Went to Trappe Tavern while visiting a cousin who lives locally. We went with three kids on a quiet summer Sunday evening for dinner. We were seated quickly in the bar area and quickly reviewed the menu which offered quite a few options. There is also a kids menu. The waitress was really businesslike, to the point of being kind of unfriendly and unintentionally rude. The food, however, was very good. Between us we had cheese steaks, buffalo chicken cheese steak, and I can't remember what the two kids ate but I think they liked it. The clams came out first and were yummy, served with butter for dipping. Then the cheese steaks came out and whoa...HUGE and served with a giant pile of fries. Salty, cheesy deliciousness on a soft hoagie roll like I haven't had in years. The buffalo chicken came with plenty of blue cheese, and even chunks mixed in with the meat. We all took half our sandwiches home in styrofoam boxes brought to the table. Two things that I really didn't like -- the band for the night was bringing in equipment and stacking it right next to our table while we ate -- they should have seated us somewhere else. And the waitress said, when I ordered a drink, that the establishment has a rule that any adult accompanied by children can have no more than three drinks. I wasn't going to have another anyway and there was another adult who was not drinking (and was driving) so it seemed kind of insulting that she would announce the rule when I hadn't tried to order another drink. Maybe they have a history of drunk moms gone wild. Hmmmm, next time! I feel like I didn't get the real experience because of the time of night we went, having a cranky pants waitress and three kids whining about how long everything took (it really didn't). I would go back for the cheese steak (which I finished for breakfast the next morning) but no kids next time. read more

It is what it is...a local tavern. A good one. Just relocated from the Midwest and was distressed to find a lack of variety in eating establishments..pizza, pizza, pizza. Also, because of the bizarre and antiquated liquor laws I was forced to enter The Trappe to pick up a 6 pack after work one night. I stayed and enjoyed the atmosphere. Definitely a townie crowd. Nothing pretentious or foo-foo. Solid menu, reasonable on-tap menu and friendly servers. Sports on TV. The food is exactly as advertised and well prepared. Service was good. The Trappe does everything right. The outside beach looks like a perfect choice for beer and apps after work. This is truly not the kind of place you find just anywhere. Seen better days. At one time (early 90s) it was my favorite bar; they had good beer on tap and great wings. Not so anymore, slackers for bartenders, bad food, don't think they keep their beer lines clean...gone downhill. read more

Just walked and waited to be seated. A hostess greeted us but said she could not seat us as they have another hostess that does that difficult task - wtf. We were asking this and pointing to a sign stating that hostess will seat you -huh. I guess her job was to grab and hold the menu. This was confusing to us as there were at least 6 open tables. Back in the day... From 2003 - 2007, it was great! We even had our wedding reception there. The service is now very slow and the food is decent. The cheesesteaks and onion soup are excellent but the people are rude and again the service is s l o w. Wish it was like it use to be. Went here for lunch the other afternoon with friends and they completely just nickel and dime the place. There is a charge for everything, pickles? $0.50 Onions? Another $0.50. No refills, only on there new ice tea machine do they give refills. Our food was average at best, was really disappointed! We used to love coming here, just recently it went downhill. read more

It's a sports bar, what more needs to be said. If your looking for fine dining, go elsewhere. Their sandwiches are large and well made. I have never gotten a bad meal but it is run of the mill bar food. It is a great place to go for lunch or after work. Staff is good. 3 stars because it is what it is; a dive bar without pretenses of being something more. I went on New Years Day because I wanted a drink and a bite and it was the only place open. Someone said the prime rib is to die for. If you mean dying because you are choking on gristle, then that's about right. Do not believe the hype, the menu claims to have world famous prime rib sandwiches. Mine had a huge chunk of inedible gristle running down the entire piece of meat. And, mind you it was a sandwich. My kiddo went for the French dip with seems much more pleasing. But as I said it is a dive, which has it's own certain appeal, the Four Season it is not. When you want to hide out and drink whisky in your ripped jeans and get utterly lost in every games being played simultaneously on the planet, this is your place, and mine when I just need a shot, not ambiance. read more

Certainly has the dive bar vibe going for it. Old dark interior, with a J shaped bar and several tables and booths. We sat up at the bar and the bartenders were very knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and attentive to our needs. The Crowd certainly seemed to be made up of regular local patrons who knew one another and the staff well. The servers were mostly younger girls modestly dressed. The food was typical pub fare with a large sandwich selection and a Bison burger (which I had). Everything coming out of the kitchen looked appetizing, and well presented. My burger was cooked to order and very tasty. The Beer selection was also pretty impressive. Several local and smaller craft brews on tap as well as in bottles. Beer from the tap tasted fresh and poured well, seems like they take good care of their lines and such. All in all if you're looking for a good local place to avoid the chains, I would certainly recommend The Trappe. They have some merch for sale so you can officially commemorate your visit. Love this place for lunch with wife (mine, not yours). Fun in bar or better, on back deck.... weather permitting. Onion soup + Steak sandwich = YumYum. Realize it's a lively/crowded place during happy-hours and weekend nites with live bands. AND WARNING: Frequented by busloads of local college coeds... do not look, do not peek, do not allow your eyes to leave their sockets and crawl across the floor to their tables... The Trappe is where my husband and I go when we want to have a couple drinks and watch the Phillies or Flyers (or even the World Cup), or just hang out with our friends on a Friday night. It's your typical bar...an okay selection of beer, decent food, and a happy hour atmosphere. The inside is dimly lit, but the outside deck during the warmer months is great. I think we actually prefer it then because the college kids (Ursinus College is within walking distance) are all gone for the summer. Alan the bartender is great! Very personable & quick to refill your drinks. The Trappe has drink specials during the Phillies games, and they also have one of the best French onion soups around! Been here a thousand times. Love the food, atmosphere, and friends. Sake for Leanne - she is absolutely the best - and tell her Mr G sent you. I usually do the Montreal filet, ribs, or NY Strip. I want to like this place. I love that they have all you can eat crab legs on Mondays. But that's pretty much where it starts and ends. We've been here many times because it's close and for some reason I seem to forget in between trips, that I don't particularly care for the food. I have never had anything here that has "wow'ed" me. The nachos are godawful with that fake cheese sauce. Rest is just run of the mill bar food, run of the mill being a generous description. I wish they'd revamp this menu or at least the recipes or methodology behind the current menu. read more

They make the best buffalo chicken sandwich, it is huge and sauce is great. They have good prices and I like when you can eat outside with the cute "beach"! I do agree with some the bathroom is gross and the inside is very dated, old chairs- feels like you are eating in an old basement. I'm being kind. The only good thing here is the beer- always good choices on tap and pints- not the lame glasses at most brew pubs. The food is miserable. Fatty ribeye cheese steaks range from terrible to ok. They have the worst bar pizza I'm ever eaten- no exaggeration. It was a pita with sauce and cheese on top that wasn't even crisp. Have been a Big fan of the Trappe Tavern for years, It's been a "go to" place almost every week and the food is always the same....always good! We love anything with their beef and love sitting out on their deck. The staff is great and we love the prices, for two we can get out of there for around $50 and that includes some drinks. read more

Let's start with the good and get that out of the way - the burgers are huge, and they actually cook them to an accurate amount of doneness ordered ("medium" is legit). But their burgers don't come with toppings or a side of fries (they cheap out and give you chips and two tiny slivers of a pickle). If you dare desire lettuce, onions, or any other toppings be prepared to be charged more. And there is no warning of this in the menu or offered by your waitress. Otherwise the fries are terrible, the beer selection boring and predictable, and the waitresses friendly and efficient. Not a place I'd come back to if it can be avoided. read more
