Food is good. However, I've eaten 8 different flavors of pies, I'm sorry to say, the majority tasted like assembly line pies. No where NEAR the handmade pies they served in the past. To make a comparison: Though a few of their pies are near top-notch, Walmart offers slightly better tasting pies and a lighter, flakier crust. Sorry guys. Three people (one of them a child!) should not be charged $70 for what we were served last month, and $20 more for the pie (whole) was insulting. That was our third time to Trapper's in two years -- we kept hoping things would improve -- and we shall not return, as it was by far our worst experience there ... meaning they dug their way down from "pretty low" to "impact crater" to "I think we're in China". Premium prices require a premium experience. This simply isn't it. What we were served was nowhere near what I'm capable of doing on a BAD day in the kitchen. Canned vegetables; "salad" comprising iceberg lettuce and the finest-quality no-name bottled dressing, served with a rack of generic saltine crackers; rolls from a bag. My selection was a "chili size". Properly done, a chili size is a patty on an open-faced toasted robust bun, smothered to invisibility in rich, red, well-seasoned chili, a mass of melting shredded cheese, and either a pile of diced onions and tomatoes, or legitimate pico di gallo. What I was served looked as though it had been assembled in the dark by someone who'd once heard of a chili size many years ago, collected Internet-quality rumors or AI "recipes", was lacking half the necessary ingredients, and had neither a sense of taste nor smell on top if it all: A Wonder Bread-quality bun, a patty that tasted sour -- like it had been dipped in lemon juice prior to cooking -- perhaps fifteen individual shreds of shredded cheese, and "chili" that resembled thin brown gravy (also from a can) with a few lackadaisical beans and some mediocre lumps of ground beef, with no hint of southwestern or chili flavor to it. The semi-limp raw diced onions and tomatoes served in a minuscule plastic cup as a side garnish had more verve. Also, the garnish and the "chili size" were nearly the same temperature, though one should've been hot and the other cold. I sampled others' selections. The mashed potatoes are either from flakes or a can as well, and the gravy has the same sort of nasty sour flavor as the patty did on the regrettable "chili size". Green beans are very obviously from a can: Mushy, bland, insipid. Now let's have a word about the pies. Trapper's is famous for its pies, locally, and I have absolutely no idea why. The pies are grotesquely overpriced, considering that the fillings are also canned (I asked; they admitted it; I bought anyway, more fool I). Based on retail price for pie fillings, I'm guessing they're charging a 600% markup. Exorbitant would be one term for it. Highway robbery is another. The atmosphere isn't really worthy of the term. Booths are separated by nearly untreated plywood, seating is too close together, tables are too small, and the ambience can sometimes get loud. This would be fine in a diner, but separated seating suggests an attempt at something higher end, in this case perpetrated by someone with no idea how interior design works, let alone the special additional requirements of restaurant seating and decor. The people are nice enough, but that just doesn't make up for the rest of the experience. If American diner fare is what you want, it'll cost you $3 to $5, round trip, in gas to go to Denny's in Show Low, you'll pay about the same or less, and the food will be better quality. Or if you want to keep it in town, go to the Smokehouse or Streets on Main. Give Trapper's a hard pass. The gall of this place is simply astonishing. read more

Burger with fries - yummy. Open faced roast beef - alright. We walked in after a hike at the Petrified Forest, so we were hungry. We were greated by the friendly staff and stopped us right by the pies. They all looked yummy! We chatted a bit & then removed ourselves to a booth. Waitress was very nice. Brought a carafe of cold water. A big plus in my book - Trappers has both Coke products and Pepsi products. This girl was happy with their offering of Coke Zero! This place is an old time staple in Taylor. Nothing extra special about the decor or restaurant itself except the friendliness of the staff and hearty, stick to your ribs food. Passing through Taylor yesterday, I stopped for an epic slice of lemon cream pie. Not only was it delicious, but the staff was as nice and engaging as any cafe I've ever stopped at. So this morning I returned for a down-home breakfast, and was again treated with smiles and a terrific meal. Very reasonable pricing and plenty of food to enjoy. Treat yourself to Trappers Cafe! when we came into the restaurant we were immediately greeted, the waitress we had was fantastic, could not have asked for better service! The food was ok. I had a mushroom burger with onion rings. My Son had chicken fried steak, which he did not care for and got a bacon cheeseburger instead. The CFS had brown gravy on it and he did not like it (the waitress did warn him). Burgers would have been better if the buns were better quality. Otherwise, I will be back, but to try something different. Customer service is huge to me! read more

Loved their roast beef dinner plate. I ordered the small plate and it was plenty the way it should be served sliced paper, thin nice with hot delicious gravy. Mashed potatoes were excellent! Have been going weekly to Trappers for 8 years. We have watched the prices go up and the quality of the food hit rock bottom. Yesterday was the final straw. I always order the open-face hot beef sandwich while my husband varies his choices week by week. My sandwich was not edible as the meat was so tough it was not chewable. Husband who will eat any and everything said it was terrible. Told waitress (Kristen I believe) I would not pay for something I could not eat. She took it away, asking why we kept coming there if the food was so bad. I told her we supported local businesses but will no long support Trappers. I understand the need for increased prices, but not the decline in food quality and skimpy portions. This is the second time we have dropped Trappers because of a really bad meal. Giving them a second chance was a huge mistake on our part. Really a shame. Save yourself the misfortune of a lousy meal. read more

A staple in Taylor Arizona and has always been a local favorite. It's a restaurant that has something for everyone for basic American fare and yummy pies. Most of the food here is pretty basic and just ok food but my favorite is the pies. They have tons of different varieties to choose from but the credit pies are my favorite. I love the banana cream pie and the peanut butter pie the best. The peanut butter pie is a nice and peanut buttery taste with a great tasting cruat and nice layer of whip cream on top. So good! The banana cream pie is a nice banana pudding mixed in with bananas Witt a nice thick layer of whip cream. So yummy! My opinion is the pies are the best thing about trappers but if you want a good meal, it's not a bad choice for what else is in the city. read more

Took my grandparents here for lunch at Grandpa's request. I had never been here prior, but have been back several times since. We got in quick, which I hear is abnormal at lunch time because they are good/busy. Our server gave us the daily special and we all three put our menus down and said we will have that (open faced turkey sandwich, DELICIOUS). She joked about trying not to mix them up, and got our order in. Food was out pretty quickly, and was absolutely awesome. On the way out I grabbed a pie to take home as well, which was one of the best I have ever had. Prices are great, food is high quality. There is a reason the locals are here, and a reason that we now drive in from Flagstaff for lunch. read more

Friendly service, delicious comfort food with huge portions, and the pies are to die for! Highlights of the meal were the onions rings, chef salad (super fresh and with homemade dressings), and the beef melt with chili peppers. Haven't tried any of the actual food at this restaurant but they have amazing pies. Their lemon cream pie is to die for. I have never been one to like lemon flavored desserts but their lemon cream pie is the only thing I've ever really enjoyed that was lemon flavored. A quick stop for lunch based on several recommendations. We are glad we did, we were treated well by the staff, the place is clean, cozy and the menu varied. Trappers Cafe Snowflake, Az. 9/22 Went for lunch. I had a BBQ sandwich, wife had the hot roast beef with mashed potatoes and green beans. She reports roast beef was good but was not hot, just warm. My BBQ was roast beef also with BBQ sauce on the side. It was good, sauce was good, just I am used to pork or pulled pork not shaved beef. But like I said it was good and a healthy size sandwich too. We stopped going to trappers a year or so ago due to the lack of quality. Tried it again a few days ago. They used to have the best cheeseburger deluxe using fresh ground beef. Now....not so good. We used to go to this place quite often before it went all the way DOWN hill which is sad because it used to be such a good place! The place is not clean! I would say "not clean" is a huge understatement! My daughter and I caught a spider that went across our table into one of the empty water cups. When we told the waitress she took the spider cup back to the clean cup area and put it back with all the other clean cups, literally while we watched her. Second, you WILL get hair in & throughout your food! They DO NOT wear hair nets in the kitchen. We got hair served with our cheeseburger and fries & the waitress saw it & then made a personal judgement to just take off the price of the french fries being that was the location of the hair ?!?! SERIOUSLY?!?!?! THIS IS DISCUSTING!! NO ONE WANTS TO EAT ANYTHING OFF OF THE ENTIRE PLATE WHEN THERE IS HAIR ON IT!! Just a common courtesy is to not charge for the entre plate if there is hair served on the plate, or maybe require kitchen staff to wear hair nets to avoid it all together!! We are not going back to this place ever again.. we paid $30 for hair with our meal, and that's after the deduction of 'just' the hairy french fries!
