing to veer away from varietals that are familiar faces. I'll avert my gaze from the rumors that TJ's can be downright nasty about grinding down food producers to get rock-bottom wholesale prices. But I'm jerking a star on account of one particular gripe that I need to get off of my chest: At best, TJ's provided C- quality control on it's products. More than once I've purchased meat from TJ's, taken it home, punctured the shrink-wrap, and released The Nasty-ass Funk into my kitchen's airspace. And I'm done buying salsa at TJ's -- it's fizzy with fermentation every other time you buy it, and it's not worth the coin flip. Maybe those are not corporate QC issues. Those might be local QC issues, I've rationalized. But, see, coffee is kind of a big deal to me. I prefer dark roasts, and I prefer beans grown in Sumatra and neighboring lands for their rich, weighty, earthy, robust flavors. You can keep anything described as "bright" or "fruity" -- Hawaiian coffee tastes like aluminum foil to me. When I open a fresh container of coffee, I want to see dark, fat, oily beans, and I want to smell toasted tropical humus. We go through so much coffee that I usually buy two containers of Dark Sumatra at a time, and it never used to disappoint. But the last two canisters I've opened have contained lightly burnished, dry, small, immature-looking beans. Indistinguishable in any way from cheap, crappy Columbian beans.....which I suspect they might be. It's as if some TJ's coffee broker is betting that its customers are purchasing labels, and are too effing dumb to notice the difference regarding whatever they stuff inside the packaging. I'm just telling you, TJ's........I call bullshit on whatever you're currently trying to pass off as "Dark Sumatra." Shit's barely distinguishable from a can of oak wood shavings. read more

Oh, Trader Joes. I love you. Great options, clean store... But your produce is not good. So many disappointing times, I come home with what appears to be a spritely, fresh onion. But I cut into it, to find a stinky and rotten center. Bad produce. Your frozen foods are perfect, and your pre-made meals are tasty. But I can't help but notice that your employees are always having a party, that I am not invited to. I'm not asking for much, just a smile and a "How's it going?" would suffice... I supposed I can't have it all. Also, I wouldn't come in between 3:00-6:00 when all the Bethel students are getting their shopping done... Unless you like trying to shuffle your way around a group of crying girls, or someone trying to pray over your choice of broccoli. read more

I've never been more pleased with a grocery store than I have with this one. The managers treated me better than I expected on more than one occassion. They have a joyful and generous response if you ever have an issue. A few months ago I walked into this store to grab a sandwich off the shelf for a quick lunch. I had only 30 minutes. Every single checkout counter was open and there were about 8 people in line for each one. That's a popular store. So I asked the manager at the customer service counter if I could pay him for the $3.99 sandwich. He said to me, just take it. It's free for you today. i MADE SURE TO GO BACK THE NEXT DAY AND PAY FOR THAT SANDWICH. I was really pleasantly surprised at how they treated me. It was above and beyond what I hoped for. Also, if I ever have a question about a product or need help, their staff are knowledgeable and very friendly. I've never lived near a Trader Joe's before coming to Redding. I am their top fan now. What is going on with the Redding Trader Joe's? Shopped on Friday before Christmas..........cashier says they do double the business for the holidays.......O.K. great. That would explain the frantic folks crowding the aisles. So if they are moving that much product........what's with the english muffins with mold the NEXT day??? Single serving salad with all the trimmings; VERY slimmy??? Blueberries that were 85% rotten.......(o.k. so I should know better than to buy Argentinian Blues in Dec.....)%#?@)&. I love Trader Joe's I work about a block away and about 1-2 times a week I come here for their salads. I love their Crunchy Slaw with chicken, crispy noodles and peanut dressing. Oh and their Kale salad is good too. There are many choices for lunch here. from egg rolls, sushi, salads, wraps, I mean they have a ton of healthy stuff you can pick out that makes a great lunch. I love going here also because they have different stuff than your typical grocery store. From their meat selection to an array of nuts and grains, and healthier choices. Plus you have to love the mini shopping carts to keep the little ones busy. Oh and who can forget the atmosphere and music. People are always happy and ready to help and the music they play over the store makes your cooking desire inspire! Seriously I find myself picking out all kinds of unique things. I know they do it as most companies do as a selling technique but it really is feel good music and who don't want that. I say if you have never been take a trip to trader joe's you will find some interesting stuff and if you are a regular you know what i mean. read more

Or family loves Trader Joes and shop here often. For larger sized items we still stick to places like Costco, but for snacks, wine, or a meal on the go for two we will purchase here. Love the variety of chocolate, cheeses and wines. TJ's coffee is good too and low priced. If you are into no HF Corn Syrup, check labels, as (in spite of my previous hope) this isn't a health food store and some of the items will have ingredients like HFCS. Overall, an easy 5 *****. Customer service is always wonderful. The coffee samples and food samples at the back are also a fun bonus for shopping here. read more

Doesn't have everything, but has many things of top quality that you can't find elsewhere in Redding. Here's some of my favorite items: - Pear tarte - Anything with scallops - Bags of herbed sliced potatoes, wild mushrooms, and green beans (great in egg scrambles!) - 4-cheese macaroni and cheese - Maple-oat-pecan cereal I recommend trying this place out; it's probably the best grocery store in Redding. read more

First let me say Buzz F is a really classy guy. For someone that claims to have refined tastes I would think his comments and language could be expressed with some class and intelligence. My Trader Joes experience is always a happy one from the selections, to the prices and the staff. If I ever become dislpleased I will speak with the store manager directly so they have the opportunity to investigate the problem and remedy it as they see fit. Usually I can't say enough in favor of their friendly staff,however, today I was processed(that's how it felt), by a guy who spent the entire time talking to an associate about his previous job that paid $200 an hour! So...like most Yelp-ers I would never dream of wasting my time reviewing a grocery store, but I am writing this because I hope their management sees this sometime or another. I was just shopping around for some snacks and had a great time doing it. That's right. I straight up had a GREAT TIME in a Trader Joe's while shopping for snacks to munch on a road trip. I'm not about to post any spoilers but let's just say the ambiance was better than some parties I've been to. This was also close to closing time, so I'd say there were more employees in the store than customers, but they were still extremely pleasant and just. yeah. You need to go in on a Sunday night to understand. P.S. If you want to keep this 5-star rating never ever EVER play kids bop again. Need fiber? TJ's Organic Raisin Bran ==== 9 grams of fiber per each serving cup. Gotta take your medicine? A cup of this is 36% of what you should be taking in for fiber. Tasty and not too shabby. TJ's High Fiber Cereal ====9 grams of fiber for every 2/3 cup. Add a some frozen fruit, maybe a little white sugar and you're good to not be gagging. Consume 2 cups of one or both of these cereals and you'll be feeling your oats, pal. Can you whinny? Can you cry out after eating a bowl of this stuff: HI YO SILVER! It's hard to find the fiber content found in these cereals as compared in other brands. Next time the guy doing the "up periscope" in the old fanny tells you that's it's fiber time or else you know where to go and what to do. read more

Trader Joe's in general gets 5 stars from me, however, today this store in particular really made me see another side of the generally great customer service. I am turning 30 in a month and had to get my license renewed, the DMV punched a hole in my current card and gave me a temporary paper license along with it to show the new valid dates. The punched card clearly shows my photo, DOB etc. Today I bought a cart full of groceries including a bottle of Chardonnay. When asked for my ID, I presented both my card and paper, assuming that it was just a legal requirement/box to check to ask for me to present it as I have purchased alcohol from this EXACT TJs almost weekly for the last 3 years. I've even had this cashier dozens of times. She called a manager over and stated "it depends on which one you get" referring to whether or not my ID would be sufficient. First, I'm obviously irritated that they won't accept a form of ID that Win River and Shameless O'Learys accepted this weekend but also that they refused to even read what i was handing them. It was certainly embarrassing to be refused an item I have been legally able to buy for 9 years. I understand that they have the right to refuse service for whatever reason but the manager, Zach, didn't even LOOK at me. I am clearly over the age of 21 and am a frequent customer. It's also frustrating to know that there is clearly not a company policy on this matter as, according to the cashier, it depended on who came over to inspect my license. (I'm going to assume it's because one can't read, and that's the one I got, otherwise there's a little enforcement problem going on.) So disappointed in this store, if I didn't love their products so much, I would never go back but, unfortunately I won't make the drive to Chico on a weekly basis. read more

I give it four stars because I'm not really sure of any grocery store is a five-star facility but I can say that Trader Joe is very clean they have a large organic section if you're into that the staff were very friendly and very helpful the customer seemed pleased to be shopping and talk with other customers and they have tables outside where you can consume some of your purchases they always have free samples their coffee is excellent all in all I would recommend Trader Joe to anybody not on a budget because it is a spending store but you can't beat the quality I would highly recommend Trader Joe to anybody that wants good produce good coffee or good cheese at a good price read more

Doesn't matter what Trader Joe's I shop at, j just love this place regardless. The choice of marinated meats are delicious and tasty. Love the Havarti dill cheese, definitely my favorite but I could say that about a lot of things offered. Drive by Redding TJ yesterday. Fairly good sized line however the store had provided a shade area for its patrons. Took notice of an employee vigorously cleaning the carts out in front so patrons knew an effort was being made to sanitize, distance, protect and care about the customer during covid. The customer service is the best that I have ever experienced. When I was in the hospital, my son, simply, handed an employee his phone (I was on the other end), and the employee shopped for me, for two weeks worth of food. I trust Trader Joe's food, much more than hospital food. It's always delicious and GMO free. And, shopping there is always fast, easy & friendly. I love this place! read more

Trader Joe's will forever be my favorite grocery store ever. I'm from the Sacramento area but my family has a ranch up in the hills 30 mins outside of Redding. Coming to Trader Joe's first before heading up the hill is a trip tradition. I felt obligated to leave a review this time because yesterday we spent an entire hour browsing the aisles finding delicious funds to take up to our family. Every employee is so friendly and takes their time to answer any questions you have and give recommendations for their favorite products. My toddler was really fussy towards the end of the trip and was starting to fuss and cry while in the check out line. The cashier noticed and offered to give my daughter some special stickers. She loved them and instantly started placing stickers on my jeans as I was paying. I greatly appreciated her small but kind gesture towards my daughter. It really made a difference. Recently moved up here from Southern California. I'm sooooo happy they have a Trader Joes in Redding! I can't live without it. This one happens to have the best music playing every time I walk in. I pretty much bounce walk the whole time I shop until the moment I leave. Nicest employees. My son who has autism and couldn't speak at the time was signing with his hands. An employee, Maggie, came over, knelt down in front of the stroller to his eye level and signed back to him. It was nice to have somebody do that since a lot of people shy away from what they don't understand. Since then, Maggie and the manager Tom have been my sons buds. So 5 stars for amazing people, great music playlist, and the food...I'll always love the food. read more

Horrible Service Went to pay for items at register; Joe the cashier say's "How you doing Bud?" I said, "My name is Don, not Bud." The cashier went on to argue about how he had a badge and that I didn't, that's why he is calling me Bud. Whatever the case is; it is very disrespectful and condescending. I have been coming here since it opened! We just love it. Prices are fair, food is great, and staff is very nice. Most important thing that would maybe forgotten to mention. Is Safety!!! This is the safest parking lot out of all the local stores. We shop at Costco, Safeway, and Trader Joe's. If safety continues to decline at the other store this will become our only place of choice. I'm referring to the parking lots mostly. It's so nice to feel carefree in walking up to the store. Where as in most other parking lots we are watching over our shoulders, feeling concerned about the people hanging out and hearing bad things about unsafe events in the other parking lots. First let me clarify my rating. I love Trader Joe's and am thrilled we have a TJs in Redding. I shop there a couple times a week....but, until the situation is resolved, I'm afraid I'm going to have to go to Holiday Market. Today, when exiting the store man with the petition who was located directly in front of the entrance door was aggressively trying to get people to sign his petition. He was saying ... "sign my petition save turtle bay". Now absolutely NOTHING could be further from the truth. I'm guessing TJs doesn't think they can control this activity...I disagree. And, I am a strong supporter of Turtle Bay. My grandchildren love it and, whenever they visit, we always have a pleasant, educational, rewarding and insightful visit. I am proud to have Turtle Bay as a part of our community. The petition would devastate Turtle Bay. I support everyone's right to free speech and exercise of their rights, but lying about the facts is inappropriate, misleading and, unfortunately, reflects poorly on TJs. This just really impacted my shopping experience and day. I am a faithful Trader Joe's customer. I was there on May 1st when the Redding store opened and multiple times a week since then. Neither Costco nor Target people in the front of their stores, harassing the shoppers. If TJs wants to support first amendment activities, they could designate a site around the corner. As much as it pains me, I won't be shopping at TJs in Redding until the petition folks leave. I think TJs otherwise does a great job, have great staff, have good food at a good value. read more
