    French dip with crispy fries

One of the best things about traveling is finding little hidden gems in small towns. Here in Hebert, Arizona, the Red Onion Bar and Grill is that little gem. We were there on a Friday night and although it was busy, they were able to get us in pretty quickly. You can tell it's a very popular place because there was a wait but no one seemed impatient. The hostess was very welcoming and all smiles as she has escorted us to our table. Our waiter was Marty. He was absolutely excellent! The bar was very crowded which was where we sat, but he had a handle on everything. It was impressive watching him work. The food was great! I had the French dip and my husband had the fried chicken sandwich. Both were excellent. The french fries were hand cut and crispy. You can see the chefs hard at work on the grill from the bar. They were like a well oiled machine. There was a nice selection of beer. The ambience is casual but nice. The bar area had the softball game playing, and there is a pool table. Bottom of mine is if you are ever cruising through Hebert on Highway 260, pop on into the Red Onion Bar and Grill. You won't be disappointed.

We came in for an early dinner over Labor Day weekend to beat the crowds of people in Heber. We were sat right away on a Friday night at 4 pm. Our server was nice, but not really talkative. We got potato skins to share they were decent. My daughter got a kid's corndog and I got a regular burger and fries. I don't have any complaints. Is it the best burger I've had? No, but it was good and nice to try something new. I did like all the condiments that came in the bucket so you didn't have to ask for sauces. I do think the fries were under-seasoned. I would come back and try another appetizer and burger!

Was on a trip for work in snowflake AZ and on the way back my group decided to stop here for lunch the Irishman was an amazing sandwich. The wait staff was very helpful and polite, the decor was very rustic and the food was delicious. I will certainly be returning here on my next trip when I can try out the locations at the bar

Great local spot. Seat yourself casual. Bar on one side and casual dining on the other. Staff was so friendly! Food was filling. Can't wait to try the fried cheesecake next time!

We have been here one other time before. Everytime we come up here camping, we come by here for lunch and a drink. Such an awesome place. The food is great. This time we shared the potato skins and a cowboy burger. The staff here is so friendly and welcoming. The overall feel of the bar/restaurant is very relaxing and a cool place to come and hang out.

Last night we ordered two of the bbq burgers from the menu to go. I've had some seriously amazing burgers in my life and this one was alright in a pinch. I wouldn't say this was the best burger but maybe it was the best burger in Heber. The French fries were sad... limp and lacked structure to them. It would have been really nice if they were crispy! Maybe it was a fluke and we should have tried some other options. Not going to rule out Red Onion altogether but probably would try something else next time!

Great weekend of fishing! I've passed by this place sooo many times....gonna knock it off my list!

I go fishing up in the White Mountains a bunch and I've passed by The Red Onion each time thinking I'll hit it one of these days.....that day finally came to fruition. It was a Sunday and they weren't very busy, so we walked in and seated ourselves. There were lots of table tops and regular tables throughout with a number of TV's to catch any game you may be interested in watching. We were greeted quickly and the Hatch Green Chile Burger caught my eye. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare and had plenty of hatch green chiles with pepper jack cheese. It was super tasty! I used their homemade ranch dressing to dip my fries in. That ranch though....uuugh...I'd buy it in a back alley way from the dealer, it was soooo good! On a scale of 1 - 10, I should have stopped here years ago! I'll be hitting this place up on my fishing expeditions more often!

We arrived around 12:30 on a Saturday. It was pretty busy but we were seated promptly and service was excellent throughout the meal. My wife had the chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato tots. She loved both. I had the Southwest Omelette which consists of shredded pork, green chile and jack cheese added to a three egg omelette. Delicious! Mine were accompanied by has browns and an English muffin. The muffin appeared to be homemade and was very good. Definitely a place to stop if you are in Overgaard!

The first thing that caught my eye was a novel Steak and Egg dish that included a six oz. Sirloin steak with "loaded hash brown potatoes," that's hash browns with a load of onions, bell peppers, and cheese. This was a delicious side complete with two eggs my style and choice of toast. There was even more but I passed on the bacon, it was just too much. My wife opted for the all veggie omelet (which of course she couldn't finish) with all it fixings which we took home. One of the highlights of our service was the young waiter, Owen, who had been added to the staff recently. He was anxiously trying to be so helpful it was a joy to be one his first "customers." He of course getting help from is fellow staffers especially Debbie our favorite. In addition I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fullly appointed bakery available to us as we checked out. There is was with home baked brownies, pies, and coffee cake to tempt us as we left. I could go on and on but you get the picture. Treat yourself to the Ponderosa Cafe when in our town, you won't regret it!

Second-to-none meals, speedy service and a great selection for a sit-down restaurant. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, made with a plain bagel, scrambled eggs, sausage, and some extra jalapeños. Everything was homemade, and nothing was like a Cisco brand at all. The bagel was fluffy, the eggs were scrambled to perfection, the sausage was juicy and the jalapeños were a nice add-on. I hope to try the waffles or the breakfast burrito next time. When I came in, the waitress had me at a table in no time, ready to ask my drink and, only about 10 minutes later, my order. The staff provided me with the WiFi password (which I believe to be "Chritina1911", not Christina, or something of that) and were very kind and helpful. Inside was jam-packed of cowboy pictures, taxidermies, funny signs, booths, tables, American flags of different nature (Army, Navy, Navy Seabees), and a bunch of happy people! It was very American, which I love. The restaurant was clean, the booths had felt of some sort and overall a very comforting experience. What I realize, and what you should too, is that it's not everyday a cafe like this is here in your area. I recommend this to all breakfast lovers, this was truly a fantastic place. So take a trip down to Wood Shed Cafe for amazing food, spectacular service and a cozy American dining feel! Thank you!
