Tasty appetizers of Middle Eastern selections. Had salmon francaise for entree and it was cooked to perfection with a delicious lemon sauce. My companions had the steaks and they were raving about it. Our table shared all the dessert options and they were the perfect end to a great meal. Service was attentive. Limited parking spots in the lot right in front, otherwise street parking looked pretty scarce. Restaurant was almost empty when we went on a Thursday night but ambiance was cozy. read more

Impromptu lunch date and due to a little time crunch issue we couldn't go far from Queens and thus Hapisgah was recommended and was our choice! I like the iPad style menus they now offer and also loved that their menu, as diverse in cuisine as it was, didn't have a crazy amount of options to make your head spin. Clear winners were the tender baby chicken kabob, the super flavorful and juicy minced beef kabob and the addictive housemade hummus with sauteed onions and mushrooms generously seasoned with shawarma seasoning. The first time I dined here was a few years ago, with Mommy and Hubby. This time we came back for a family event. We dined outside. They ordered dipped eggplant for the table and then we ordered entrees from the menu. I had chicken legs with couscous and vegetable, Mommy had a chicken kebab, and Hubby had Angel hair pasta with chicken and mushroom. I liked my chicken better than a kebab. This is a prime example of looks are deceiving.... I live 2 blocks away from this restaurant and I would usually pass by and look at it like I'll never go there. From the outside it does not look inviting at all. However I ended up going there one night with a business partner. We ordered steak & fries which was like the priciest thing on the menu but when I tell you it was the best steak I've ever had. I went back a few weeks later with my daughter and we are love.... Came on a late weekday afternoon to celebrate a co-worker's retirement. Place was relatively empty since it was in between lunch and dinner, but I heard it gets super packed in the evening with lines going out the door, so you better make a reservation if you plan on going for dinner! Service- excellent! We were greeted right away as we entered and our server was on top of things. He refilled our waters quickly and was always nearby if we needed something. They also gave us some dessert since we were there for a special occasion and helped us take some great photos. Food- most of us ordered the lunch special for our entree, which is such a great deal! I got the $15 chicken marsala dish, which came with a choice of 1 side (white rice, yellow rice, rosemary potatoes, or string beans & carrots). The food was plentiful as I was able to save a portion for lunch the next day. The chicken was super tender and flavorful. The sauce was a bit watery/light, but I enjoyed the dish overall. For appetizers, we got a mix of their 5 salads. SO DELICIOUS. I highly recommend it. The baba ganoush is great! Their menu (all on an iPad) is quite diverse, with a little something for everyone. I went to Hapisgah to pick up take out. I was literally horrified. The managers are all running around maskless. The cooks behind the counter, literally breathing over all the multitude of salads they serve to their guests, maskless. Mask wearing is not enforced by its employees OR to its guests - many of whom were traipsing all around the restaurant maskless. It is literally a Petri dish and every night dining there, a potential super spreader. I felt like I walked into 2018. It's a shame. We'll never get the virus under control with establishments and mindsets like this and it just ruins it for the other restaurants trying to stay open and follow rules. SHAME SHAME SHAME. My first glatt kosher restaurant. Was out celebrating a birthday. Outdoor seating covered partially by a tent. All waiters were wearing masks but tables less than 6 feet apart and patrons were walking around without masks. The service was good but the food was OK. I had a soup that was decent as was the sesame chicken and shredded cabbage. Given that we're in a pandemic and I didn't feel like all the precautions were taken, I'd probably rate it 3.5 if that weren't the case. read more

I need to start off by saying i am not a fan of any Kosher restaurants in general. My daughter took me to Hapisgah for my birthday. My daughter is kosher and she knows I love steak. I found the service to be excellent and fast and friendly even know they were very crowded. Unfortunately for me you can not compare a place like Hapisgah to any traditional non Kosher steak house. The cuts and taste are different and I am not generally a fan. I had the house steak which I think was a New York rib eye?? and it was pretty good a bit fatty but good. I am more of a sirloin or porterhouse or filet mignon person all cuts which are not Kosher. The service was excellent and the food was better than expected considering it was Kosher. I really would not go back unless my daughter decided to take me there. As far as Kosher restaurants go it was excellent, But compared to other steak place non kosher of coarse it falls short. i give it 3 stars only because it was good and for kosher food i was happy. read more

The waitress we had was very sweet and that was the nicest thing I can say about this restaurant. We were a party of four, not demanding and the service was awful, through no fault of our server. One of the people in our party never got her main dish and we were waiting an hour and a half . Food was mediocre at best. There must be better kosher places in Queens. We came from Manhattan and our friends came from Lawrence, so we were meeting half way. Last Saturday my partner and I decided to have some steaks. We heard about this place a lot and decided to try it out. The parking space is super small, good thing they have valet service there. Interior was 7 out of 10/ a regular nothing special diner. The menu variety is decent, nothing crazy. Hostess wasn't the best one I've met: no smile, no welcome greeting, but whatever. Ordered New York and Rib eye steaks on the bone on sizzling plate and merlot They serve pickles , pita and cabbage salad as appetizer before food comes. Steaks arrived in a huge skillet with mushrooms and onions and smelled amazing. I have to say- it's very very good steak they serve. Definitely worth of trying it. We had a staff night out at Hapisgah. We were a table of 12 and had a wonderful overall experience. We ordered 8 appetizers and everyone ordered a main dish and there was tons of food leftover. Seriously, these portions are huge and the food is quite tasty too! The staff was friendly and helpful and service was prompt. The only downside was that there was a long wait for the ladies room. As far as the food goes I'd highly recommend the hummus with chicken, cigars, falafel, and chicken fingers from the appetizers. The Yemenite soup is a rich hearty soup with plenty of meat and potatoes. As far as the mains go the kebabs are all great and I love getting the pepper steak on a sizzling plate. I can't compare Hapisgah with other Kosher restaurants as this may've been my first. But, compared to other steakhouses, they fall short in taste and service. A and I wanted to try someplace new by his place and I was in the mood for steak so we came to Hapisgah after reading reviews on Yelp. The first thing I noticed was the sign that says they serve alcohol to patrons 25 and up. Interesting... The restaurant serves food from a plethora of different cultures - Italian, Chinese and they also have steak and sushi (albeit very limited in the Chinese and especially sushi selection). In my experience, anytime an establishment tries to do too much in variety, they end up falling flat in all aspects and I'm sorry to say Hapsigah didn't prove me wrong. We both ordered the steak medium rare and both received steaks cooked medium well. That has got to be the worst thing to happen when ordering steak, IMO. There was also no sear on the meat at all. I wouldn't even put the steak here in the same category as one you'd get from Applebee's or the like seeing as how the price is closer to that of a high end steakhouse. Perhaps I judge steak too harshly because I love it so much, but I've made steak myself better than Hapsigah's. The entrees come with a choice of a side. I ordered the green beans. Did it come from a can? It had the same coloring and consistency of one. A ordered the yellow rice, which was actually really good. If I were to come back (I wouldn't. But IF I were to...) I would probably just order a bowl of yellow rice; it was moist, flavorful and really well cooked. Service was okay though a bit absent. The food at hapisgah is very good. It's my favorite kosher steakhouse. That being said the service sucks. Everytime I come here it takes ages to get the waiters attention and they all seam overworked and uninterested. They are also very slow. It's unfortunate because I would give 5 stars if the service was better. My recommendation here is simple get the house steak I get the extra large medium rare. Also get the sizzling plate of mushrooms and onions. If you're looking for a soup get the kibbeh soup. I understand it a busy restaurant but for GD sake train your staff better and get ppl who are more enthusiastic and friendly. read more

The Birthday girl ordered baby lamb chops which looked delicious and was confirmed by the Birthday girl my wife ordered chicken lomein which was fantastic I ordered for myself salmon deluxe which was mouth watering delectable. First thing, Michelle the server was amazing, she was very attentive and gave us amazing service. We ordered stakes, I got the rib steak (well done) on top of beautifully caramelized mushrooms and onions which tasted amazing.. The sides were good, ordered yellow rice & rosemary potatoes. Let me explain the 1 Star First I'll tell you that this steakhouse has declined from what it used to be. Second The chefs/management/and wait staff has changed (for the worse) Third They do NOT know how to serve customers. General: Some of the food is good, the rest is mediocre and in no means would I consider this a "Steakhouse" They don't serve heart portions. For example we ordered 3 different dishes, baby chicken kabob and beef kabob. The chicken had flavor/the beef did not The aides on each plate were embarrassing. Rosemary potatoes were 3 half inch potato slices. Not even half a potato and they don't use big potatoes. Salad was just some chopped lettuce and tomatoes. No onions no dressing, I made them take it back, I'm not paying $19 for 4 dollars worth of food. I counted EXACTLY 13 French fries, the reason I counted is because I could see the plate right thru the fries. The best thing we had all night was the hummus which is phenomenal and that's about it. The dessert was as cheap and low end as you can imagine. I've had large ice cream and it does NOT taste like that. Was a big ball of white frozen water. The waiter was "ok" he never acknowledged any of our orders or gave us confirmation that he heard anything we asked for or said. Yet he brought it all. The crowd are extremely demanding religious ashkenz type Jews which the wait staff can be heard speaking to with frustration so I get their attitude but don't give it to me if your fed up with the table to my left. I would go their (if ever again) strictly for water refills and hummus. Everything else can be made at home for much better. Hapisgah used to be a place to go for a great Kosher Israeli food. Last night was quite a disappointment. The waiter was terrible, he could not answer any questions either about the wine or the food. Ok, fine, must be new, we thought. The food came, without any sauces or/and condiments. Again, the waiter had no idea what else should be brought out. Fine, still new guy, we thought. Time for the check. The waiter is no where to be found. We asked someone else for the check. Check comes in - double as expected. Why? Because he not only charged us for a glass of wine, but also added a bottle of wine to the check. Again, looking for him to take care of it. After a while he shows up and just drops the updated check on the table, not a word about mishap. Check looks fine, but there is no pen to sign it with. Waiter is gone again. After yet another 10 min we are looking for a manager to speak to. Manager comes in, we explain the situation and his reaction is "well, it's not my fault, I was not aware of any of this". There is no understanding that it's his restaurant and his staff. He produces a pen so we can just pay for the food. Shall I say no tip was added to the check? While food is still good (no longer great), the concept of customer service does not exist at that place anymore. read more

Other than the cramped parking situation, I'm going to recommend this place. The customer service is above average, and the food for the most part is above average (for an Israeli place, the food is still above average, and the customer service is out of the world). This place is very conducive to bringing a large group. Reasonable prices, and many positive overall experiences. It's EXTREMELY important to realize that even when making a reservation, you're gonna have to wait --sometimes up to 30min standing in the cramped hallway. Also, avoid their combination platter (appetizer) for $13 ... a prime example of highway robbery: maybe 3 spoonfuls of each appetizer (total 15 spoonfuls). Thinking about it now, I would recommend avoiding MANY dishes, mainly due to RIPOFF pricing!! $10 for the "fruit platter" that consists of 5 kiwis, a slice of pineapple, and a dribble of red sauce is a real disgrace!! Tiramisu for $9 isn't nearly as bad, but it's still a ripoff considering that it's perfectly average tiramisu. I must say that their beef kebab (not ground) is an excellent dish-- not only very well balanced, but a relatively light meal. In my reviews I often pay tribute to Mark, a very well known chef in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. Anyone who has tried his cooking, writes dazzling reviews, that not only compliment his elite skills in the kitchen, but also discuss his exquisite and rare herbal combinations that ultimately produce a dish so far out of this world. Anyways, I came here for Mark's birthday (due to the later hours), and decided to order him something that he wouldn't call a disappointment: the extra large 22oz house steak (rare). Because of his status, many wanted to observe his reaction to this particular dish. Mark loved it, and called it the best steak that he's ever had ,,, quite a statement !!!! The waiters were relieved to hear that Mark enjoyed it. I was eager to try the tuna tartar from here, but unfortunately they lather spicy mayonnaise on top!!! Unacceptable!!! We happened to have a very fine waiter that evening, so without any hassle, he returned one of the tuna tartars that we ordered. Mark thought it was OK. On a side note, I always recommend the schnitzel from this place --they do a very good job with it. Although it's not the waiter's fault, when dealing with a party of 4+, they should have the option to just leave the water on the table. I can't describe how inefficient it is, for them to refill each glass, and not leave one of the metal water pitchers on the table. It seems to me that they're pretty attached to those metal pitchers ,,, Note: The first time I came here, I accidentally tipped less than the "standard" (simple calculator error). The steaks are good. Not great, but if all you can have is a kosher steak, it's not bad. The sides are pretty horrible. Fries look like they've been under a heat lamp for half an hour. Rosemary potatoes are tiny. Salads look like they came out of a bag. The service is bad. Servers look bored and pissed off. They screwed up the order several times. In general, the place has a cheap feel to it. They have no competition in the area, and no incentive to improve. What's not cheap is the bill. read more
