We've dinned here multiple times every time we go to Glacier National Park. Pros: - Great customer service - Their homemade bread and homemade ranch tastes amazing. Probably the best we've ever had - All the foods we've order tasted great (chicken, bison steak, ribeye, t-bone, crab meat) - All locally sourced foods - Nice Ambiance and love all the wood structures. Cons: - Not sure if I'd consider this a con, but everyone we've dinned here, something is always different (different salad toppings, different sautéed veggies). But I completely understand being it's in the middle of "no where." - Very pricey, but once again, they're not opened year round and it's all locally sourced. You would probably pay the same price in the city for high quality meat, but at least here you're helping a small community! - My only con- I prefer my steaks with no pink and well done (I know, I know). Cut into your steak as soon as you get if you're like me so you can see if they need to cook it more. Our server Melissa was top notch, super friendly and helpful. Great service here The steaks were cooked a little rarer than what I'm used to. But the flavor and tenderness was great. The bread was kind of bland, but fine with butter. It seemed denser than what I am used to. The baked potato on the side was amazing. The Calamari was prepared differently than what I'm used to, I wasn't as into it, but it tasted good. The fillet of tenderloin was by far the best of the 3 steaks. Much more tender and much better flavor. I highly recommend it. We got the Molten lava chocolate cake, and it was not as good. Seemed too doughy. Didn't really like it, also didn't like the cheesecake. Restrooms were stocked, but their soap was weak. I'd actually give this a 2.5 but I'll round up. First off, it's a supper club. Expect it to be slow to be seated. Check in with the hostess and grab yourself a drink. She said 30 minutes but it was just over an hour to get seated. Arrival: 6:45. Seated 7:50 Second, even after you are seated, it's slow. Ordered 7:55. Food arrived 8:50. We ordered the tenderloin. Luckily we told the waitress we were starving and she brought us our bread before people who were seated before us. The place was not that busy. About 2/3 of tables were filled. There was a table seated after us and you could overhear them talking about how slow it was. They were about to walk out. We split the tenderloin, which was pretty good. There's an up charge for split checks which we weren't informed about btw. Anyway, it was cooked well and the seasoning was good. For drinks, you can order from your waitress or go down to the bar. We didn't want to slow her down anymore, and ordered downstairs. The bartender kept touching his nose and face as he made the other guests' drinks who had ordered from upstairs. Touching their straw, etc. When he made mine, he washed his hands before hand so at least that helped but I was grossed out for the other guests. All in all, slow. This restaurant seems like the place to eat at if you are ever in the area where they offer more upscale meals. There are two stories to this place which is cool and if you have a big party (meaning more than 5) it tends to get busy here fast and that means you'll be waiting quite a while. When we came with a huge party, we came when they just opened and so there was no wait. By the time an hour passed being there, I noticed that a lot of parties were waiting for almost an hour just to get a table. Service here was slow and it was hard to get a server's attention as it seemed like they were short on staff. I will say bless our servers heart because we did have a toddler on our table who threw his food everywhere (i'm so sorry). What was interesting was the bathroom....if you're ever in the restaurant, go check out the ladies restroom....haha. The food here was okay, definitely on the pricier side than usual. If you wanted a rack of lamb, it costs $60. We came here when it was the blackfeet pow wow so they weren't serving alcohol even though some people did bring their own alcoholic drinks. I ordered the blackfeet which is a buffalo ribeye and to be honest it tasted just like regular ribeye, except this dish costed us $60. Overall, this place was okay for me. Service 3/5. This is a retroactive post as a warning to others. I mean you can eat it.... I visited Babb Bar Cattle Baron Supper Club during the summer of June 2023. Babb Bar Cattle Baron Supper Club is located right outside of the Many Glacier area of Glacier national park. It was very crowded at dinner time. We had a large part of 8. Seating only took 15 minutes but we had to wait 2.5 hours for our food to come. All of the steaks were of low quality and covered with some sort of A1 like sauce. They were huge steaks but really just didn't hit the spot. For the money we paid, about $35 to $45 a steak (depending on the cut), everyone in my family who had steak was underwhelmed. It came with some vegetables that were soggy and the baked potato was acceptable. After a long day of hiking, we were starving and waiting for almost 3 hours to eat was no fun. The waitress was attentive but we frequently ran out of water. The chairs were hard and most uncomfortable. Our drinks took 1 hour to show up. No compensation was given for our long wait. I was not impressed and would not return. read more

Living here in Babb/St. Mary for the Summer and working at GNP, I have had the occasion to dine at the Cattle Baron Supper Club several times. Each time, my meals have been outstanding - the Rib Eye, Salmon - outstanding. Service each time has been prompt and attentive without being obsequious. There was live music the last time I was there - a Friday evening. I can't say enough good things about this place. Dining options are limited in the St. Mary area, but thankfully one does not have to settle for a mediocre meal with the Cattle Baron around. read more

Our first time to visit. The history of the restaurant is very cool and the ambiance is amazingly interesting. We really enjoyed the people. For the food, it was just ok. The salad was good. The fresh bread was very dense and hard...I didn't care for it. I ordered the rib eye and my wife had the filet. The steak portion size is very generous but the meat quality is average...especially for the prices...expect to pay equivalent to a 4+ star steak restaurant. The flavor is good, not great. The side potato is overcooked, very small and very salty. The pepper jubilee is ok, but too salty. I didn't finish either. The service was slow, but ok. The family member history is fascinating and wonderful to see how the proprietor is taking care of his family! Unfortunately I wouldn't go back. It is very overpriced for what you are served. I've been here several times and try to visit whenever I am in the area - because it is a cool place. But the sad thing is - sometimes it's great, other times it's a bomb. This visit was a bomb day. The restaurant was out of a significant portion of the menu , at least 25%. Perhaps not their fault, tourist season and all - but to add insult to injury, there were multiple mistakes (steak overcooked, sides wrong, etc). The young lady serving us was...not diligent or accurate. I hate to say that, but it is what it is. A small (but very specific) example: she brought us a bottle of wine (they were out of what I actually wanted, of course) - and she handed us the corkscrew and walked away. This is a place that serves ESCARGOT, and you have to open your your own wine. So weird! No urgency or hustle at all - nor class. Total visit time was ... three hours? Ridiculous for a salad and an entree! And it wasn't busy at all when we were there. I had my steak remade and it was still overdone the second time (also took forever). Also was not as good as the restaurant's (former) reputation would suggest. I have finally decided that this is an pretentious dive. We absolutely love this spot! It's only open during the summer season and it's a treat to come here when we are in Montana once a year! Every place setting has a little history or information about the Blackfeet Nation, and the building is also decorated with Blackfeet art, photos, and stories. Love the food. This restaurant came recommended and is pretty strategically located right outside of the Many Glacier entrance of Glacier National Park. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the recommendation. My first star goes to the history of this business which was neat to learn about. The wait for a table was 15-20 minutes even though 2/3 of the tables were full. They definitely had a staffing issue but we were hungry hikers and food outside of national parks aren't always easy to come by so we waited patiently. The food was fine overall. Fine was the salad that came with our meals (spring mix with no other vegetables), homemade bread (hot but pretty bland), the half of a loaded baked potato and the overcooked vegetables. My tenderloin was sub par. They slather a sauce on top of the beef that's sweet and tangy. The inclusion of the sauce should be mentioned on the menu as a heads up and it wasn't. My tenderloin was also fatty and undercooked. Not worth the high prices. Our server Kristin gets the second star. She was sweet and helpful. There was also live music which was a plus, but not enough to render a third star. Appetizer: Salad was amazing. Honestly might have been one of the best salads I've ever tasted. Main entree: I ordered the Baroness steak with crab meat and baroness sauce. The onion and pepper side was great. And the famous Le Baron Potato was truly amazing. The crab meat was good, my only issue was the medium steak. The steak was very chewy, and seemed like half of it was fat. Couldn't eat half of it. Still a recommend though because my friend loved it so much and it seems very popular. Just had a very expensive dinner as the Cattle Baron 5 star prices do not match what you get for your money. In our party 3 ordered steaks medium well, they received charred exterior with raw centers. Sent back and received same steak now more charred even more. Potato was not split but was covered in ranch. Steak is a great meal...if you get a decent steak for your dollar. That is not here. It is out of the way to get there and the trip is not worth it. Great restaurant outside of GNP in Babb, MT. The food was great and the menu pictures are still current. You got a great cut of meat with sides, salad, and bread for less than ~$50, which you cannot find anywhere else (or at least I haven't). My fiancé got the filet and it was so tender he was able to cut it with a spoon. Our service was quick and wonderful. Could dress up or come as you are. I've been anticipating a return trip to Cattle Baron Supper Club since my first visit two years ago and I was totally and completely satisfied with everything! I treated my middle son and his lovely fiance, along with my youngest son, to dinner after a perfect day at Many Glacier and it was all I remembered. The steak of course was the star of the show, grass fed Montana beef, charcoal grilled to a perfect medium rare, a little rarer than usual but better than I remembed or deserved. The sides were awesome, especially the fresh, hot bread and sweet creamery butter. This is not a chain and is a unique once in a lifetime experience (twice if you're lucky). Plan on making an evening of it, sip a cocktail or two, relax, observe and enjoy! Our waitress was a gorgeous Blackfeet Princess and could not have been sweeter or more attentive. Best steak ever, great service, cool atmosphere, I could go on and on. I recommend the NY Strip and the filet, but everything is great. I was quite surprised to find this gem in the middle of nowhere while visiting the east side of Glacier. My wifi was not working at my campsite nearby and verizon service was non-existent so I tried this place without any research. Spoiler alert, I went twice in my two day stay over here. Most the reviews look pretty old so I'll refresh one here in July 2022. This review is for the steakhouse upstairs. With very limited options this seemed like the best place and it was pretty crowded on both visits, a Sunday and Monday evening. Visit 1- I got the fillet for $38, asked for it medium well and it came out medium rare. All good, it was delicious. The meal comes with a small baked potato, side salad, and a small mix of sautéed peppers and onions (oh and house bread). Visit 2- I got the same exact meal the second night except I asked for the steak to be cooked medium well. Came out perfect, and just as delicious as visit 1. Service was pretty good both nights, I definitely enjoyed both meals after adventuring in Glacier NP. So here are my takeaways- don't expect a 5 star meal in BFE. And order your steak a level or two above how you normally like it cooked. read more

OUT OF 8 PEOPLE.(counting myself) Even my family didn't get half the food we were supposed to. They didn't give us the right things, food came out late, some orders were wrong, the steak was raw, the vegetables were cold, everything was just horrible. Also, the bread is very sweet and so are the Shrimp Scampi noodles. Its a very expensive place.. So if you are willing to pay $100 for an undercooked steak, go ahead. In other words, this place sucks. The servers also showed no empathy or emotion after messing everything up. Sure they offered alcoholic beverages and ice cream, but not like it would fix anything. If you plan on coming with a party of 6 or more people, don't. For 3 people with one $28 meal taken off it was still $148. They take 20% gratuity.. Its also on Indian Land so good luck! Had a wonderful experience here last Wednesday. The best meal I had my entire trip. Coming out from many glaciers for sunset, I saw in the corner of my eyes how packed this place was. We decided to go in and take a chance. I am the type of person to look up reviews before going. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. They let us know that they were short handed, but I didn't mind it at all. I forget that I am in a small town and things are different. They did not have a cocktail menu, but were nice enough to make some drinks. The bartender downstairs was a joy to talk to and she recommended some dinner options. I find out that her grandparents owned the joint and it was family operated. Me and my party were soon moved upstairs to our table. Each home made meal is served with 100 year old bread recipe, a side salad with homemade dressing, side of veggies, an out of this world baked potato and choice of protein. I got Bob's specialty Rib eye and my bf got the Chicken dinner. The amount of food to the amount we paid for this meal was unmatched! Everything was soooo delicious for an out of this world price. We had to mention the the manager we were not being served. We waited an additional 45 minutes before receiving our drink order. We would have waited longer but we went to the bar to retrieve our drinks. Our food was served at 8:15 pm and most orders were cold and not very good. We finally left the restaurant at 9:00pm. This place was not well managed and very understaffed. We watched 4 tables get served, we've been here 20 -39 minutes before any of them sat down. We watched them get water, bread, even orders taken. We asked the hostess at least 3 times and she kept deferring to the waitress who just never showed up. Eventually we were watching a table seated 25 min after us getting served food. We finally get to place our order and get some bread and water. Rather quickly we get bread and a plate for the butter but no plate for us to put bread on. Salads come out and the oil and vinegar have no caps on the containers. Not sure what she did but a woman said it was family owned and the woman's uncle came to tell us they're short handed... even if you're short staffed you don't leave people sitting at a table while you're serving everyone around them. We conclude our meal and the bill is dropped at our table and not even an offering for dessert. Unfortunately there is not much else around so you're stuck with what you get. The food was fabulous! There were 17 family members eating last Thursday night. The wait staff did an extraordinary job getting all of our orders out at the same time and each steak perfectly done. I will never forget my visit to the Babb Cattle Baron Supper Club. Myself and three of my friends were backpacking in Glacier National Park and spent 5 days in the backcountry hiking the triple divide trail. After 5 days of dehydrated food we were ready for a steak and a shower. After setting up camp and taking showers at the St. Mary's KOA we asked some of the locals where we could get a steak and they sent us to Babb. We got there just before 5pm and there was a line. We assumed that there was a line because there was literally nothing else around, anywhere. This is a one horse town with two stores and a dog that fetches beer for its owner. We tried to enter the building and a local told is it didn't open until 5pm...and that if we were going for steaks it would be the best steak we've ever eaten. I laughed at this as did my buddies as we have backpacked in around 40 states together and sampled a lot of local foods. The interior of this place is decorated in Native American style, which is appropriate as it is on a reservation. We got a table upstairs halfway to the kitchen. All three of us ordered a 28ounce ribeye which came with roast potatoes, steamed vegetables, and some bread. I ordered mine medium rare and wasn't prepared for what I was about to eat....it literally was the best steak I've ever eaten in my entire life. My buddies agreed. The owner makes some type of special steak sauce that it's covered in, possibly cooked and marinated in as well. Cooked on an open flame on a grill. The meat is as fresh as you can imagine, in fact, the server told me they butcher the cows themselves before they open--that's fresh. We were all so shocked at how great the steak was that we decided to come back a couple days later and eat the same meal again...and just as we imagined, it was just as good as the first time. Usually I tip 20% for great service, 15% for good, and 10% for okay service. Considering this meal was around $25 we tipped around 400%. We decided that this really was the best steak in all of the US and so we tipped the chef $100 and the server $100. When you leave there is a guest book on the right, it's a spiral notebook hundreds of pages long. Open it, flip to any page and you'll see names and locations of people from all over the world and usually the same line over and over "best steak ever." We signed it and put down the same thing. The steak here is so good I would seriously consider buying a flight to Glacier for the weekend, drive the Going-to-the-sun Road, and then get dinner here at the Cattle Baron Supper Club--it's that good. Do yourself a favor and try it for yourself if you're in town, if you're visiting the park, or if you'r anywhere within a 3 hour drive of this place. Don't make the mistake of passing it by because it doesn't look like a good place to eat, once you try the steak, you will always make a trip here when visiting the local natural wonders. read more

Oh my goodness, this was the best steak I've had in a long time. The restaurant is disarming. It looks like a small roadhouse-style dive on the outside and is, in fact, an open, airy, and clean space on the inside. It's family owned and staffed. Each place mat is a laminated sheet that gives part of the family story. They offer all manner of food and for your first visit at least order steak. I had the Bob's Ribeye, seemed appropriate somehow, and it was delicious. It's a 16 oz portion and they emphasize the size by including a smallish baked potato. I didn't mind at all since it meant I could enjoy a few more bites of meat before giving up. There were seven of us and we all felt the same way. The service is friendly and helpful. The beer and wine selection is sufficient and the beer is cold. If you are in Babb or St Marys or Browning or Southwestern Canada then you need to visit here. read more

They even have a decent wine list. The interior is interesting, but fun interesting. We sat upstairs on an unusually slow night. Service was fine, she seemed a bit new, but she was sweet. I am all about experience, and everyone should check out the bathroom upstairs....one of them only has a curtain to provide privacy. I had the lobster, which was cooked very nicely. The sides are a bit strange, the potato was not my favorite, and the veggies were overcooked in my opinion. My partner had the chicken and really liked the sauce or seasoning or whatever was on it. The bread was good - a bit on the sweet side, but enjoyable. Overall, if you find yourself in this area, I say go here.
