The $18 southwestern salad is a sparse serving of iceberg lettuce with some shredded cheese, a couple slivers of tomato, and large chunks of chicken tucked into a stale taco shell. When I asked if I could sub a veggie burger for the chicken since I am vegetarian, I was told that the best they could do was leave off the chicken but make no substitution. There would've been some sad amount of lettuce left without the chicken, all for a poorly spent $18. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

I hope everyone will click on the negative reviews to this restaurant before deciding to go here because they really do treat their customers like everyone says...TERRIBLE!!! Our experience at Trapper's Mountain Grill in Waterton Canada was definitely one I'll remember, and it wasn't a good one! I have never been treated so rudely at a restaurant in all my life. My husband and I ordered a full rack of ribs with fries and asked the waitress if it was okay to sub sweet potato fries instead of regular fries, she said sure that's fine. When we got the bill there was like an extra five dollar charge for the sweet potato fries. When we mentioned it to the waitress she was sweet and said oh I'm sorry that was my fault for not mentioning an extra charge and I can probably just take that off the bill. When she went to ask the boss he told her NO. We mentioned it to him when we went up to pay and he said "IF YOU ATE IT, YOU PAY FOR IT"! His tone and demeanor was so rude, we couldn't believe it! He then proceeded to yell at my husband and say "HEY LISTEN BUDDY, DON'T RAISE YOUR VOICE AT ME"! We were dying because my husband did not raise his voice in the least and had just told him to go ahead and run his card. I came home and told my daughter about our experience there and she proceeded to look up the reviews on this restaurant and it's obvious that we were not the only customers that were treated so rudely. They obviously have terrible customer service and could care less about friendliness or returning customers. Their food was not good and the proportion size was extremely small for the high price you pay. Save yourself from a bad experience and go somewhere else! read more

So, who would expect amazing BBQ in a small resort town in Alberta CA, just across the USA border? Nobody. Well, you're in for an unexpected treat-fest. The brisket isn't even listed on the menu. You have to be a local to know it's offered. Small batch BBQ doesn't get better. Get there early enough and request the burnt ends before they sell-out. They are so moist and flavorful, you'll wonder why Steve - the chef and owner - isn't doing time in Memphis or Austin rather than Waterton Lakes. Oh, did I forget to mention the pork ribs. Lightly smoked, great crust, somewhere between fall off the rib but with a perfect pull. Wash all this down with an ice cold beer, and you've landed in some sort of barbeque heaven , in a very unlikely location. Treat yourself before Guy Fieri discovers this place. read more

Family owned business. We ate there for dinner. The Brisket was amazing! Steve is a pit master. My husband is a BBQ judge in Florida and he loved it. The brisket was juicy and flavorful. We loved the coleslaw. We also had the bison chili for lunch which was delicious. We had the homemade Saskatoon pie also to die for. If your in Waterton you need to eat here. If you have dogs then this is the place for you. We were traveling with our dogs and wanted a place that was dog friendly. We couldn't have asked for a better place. Trappers had cute cafe style tables outside and came out with water bowls for our dogs and treats. The food was great, service outstanding. The manager was so nice, she explained the Canadian money to me. They also have a cute gift shop attached to the restaurant. Loved everything about this experience. read more

Ate at Trappers Mountain Grill after a hike to Crypt Lake on a Tuesday evening. It was around 6pm and the restaurant was about half full, we were quickly seated and our drink order was taken almost immediately. I was with a group 5 and everyone ordered something different, I had the full rack of baby back ribs and I must say they were absolutely delicious this coming from someone who smokes ribs on a regular basis. The ribs with all of the sides was more than I could eat and I almost never leave anything on my plate. The others in my group had the lamb chop, the grilled chicken breast, ribs and wings, and fish and chips, all were very pleased with there meals. The service got a little slower as the restaurant filled to capacity but not to the point that it was a issue. Although a little pricey the portions make up for the amount spent especially for a tourist town. I would certainly eat here again and recommend it to anyone with a big appetite after a day of hiking here in Waterton. read more

This restaurant was ok. Definitely nothing special, and a bit pricey. Our meal was $64 for a burger, a brisket sandwich, a kid's grilled cheese and an appetizer. They advertise "Deep South favors"...this couldn't be further from the truth. I grew up in the south and anyone who goes here thinking they are getting a taste of the south, please know you are not! Go to Texas if you want BBQ and FLAVOR. My brisket was so bland, and it was very fatty. The staff was not rude, but not overly friendly either. There aren't many choices for restaurants in town, and this definitely isn't terrible food, but I do think they are very pricey and think they need to go south and take cooking lessons if they are going to advertise "Deep South flavor". read more

We had the best breakfast, the coffee was great and the service was great. Iam so glad we made the trip out to Waterton to have breakfast. The decor fits the image of the whole town definitely will be back out before they close for the season read more

Went as a family of 5 and was typical of a tourist town restaurant I've been to. The service was excellent and friendly but the food was drastically overpriced for the quality. The bill was $200+ CAD for standard burgers, chicken strips, and 3 beers. Without beer, it was easily still over $140 Most of sides were obviously frozen or pre-made. They also advertised flavors of the deep South but that really only means they serve beans and Coleslaw with most meals. read more

Came for supper after a long hike, plenty of options on the menu that sounded great. Settled on the ultimate meat pizza, even though I was a bit unsure of pizza given the lumberjack/backwoods decor. Visited this restaraunt twice this season, opening weekend and this past Fri., night and day! Opening weekend, relaxed, friendly service, very good food, even the prices seemed better. This past Fri., prices are high even by resort town standards, waiter seemed rushed, (asked for order before asking for drinks), food was.... adequate. I ordered the Sirloin, wife the t bone, jr. the pizza. came to $180+ a beer and tip. Wife liked her steak, mine came dry and overcooked and it wasn't a NY strip, just a round shaped, 5 inch thick lump with no marbling or fat. Which should be a crime here in Alberta. Food was tasty, but my sons $15 burger was far better value than my other sons $26 pot roast dinner (which was 2 pitiful pieces of roast not worthy of half that price). Left full, but ironically the more expensive dishes seemed to be lots of French fries, not so much on the main course side. They tacked on an 18% gratuity, though we had a table of 9 and it said it on the menu... Server was friendly and efficient. Lovely outdoor seating and good service even on patio. Smoked trout was delicious though beware they serve whole with head on eyes and all. The prices are a bit high but that appears to be par for this resort town. Meat done well and inventive garnishes. read more

Not really sure these people are into breakfast. Ate here in June 2014 for breakfast. Very cute place inside, but a little pricey for what you get. But, then again you have to pay for the decor! Service was weak and food wasn't as warm as it should have been. read more
