Strange to think I am reviewing a nursing home, but here it goes. I have never been to a nursing…read morehome that wasn't depressing. They are pretty much all sad just by the nature of what they are and who is housed there. When one does go to visit, one looks for things like cleanliness and what not, but mostly to see that those living in the facility are being treated with the dignity and respect due to a human being who has weathered the storm of Life long enough to find themselves at a resting point where this rest is only possible with the assistance of others. I found this place to be a place where this dignity and kindness it quite present. Granted it was my first time here, I noticed what I tend to see lacking in many other homes of this nature and that is respect. I will admit that it does look slightly dated, but not enough to raise a fuss over, and given the age of most of the patients there, it probably looks relatively modern lol. Understand that it takes a special type of person to work in these places.. The clients here (and in many other facilities across the nation) are fragile, hanging by a thread and off times not still in possession of the same energy or mind that propelled them this far into their existence which often leads to some very dramatic and potentially chaotic situations. I was amazed by the staff here. I am 40 and never stopped to notice the finesse and professionalism that it takes for the nurses and caretakers to do who they do, what many of us wish we provide but usually cannot for a multitude of reasons namely lack of training and logistics. I am very grateful to know that my relative is in the hands of good people who want to help. At one point before we left, my relative was in need of being moved and another orderly was needed. No one could be found and I asked one of the young men there who had already clocked out and finished with his work, backpack on and heading out the door if he could assist and he didn't bat an eyelash as he set his pack down and helped and assisted... for the next 45min. That moved me. He didn't have to help. He could've pointed at the desk and said "they can help you", but he didn't, and that speaks more than I can put into words.

Hopefully you don't have an interaction with Mary because she's mad every day no matter what you say to Her a smile with crack her face. Never consider this facility for your loved ones. We were…read morelooking for an assisted living facility for my mother-in-law. The top one on our list was The Fountains. On our tour, we were charmed. The facility is clean, well designed, and beautiful. My mother-in-law liked the facility, and we did too. At her ability assessment it was determined that she would need transportation to and from the dining room and assistance at shower time. It would cost extra for this help. The staff were unreliable, unprofessional, and disrespectful. Many times, my mother-in-law would wait in her room to be brought to the dining room. She would have to press her button to summon help and then wait for someone to come for her. At other times after a meal she would be left in the dining room alone for up to one hour! She would press the button to summon help, but no one would come. One aide told her that they were busy helping other people take showers. When a resident presses their button, it does not indicate what type of aid the person needs. She could have had an emergency but responding quickly wasn't important to them. On another occasion, while showering my mother-in-law dropped her bath brush and asked the aide to hand it to her. The aide told her that she (my mother-in-law) could get it herself. These are not isolated events, they are repetitive. My husband and I would speak with staff about our concerns each time an incident happened. We were assured that they would investigate and rectify the situation. We asked to talk with the director and each time she was either too busy or not on site. Staff said they would schedule an appointment with her and notify us of the time and date. We are still waiting for that appointment. I sent a letter expressing our concern to the upper management at Navion, the Fountains parent company. I included my email address and telephone number. I haven't heard anything from them. When sending the letter of notification that we are moving my mother-in-law, I found that my emails are blocked from their email server but my husband's email to the same address with the same attachment did go through. One of the selling points of the Fountains is their community events involving residents' families. We never received any form of communication for any events. We checked several times verifying our contact information and were assured that they did have it. At the family and resident Thanksgiving dinner, my mother-in-law sat alone in tears. She did not know about the event and we had not been invited. We asked the office to contact us with information about the Christmas family dinner. They did not and of course we were not invited. We live 25 minutes away so distance is not a problem. The final event that caused us to leave the Fountains started with a lie. My mother-in-law was in her room walking over to her closet when she lost her balance and fell. An aide was making her bed beside her at the time of her fall. My mother-in-law immediately called us to tell us about her fall. We heard the aide in the background and had her put the phone on speaker. We asked the aide where they would be taking her for an Xray and evaluation. A few minutes later, my husband received a call from the Fountains notifying him that his mother had fallen. The nurse told my husband that it was certainly lucky that an aide had happened to be going to my mother-in-law's room shortly after she fell. My husband attempted to correct her and was told that he was wrong. We know better. My husband went to the hospital to be with his mother. When it was determined that she had broken her hip, he called the Fountains to inform them. To date, 17 days have passed since her accident and no one from the Fountains has contacted her or us to find out how she is doing or when she might return. After paying extra for additional help and care, occasionally it was provided. As her family, we were engaged and involved but our repeated requests for meetings were never followed up on. The caring environment we had hoped to find for her wasn't at The Fountains. She won't be returning.
