Tran's Auto Repair made its way onto my radar due to all of its great reviews, which I can attest are quite true -- I can't imagine finding a better auto repair shop in the area (without sacrificing quality and professionalism). I admittedly ended up only swinging by for a general check-up on my car after driving myself across the state. They were clear about how long it was going to take them to get to my car (that I brought by without an appointment), and they actually got around to completing the task before the estimated time. They were really thorough with identifying issues, and rather than try to sell themselves, they preemptively asserted that I could take my car elsewhere if I felt more comfortable with that; they still wanted to show me exactly what/where the issue was so that I could share that with whomever I would ultimately decide to do business with. I really appreciated how genuine and honest they were without making me feel guilted into having them work on my car. I'm not going to sugarcoat that the quote was a bit steep, but I trust that they were going to be the most diligent and detail-oriented people for the job. Almost never leave reviews, but for a uniquely honest auto shop (rare these days)--I try to make the time. Went in for an oil change at the local Honda dealership and they recommended I change the steering rack on my car. The estimate was $4k+. Called several different shops to get quotes. Saw Tran's Auto Repair and read through some reviews and thought I'd give it a shot. Not only did Sy take his time to check on an estimate for me--which was very reasonable for the work required to replace a steering rack--he also suggested I bring the car in to double check to see whether I actually need the replacement. I was able to take the car in a few days later and after checking, turns out the rack was seeping just a bit of fluid, but not a major leak (what seems common for a car with 150k miles). Recommended we don't change it now and continue to check on it every oil change until it becomes an actual leak (if that ever happens). That recommendation checks out with how the car drives. Before my visit to the dealership I didn't notice any major issues with the steering--the car seemed to still have firm, controlled steering even at highway speeds. Mind you, I understand the business nature of auto shops. It is advantageous to recommend and do work on vehicles. But the fact that Tran's recommended not to get the steering rack replaced right now should speak to how honest they are with their customers (even a new one). I'll be back, and would highly recommend this place to anyone in need of service/repairs. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. The owner is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient, which honestly makes the whole experience stress-free. I always call ahead to check the wait time, and he's been super upfront and accommodating every time. On top of that, this is hands down the most reasonably priced mechanic in the area without sacrificing quality. There is a waiting space, it's a bit dated and nothing fancy, but that's not why you come here. You come for honest work, fair pricing, and solid results. My vehicle was due for the 100k major maintenance. Sy took the time to explain why it's not necessary to do everything as long as there is no issue with the car then explained the maintenance work that should be done. The cost provided by Sy was fair. The work would have required me to leave the car overnight but Sy was able to complete the work by close of business the same day. 05/05/23 Yesterday Sy was helpful in checking to see if I simply had a loose battery cable. I did not. It appeared that my starter was beginning to fail and I had intermittent starter issues. He said I could wait until it "acted up" again and let him know or since I have AAA, I could wait until I needed to be towed in. After talking to my husband and checking my service records, I decided to take it in and just go ahead and replace my starter. I called Tran's Auto Repair this morning to see if they could take me. Gil said if I got my car there in the morning, they could take care of it. Sure enough. I got it there and by early afternoon, Sy called and said it was done. When I picked up my car, there was a gentleman picking his car up too. I asked if he had been coming to Tran's for a while. He told me, "Yes! I've been coming for at least 30 years! These guys saved me over $8k! I had a check engine light on and the dealership lied to me about what was wrong. They claimed I needed an entire new bulkhead wiring box as rats had chewed it. Went it for oil change and to change out my breaks. Tran's was able to save me some money by inspecting the break pads and informing me on the front needed to be replaced along with the rotors. Very glad to have found a great local shop to take my Mazda to for repair services. I've been taking my Mazda to the dealership for routine service but took my car here for the first time to resurface my brakes and replace my battery. The cost was half of the dealership cost, and they even told me that a service the dealership recommended wasn't necessary yet. I was able to take my car in in the morning and pick it up by mid afternoon. Note that they don't make appointments, you can either call ahead to get a sense of how long a service will take or directly show up and drop off your car. I've brought 2 of my vehicles to Tran's for years now. Good people, honest service, and fair prices. More than once I received more value than expected. Once my hood would not latch and Tran's adjusted it for me complimentary. Another time recently, Tran's replaced a fan belt and tensioner. When I picked up the vehicle, I was told they also replaced a pulley ($25 value) at no extra charge. I recommend Tran's.
