This is a great, down-home restaurant & bar, where you pull off a napkin from a paper towel holder at your table. I had a steak sandwich, which had a big piece of delicious steak cooked the way I like it. The other people in my party had fish & chips and the fried shrimp basket. I am not sure why this place has lower reviews , the service was incredible . KJ was our waitress and she was excellent, friendly , went above and beyond . They are dog friendly on the patio and even brought my pup some water. There is a heavy family vibe here which is so charming you can't help but love it. Now the food . I got a cheeseburger and my son got the red onion bowl . Both excellent , fresh ingredients we didn't wait any more than 10-15 min or so and everything was delicious. We came in for an early dinner over Labor Day weekend to beat the crowds of people in Heber. We were sat right away on a Friday night at 4 pm. Our server was nice, but not really talkative. We got potato skins to share they were decent. My daughter got a kid's corndog and I got a regular burger and fries. I don't have any complaints. Is it the best burger I've had? No, but it was good and nice to try something new. I did like all the condiments that came in the bucket so you didn't have to ask for sauces. I do think the fries were under-seasoned. One of the best things about traveling is finding little hidden gems in small towns. Here in Hebert, Arizona, the Red Onion Bar and Grill is that little gem. We were there on a Friday night and although it was busy, they were able to get us in pretty quickly. You can tell it's a very popular place because there was a wait but no one seemed impatient. The hostess was very welcoming and all smiles as she has escorted us to our table. Our waiter was Marty. He was absolutely excellent! The bar was very crowded which was where we sat, but he had a handle on everything. It was impressive watching him work. The food was great! I had the French dip and my husband had the fried chicken sandwich. Both were excellent. The french fries were hand cut and crispy. You can see the chefs hard at work on the grill from the bar. They were like a well oiled machine. There was a nice selection of beer. The ambience is casual but nice. The bar area had the softball game playing, and there is a pool table. Bottom of mine is if you are ever cruising through Hebert on Highway 260, pop on into the Red Onion Bar and Grill. You won't be disappointed. read more

Found this restaurant while getting lost in the mountains. There's no reception in the area jfyi. The place was clean and well kept. There's a 30-45 min wait time which was fine bc the food was delicious. Our server was friendly and everyone seemed pretty nice. We have been going to Red Onion for over 20 yrs. They used to have the best French fries anywhere. They are not the same now. They have changed something in the way they cook them and they are not nearly as good. Three people in our party had burgers. All were pleased with them. One had the Prime Rib dinner. It was so so. Overcooked. The salad bar used to be great as well. Used to have some type of meat (diced ham, pepperoni, etc), as well as potato salad, cheese, olives, pickles, and all of the other normal veggies. Not anymore. It's just a very average restaurant now days. Now, let's talk about service. It was great. Our server was on top of everything. Marty is a particular favorite as a server. Last night we ordered two of the bbq burgers from the menu to go. I've had some seriously amazing burgers in my life and this one was alright in a pinch. I wouldn't say this was the best burger but maybe it was the best burger in Heber. The French fries were sad... limp and lacked structure to them. It would have been really nice if they were crispy! I just had the Irishman Burger at the red onion and may have died. They somehow mixed a Reuben (my favorite sandwich) perfectly with the most delicious medium rare burger and changed my life. Plus the homemade blue cheese dressing and sweet potato waffle fries put it over the top! I used to come here often when at the cabin and it felt like it went downhill about 6-8 years ago so I stopped coming. Well whatever changed they are back and know what to do with a burger and libations. We may or may not have worked our way through the entire martini menu with fabulous success. Must visit!!! We came up from the Valley and sought a place to eat and did we get more than we could've asked for. The meals were cooked perfectly more flavorful than most places I've been at home. I had the shrimp basket, their homemade tarter sauce and red sauce are phenomenal. From the burgers to chicken strips cooked lightly breaded and crispy. Try the homemade ranch dressing. OMG. I go fishing up in the White Mountains a bunch and I've passed by The Red Onion each time thinking I'll hit it one of these days.....that day finally came to fruition. It was a Sunday and they weren't very busy, so we walked in and seated ourselves. There were lots of table tops and regular tables throughout with a number of TV's to catch any game you may be interested in watching. We were greeted quickly and the Hatch Green Chile Burger caught my eye. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare and had plenty of hatch green chiles with pepper jack cheese. It was super tasty! I used their homemade ranch dressing to dip my fries in. That ranch though....uuugh...I'd buy it in a back alley way from the dealer, it was soooo good! On a scale of 1 - 10, I should have stopped here years ago! I'll be hitting this place up on my fishing expeditions more often! read more

Driving on the 260 between Phoenix and Pinetop- we had lunch here! As much as we wanted to love it, it really wasn't great. More ambiance is needed in the dining room. The bar area looks to be a more fun area to sit. The southwestern burger was really good. I'd go back for that! Huge green chili on top! The hazy IPA on tap was tasty. Church Music. The fries were terrible. We asked our amazing waitress (Tanya/Tonia?) if they were supposed to be so empty/hollow in the middle and she said no and very kindly brought us a basket free to try again. They were just as bad. They claim they are homemade but they sure felt frozen. The ladies bathroom is very tight unless you use the handicap restroom. Noticed they had good reviews and by looking at the pictures the food portions seems really good size. We decided to stop by to check it out. Well the pictures are deceiving because the burgers were small. We got the red white blue burger thinking its going to be big so my husband and I decided to split it. It took him 3 bites to finish it, that's how small they are. It was ok, nothing to brag about. We also got the chili cheese fries and that was eh. This place wasn't bad but its not great. Wow, this was one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. I had the western burger and it had pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, and I also loved the lettuce, onion and tomato on the side, that way I can choose what I want on the burger. They also came out with a bucket that had ranch, mayonnaise and ketchup and squeeze bottles. That way you can put on as much as you'd like on your food. I wish they had this in California. Where do we start here...... Food: meh. Steak was thin and drizzled, for $30/plate. Never had such a sad NY steak. Insult to injury was that it took about 40min to get the meal with an occupancy level about 20%. Came with a pre-made salad even and the steak was ordered medium rare. Lastly, Small glasses of wine $10/glass. Service: nothing changes here. There seems to be little initiative by the wait staff to be good. Ambiance: hard to tell over the Heavy Metal blaring out of the jukebox, with all patrons stating no one put money in it and that the management pre-stack the music......heard that after a $20 was put into it. Never heard one song selected after more than an hour there. This isn't a 1st time visit, nothing seems to change here much, besides the ownership. read more

Driving away from this place after wanting to try for years and never coming back. Service was rude!! The hostess was beyond rude and started off our visit on that note. Then as we sat, we weren't visited by our server for almost 15 minutes. It wasn't as if they were busy just didn't bother to decide who was taking our table. While I'm on the topic of servers everyone of them walked around with an ugly look on their face. No one seemed happy to be there and neither were we. We knew stopping in Heber it wouldn't be a quick trip because it's a slow town but this was beyond slow. We ordered 3 simple meals and it took over 40 minutes. The fish and chips were good and the absolutely only reason they are getting two stars. I was fooled by the five star ratings lately and wanted to give them a try but we will not again. Fries sucked. Totally undercooked to the point of being raw. Server disappeared into the office and I was told later she was "on a call." I saw other food being sent back. 3 cooks in the kitchen on a slow Thursday at 1:30p. Yes I told the person I flagged down (as my server was MIA) that the fries were undercooked, and told them I'd pay for them (which I did) but just wanted them to know for next time as it shouldn't happen.
