This place is nice because it's open late and has some pretty tasty food at a great price! We started with an appetizer of breaded fried mushrooms, which came out super fresh and crispy with a tasty dipping sauce. For my entree I got the Texas toast grilled cheese with cheddar instead of American, and it was very good! The cheese was perfectly melty and the bread had a strong garlic flavor. I ordered tomato in the sandwich as well, but they did not put it in there. Our server was nice though and it's a cute pub, pretty typical pub vibes with lots of tvs around and a large bar seating area. read more

Stopped in at this Irish pub on way to my soccer team's pre-season tour at Subaru stadium. Pub was quite busy for a Thursday early afternoon with most chairs around bar taken. My son and I sat at a table and ordered drinks and I had fish and chips, my son having the steak and cheese hoagie. I thought my chips were too crunchy and likewise the batter on my fish. Not really authentic to the British Isles but maybe suits the locals? My son enjoyed his sandwich and we washed food down with good pints of Guinness. So I would give the food 3 stars but the service was very good with the lady who served us being friendly and attentive. Certainly worth a visit and a nice cool dark oasis to escape the heat and humidity. read more

On the surface it's a normal American-style Irish pub. Once inside, things start to change and you'll soon realise it's not what you wanted. The owners are overly involved and the staff are not really life-long staff so much as paid slaves. This place has a well-earned negative vibe. read more

2 star can't say i paid for anything. Walked in 2 bartenders fixing drinks took them to a customer then walked in back room. Assuming owner or manager talked to customers then after awhile asked the guy next to me if he's having another. I was never acknowledged I was there, I know I'm real and people see me. I had an amazing St. Patrick's Day dinner. Delicious pierogies fried to perfect perfection. They melted some cheese on them too, with a side of sour cream. Then I had the shepherds pie. Big portion lots of cheese comes with two slabs of garlic bread. Traditional Irish music was playing all night. They had bagpipes and drums preformed live by the Brian borough orchestra! Nice little selection of Irish whiskey. I drank the quiet man most of the evening. I believe I had powers too at one point. Bartender said they mostly sell Jamison and Tully. Which is to be expected. But if you ask, they do have a little bit extra. All the food was delicious and serve served piping hot. Service was really good in spite of being packed. And it was St. Patrick's Day at a local Irish pub so I mean full to capacity. It was hard to get to the bar to order. But I found a seat eventually, and the food came out very quickly. All the staff are really nice. Certainly made my holiday meal feel special. read more

Delco hospitality at its finest! I was so relieved to find this bar right outside of the Philly airport when I had a 5 hour layover. It's a 5 minute Uber from the airport and so worth getting outside the walls of the airport. Service was 5 stars and so were the bar patrons. It was our first time in Pennsylvania and we were starving. We love to support mom and pop local businesses, so we found Monaghan's on Yelp. We pulled up and there is a patio with outdoor seating, we entered inside and inside was incredibly loud with yelling and talking, with only about half capacity. We could tell it was a neighborhood bar, as everyone seemed to know each other. We were greeted by the friendly staff and we placed our order. Food was fair inexpensive. As we waited for our food, an employee asked us if we wanted to play musical bingo for free prizes. We declined, but seems like everyone in the bar played. They played a great mix to music, shoutout to the makeshift DJ for his song choices. Food took forever, probably 20-30 minutes. We ordered an open face turkey sandwich with gravy, mashed potatoes and corn, chicken fingers & fries, a burger and a soft pretzel. Food was not great. Very very simple, everything tasted like it was frozen or from a can. But I can see how the locals like it, as they were all having a blast. The noise level was unbearable for us, so so loud, not from the music but just the people inside. read more

If you get an opportunity, you must give Monahans a chance. My favorite cheesesteaks, even a chicken cheesesteak with fried onions, sweet peppers, and bacon, it will have you talking to it, lol. There are plenty of spirits to choose from, and the beer is always cold. Some vegetarian options. Delish apps and the app pretzel with their honey mustard is phenomenal. Safe, comfortable, clean, and great people. Non-smoking, but you can on their outdoor patio, which is heated during colder weather. TV's everywhere. read more

Ever seen "Cheers"? If so, then you get the drift here. I was just another fella passing through the area from a nearby airport hotel, so sadly no one knew my name...but the bartender sure knew many of the people who were bellied up to the bar! This is clearly a local place in Essington and for good reason. I wondered away from my hotel as I did not really feel like paying $12 a drink and $15 for a hamburger and boy am I glad I made that choice. I ended up bellied up to the bar here and ordered a tuna melt, side of tater tots and two Coors light drafts...all for $14.50. Yeah, I am being for real, that is not a typo. You can actually still get a full meal and a couple of beers for that price!! And to boot it was really tasty! In addition to the food the atmosphere was welcoming, friendly, laid back and local. They have a lot of specials throughout the week, as well as live music on particular nights. The night I was in house happened to be acoustic night. Overall, I really enjoyed my brief time at this place and when I have a stay-over in the Philly airport area again, you best believe I will be bellying up to the bar at Monaghan's! read more

I had their shepherd's pie made with ground beef, vegetables and baked with a topping of mashed potatoes. My son had the Cheesesteak. Both were good although the fries could have been tastier as there was no seasoning. The pub itself looked like it had a robust history with posters around the walls highlighting different charities they supported. Some of the regulars were amused by me taking photos of my CS. Big good CS. Troeg's being $4.50 may have been my favorite part of Monaghan's. The bready roll and LT on bottom may have improved the vision of a lot of meat. Thursday's are $5 6" CS' I read this after I ordered my 12" CS. If you're going out with friends for a few/many craft beers and a CS, Monaghan's is not a bad option. read more

Wanted to get out of my hotel to grab a bite to eat. So I hopped on Yelp and found this little gem! It was Monday, so it was pretty quiet, but filled with locals. The bartender instantly greeted me and was very attentive and kind. Based on the reviews I was torn between the philly cheese steak and the shepherds pie. So I attempted to have the best of both worlds! They have different kind of eggs rolls- I ordered the Philly cheesesteak one. SO yum! It gave me a teaser of it. Then I had the small sheppards pie. It was delicious and just the right amount! Stop by here if you're in the area! Great place of you are staying close of have a long layover. They also sell 6-packs of beer, which I thought was cool. Since they are open late, you have a place to purchase beer on your way home or on your way out. They also have outside seating with heaters! read more
