My wife and I are from South Florida and while on vacation, my Jeep broke down just west of West Pueblo, Colorado. My alternator went out. A nice person (thanks Zach) stopped to help and tried to flat tow us into town. It seems that in the process either my transfer case or transmission were affected. This made the jeep unsafe to drive without causing more damage. The next morning I reached out to John (who I found through a web search with good reviews), explained my situation, and asked if he could at least check the Jeep out for me. In spite of the short notice and being swamped with work, he took time out of his busy schedule to inspect my Jeep and give me his professional opinion. He was honest and very knowledgeable. Furthermore he was accommodating in our time of need and went out of his way to help us get back on track. Due to warranty issues we ended up shipping the Jeep back home for repairs, but without John's help we would have struggled to accomplish this. Absolute Train Wreck. UPDATED AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE. You can see by the owner's response, the lack of professionalism and immaturity that you can expect from this shop. The owner reports that I drove the vehicle 47 miles in limp mode. That's false. It is exactly 60 miles from my house to his shop. It was not in limp mode when I left my house and it did not return to limp mode until I was roughly 4 miles from his shop. Perhaps he paid a worker to drive it around in limp mode for an hour or so to avoid honoring a $3000 repair. He had been making excuses all along the way to avoid honoring it. Had the rebuild been done properly in the first place there would be no cause for concern of a transmission issue; only electrical. Had the repair been done properly in the first place there should be no concern for a transmission problem period. The owner claims that I, "drove it and burned it up the first time", despite my ability to produce the receipt from the trailer which was rented to get the vehicle to his shop. The owner making disparaging comments about me being, "off my rocker" do not change the facts of the matter. The vehicle had a transmission problem. It was transported by trailer to his shop to have the transmission problem repaired. After several weeks and nearly $3000 it was returned to me only to have the exact same problem only days later; though the owner claims it was a new problem. The owner then set out an excuse campaign as to why it was my fault and that he would not honor his warranty. The reason our last phone conversation ended with me hanging up on him was due to his increasing level of hostility towards me. No offer of resolution was discussed; only excuses for why he would not honor his warranty. ORIGINAL REVIEW This shop is an absolute disaster of a business. There are no negative reviews because businesses can have negative reviews removed essentially by paying up to the SEOs. There was a negative review on here before which is now conspicuously missing. When I initially took my car there the owner, Jon, of course recommended the more expensive repair option of completely rebuilding the transmission. He stated that if they tried the less expensive repair (still well over $1000) that they wouldn't warranty the work. To save future hassles, I opted for the much more expensive repair (nearly $3000). Less than 2 weeks after getting my car back it developed the exact same problem that I took it in for. As with many less reputable businesses, the attempts at customer blaming began. After returning the vehicle to their shop, the owner then notified me that it was actually the vehicle's computer causing the problem and not the transmission.....so did the transmission need rebuilt in the first place? After approximately a month I received my car back and was told that it was running good and ready to go. When I picked it up it was indeed running good. A few days later it developed a very loud whine that is clearly transmission related. When I contacted the owner about this, per the norm of our conversations, he became defensive, argumentative, and generally unprofessional and inappropriate. He resumed blaming me, stating that the new issue was unrelated to their work and developed because I had driven the car in "limp mode". I advised him the distance that it was driven in limp mode, not contraindicated by the manufacturer, and he continued to refuse responsibility for the shoddy work that they had done. He stated that I should have trailered it back to their shop. I advised him that, as they recommended, I had trailered it to their shop for the initial repair. That was their opportunity to get it right. Yada, yada, nearly $3000 and 2 months without my car later, I have a vehicle with a major transmission issue and a shop that refuses to stand behind their work. Not to mention the pot smell in my car the first time that I picked it up. Excuses, excuses, yada, yada. Don't waste your time or money at this hack shop. read more

We were from out of state and our transmission lost all of the fluid and we popped a gasket out. These guys squeezed us in when they were booked. They did an amazing job getting us in and out. I really appreciate them finding the time to fix my car. read more

Took my motor/trans swapped 2001 Firebird here for a 4l60e that wasn't shifting into 2nd or 4th gear. They had the thing done in 2 days and built me a STOUT transmission. Had some problems with a leaking torque converter and they immediately took care of it (they don't build the TC so not their fault). Had a couple of other smaller issues which is to be expected with "built" vehicles like this but John was on it and had my vehicle back to me within a few hours. Price never changed, they did exactly what they said they would and then some. I'm very pleased with Trans Doc and will be bringing them all of my transmission jobs from now on. 30 years dealing with various transmission shops and this is literally the FIRST one to actually impress me. Also, if you smell marijuana when you visit their shop, keep in mind they are literally surrounded by legal grow operations that you can smell from miles away. I smell them every day I drive through that area. This is a great shop and I would recommend them to anyone. read more

My family and I were driving through Pueblo, Co on Saturday March 12, on our way to Utah for a brief Spring Break vacation when we pulled over to fuel up. At the stop sign we heard a very loud grinding noise and when we got to the gas station the wheels locked up. We were lucky enough to make it to a nearby hotel, checked in and got settled. I book a rental to complete the trip then started searching for a mechanic to repair what I thought was a transmission or one of the differentials. I settled on the Transmission Doctor because of the Google and Yelp reviews. The reviews couldn't have been more accurate. I left on Sunday to Utah without having made any arrangements with these guys but hoping for the best. On Monday morning I called John told him what was happening and told him that I needed it back later that week because we would be returning to Texas. He said he could handle it and would call me back when he had it. I made the arrangements with the wrecker service and John called me as soon as it was in his garage to let me know he had it. Then he called me to let me know what was wrong. Then he called me to let me know what needed to be fixed. Then he called me to let me know it was complete. Then he drove the truck back to the hotel, left the keys with the front desk and called me to let me know it was delivered. I paid him through PayPal and prayed I had made the right decision. When I got to the hotel the truck was parked in a well lit spot, close to the front door. The front office had the key in an envelope with my receipt and MOST importantly he left the truck in excellent working condition. The problem ended up being an improperly installed rear brake caliper that had come loose and had seized the rear brake rotor preventing rotation. Because of my absence from the area, a lesser mechanic could easily have called it something more expensive and I would have had no other choice but to pay the repair. John, however, was honest and forthcoming at every step of the way and I cannot express my appreciation for the relief he provided me during what could have been a very terrible situation. I found him to be extremely professional and his rates were extremely reasonable. My only regret is that his business isn't in Dallas/Fort Worth because I would like to provide him with all my business. I highly and without reservation recommend Transmission Doctor for any automotive service. John, thank you so much for taking such good care of us. John and his guys are incredible! I took my 2007 GMC Yukon in to have the transmission rebuilt. While there I asked John to sevice the rear differential, front differential and the transfer case. John ran into multiple problems with the tranny and the transfer case. Items that any other shop would have charged me hundreds of dollars more, John keeped the entire job on budget. Not only was he thoudands less then the other shops but my truck runs better then it ever has. The job was done earlier then I expected and John walked me threw ever repair that was done and keeped all the used parts so I could see what had went wrong. He gave me terrible service. Was very unprofessional and kept my primary work vehicle (grooming van) for 3 weeks. He claimed he didn't have time but in that case he should not have took it in. He was completely wrong in the diagnosis and refused to take the diagnosis of his employee who was right. It was a simple problem that engine fault pointed straight to. Took it too another transmission shop and it was fixed in a day. When I left a bad review on google he threatened me with ruining my business if I didn't change review at 6:30 am. I had to call the police and file a report. Only reason I'm posting this review is that he can't leave it alone. He went again today and reposted a negative review on my business page 2 months later. He cannot handle negative criticism. Very immature and volatile. Beware!! read more

John explained every detail of what he was going to do, fixed my daughter's car AND saved the transmission. Was very pleased with the quality of service and honesty here, came in on a very low (almost non existent) budget and expecting to have to call in a loan to get cash together for repairs, John took our vehicle for a test drive and determined correctly our problem was just a couple of faulty speed sensors (not a whole gear toasted as I had thought). I was very lucky it was something so small and the guys at Transmission Doctor were so kind and honest. I had been quoted more for diagnostic at other mechanics I had called than I was for the entire job here. Whether you have a big job or small I would recommend calling them. Let me start out by saying that I think the level of work John (Transmission Doctor) did was excellent. He and his team thoroughly went through the transmission and replaced everything that was needed. The price was more than fair. Being that it was a Ford tranny, it needed a lot. Planetary gears, torque converter and synchros. It took a couple of weeks due to the number of parts it needed. After getting it back, there was an initial issue with the tranny and how it shifted. John came up next day and picked up and repaired it. It was apparently an electronics issue. He provided excellent service and seems to stand behind his work. I did encounter a problem with his shop. When he brought the vehicle back, it reeked of marijuana. Understood this is a hippie kind of state, but I don't smoke, nor does my two year old. I sent him a text in a professional manner describing that I thought it was unprofessional. He fired back in a overly defensive manner saying the truck was in the shop and his guys "cut up" and relax after work. He said not to text him again. About 30 mins later, I got another text apologizing for the actions of his employees, that he let said employee go and he would pay for an interior detail. Well, this is all fine and good but I am not interested in any further services from this shop based on the unprofessional first response. If you are dropping a transmission off or you smoke yourself, by all means, I highly recommend Transmission Doctor for services. They are cheap and do great work. If you do not smoke or want your vehicle to smell of pot, I would steer away from this service. read more

After traveling 1,000 miles on our way to Kansas, we noticed that the 3rd gear was slipping. We called John and he told us that we may be experiencing a valve malfunction because of the weight we were carrying. After unloading, he test drove the vehicle and it performed ok. On our return from Kansas, once again fully loaded, we experienced the same problem. Called John and he told us that a valve in the transmission may be faulty. We agreed to leave the vehicle at his shop and have the transmission completely rebuilt. Because we had no other transportation, we rented a car. He immediately pulled our vehicle into his shop, put it on the rack and four days later, called to tell us the transmission was rebuilt. However, he also found that the left front ball joint was wearing out and suggested that it should be replaced. We told him to replace it. Both the transmission and ball joint replacement work was done at a reasonable price. Because of our time restraint; distance from home; not having recommendations regarding who we could trust to do competent work at reasonable prices; we were at a loss of where to go.
