I wanted Hamachi sashimi and figured they could do it since they serve Hamachi nigiri, but they said they couldn't do it. Hmmm, seems weird since the only difference between sashimi and nigiri is that one doesn't have rice and the fish is cut larger. I should have questioned the legitimacy of the sushi at this place right then. They do serve large portions of edamame and seaweed salad though...you get way more of those items then you would at any other sushi joint. If you prefer philly rolls, then this is the spot. Went in for lunch, the all you can eat bar was full, but the rest of the restaurant empty. We take a table, order our drinks appetizer and sushi and wait. Over an hour later nobody comes to check on us, we never receive our sushi. Then when finally can't wait anymore, I tell the waiter we're leaving, she charges me for the appetizer and drinks and after I ask to tell the manager about my experience she says "there somewhere around here, I don't know" In the time we were there they sat three guests at the bar and served them. We went when they opened on a Sunday and there were only a couple other customers dining. The service was very prompt and delightful. The staff was all very nice and accommodating. I used to be a regular visitor of the Lacey location, but a lot has changed about the restaurant. Service is incredibly slow and management does nothing to change it. Yesterday, was a stark reminder of why I chose not to go back previously. I placed an order online and was informed that it would take about 1 hour. When I arrived a few minutes prior to the hour my food was not ready, nor was the restaurant full. I was told my food would be out in the next 5 minutes, which did not happen. In fact, it took almost 20 mins more before I got my SOGGY sushi. This place used to be fantastic, but it has really gone down hill. Trappers is my favorite sushi place in Lacey! The sushi is always good and their gyozas are yummy too. The service is fast and the girls are always nice. We usually get the same server but I haven't had the chance to ask for her name. My boyfriend and I always share 3 rolls because we usually come during happy hour, so they're 3 for $25! Surprisingly it's never busy during HH so we get seated once we walk in. It's about a 10 or 15 minute wait for the sushi, I would say that's not very long. Tonight was such a lovely evening! Our waitress was Mikayla, she was attentive, funny, and very sweet! My aunt can't have milk and Mikayla was happy to share with us that she can't have it either and detailed the things to stay away from and made some delicious recommendations that we ended up loving. Dining out with allergies can be stressful but we felt cared for like we were family. Food was prepared in a reasonable amount of time and our drinks were kept replenished the entire time. My only issue was that it was pretty chilly inside, but maybe that's just the AC being cranked for summer? We are excited to return with jackets and a bigger appetite next time! read more

I went here on a Saturday at 11:15 to try and get there early before the lunch rush for AYCE. I was first seated across from a chef who began making my Dragon roll. He ended up having to leave for his lunch break and said he was going to go home and let his dog out. The Head Chef took over my order. My dragon roll was really good. I got tempura veggies next but the batter wasn't cooked all the way through so the inside was sort of soggy and gross; so I didn't finish those. The next thing I had was Salmon and Tuna nigiri, the fish on these was excellent! Finally I got a rainbow roll; the "crab" pieces in these were really long and thick like they had been poorly and hastily shredded by hand? Not very good overall. At the end of my meal the chef who had left for lunch returned, I asked him "How was your dog?" The chef on his left said "It was delicious!" Which really stunned me. The chef I had asked didn't hear me so I repeated "How was your dog?" At which point the HEAD CHEF on the right of this chef said "The dog was delicious!" I usually love this place. Ordered my new favorite roll for pick up. I ordered three of them tonight. Not knowing that they closed right after I picked the order up, I got home and discovered that my rolls were not fresh. The tempera shrimp must have been left over and sat there all day. No crunch to it, the rice wasn't fresh either. It was not "amazing" like the title! I tried calling to see if the shrimp was even cooked (it really seemed like it was not tempera and regular shrimp) and then realized they were already closed. I will order again another time, just not right before they close! Just a tip-go earlier in the day-they should have fresh ummy sushi. NOT GLUTEN FREE. They have "gluten free" options on their menu, like, a whole specific "gluten free" section. I keep using quotations because it is absolutely NOT gluten free. My husband has a severe intolerance and within a few minutes of eating he felt the telltale sign of gluten poisoning. When I called to complain they took it off our bill but when I asked what happened they said they can't guarantee that the food is gluten free. This is not stated on the menu when they have a specific GF menu AND a box you can check for celiac. I assumed they would take it seriously because of the specific menu. They do not. Now we'll be dealing with the aftermath for over a week at least. If you have any food sensitivities or allergies, do NOT trust this place. Where's the fucking zero stars? ***UPDATE: Instead of refunding us the money for the "gluten free" teriyaki that wasn't at all gluten free, they charged us a SECOND time for the full bill, minus the not gluten free teriyaki. Normally it's not a big deal but I'm grabbing this on my lunch and now this is 2 times I will be late getting back to work. My daughter had heard great things about Trapper's when she lived in Seattle. Having recently relocated to Lacey, I was excited to give it a try. Yesterday, I wanted to celebrate my daughter's birthday, graduation, and the start of her Master's program with a wonderful dinner. I sat in the waiting area, watching customers come and go, Door Dash picking up orders, and at 6:45 the hostess apologized saying she had underestimated the time and my order hadn't been started yet. She assured me it would be next in line and about 15 minutes. First Question: why wouldn't you tell me sooner? Second Question: tables have turned since I have been here, this is not an underestimate of time but seems more like they forgot to place the order. Can you assure me it will be next up? Now, it is 7:10 and over an hour since I ordered. I am told that the order is almost ready. They are just waiting for the steaks to cook. WHAT??? Since when do steaks take 25 minutes to cook? And, what kind of shape is that sushi in that you told me was ready at 6:45? Finally, at 7:20, you say the order is ready. I ask that you double check to make sure everything is there. Oh, OOPS, missing an item. "We'll cook it right away". Right, while the steak sits another 10 minutes. No Thanks! In the end, I cancelled the missing item and took what there was. But, I suppose I should thank you for discounting my bill 25% while you still got tipped 20% on the original amount. During all of this, not once did a manager come speak to me. Not only was the food cold, steak overcooked and dry, and sushi soggy....you ruined our evening of celebration!! If you can't provide good service at a time when your customer counts are half what they normally are (re: Covid), I hesitate to think what it is when you are truly busy. read more

Worst sushi I've ever had. I've been to most of the local sushi restaurants and this by far is the worst. Soggy sushi, poorly seasoned rice, rolls falling apart, tempura batter not fried all the way, improper cooking of fish, the list could go on. The waitress was very nice and attentive. However, very expensive for the lack of quality of sushi. The kitchen staff claims to be "sushi chefs" as I heard them say over and over to themselves when in reality it is just a bunch of young kids who have no clue what cooking and sushi really is. I used to be a regular here back when they first opened up and things used to be very good. -10/10 As a fellow chef would not recommend anyone go here if you're looking for even decent sushi. This review is purely for the management. You Suck. I took my adult daughter out for dinner and both wanted sushi. When we arrived there were tables open, so not really full. We ordered our food and it took an hour and 20 minutes for two 6 piece rolls. The All You Can Eat counter had six people sitting at it and four sushi "chefs" making sure the counter sitting customers were getting their All You Can Eat. Our server was awesome and kept us updated. But it was poor management, period. Six tables around us, who were there before we came in waited even longer than we did. Two tables with children finally just left. Why was it taking so long? Why were the counter sitting customers being given better service than us regular folks? Why did the manager not visit each table and apologize for their piss poor management? Easy, they don't care! I will give my money to a more local place from now on. All customers are equal. Loved, loved, every single roll I ate. I only ordered two but I tried three others because we shared. This was one of the best sushi restaurants I have been to. I'm visiting from California and I will definitely be back when I come back to visit my daughter. It's a little pricey, $28 all you can eat for dinner, but it is well worth it. Hello. My name is Taetiana Morrison. I've been going to trappers since about 2015-2016 when there were limited locations such as 6th ave in Tacoma. Trappers is my favorite place and I've never had bad service here until I came to the Lacey location. It was my birthday on Oct. 15. I had a reservation set for 7pm. We arrived and were seated, immediately the waiter was stand offish. We are all black and she was of another race that Im not sure of, maybe Caucasian. I told her it was my birthday and as far as I know, trappers usually gives a free Mochi ice cream on birthdays. She just said "happy bday" that was it. I wasn't offered anything for my birthday. We placed our orders quickly, received all of our drinks quickly and proceeded to wait 50 minutes for our food. My friend was getting her "hot food" even before me and all I ordered was two sushi rolls. Although, her food was not hot at all. The waiter would have been notified had she been anywhere to be found. She only ever checked on us once around 8pm and we let her know the food was cold and she asked "why we didn't tell her" but that was the first time she had checked on us the entire we were there. We never got any refills and were not checked on. As I watched the table across from me continue to receive sushi roll after sushi roll, from the same waiter during the 50 minutes of me waiting for just my two -- I watched them receive about ...I want to say four or five sushi rolls. She was bringing them back plates with two rolls each during the entire 50 minutes that I waited for mine. The men at the table just so happened to be a set of two Caucasian men as well. I don't know if that's a coincidence or not I just wanted to add that in there. And once we got our sushi, my partners deep fried sushi that normally comes served warm was completely cold. I sought out trappers sushi to attend for my birthday because it's always been my favorite sushi restaurant. So I was very upset and very sad to see how I was being treated at this new location that I've never been to before. I just wanted to say thank you to that server who showed me the worst time I've ever had at any trappers sushi in my life I seriously could not believe that because it has never happened before I always get good service at trappers that's one of the reasons why I love trappers. Its sad really. I don't remember the servers name. I just know I was at the Lacey location being served from 7pm-8:30pm.
