I mainly come her for the basic grocery items that this place is known for. I get my lard which Foods Co has plenty and other locations has maybe a dozen on a good day. I come here for the cheap coconut oils which other places want at least $10 for. I come her for their discounted deli items which I find every morning.

Cashier did not charge me for the cottage cheese and didn't know how to use the coupon. Terrible! I got a free item today.

Worst customer service EVER!!!!! STOP hiring employees who cannot read or unable to understand how a coupon works. If you have coupons and want to use them, this is not the place to go. I came in here today to do some quick and minimal shopping. I go to pick up a 16 oz cottage cheese and found a coupon attached saying "Save 55¢ Now on ONE (1) KNUDSEN Cottage Cheese 16 oz." Great! I get my cottage cheese and a coupon to spend. So I bring my basket of 6 items and the cottage cheese to checkout. When the cashier comes across the cottage cheese and the coupon I let her know that the coupon came with the cottage cheese. She spends 2 minutes reading and looking at the coupon front and back, front and back again. Then she scans the coupon and tells me I have the wrong product. Oh my goodness. Do you know how to do your job? I have cashiered before and working at a grocery store as my first job at 16 yrs. old even I know that you have to scan the item FIRST, THEN apply the coupon. I explained to her again the coupon came with the item and there is no way this is the wrong coupon or product. No matter, she keeps scanning the coupon several more times to show me that the computer is not accepting the coupon. Before I can say another word, my fiancé steps in and says it doesn't matter and to move on. I was already fuming by this time. She quickly scans all the items and hands me the receipt and coupon. As I scan over the receipt I realized that I was correct and she really does not know how to do her job. SHE DIDN'T EVEN SCAN THE ITEM. No where on my receipt did I get charged for the cottage cheese. By this time, I was already in the car and my fiancé refused to go back to avoid any confrontation. I am in total disbelief with this woman. Not only does she not know how a coupon works, she can't read, and she is not trained on how to do her job. Today I walked out the store without paying for an item, which is not my fault as I tried to point out her error. Tomorrow, you may end up walking out with a cart full of groceries. For coupon users, be careful! This is not a coupon friendly location and if you want your discount you will have to stand your ground and fight for it. Or end up like me, walking out the store and pass security with an unpaid item in your bag/cart.

I enjoy coming here for the reasons that I reside in the Bayview area so convenience is key, also the low-low prices they have.

I was pleasantly surprised when she wrote back right away, indicating that she had addressed this with her staff. She was gracious in accepting the feedback. In one incident over a year ago, another customer verbally harassed me and threatened physical harm while I was shopping. Her child was left unattended and was knocking items over, which I reported to security. The guard failed to do his job and did not intervene appropriately. When a supervisor arrived, the situation was handled much more professionally. I should feel safe shopping in my local market. That guard no longer works there, but the experience was upsetting and difficult to move past. Unfortunately, in January 2026, I encountered similar issues with a new security guard. He has repeatedly followed me around the store without cause. Most recently, he approached me unnecessarily, stood uncomfortably close, and spoke to me in an intrusive manner while I was selecting items. His behavior showed poor training and a lack of respect for personal boundaries. These repeated experiences with security staff are negatively affecting the atmosphere at Woodlands. I am a respectful, regular customer and do not want to feel uncomfortable or monitored without cause when shopping. Proper security training and professionalism are essential for customer safety and trust.

In fact, you can snag some good deals on produce and cheese here if you're willing to try something new. Speaking of produce, it's always beautiful here. I don't think I've ever seen an unappetizing leaf, fruit, or vegetable. I discovered this place after parking in front of it for the nearby library branch on the same day I listened to KEXP for the first time. I was prepping for an upcoming weekend excursion, and while I usually buy my groceries in the South Bay, closer to where I'm headed, I decided to change things up and get (mostly) everything in one fell swoop. I believe I got a prepackaged side dish that was delicious. And some fruits and carrots for the road ahead and the weekend beyond. I've returned a couple of times, and the people who work here have always been kind and helpful. It's a busy little place. Spend even a few minutes here, and you'll hear neighborhood acquaintances having friendly conversations about whatever. I got some really good cheese the last time I was here, after returning a book to the library. Are you sensing a theme?

I have not visited Cortland Avenue for a number of years save an Elite event at United Dumplings during Covid. Coming on a Sunday morning, I saw a steady flow of people going in and out of this market with small bags. Great that this place has modernized substantially with the attractive counters for the take and go, deli, and meat sections.
