My 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan with just under 60,000 miles on it dropped into "limp" mode driving up the Fairholme hill on my way home to Forks. I had to drive it home in 2nd gear. When I started it the next day, it no longer went into limp mode. I crossed my fingers, hoping it had "fixed itself," but a few days later it happened again. I called Tranco and talked to Mitch. He explained that "limp" mode can be caused by many things, but gave me a few things to look for. He also explained how to check the transmission fluid level, since the van doesn't come provided with a dipstick. He suggested that I take the van to a local garage so that they could put it on a scanner to make sure that the problem was transmission-related. I took his advice. The problem was transmission related, but it wasn't always there. It would drive fine one day, then go to "limp" mode the next. I called back to Tranco and talked to Brian. He explained that it's difficult to diagnose an intermittent problem. I explained that I couldn't trust driving the van anymore. He checked for technical service bulletins. He saw that there was an available control module update, but the Dodge dealer would have to do it. When I told him how far away I lived, and asked if he could help me get it fixed, he agreed to let me leave the van long enough for them to drive it enough to diagnose and repair it. So I dropped it off for a couple of weeks. He made the appointment at the dealer and got the update done. The module update added diagnostic capability. That, combined with driving the van like it was his own when he had a reason to go somewhere, enabled him to diagnose the problem with confidence. One of the clutches in the transmission was sloppy -- basically worn out. Brian clearly explained how he'd come to the conclusions that he had, and clearly described what they would do to make sure that the problem was properly fixed. My background includes having run my own garage for 26 years, and having been an ASE-certified master mechanic. Everything Brian said to me made sense. I told him to go ahead and rebuild the transmission. The price was reasonable, especially considering the good service they had already provided to me. We got the van back three months ago. I'm pleased to say that the transmission performs astoundingly well. It's better now that it was when we bought it. The shift points are so smooth that they're barely detectable. It drives like a different vehicle. I've fixed and replaced a lot of Dodge van transmissions in my life, but none of them drove as well as the one that Tranco built for me. I had my Chevy Tahoe taken to Tranco because my transmission ate itself up. After they replaced my transmission, I didn't even make it home (3 miles away) before one of the cooling lines came off due to a broken locking clip and lost transmission fluid all over the road. I had it towed back (which my warrantee was supposed to cover but wasn't) and was charged around $300 to have it fixed. That should have been taken care of no charge as their technician should have noticed the clip was broken and replaced the it before it was out of the building. A couple days later I contacted them because my speedometer was way off. I was told it was because of my tires being the wrong size. I told him that I had the stock tires on it. He continued to tell me the tires were wrong and he refused to look at the information on the door about the tire size to verify. Here we are almost a year later and still not fixed. I was yelled and cussed at this morning and told my car has a sporatic missfire in one of the spark plugs (nothing to do with the speed being off) and refused to admit that it was an issue. I left and on my way to work, I drove by the radar on 5th street and had to do almost 35 miles an hour on my speedometer to actually drive 25 according to radar. Two weeks ago I went out to the Forks area with two vehicles. My Tahoe and my BMW. My wife drove 60 miles an hour set my cruise control and my speedometer showed 75. No wonder people have been getting mad at me for driving slow. Before replacing the transmission, the speedometer showed 25 miles an hour and matched the radar. After replacing the transmission, the speedometer is way off. First I was told it was my tires, then today I was told it is because of my speedometer. All from replacing a transmission. Hmmm Something is wrong here. This place I will never recommend to anyone and will discourage any that are thinking of using them. read more

Just picked our truck up today after having the transmission rebuilt. It was an older truck and they had some issues with studs breaking off on the exhaust manifold, but only charged an extra hour of shop time for what could easily take several hours. The transmission shift handle in my 2009 Tuscon would not budge after operating fine the day before. I had the car towed to a local auto clinic. They inspected it (?) and advised the transmission probably needed to be rebuilt which they don't do. I drove over to Tranco in Port Angeles to discuss my options and if they could look at the car. Brian said the problem might be a broken shift linkage external to the transmission. I made an appointment and had the car towed to their shop. The mechanics found the shift shaft had some corrosion. They removed the shift linkage and lubed the shift shaft. During a test drive Brian noticed a slight whining noise coming from the engine compartment. He took the time to trace it to the alternator and said it should be checked out. Could not have been more satisfied with the service I received at Tranco. Knowledgeable, honest, thorough and friendly. I appreciate Brain going the extra mile to isolate a potential problem with alternator. They also noted the transmission fluid was down a quart even though being recently serviced. The invoice was very fair, about the same as an auto clinic charged for just an inspection. My transmission has been slipping and I was dreading taking it in because transmission work is always so expensive, and I'm leaving for vacation in a week. I stopped by out of the blue, and the guys did a quick fluid and leak check that determined that i was not going to explode and set me up for a proper appointment a few days later sending me away at NO CHARGE. Today the guys got me in and out for under $100 and they even replaced my burnt out brake light for me! The guys were very friendly, hard working, and funny. Prices were up front and honest. I am extremely obsessive about working on my vehicles, I do all of my own work, nobody touches my vehicles, with one exception: Automatic transmissions. I will not mess with the inside of an automatic tranny. Back when I lived in Port Angeles I took an E4OD in and had them work on it, they did such a great job, that they became my transmission shop for as long as they are in business, which judging by their work and customer service, will be a long time. Well now I live in Marysville, so quite a ways away, and needed my 4L60E rebuilt, so I contacted Rick at Tranco Transmissions and let him know the symptoms that my tranny was having, he said that my issues were very common with this particular tranny and that they would be able to get it completely rebuilt within a few days. My wife dropped the tranny off Monday morning, and I received a call from Rick Wednesday at around 4:00 PM saying that my tranny was done and ready to be picked up, which was surprisingly fast. He knew that I lived a couple of hours away, so he even offered to come in on a Saturday and meet me so that I could pick up my transmission, talk about friendly customer service! When we met, he went over all that they had done to my transmission, and since I have quite a few vehicles, I asked him a few questions about other transmissions that I have, Rick really knows his stuff when it comes to transmissions! He gave me some suggestions on each different type of transmission, what to do to prolong it's life, he is truly a stand up guy, and is nothing but forthcoming and honest, which I appreciate. Their prices were very fair as well. If you are like me and very skeptical of any and all repair shops, believe me, Tranco will treat you right, and charge you a fair price, and if it helps you sleep any better, I know the head mechanic for the City of Port Angeles, and the city has all of their tranny work done at Tranco, enough said. read more

There are people out there that still care and these guys are one of them. Trans broke with no forward gears far from home on vacation pulling a huge fifth wheel, what a nightmare except I found these guys on the web with over the top reviews. I have extensive technical back ground and I'll telling you these guys know transmissions. They received the truck at 1pm on Friday, by mid afternoon they pulled the trans, gutted it and ordered parts. By Monday morning Ron had the trans back together and they installed in by Monday afternoon. Totally amazing efficiency!!! Who would know that in Port Angles I would find a shop that knows how to build up and beef up my Ford truck transmission. Based upon the modifications made I will never need another thing done with this transmission to pull my 12000 lb trailer. I'm total amazed on the service provide. I total recommend Tranco for your transmission needs and if you need your transmission built up to handle heavier loads these guys know their stuff. 5 star +++++. Rick and Brian saved me $4000! I highly recommend these two men, they are honest and highly knowledgable about transmissions. We took our jeep to two other shops and were told, by the codes being thrown, that we needed a "new" transmission. In both cases we did not feel like we were getting an honest answer. When we saw the codes we did not see anything that suggested a new transmission. In fact our jeep has 75,000 miles and one of the places wanted to sell us a transmission with 45,000 miles on it. We happen to drive by Tranco and went in to talk with Rick and Brian...Right there they checked out the codes and looked over other shops paperwork, one shop even had our jeep as a manual transmission. They are busy and rightly so, honest places usually are. But we were able to leave our jeep and let them fit it in and work on it when they could. A few days later they called and told us that the main reason for the codes was it needed fluid! They easily could have told us we needed a new transmission, we had been told that already twice. But they told us they could not honestly do that. We will never take our vehicles to another shop, nor will I recommend any other shop.
