Came here for their weekly Wednesday trivia- parking is easier to come about around the Duboce Triangle neighborhood that this is in! This review will primarily be about the trivia experience. The inside is cutely themed with the rainforest invasion style they pull off. The trivia nights require one beverage to be purchased per person in the party- I was coming off of a nasty burn in my mouth, so I asked our server what the best nonalcoholic choice would be with no citrus and she suggested the Mocking Bird. I feel that I cannot pass judgment on the Mocking Bird as a beverage since I asked for such an altering modification to the drink itself, but it was just not good without the lime. It tasted too strongly like actual alcohol. I get why they would make a rule about having one drink per patron here for the sake of their business, but I'm personally not sure if it's worth it considering even their mocktails are upwards of $15 with tax and tip. The trivia itself is very fun. There's x amount of rounds and each round is 4 questions, and you can pick whether you want certain questions to be worth 7 points or 3 points if you're certain of the answer. This pushed our team up from 9th place to 8th place! If you also are just not sure of the answer at all, the funniest answer gets a free round of shots. The night we went, the option was milk punch. How have I not reviewed this place yet? Hands down one of my favorite bars in SF. The atmosphere is designed to be like a plane crash on an island/jungle. So there are actually airplane parts in the bar. For example, some of the seating is airplane seats. There are also thunder sounds that play in the bar. I love it. Drinks are always good here and never not had a good time here. It's fairly popular though so if you come late, potentially expect to wait, but it's worth it. Love it here! read more

We stopped by for drinks and really enjoyed the fun tiki bar vibes here! I tried the Permanent Midnight, a rum-based coffee cocktail with coconut, pandan and banana which turned out to be too sweet for me. It reminded me of an espresso martini and unfortunately was a bit one note as I didn't get any pandan or banana. I also got the Zombie Killer, another rum-based drink with coconut, pineapple and cinnamon which I enjoyed more. This one was more creamy and better balanced. Overall the drinks are pretty straightforward the ambiance is fun. This place is so cool! I came here with some friends to visit sf and it did not disappoint. We got drinks and chatted. The drinks were pretty small but delicious! We got grifters game, golden idol (add rum) and golden idol (na). Our server was knowledgeable as well. This place reminds me a lot of rainforest cafe, where the animals would come alive like every 15 min and a storm would come through every 30 min as they also had a bunch of sound and light effects regularly. It can be a lot if you aren't expecting it but definitely adds to the experience. I would definitely recommend to check this place out and I'll definitely be back! read more

Very cute bar. I would come back for a date night or to hang with friends. I especially like how there are different partitioned sections to sit in around the place for an intimate environment. Last Rites was a pretty dang fun time. The ambiance is pretty sweet, love the feeling of being inside a plane. It was also hella cool how the entire place lights up if you order the right drink, really fun. My only small gripe is comparing it to something like Smuggler's Cove, the prices are the same, but the drinks here are very much smaller and less complex. Our waitress, totally great, she was friendly, funny, and super attentive even though it was busy. We ended up smashing through 5 drinks shared between the 2 of us, and they were all very tasty, except the Emerald Eclipse... to be fair to the waitress that suggested it, and Last Rites itself, I DESPISE mezcal, and just didn't realize that's what was in it. We tried to order the Permanent Eclipse but it was not available at the time, so she recommended the Eclipse. Mezcal should be erased from the surface of the earth, and should not be mentioned in any history books. Make it go away. Walked away with some super cool Mai Tai glasses, and we were more than a little tipsy when we started our trek back to BART. I could see myself coming back here with some friends, but hopefully they get some more rum based concoctions on the menu! read more

This bar is themed like a plane crash in a remote jungle, and they don't half-ass it. The bar itself is styled like an open fuselage, the walls are convered with vegetation, and occasional sounds of thunder play through the speakers. The menus look like a cargo manifests, complete with bloodstains at the bottom, but were bit hard to read in the low lighting. The drinks were on the small side for a tiki bar, but good. We also tried the No Doctor on Board [4/5] meant for two. It has a very strong alcoholic taste. My only complaint about Last Rites is that the service is SOOO slow for a bar. The best way I can describe this Tiki bar is that it's like Rainforest Cafe for adults. Dark, fun, and mysterious vibes inside with plenty of nooks for friends or couples to hang out. The description says lychee but I couldn't really taste it. I could taste the alcohol -- Red Harvest -- I've never tried Bing Zhou and it wasn't bad! This is on the more bitter side with a bit of a fruit aftertaste. Nomming on the leaves also provided a fun and numbing experience for my tongue. There is a lot of ice in this drink. I've also tried the Grifter's Game previously and I can only remember that I liked it since it was more than a year ago In terms of service/wait time, I did wait outside in line for ~30 minutes both times. My second time here, it was much easier finding a table since the party was much smaller. They did bring water over to us, but the cups were a little suspiciously dirty so we got new ones. Last Rites was our last stop of the night and it was so much fun! We got right in late on a Saturday night. The vibe is super cool--jungle crash site meets tiki bar, with thunderstorm effects that really set the mood. We had an amazing waitress, she was super funny, attentive and she got our drinks to us very quickly, especially for how busy it was with several large parties. As for the drinks: they were beautiful and on-theme, though I felt they lacked some of the complex flavors you'd expect from a great tiki cocktail. I would say my favorite one of the night was the Zombie killer followed by the Kali Maa's Doom. Least favorite was the Emerald Eclipse, it was honestly difficult to finish. We didn't realize that it had Mezcal in it since it was suggested to us to try since they were out of what we wanted, but honestly for me Mezcal has no business in Tiki drinks so we didnt even think to check! One of the coolest parts of the night was the Caldera's Curse. Every time someone ordered it, the entire bar's atmosphere shifted--lights, sound effects, and the drink itself came out with a fiery show. Super fun and theatrical. Then two of her friends arrived and she let them in. Bouncer was really apologetic, at least. Two problems... First,if you say you close at 11:00 then customers should be let in until closing. What a cool cocktail bar! The occasional lightning flashes and thunder, Christmas bulbs strung through the jungle foliage, and crashed airplane decor created a fun atmosphere. My party of six walked in without a wait at 11:30 pm on a Friday night, and we managed to snag a booth as another group was leaving. Otherwise, there were a couple spaces open for smaller parties and standing room. Table service worked out well since it wasn't too crowded. I like that the online version of the menu had pictures for all the pretty drinks. The drinks took a little while to come out, but mine was memorable and definitely worth the wait. My Violet Vixen was fantastic and tasted more floral from the lavender than fruity from the lychee. As a frozen/ice blended drink, the ice consistency was perfect and not too chunky or icy. The Lion's Paw with honeycomb garnish and Kali Maa's Doom were also tasty although the torched marshmallow and watermelon was an interesting garnish combination for the latter. The Permanent Midnight was too strong for me. For our group of six, the seating was self-service, and we luckily found a table that was coincidentally cleared within five minutes. I really enjoyed the tiki bar-style decorations and have not been to another bar in SF like this. Many of their drinks fit this theme, and the photos shown on the website are an accurate depiction of what was given to us. We all ordered drinks, and I ordered the Violet Vixen and Wonton Chips. The drink itself was aesthetic, with a nice rosy/lavender color and edible flowers on top. Hands down my favorite bar in SF. I've been here many times, and it has never disappointed. Timing is critical because the lines do get quite long but at least the inside never gets too full / stuffy. Once in, it usually takes a bit to get a seat but the vibe and drinks are all worth it! They always have fun themes going on -- I went for halloween and there was a missing persons type theme, which was spooky but fun. The decor is on point, which elements of both tiki and whatever other theme they're doing at the time. We got the "happy birthday" drink to share among a bunch of us and it came with candles!
