I've been coming to this Trader Joe's regularly and have never had an issue with the staff, but unfortunately this visit was different. As I was walking to the cashier Juliana, she already seemed like she wasn't happy to be there. When she asked if I wanted a bag. I said yes please and she pointed to the bags and told me I could start packing my groceries myself. I didn't mind helping, so I did. However, while I was packing, she started slamming and throwing my groceries like she didn't care. I didn't say anything and remained respectful throughout the interaction. When we were finished, I said, "Thank you, have a good rest of your day," and she didn't respond. I understand the store can get very busy, especially around this time, but there's no reason to treat a customer this way or handle their groceries so carelessly. I spoke with management afterward and they were very helpful and listened to my concerns. I hope they take the situation seriously. read more

One day while on my daily walk in the area, I saw a Trader Joe's sign in the window. When I got back to work, I told all my coworkers a TJ's was opening in the neighborhood. I was super happy when it finally opened and have been happily shopping since day one. I've had such a mix of different interactions from staff members. I've had: Employees that greet me as I reach their register. Employees tell me they love an item I was purchasing. Employees that don't say anything at all. Not a single word. No greeting, no stating items total, and no thank you. I've had an employee throw my item on the little shelf that holds the shopping basket. It bounced off and fell on the floor. He didn't apologize or anything. He didn't offer to get a new item for me. I've seen cashiers who don't want to help the next customer and they start talking to another cashier (not work related) or they duck and hide. I've had a "manager" who was rude and kept cutting me off when I was telling him something positive. Then there are the ideal cashiers. The ones who smile, greet, and thank the customers. Fortunately there are many more good than not so good employees. I hate when TJ's discontinue an item that I love and purchase regularly. Hiding from this heatwave can be challenging. Most homes in San Francisco don't have air conditioning. It's always a nearby supermarket as a default cooling center in San Francisco. I been to most of the Supermarkets in SF. I have gone to all the Safeways , Whole Foods , and Luckys . One supermarket in San Francisco I haven't been to them all until today is the Traders Joes on Laguna and Fulton street. Since it was a hot day I decided to give it a whirl. On the first day of Spring stroll through Hayes Valley I ran into the Trader Joe's on 788 Laguna . This is the newest Trader Joe's in San Francisco. Inside it is spacious and has art tribute to Hayes Valley. You will find aisles of food and drinks. you will find lots of cheese like some in SF. You also find lots of wine and frozen food. It is very consistent with other locations around the city but it's more modern. Don Juan de La Matcha has been going to Trader Joe's since back in the "days" and this newest Trader Joe's in the Valley in San Francisco name "Hayes" and Trader Joe's comes also in a different "phrase "like some private items label inside are called "Trader Jose's" In a heatwave hiding waiting for night and the "La Luna "is Spanish for moon at Traders Joes in San Francisco on "788 Laguna"where they sell shrimp and fish to fry and catch it at the frozen section the "big kahuna "or grab some sandwich fish spread off the shelf like "tuna" read more

Since Trader Joe's opened, I've been cheating on my other two grocery stores. Their unique offerings pull you in like a gravitational field. For speed at the register, most of their produce is prepackaged and usually fresh. They have all the basics and more like fresh jicama and little gem lettuce. I always hit their cheeses and pick up bananas, coconut water, peanut butter and eggs for my swimmer son (Trader Joes' pasture raised eggs are sensibly priced at $5.99 a dozen). They have other unique snacks and (what have become) social media "it" products like seasonally flavored sheet cakes (strawberry is having a moment), brioche Liège style waffles and scented candles (tomato leaf!) For a one-stop supermarket it's very complete except.. they stopped carrying cat food which was always good in a pinch; I just pick up tuna now. It's good to have Trader Joe's on this side of town and the staff who work here are super nice. Free (sane!) well-lit underground parking off Fulton. I appreciate this as parking at other Trader Joe's' locations, particularly Masonic, is chaotic and irksome. I'm now here once a week. read more

I come here to buy specialty food items. I love their bleu cheese, yogurts, and dijon mustard. I tend to come one hour before closing to avoid the long lines. They get really long, like starting at the cheese section. read more

One of my coworker friends who lives in the East Bay asked me a very peculiar question on our way to this new TJ location the other day. "Is there no Trader Joe's in San Francisco? Why is everyone getting so excited about Trader Joe's opening in Hayes Valley?" While I don't claim to know why everyone else is excited, I can at least explain why I personally am excited about this particular opening. Top 2 reasons: Location and Access. While SF has many restaurants and Hayes Valley is certainly not lacking in that department, I can't think of any large grocery store within walking distance of this neighborhood. Maybe Lucky's. But that's nearer Alamo Square. Also, there is planned closure of Safeway in edge of Hayes Valley, Japantown area, so I (and many others) certainly appreciate the timeliness of this TJs opening to fill that void. The other stores like WholeFoods is more towards Pac Height, which as you know is not that near either. The accessibility to fresh grocery is important to a neighborhood. TJ is a mix of convenience foods and specialty snacks as well as more basic food items at reasonable prices that help bridge the needs of the variety of individuals that live in this neighborhood with different economic backgrounds. For these reasons, I'm excited about the opening of this TJs. And the fact that I can now walk to a store during lunch is awesome. Service and ambiance really nice on recent visit. Tip: actual entrance is on Laguna while their official address is on Fulton. read more

After years of waiting, there's finally a Trader Joe's in Hayes Valley!! I stopped by this weekend to get some groceries and a tote bag, and I had a really pleasant experience. Walking in, I was pretty shocked by how spacious it was inside. All the aisles were spaced out and well stocked. There was a decent amount of staff on site, the store was well organized, and the checkout line was pretty short. I've been to three other Trader Joe's locations in the city (downtown, Nob Hill, Masonic), and this is now my favorite. read more

In terms of Trader Joe's locations, this is definitely towards the top of my power rankings. This location opened up this year, and in an area without a bunch of reasonable super market type options, it's a great addition. Especially since it's walking distance from my family's place. Everything here is organized and spread out perfectly so you never feel cramped. The lines are efficient and the staff here is friendly and welcoming. If you are a Trader Joe's chef like myself, they've made eating a joke a breeze with their pre packaged items and snacks. If you haven't tried the cookies and cream pretzels, you're missing out. The kimbab and pork couple dumplings are stables for our fridge along with the sour Scandinavian swimmers for a sweet treat. The chicken and tuna salads are also great for a quick sandwich meal. In an era where groceries seem to be skyrocketing, I feel like the money I spend at Trader Joe's goes a long way. The parking situation is easy since they have a parking garage located under the store. It's a little tight, so driving my truck in gets a lil cramped but I make it work. read more

If you're lucky, after twenty minutes in line your disinterested cashier will mumble some sort of scripted niceties at you while trying to avoid eye contact. The line wraps around the section where all of the staples are (rice, sauce, beans etc) and you cannot shop any of those departments because people are just standing there in the way. I decided to go to Trader Joe's instead of Safeway and I am glad I did. The food here is cheaper than at Safeway and has a wider selection of food. The service was very friendly and the ambience of the place was great. I saved $90.00 shopping here. I highly recommend shopping there. read more

I called here ahead of time to confirm if they take food stamps and I was told the did so I walk 20 minutes or so here and it's in a nice are there is lots of people here this store is small but they have good stuff I got enough to fit in my own bag I only spent $40 for like 10 items not bad they charge for bags so bring your own this place is clean great customer service read more

It's been a while since Trader Joe's opened just a few blocks from me. This is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. Our neighborhood went through some transitions over the last 15 years. A lot of our smaller groceries closed down, leaving some high priced options, but not much else. Although, Nick's market on Page street deserves some kudos for stocking reasonably priced options. There are a few things I love about our Trader Joe's: - The staff are always friendly. They seem neighborly. - It's organized, well lit, and there's been very little drama during the times that I've shopped there. - They have extremely reasonable prices. - I love that I can buy whole chicken. I really don't have anything negative to say. It's a Trader Joe's, and it offers the Trader Joe's things. And it does that very effectively. :-) read more

I love this grocery store! It opened only a couple of weeks after I moved to Hayes Valley. This large new location offers a great selection of snacks and cooking staples. I especially love their selection of vegan cheeses. The staff are always friendly and attentive. Trader Joe's is known for their above and beyond custom service, and this location is no exception. beth kearns, i have shopped many tj's throughout sf and the areas south of sf. at your store this afternoon, my experience- you have plenty of employees on the floor, mostly in pairs chatting away with each other but at every visit i have encountered empty shelves of items i need. your store is open until 9pm but items i needed were already sold out at 2:30- today-bags of whole carrots, and bags of raw walnuts, halves and pcs. i stood at the unattended customer service counter at 2:45 waiting a couple of minutes until the female tj employee ended her conversation with a customer while they stood just outside the booth. she continued her chatting without acknowledging me or telling me she would be with with me. she eventually came through the doorway into the customer service booth. after i listened to her explanations which still left me without items i needed i said there were other tj's that i could shop at and she replied that i could go there. additionally, beth, you may be limited by corporate as to a daily maximum order for items. if that is the case pls pass on to your supervisor and corporate hdqrtrs that customers do not like to repeatedly find items "sold out" early in the afternoon. this discourages customers from returning to your location. read more

Shopped at this Trader Joes on our latest trip in San Francisco. Nice market just like the ones we have at home. This store is much bigger with alot of fresh produce and meats. I was shopping with my child and encountered a very rude cashier. She never greeted us even though we said hello. As we always do we bagged our own groceries and the cashier asked us rudely if we are going to pay as if we were going to run away. I told her i am putting the last produce in the bag and was going to get my wallet out. She even left her post to chase after us. This is such a crazy experience. I complained to the manager on duty all she said is, ok we'll talk to the cashier. No apology or acknowledgment. TJ train your team more so the managers. I am beyond glad that Trader Joe's has finally moved into my neighborhood. The only thing I don't like is the cheese & cold cuts area. It is too cramped, almost claustrophobic. The store has a lot of space compared to other Trader Joe's stores.
