I absolutely love this salon and the service I've received over the last year. Stephanie currently colors and highlights my hair, and as a blonde this is not a small process. I have received more compliments in the last year than I have in my whole life about how great it looks. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and always met with kindness. I will say, however, if you are not religious, be prepared before you come in as this is a more Christian based salon. I don't think that they shove it down anyone's throat, but definitely be aware before I love that they have prayer request cards in the bathrooms, in case you want someone to just say a little prayer for you. Let me start by saying Tabitha, my stylist, is top notch! Let me finish by saying...unbeknownst to me this salon has decided to add a $5.00 service charge, payable to the "house" for hair services. I called to inquire about the charge and was told rather than raise their prices the owner opted to charge clients this add on fee. I saw no notice anywhere and was unhappily surprised to see when I got home and looked at the receipt that I had been charged this fee. read more

This makes me genuinely sad to write, but I must recommend avoiding Tranquility for salon services. $400 (product and tip included) later and after I returned home, I saw this. This picture was taken the morning after my appointment. Not days...not weeks...less than 24 hours. I have spent the last six weeks covering up my hair to the best of my ability just waiting for it to grow out enough to get it fixed. Very disappointing and sad to have this happen. I've been coming here for a couple years to get highlights and fashion color (pink) from Rachel. I love the classy touches like having wine and cheese, or getting a scalp massage. Most importantly, I always love my cuts and color! Rachel is a top knotch professional who listens and delivers. She's also realistic about color limitations and damage, so you're in good hands to experiment and try something bold. I get tons of compliments on my hair and happily give her the credit. I took my twin daughters to Tranquility today for their 13th birthday. The spa staff went above and beyond to make them feel special and pampered--Renee and Jane and Leslie were absolutely fabulous--professional and caring and kind. Leslie taught my girls how to properly care for their skin, Jane spent a very long time making a very complicated birthday manicure "just right," and Renee made sure the girls were warm, comfortable, and relaxed throughout their experience. It was heavenly, and my girls will never forget it. I had a great haircut, too! Despite being immune compromised, I felt very safe at the facility due to their careful attention to cleanliness and health. We highly recommend! read more

What a fun treat! I am usually very low maintenance, getting a mani-pedi maybe twice a year max. Therefore, I was so lucky to discover Tranquility Day Spa & Salon. Not only was every single employee incredibly kind, but they were so supportive and receptive to my questions and feedback. Renee was so nice and helped me find the perfect color for my nails; Jeanette was absolutely lovely and gave a great calf massage; and Holly was a delight, giving my hair the attention it desperately needed. Went just for eyebrows and won't be back again. This spa was just so-so. I went for eyebrows and they have two prices and to get your eyebrows arched costs more. I have never heard of this in my life. I had just had a baby and was looking for a little pampering. Well, I paid too much for the cruddy job the girl did. My eyebrows didn't even have an arch and just looked like crap. You could barely tell I had them done. Another thing that really annoyed me was them practally begging for you to come back. They pushed a survey on me, called me, asked me like 2-3 times to schedule a return visit. For all that, when I was ready to check out the ladies at the front desk were busy chit-chatting with another customer (there were 2 employees present) and it took them a few minutes to finally decide to shut up and check me out (and push the survey again and try and have me schedule the return appointment). I have been getting my eyebrows done for years now and was not impressed with Tranquility. Way too high of prices for Manassas. I really miss my girl in San Diego who threadded my eyebrows, that was the way to go! read more

If I am just rating my hairstylist - FOUR STARS. I LOVE KRYSTAL! Since moving to VA in 2007, I had yet to find someone who can give me a cute bob hair cut. Finally - I found someone and it was a total fluke. She did such a great job and it grew out just beautifully. If I am rating the reception area - TWO STARS. Not friendly. Seriously - is it just me? Aren't the reception people suppose to ask me if I needed anything to drink? Shouldn't they make me a cup of coffee? or a cup of water? The salons I've gone to normally do that for me - but not this place. I have only been there twice and I have walked in when women are already seated with their drinks. However, when I return and I witness someone being served by reception - I will make a scene. It drives me crazy when I am treated differently than other similarly situated people. I've been here a couple of times to have my hair blow dried and it was a disaster! I agree with everyone as far as their salon side. It leaves a lot to be desired. Seems like they're only used to dealing with one type of hair and are not very versatile. I don't usually have a positive experience with their front staff either, they're not very welcoming and just go through the motions. I suppose I do not look like I should be a patron there. The Salon part of Tranuility Okay. I know what you're all thinking. Aren't I the same lady who gave that same spa 5 starts like several months ago? You're right! But I was rating the SPA part of this spa, which is absolutely wonderful. Now the SALON part of the spa is a completely different deal. First of all, it's really crowded and noisy, which is not the worst part unless you're there for something like foil highlights and spend a considerable time in the madhouse. The worst part now is how jammed they are in terms of appointments. I know, their business is going great, and I should be happy for them, and I am but... out of the 4 times I've been there (having scheduled an appointment beforehand) 2 times I had to wait 20 minutes, and one other time 40 minutes to be seen by a stylist. Even when my stylist was the owner! The only time I was 10 minutes late (and actually called on my way there to let them know), when I arrived I was told that they cannot honor my appointment now. Even though I spent 10 more minutes after I arrived waiting for the stylist to come out to me. All of the appointments with no exceptions felt rushed, and I spent lots of time in-between applications and styling in the waiting room with other women who seemed just as stressed out about the wait was I was. Now about the value. It is absolutely overpriced. Only one time out of the four I got what I actually asked for, and it was just a set of highlights that would look more or less natural. My last visit there resulted in hair damaged so badly that it took me many expensive treatments to restore it at least partially. They also accidentally dripped hair glaze on my neck and I had a rash and redness for 2 weeks. Wanna know how much it cost me to have my highlights done, and the glaze applied afterwards? How about $360? Sounds reasonable, anyone?! I was astonished when the receptionist told me what I owed. Especially considering I asked on the phone to give me an estimate, which was $169. I know, it was just an estimate, right, but having to pay $200 more in the end? I found the customer service and the quality of the salon part of the Tranquility spa absolutely outrageous, and will only be back if I'm paid to. A lot. read more

I have been going to Tranquility for about a year now for cuts and color, and I have never had a more positive experience at a salon. Prior to going into this salon, I had lost faith in stylists after a number of bad haircuts and color jobs from multiple salons (both upscale and the less pricey mall salons). I actually started coloring my hair myself with those DIY box color kits, so I had quite a mess to try to correct when I made my initial apt. The stylist was clean, professional, polite, and up front about everything including the charges to make sure I'd be OK with the plan and the price. Several months later, my hair looks the best it ever has, and I get complements several times a week. Bottom line, I've got difficult hair and somehow, my stylist manages to make it look great for weeks. This is a feat that hasn't been successfully done in many years, so my hat is off to my stylist. She clearly knows what she's doing. I've never waited more than 15 minutes to start my appointment, and they're very generous in putting out beverages and snacks (including delicious cupcakes from the bakery down stairs) for anyone waiting. I will agree that on one occasion, my stylist was busy with another client and my blow out was finished by the assistant, but I believe this happened because they were trying to accommodate another client who came in with some major hair issues that needed immediate attention. It worked out fine, and my hair still looked great. They also don't pressure me to buy expensive products, and I really appreciate that. I'm not one who enjoys paying major $$ for extra expensive frills and fancy at a salon, but tranquility manages to keep an upscale appearance and environment without going over the line into pretentiousness. All-comers are welcome. I've had no experience with their mani/pedi or massage services, so I can't comment on those. As a small aside, this salon also seems to do a lot to give back in the community, and I really appreciate that about them as well. I agree with the review stating that it's inconvenient not to put tips on the credit card when paying, but I just charge the price then write a check for the tip. Whether it's in person or over the phone, they have always taken their role in customer service seriously in ensuring that my needs have been met by them. As far as who I see on a regular basis, Jessica is such a delight. Considering that I am getting such an intimate/private service done, I have felt at ease with her since day one. She's easy to talk to regarding what my expectations are and a great listener because she follows through. My appointments have always been on time and I've never had a bad experience with her. I hate having to write this review because I love my stylist (Tori) as a person but she did not do what I wanted with my hair. I came in asking for an icy (almost white) balayage and while what I walked out with looks okay, it is nothing what I wanted and was not like the picture shown. There was no indication by the stylist that my hair wouldn't turn out similarly to the picture, I wish I would not have paid to get my hair done if it was going to look almost the same as when I walked in. I was in the chair for almost 4 hours and while I did get good service, the outcome isn't remotely close to the look I wanted. read more

I will NEVER go back. They ruined my hair. The colorist told me she was going to add some spice to my hair... I have red hair so I was thinking darker red highlights, no...... she gave me dark purple highlights! When she tried to correct her mistake, she dyed my hair brown! Then told me she thought my hair looked better brown. It has taken another salon a year to correct the mess she made of my hair.... On a happier note, I found a great colorist/stylist... I frequented this business around Christmas time and again for Mother's day, each time to buy a gift package. My experiences both times were not good. The salesperson was very impersonal, never looked me in the eye, and was not helpful at all in terms of helping me to understand gift card offerings, options and prices. It seems more than odd and more than coincidental that I left there on two occasions, six months apart, with the same feeling that customer service at this establishment is poor. I've been here for a pedicure and a haircut. Both were OK. The pedicure was kind of a group project. I was in a small room with two other customers and two pedicurists. Everyone was very nice and friendly, but it wasn't a relaxing experience. The haircut was fine. The stylist was really nice, but I didn't really like my haircut when it was done. One big drawback for me was that you cannot tip on a credit card. I never carry cash, so that was an unpleasant surprise. For the price, I'm not in a big hurry to go back. read more

I am shocked to see the not so great reviews for Tranquility. I adore this place. I have been going for about 10 years, have followed them through their move and couldn't be happier. My hair ALWAYS looks phenomenal when I leave, no joke. My hair dresser LISTENS to what I am looking for, offers suggestions when I ask, and never cuts off more hair than requested, which has always been a huge pet peeve of mine.
