I eat here occasionally and it's always been amazing. I went for lunch today, the crab rangoons were great and the Maui tai drinks were amazing. The mahi mahi was overdone, not flaky as it should have been. The vibes and scenery will never get old, it's a beautiful spot with great views. I've often spotted harbor seals and pelicans while eating. My server was attentive, but not too much which was perfect. Parking is easy if you get here early, the lot is small so keep that in mind, and always make a reservation, especially if it's a weekend or holiday. I've been coming here for years! Started going with my grandma for lunches and now I get to enjoy a delightful dinner with my husband on our anniversaries. The service is always wonderful. We love the atmosphere and background music in the restaurant, makes us miss Hawaii. This last visit was for our anniversary and our waitress gave us a nice glass of sparkling to conclude our meal. Classic Tiki Bar/Restaurant close to the original location. Gorgeous waterfront location and classic decor. I had their local version of the lava flow , with smoked pineapple. Yummy. This retro location in Emeryville has been here for 90-yrs. I remember coming here in the '60's. My Mom kept the tiki glasses in her China cabinet. It is a fun location to come to with friends. It's a great social location. People come here and linger for hours at the window bar area. Today, I am by myself and the waitress gave me a table with a view but she told me not to linger. I came here to bring back memories from the '60's, 70's, and the '80's. The salmon tacos were good at $24-ish and the Margarita was terrific. The ambiance was inviting and love the whole venue. Tour around the whole building and we enjoyed it all. We're definelty returning. Food was so tasteful and our appetizer was yummy. The poke was served with taro chips and the fish was fresh and flavorful. Ribs, shrimp and beef was flavorful as well. The portions aren't too big but doesn't cut out that it's flavorful and tasty. Tiki pub crawl so I didn't get a chance to order food. Drunken Monkey 20/10: that was my first and last drink of the day. It's really strong so be careful. The hostess was very nice to let me use the restroom before opening, it was fully stocked and clean. Had to go to the bar to place my order. I believe this was only for the day. Over Price and Really poor quality of food! Went with friends out of town after football game on Saturday! I order the Asian fusion stir fry Beef with Broccoli ( Beef Pew Pake) - it's supposed to be short rib, but not a single piece in the plate was not over cooked, charcoaled, nothing was eatable! The dish was over sauced with black Mongolian sauce; I could not taste anything in the dish except this unpleasant sauce! They charge $42 for a plate I could easily get in a Chinese restaurant for 1/3 the price! Jasmin rice on the plate was brown probably cooked with soy sauce! Their famous cocktail was of poor quality because the spirit used for the cocktail is of cheap quality! Total dinner bill amounts to $125++ each person! My advise to everyone is "Don't go to this restaurant " , it's a trap, not worth it! BTW, the service was mediocre, our server recommended every single dish on the menu, when I ask the receptionist I learned that many guests complaint about the "Beef Kew Pake" being too dry before me ! We have never been to a Trader Vic's. Had to try it. Once you deal with their sign in process we had a great time. We showed up without reservations. So you need to stay there and wait for seating. Typically we give the hostess our phone number and they text us when it's ready allowing us a moment to wonder around and look at the sights. Or maybe a buzzer. Not here. You stand there. Moving on to food and drinks. That part was great. Our server was awesome. Must try it if you haven't already. read more

Made a reservation for 3 at 5pm on a Sunday. Checked in with the host and waited a few minutes before we were seated. Bar area was fairly busy but the back restaurant had some open tables. Would say a reservation is recommended if you want to do a sit down dinner experience or walk in and wait for a seat at the bar. I had lunch here today with my daughter to celebrate her birthday. I love this place, the ambience, being on the water, easy access, parking, usually not crowded, friendly service , and of course great food and drinks. Their cocktails are without a doubt very well executed, hard to imagine you would be disappointed in any of their choices, really great ! My husband and I decided to go with Trader Vic's to host our October wedding reception. We started talks with the restaurant back in April and had been working with the general manager to plan everything. Communication was ok throughout the entire experience, though it started to get really spotty the closer we got to the wedding. The general manager was getting married herself, which meant that we started working with the assistant manager and not the general manager during the last month or so of planning. While she was super nice, there were a number of really critical details that fell through the cracks, despite being laid out really clearly in our emails, in writing. - A few guests had food allergies. One has a severe shellfish allergy and we needed to be really careful about him not eating anything with shellfish in it. When it came time to make our final menu selections, I made it clear who had allergies and asked if our menu selections would be food safe for them or if we would need to make accommodations. The assistant manager said those with shellfish and gluten allergies would get a different starter than the one we'd selected, but that the other dishes didn't conflict with anyone else's allergies. During the reception, as my husband and I arrived, the assistant manager asked us again which of the guests had allergies. Masking frustration that she would be clarifying something pretty serious minutes before eating, I repeated who had allergies and what they were (I can't believe I remembered all of them). While food was being served, she let us know two of the entrees had gluten -- that's not what we were told a few days before, and it was too late to do anything for those with gluten allergies. - The contract originally had the dinner start time set for 6:30 pm; back in June, the general manager and I agreed to change it to 5:30 and to allow guests into the dining room starting at 5:00. That didn't get reflected in the contract, so dinner didn't wind up getting served until closer to 6:30. A server asked me as we were arriving if dinner was at 6:30 and I said no, that's an hour too late, and she made an ok hand signal and ran off, but dinner didn't arrive on time. - On the welcome table, they set up two picture frames with the seating arrangement typed out. Tables 2, 3, and 4 were all the same, so a ton of guests didn't know where to sit when they arrived. They'd also copied and pasted notes meant only for the assistant manager's reference, which made no sense to the guests and looked stupid printed out. - A number of guest's name cards had errors. A miss who was given the title of mrs., the best man's first name misspelled (whose name was spelled correctly on the seating arrangement on the welcome table), a family member with a misspelled first name. No excuse for not just copying and pasting names and titles from my email (which didn't contain any typos). - The speaker they let guests use for music was incredibly loud when we did a walkthrough of the room and filled the space with no issue, but with 60 guests it was barely audible. Part of that was on me for not realizing the sound wouldn't be as loud over the din of a crowd, but they definitely need to get a more powerful speaker or install a sound system. - They don't offer menu tastings despite the fact that most of the menu items for private dining aren't available to try on their regular menu. Luckily all of the food we chose was delicious, but the Thai coconut risotto was the weakest of the three sides, weakest dish overall, and was gummy. It tasted good, but the texture was really wrong; had we been able to taste it beforehand, I would've gone with a different side. - The assistant manager was less communicative and responsive than the general manager. Didn't reply to a number of emails or replied with emails that didn't address every question/comment. In the greater scheme of things, these are small potatoes compared to being in a room of all of your family and friends, celebrating the best day of your life. None of these things ruined the evening and we all had a fantastic time. All of the staff were very kind, but it's annoying putting things in writing, going over things repeatedly, and having so many errors crop up. This was a pricey banquet, so I expected things to be in order for the price we paid. The thing I found most inexcusable was that they were still confused about who had a food allergy and what the allergies were all the way up to serving food. Not ok. The bartender was on point and everyone LOVED their drinks, the room looked amazing with the restaurant's table settings and linens and our florist's flowers, and the view was fantastic. The deck was nice, too, to go out and look at the water while getting a drink from the outside bar. But if you're going to plan an event here, definitely make sure that the little details are in order before the day of the event. read more

A couple people recommended Trader Vic's, so I decided to check it out. When we got there, a camper van was firmly wedged under the front entry. The woman said she had wine in the van, but wanted to get inside to try out the Mai Tai! It felt like a tourist trap, but this was a legitimately great meal. We ordered drinks and appetizers. The drinks came out in some outlandishly fun cups, and the appetizers were all amazing. The fried shrimp had the nicest flavor to it. We ended up ordering apps and just calling that dinner. My friend told me about this place if not I would have never heard of it! It located right by the Emeryville Marina very low key, it a little hole in the wall very in the cuts! We had a bunch of small plates and cocktails of course - crab Rangoon, beef and chicken skewers, shrimp tempura, side of fried rice and broccoli and then full plates of jerk chicken and salmon. All was very tasty. The ambience e is fun. After we got our appetizers it took a while to order the rest of the meal and then get it because they oven cook the jerk chicken but more time for more cocktails. It's been years since I visited Trader Vic's. Came last week for a work lunch. They were able to accommodate a party of 12 without any issues. They are located right by the water. The parking lot is fairly small and I'm not sure if they still offer valet parking in the evenings. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the short rib aloha bowl which was good however could have used a little more sauce. My coworker ordered the falafel salad and it looked delicious.
