Today we played the silent lake disc golf course and it was a great time yet again…read more I hadn't been in a while so i really didn't know what to expect. i remember last time we had trouble finding the 6th tee box so this time we took a photo of the layout map so we had the course in our pocket. w We started at 830, which can be a busy time of day to tee off. Either it was an off day for the course or what, but we were able get rolling easily. It's a fairly open course. if you can really drive it you had alot of chances at birdie. I'm not strong but with the lack of obstacles i had a good chance at par on every hole. theres only a couple water holes(and I found the drink on both) but otherwise nothing too difficult. We will be coming back around again soon. I left too many extra strokes on the course. we can definitely do better next time.

One of the best "wide open" courses in south Florida…read more I was here again just the other weekend. A group of friends and I did the whole 18 holes. It was a perfect day, if not a little hot. But thats everyday these days in Florida. The course is well taken care of. It's a city park with plenty of other activities going on from cookouts to people jogging to playground stuff. As courses go its got a wide open layout. You can see the hole/basket from the tee box. With the wide open spaces its a very tough course to lose a disc(unless you throw it in the water). Which I did, on the 4th hole. They have 3 water holes and I found the water on one of them. The good news is it was a floating frisbee so I got it back 30 minutes later when it floated into shore. Plantation is definitely one of the better courses in south Florida. It's nice to be on one and feel like you won't lose a disc

To raise money for the project they had chicken and rib barbecues. These fundraisers were so popular with the community that they have turned into an annual celebration in Deerfield Beach called Founders Day. The Lions Cklub cleared the area for a park and added a baseball diamond, barbecue pit, and picnic area for the community to enjoy. Today the park also has a playground, 180 foot fishing dock, and six lighted tennis courts. The boat launch allows you to enter the Hillsboro Canal and out into the Atlantic Ocean. If you are looking to engage in team sports, water sports, or just need somewhere safe to take the kids to play, this park is your answer.

Parking is limited but suggest the Holiday Inn lot. During our walk, we saw a few cyclist pop out thru the tunnel that runs under Yamato Rd. Saw an iguana or two that scurried back into the canal that runs parallel to the path upon approach. A bike rack and picnic table are really the only ammenities on the trail and no bathrooms.

A well kept course, and fun to play…read more I hadn't played Markham before, but I've wanted to since I first saw it years ago while driving through Markham. I was there for a bike thing, but I made note it was there Last week I was to play with some friends and I said let's make the trek out west to Markham. It's always fun to try a new course. we got there at the early hour of 830. Plenty of people in line to get in, but most were for off-road biking. When we got to the course(far back right) there was only one more group starting off. After a couple warm ups we were were off. A couple water holes early but that was it for the agua. After that there were other tough holes in woods, but the back 9 was mostly open. The course had a nice layout, it never overlapped itself like I've seen a couple times lately. There were a few holes that gave a chance at a birdie for us amateurs which is always a plus. We all ended with decent scores, and the we could definitely do better on the next time. We will have to make it back soon to see if we can actually back that up.

Friendly disc golfers too. We left a disc at a hole and they put it on our car for us when we got back. Found a disc and texted the guy, but he had gone home to Illinois and said we could keep it. And you can't drive through the small park. Just walk. Dogs are allowed, but must be on a leash. It says "no climbing" on the bridge, but while we were there, we saw some kids fishing off the bridge. There are nice vibrant green grassy areas and tall trees for shade. We saw lots of birds on the grass while we there including a large group of white ones on the edge of the lake and in the lake. I hope the local residents take full advantage of this peaceful bit of greenery. I know I would, if I lived nearby.

It is considered a private park because…read moreit is owned and maintained by the Boca Del Mar HOA and they let you know it with multiple no trespassing signs. However no one bothered me while I was there and I was free to explore. The park is very beautiful with flowering trees set alongside a half mile long paved path that winds around a lake where there is a gazebo and benches. The trail also leads out to W Palmetto Road. The lake has a lot of ducks swimming around. I also saw iguanas and squirrels in the park. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit Parque Placido but this is a great amenity for the Boca Del Mar community to have as basically their backyard. It gives them a place to exercise, walk their dogs, and enjoy the outdoors.

Frank McDonough Park is named in honor of a man who served as a city commissioner and Mayor of…read moreLight House Point for 25 years. Frank McDonough moved from Chicago to Florida to escape his hay fever in 1954, two years before Light House Point even became a city. He served on the city commission from 1963 to 1968 and then was appointed mayor in 1968. He was re-elected until he resigned in 1984. In 1989 he was elected as mayor again and formerly retired in 1993 while still staying active in city affairs. In 1982 Lake Placid Park was renamed Frank McDonough Park in honor of his many years of service to the city. Frank McDonough passed away in 2001 at the age of 81. Frank McDonough Park started as a field that city recreation pioneer Dan Witt and some other fathers cleared so that children living in Light House point could have a recreation league of their own. Fifteen pallets of sod were donated so a football league could practice. Today, six acre Frank McDonough Park provides recreation to all ages in Lighthouse Point. The park has a baseball field, football/soccer field, sand volleyball court, 2 racquetball courts, 9 clay tennis courts which is home to the Lighthouse Point Tennis Center, a covered firefighter themed playground with two play area, one for tots, and one for older kids, and restrooms. Added to the park in 2020 is outdoor body-weight resistance workout equipment that includes a sit-up bench, chest press, pull-up bars, leg press, push-up station and more. This park is ideal for sports, play, and working out. The city has even staged concerts in the park in the past. Don't forget to stop by the Heroes Shrine located in the northwest corner of the park where you will find a memorial to those who serve in the military and first responders.

There are bathrooms near the tennis courts with more powerful fountains. The park has tennis courts, a basketball court, baseball field, and a general playing field. There is a parking lot nearby that shares space with a church and there might be more parking by the tennis courts. It is a great park with a lot of amenities.
