2010 Lexus IS250 Valve Cleaning I took our Lexus IS250 with 170K miles to San Carlos Auto Solutions to have the carbon removed from the valves using media blasting (walnut shells). If you have a car that has direct fuel injection without port fuel injection, then you will be getting carbon build-up on your valves. San Carlos Auto Solutions utilizes Walnut Shell blasting to clear the valves of built up carbon. The work was performed and our car is running great and should run well for another 170K miles.

Went to do a Pre-Purchase Inspection on a car that I was planning to buy. Called up Kenneth and his team and they were able to slide me in on their busy schedule. They gave me a run down of the results of the inspection, as well as their opinion on whether or not I should purchase the car. Very professional, helpful, and reliable. In and out about 40 minutes. Highly recommend for any car related work!

Anyone with an Acura NSX should (hands down) go see Kenneth at San Carlos Auto Solutions. We were having issues with our 1998 Acura NSX. We initially took it to a local Bay Area authorized Acura dealer. They had thought they fixed the issue but they didn't. We connected with Kenneth on Facebook where he came highly recommended by the local NSX community. Kenneth was very willing to help us. He was honest and said that he would do his best to help us fix some on-going issues we were having. He was able to fix the issue and also found some other problems that we were unaware of, which he was able fix as well. He kept us informed every step of the way. His attention to detail, promptness, expertise, and experience in dealing with older and highly specialized iconic vehicles is unparalleled. We will definitely be returning the San Carlos Auto Solutions for any further issues and needs for our car. The NSX has never run better and we finally feel good about taking it on road trips without the worry of the car throwing us fault codes.

Hi! I had a very scary incident today where my car stalled and had its alternator below 5%. (Don't even know how I made it to this place) from O'Reilly's but within 2 hours SCAS was able to put in my new alternator, causing a happy costumer! Very time efficient, amazing costumer service from Prince, and left feeling content! Highly recommend for anyone needing car services! Hope to use them for future car needs.

Perhaps a flat tire on the way to work is the signal to have an inspection, which is exactly what Justin had recommended for my car. I went with many of his recommendations in terms of what to fix, and the reports are just so thorough in what they find, that it is hard to delay anything to be taken care of. Justin's transparency throughout the process was definitely the highlight - his communication was stellar, even after my car was fixed, he called me to see if everything was all right after the fact. Although the turnaround time was extended, they offered a ride to the shop, as well as offered their rental car for the potential weekend I was going to be without my car, which I ended up not needing the entire weekend, as my car was only in the shop the next extra morning. All in all, I have a maintained car, new tires, and I had yet another great experience at A+ auto repair. Thanks again Justin!

I wanted a truly thorough understanding of the condition of the car, and A Plus Auto Repair absolutely delivered. What stood out most was Justin, the shop manager. I honestly don't think I've ever dealt with an auto repair shop where leadership was this engaged in the customer experience and making sure the work met my expectations. We had long, detailed discussions before the inspection so he fully understood my concerns, and afterward he personally followed up with a phone call to make sure I was satisfied and understood the findings. The inspection itself was extremely thorough and gave me a much clearer picture of the vehicle's condition. At no point did I feel rushed, dismissed, or upsold. The entire experience felt professional, transparent, and customer-focused. I highly recommend this shop, especially if you want people who genuinely care about doing the job right and making sure you leave informed and confident.

I was a little frustrated because they told me the problem was fixed. I immediately brought the back, had it re-diagnosed, and was later told there is another issue which would cost $700 (after a bit of a discount), and there could be more after that. It's an older car, but with relatively low mileage for its age (20 year old Lexus sedan with 105k miles). At least this time I was told there are potentially other underlying issues, which could be cost prohibitive. After this second round of repairs, I was told they'd have to partially take apart the engine because "it could be..." I didn't want to continue this process if they weren't even sure what the problem is and I would have to pay them more so they could "maybe find" what is causing the check engine light. They seemed to be more diligent this second time, and took a little more care to see if the check engine light issue was fully resolved. Good on them for their second effort. I wish they could have done a more thorough check the first time instead of it seeming so exploratory. Maybe that's how the problem had to be discovered, but it felt like it was more process of elimination than a targeted solution. I can disconnect and reconnect my battery and get the same results of the check engine light off for a few days. I took the car back now $2400 lighter in the pocket, unclear if the two parts they replaced may have still been functioning, and with my check engine light still on. I feel it was a misdiagnosis of the problem initially. If they properly diagnosed the problem, my decision making would have been different. Instead, I feel as if I got strung along for two payments if I wanted to have my car back that I still can't register.

I walked in and asked for a quote for my WRX, a clutch and hydraulic replacement, and was given an estimate of over $6,000! After doing some research and checking with local Subaru specialists such as PM Autoworks, I found that TL's pricing was nearly double the market rate for both parts and labor. Unfortunately, TL Auto quoted $4,242.99 just for the clutch replacement, WITHOUT a flywheel resurface or a flywheel. PM Autoworks quoted $2,058.09 for the same job WITH an OEM flywheel. In my case, TL Auto is applying HUGE markups on basic OEM hardware. For example, TL auto charges $942.87 JUST for a "Genuine" clutch flywheel, AND $948.94 for a clutch kit, which comes out to $1,891.81 for BOTH. Fortunately, PM Autoworks charges $921.68 for BOTH the OEM clutch and OEM flywheel, and other parts that make up a clutch kit are also included in the price. TL quoted over $1,700 for the replacement of the master/slave cylinders. I was able to source the high-quality Japanese OEM parts (Seiken/Nabtesco) from PartsGeek for $280.10, and PM Autoworks charges 2 hours of labor (inquired after the quote) instead of the 4+ hours implied by TL's quote. By going to PM Autoworks instead of TL Auto, I am saving an HONEST $4,000 for the same work!! In my case, the price difference isn't just a few hundred dollars--it's thousands! If you work hard for your money, I strongly recommend that anyone, especially Subaru owners, AVOID the "general repair" markups at TL Auto. (See attached photos for proof of the price gap.) *** UPDATE*** Just got the work done (and then some) on my WRX by PM Auto. For all the work performed, the total was UNDER $3k! (Invoice in picture). It only took them 6 hours--straight up skills. TL Auto claims their pricing "reflects the quality of parts we use and the confidence we have in the work performed." That's fine, but high quality shouldn't be an excuse to charge an absurd markup for "exceptional service." They also claim their pricing includes complimentary rideshare and free loaner vehicles, yet a friend of mine who had work done there was never offered those services. Let's get one thing straight, PartsGeek is one of the BEST places to get OEM parts at a respectable price. Just because they are a "discount website" doesn't mean they aren't an equivalent comparison. They sell the exact same parts without the massive markup. Some businesses, like TL Auto, clearly don't like it when customers do their research and shop smart. Even more telling: TL Auto failed to admit they overcharged on their estimate for the SAME OEM parts that PM Auto sourced directly from the dealership. I'm sharing this to be transparent about my experience. I don't want others to be robbed by shops like this. I will never take my cars back there, and I'll be advising everyone I know to stay away as well. (Final invoice in the pictures)

They told me what would be involved and that they would not be able to work on it without it costing a fortune. A less than honest shop might've tried to soak me for a repair job that ends up costing more than expected. I know, because others have tried that. These guys gave me an honest appraisal, and I remembered that when choosing a shop to work on my wife's car. We had just bought a 2006 BMW 330 ci, and like clockwork, just after the 30-day warranty expired, we had problems. It had just rained torrentially for three straight days and unbeknownst to us, the drainage ports in the trunk were completely clogged, allowing water to build up and penetrate to the electrical system. We noticed the dash lights, indicators, and steering wheel controls did not work. We brought it to Toole's with the hope that it was something easily diagnosed and fixed. It wasn't. To keep an already long story from getting much longer, I will just say that it was a 4-day-long diagnosis as the problem component(s) were not easily found, even with advanced diagnostic equipment. They sought out expert advice from other professionals who specialize in BMWs. The problem component was found and replaced. I originally agreed to three hours of labor, but since it went as long as it did, I happily agreed to an extra hour. So essentially, they stuck to the agreement plus a reasonable additional amount. I tried to add on a tip but they wouldn't accept it. We bought them pizzas instead. I recommend this shop because they're honest, friendly professionals who seem to really want to help out their customers while running a respectable business.

I tried again about two weeks ago when I went in for a problem with the driver's side window. Give them a second chance. The young man told me, to my face, that it would cost $260 **just to look at the problem**. In deference to his youth I did not say what I was really thinking, asked him to repeat the quote, said thank you and left. Here's the thing - women are actually not stupid and this kind of thing happens to us all the time. It is infuriating and highly insulting. Ask any woman you know to tell you her version of these experiences. Finally, the core issue is being disrespected. No one wants that. Oh, the end of the story is that I went to another shop nearby and the guys looked at the problem immediately, fixed a minor adjustment and did not charge me. BTW, they had three or four bays: BMW, Lexus, Mercedes so clearly they were trusted. Just saying. Bye.

I admittedly ended up only swinging by for a general check-up on my car after driving myself across the state. They were clear about how long it was going to take them to get to my car (that I brought by without an appointment), and they actually got around to completing the task before the estimated time. They were really thorough with identifying issues, and rather than try to sell themselves, they preemptively asserted that I could take my car elsewhere if I felt more comfortable with that; they still wanted to show me exactly what/where the issue was so that I could share that with whomever I would ultimately decide to do business with. I really appreciated how genuine and honest they were without making me feel guilted into having them work on my car. I'm not going to sugarcoat that the quote was a bit steep, but I trust that they were going to be the most diligent and detail-oriented people for the job. Went in for an oil change at the local Honda dealership and they recommended I change the steering rack on my car. The estimate was $4k+. Called several different shops to get quotes. Saw Tran's Auto Repair and read through some reviews and thought I'd give it a shot. Not only did Sy take his time to check on an estimate for me--which was very reasonable for the work required to replace a steering rack--he also suggested I bring the car in to double check to see whether I actually need the replacement. I was able to take the car in a few days later and after checking, turns out the rack was seeping just a bit of fluid, but not a major leak (what seems common for a car with 150k miles). Recommended we don't change it now and continue to check on it every oil change until it becomes an actual leak (if that ever happens). That recommendation checks out with how the car drives. Before my visit to the dealership I didn't notice any major issues with the steering--the car seemed to still have firm, controlled steering even at highway speeds. Mind you, I understand the business nature of auto shops. It is advantageous to recommend and do work on vehicles. But the fact that Tran's recommended not to get the steering rack replaced right now should speak to how honest they are with their customers (even a new one). I'll be back, and would highly recommend this place to anyone in need of service/repairs.
