Brought this bag of Kroger BBQ potato chips at Foodsco on Williams in San Francisco. This is their house brand of BBQ chips. Found this garbage inside (see pictures)! Totally gross! It's not potato chips! Don't even know what this is. When I was eating the chips pull this out and it totally grossed me out. I was revolted when I pulled it out as I had been eating these BBQ chips. This place is very welcoming. Staffs are very helpful. I don't need to look for someone that works in a specific department to get help finding item. Staff will guide you to the right location. Place is clean and floors are always swept. Bathrooms are constantly being monitored for cleaning. I love how they play great music that is relaxing. Despite this store being small like a neighborhood store, I give excellent jobs on management ( Tina and Marcel) whom by the way I met and surprised they are actively working doing inventory restocking just like everyone else and not just using their power and make others do what needs to be done. This shows great leadership for making this place welcoming. They don't sell "hot food" like cook chicken, or cook ribs. But that don't makes this place less than excellent. The Foods Co. in the Bayview is a relatively small store, but it has a wide variety of groceries. The store has a good selection of fresh produce, meat, seafood, baked goods, dairy products, frozen foods, and household supplies. The prices at Foods Co. are generally very reasonable. The store often has coupons and promotions that can further lower the prices. The customer service at Foods Co. is generally average. The Cashiers are friendly and helpful if you need to get something from one of the locked boxes. The store is also clean and well-organized, but the outside is not so much as there are a number of panhandlers and third-party hawkers lurking around to sell their wares. The Store has low prices but may not have everything you need. I will still recommend the store if you need some fresh cheap groceries. read more

I ran in here to grab a few things today between 10:00-11:00am I must say the store ambiance was okay, but the security guard was extremely hospitable and sweet. He was the only Associate that greeted me as I came and left. I lived in San Francisco for a long time and being greeted in a business is extremely important. It gives the setting of how your experience can go. If the rating was solely based on that I would give it a five star rating. As I checked out I even heard him offering to help an elder with her groceries. The humanity in his service makes me want to do my shopping there. I hope the store reads this and reaches out to his manager, relays the message and he receives a raise. Well done sir! The produce can be better due to some onions soften and a bit moldy, the mangos are pruning and some of the garlic appears to be browning as well as some other produce items. I usually shop using instacart and I get old fruit and vegetables due to what's presented when the shopper shops. Sometimes a Mango can appear to be ready and once it gets cut open it's brown, or cutting open one of their melons it's soggy. I hate coming here. But they have Poppy Seed salad dressing which my niece and nephew loves. Parking here is always a pain in the a$$ because you have 'thems' ppl blocking, double parking and chatting it up with their friends. Like move out of the way! They stop at the parking entrance saying hi to each other, and screaming across the street. Or when someone is backing out to leave they honk at them to hurry up, no patiences and no manners at all. Flora is the WORST cashier you could possibly have in your company. I was directed to her line by her own manager. After waiting a long time in line, she rejected my request at the get go. She stopped everything, raised her voice and blamed me for getting into the "wrong line". Flora REFUSED to offer ANY help and it was the security guard who helped me find the manager. She only began processing my refund when the manager arrived. HOWEVER, she only end up refunding me 33% of my total refund and DEMANDED that was a full refund when I double - checked with her. When I asked the manger, and he confronted her; Flora REFUSED to even LOOK at her mistake. The manager then explained everything and after a couple of denials, she FINALLY agrees to refund me the rest of my refund. During this entire interaction, Flora, the cashier, held her head high and had the WORST attitude possible. She was in denial, stubborn, arrogant, rude, lazy, and most of all disrespectful and cocky! SHE DID NOT APOLOGIZE TO A SINGLE TIME FOR HER MISTAKES AND BLAMED IT ALL ON A CUSTOMER!! For anyone who is planning to make a return at foods co, my advice is to just find the manager and ask them to do it. Worst customer service EVER!!!!! STOP hiring employees who cannot read or unable to understand how a coupon works. If you have coupons and want to use them, this is not the place to go. I came in here today to do some quick and minimal shopping. I go to pick up a 16 oz cottage cheese and found a coupon attached saying "Save 55¢ Now on ONE (1) KNUDSEN Cottage Cheese 16 oz." Great! I get my cottage cheese and a coupon to spend. So I bring my basket of 6 items and the cottage cheese to checkout. When the cashier comes across the cottage cheese and the coupon I let her know that the coupon came with the cottage cheese. She spends 2 minutes reading and looking at the coupon front and back, front and back again. Then she scans the coupon and tells me I have the wrong product. Oh my goodness. Do you know how to do your job? I have cashiered before and working at a grocery store as my first job at 16 yrs. old even I know that you have to scan the item FIRST, THEN apply the coupon. I explained to her again the coupon came with the item and there is no way this is the wrong coupon or product. No matter, she keeps scanning the coupon several more times to show me that the computer is not accepting the coupon. Before I can say another word, my fiancé steps in and says it doesn't matter and to move on. I was already fuming by this time. She quickly scans all the items and hands me the receipt and coupon. As I scan over the receipt I realized that I was correct and she really does not know how to do her job. SHE DIDN'T EVEN SCAN THE ITEM. No where on my receipt did I get charged for the cottage cheese. By this time, I was already in the car and my fiancé refused to go back to avoid any confrontation. I am in total disbelief with this woman. Not only does she not know how a coupon works, she can't read, and she is not trained on how to do her job. Don't come here thinking you're going to find Andronicos or Gus's. You're not going to find brie and overpriced crackers. But FoodsCo gets the job done. Staff is friendly enough. They have a good organic section. Shelves are well stocked and have all the basics. If you go for cooking Mexican, this place will have all the staples and a lot of authentic, packaged specialities from south-of-the-border. The checkout system is a bit weird, where you bag your own stuff. This ends up clogging the lines because there's always some crazy slow person who refused a bag and is trying to get tons of groceries in their arms. Just try to avoid peak hours as this place can be a mad house for short periods. With all that said, lines can be long, but other than that occasional clown who refuses a bag, it usually goes quickly. read more

this morning i walked in to do some shopping I was in the store for close to one hour when I come out somebody came out and said that I would just grab stuff and I started packing they were not paying attention or they assumed without asking embarrassed me in front of a lot of people because they thought that I was shoplifting I am 7 months pregnant and decided not to bag my items because I did not want to pay for plastic bags so I went back to look for boxes to pack my items when night come back to the entrance they stopped me check all my items like if I was shoplifting I had about 30 is something items that I had just finished packing and it took the security guard about 5 minutes to look through my things to make sure that everything that was in that cart was in my receipt I am very upset because I waited about 15 minutes for the manager and all he told me was that they do that all the time to everybody and I've seen people shoplift in that store and they never get called up on it and me as a regular customer get stopped the good thing I had my receipt and that was able to prove that I am not a choplifter I am so upset that I have decided not to come to the store anymore I used to come here two or three times a week to do a lot of shopping because this was one of the stores that had good prices items that I used regularly but with this incident makes me feel discriminated because most of the shoplifters that come here are African-American that I have seen and they never get stopped because the security guard is not in a post or because they are chit-chatting and having a wonderful conversation at the door without really doing what they are being paid for it's a shame that they're losing one customer over a situation like that maybe they should be able to address this situation a different way because if they have cameras all over the store they should be able to be looking at the people that our shopping and at the people that look suspicious for shoplifting I'm a mother of 4 and 1/2 kids and I would not do any shopping lifting even if my kids were starving read more

On Sunday, my mother-in-law bought fruit at Foodsco on William Street. When she paid, she was refused by a cashier named fen/fan. She was working at the time. My mother-in-law bought two kinds of fruits. But she refused to help my mother-in-law. She said she should go to the express line, but my mother-in-law said that there were customers online there, but she saw that there were no customers on fen's line and then went online. Later, other customers followed, and she directly helped other people. She also said that even if you wait for a day, I won't help you! Fen is a Chinese, and they communicated in Chinese at the time. Even Fen used awkward words to make trouble with my mother-in-law. Very vicious! I can't accept this! If she refuses to help her because she buys less, I think there is a problem with the management of the company. We live nearby and are normal customers. I know that the cashier fen has a problem! Because it is not the first time that she has treated customers like this. I think the residents nearby know that she often makes trouble with bad words! I also refused to help. I tried to find the manager for the theory on Monday, but the manager was just perfunctory. I need him to handle this matter. He just left after listening! He feels impatient! Oooh, this one's gonna be a fun one! Please keep reading. Foods Co isn't the type of grocery store you accidentally end up in. It's in the Bayview, so if you're not a local, you're probably scared to come here. I'll start off by describing a compilation of my Foods Co experiences. This will tell you nothing about Foods Co's quality or price (although I'll cover that later). A typical visit goes like this.... - I park and walk quickly towards the entrance, while avoiding eye contact with the guy selling bootleg DVDs, the young man selling bean pies, or the Don Magic Juan wanna-be. If I'm with my husband, someone usually tries to sell him their rap album. - Women: Make sure to wear a long coat or hoodie to cover your behind, or face being greeted by a barrage of "aye girl" or "daaayum" from the previously named entrepreneurs. - I walk in past the big Samoan security guard. KBLX or some variation of Deborah Cox's "How did you get here" is playing. - Lines are long because they don't have many checkers and you have to bag your own groceries. - I once saw a fist fight break out here between an employee and a group of girls. It was hard not to laugh. On to the important stuff... - Their prices are about 2/3 of what Safeway charges but their selection is limited. - Their milk tends to go bad within a couple of days of purchase. - Their produce selection is decent, but the quality is questionable. I prefer Mexican or Asian produce markets. - Meat selection is good and decently priced. - Their non-perishables (everything other than milk, meat and produce) are worth the trip if you're not picky about brands. - They have three RedBox DVD machines. - They (wisely) keep their liquor locked up in a cabinet near the registers. Bottom line: If you're not a Bayview/Portola local, go elsewhere. For for those of us in the area, it's one of the few grocery stores around. So if you're not picky about brands and are mostly concerned about saving money, Foods Co delivers that...along with an interesting shopping experience. read more

This is pretty much my grocery store of choice in my neighborhood ever since I ditched San Bruno Supermarket. They have a good selection of stuff, stay open late and best of all are super cheap. This is definitely the grocery store for you if you're on a budget. Sure they don't have an artisanal meat and cheese section like Whole Foods or like Safeway (kinda) have but my thinking is that if you're here, you can't afford that sorta stuff anyways. There is a reason this Foods Co is so cheap with their products, because they are old and not fresh. The vegetables are old, the fruits are old. Nothing here is really fresh. I bought a managers special fruit salad one day that still had 3 days till expiration, went home to eat it and the fruit was so acidic from it being, once again, OLD. I use to do a lot of shopping here, but to be quite honest I rather go to the SafeWay or Fresh and Easy by me and spend a little more in order not to deal with the crowd and old fruits and vegetables. Meats are the same thing, not as fresh and some of the other places. The people who shop here smell like booze and wreak of marijuana. Not my scene. read more

Dropped by on a weeknight after receiving one of their weekly ads in the mail. As others have noted, very affordable prices, especially on their wide selection of meats (very comparable to Costco, but in smaller packaging). In response to comments about their carrying only processed/HFCS items, if you dig around, there's a decent variety of healthier/lower calorie alternatives as well, for example, yummy sugar-free, 50% less fat Rocky Road ice cream, albeit tucked away way down in the corner of the freezer. Was a bit difficult to locate a shopping basket, despite dropping by on a Wednesday night, but made do with an empty Tide detergent cardboard box (oye memories of Costco). Plenty of spaces in the parking lot and pretty easy to locate (granted, GPS in hand). I'll undoubtedly be returning to Foods Co! read more

Always temping me with their single page advertisement in the mail, this place is always luring me in with their prices and cheap protein. Located near a questionable neighborhood, this place serves as a food oasis in an otherwise barren desert of grocery stores. One thing I'm always hopeful to find is their doughnuts on a Manager's Special which means half off on a dozen of doughnuts. Sadly, their gone before I can even reach the front door most of time. I'm always looking for cheap packages foods whenever friends come over and try drunk 'Epic Meal Time' shenanigans. They've got 5 quart party sized pails of ice cream for less than 6 bucks and sodas that you'd otherwise pay twice the price for. The downside of this location is the crazy amount of people in the parking lot either double parked for no reason or just selling stuff out if their car and taking up a space near the door. read more

I come here for cheap products that they have on sale. where else can you buy yoplait yogurts for 40 cents each or Colgate toothpaste for 1.29 when it's on sale? their weekly deals rock! It's sort of ghetto, but grocery is grocery. Of course, you have to be careful and check the expiration date, but I would do that at all supermarkets. It's near my house, so it's not too bad. Last time I made it there I kept it extra ghetto and picked up some Steel Reserve, and Shlitz Malt Liquor. I've seen a lot of supermarkets like this around Sacramento, and other places far to the east, but I had no idea there was one (actually 2) in the city. Way way cheaper than Safeway, or even the Pak n' Save that I visit in Emeryville sometimes. It's totally no-frills. They don't even unpack the boxes from the shipper-- they just cut open the front. The worst grocery store ever with possibly illegal practices. The produce scales never show the same weight as the checkout scales and always to the store's benefit. The manager said "it's allowed"(!) we'd like to see that law... Produce looks like it came from the trash other stores rejected yet prices are comparable. Selection is limited to what was on the rejects' list. Does it age on the shelf? No, the stuff brought back from storage looks the same. Frequent mistakes on the receipt - again, not in your favor - make sure you check it carefully, do your own calculation and keep the receipt. They have some decent prices on produce if you shop the sales, and generally their prices are lower the Safeway. The low point was checkout. Deals change almost weekly, so if you see something you like you need to bulk up!
