It hurts my heart to leave negative reviews on any business especially an antique store, but the owner of this store is particularly abrasive and rude. My husband and I left our final stop of the day feeling unsettled and upset. I do my best to understand anyone's point of view and I try even harder to respect people's wishes. Straight off the bat he told us he doesn't like people rummaging through his things and not putting things back where they were. This I totally understand respect, these are HIS items that he has set up a particular way, there is nothing wrong with that. I tried on a ring and he gladly let me do so, or at least it seemed. As we were talking to him he found out that we were simply looking around, since we didn't have our wallets on us. His demeanor seemed to change after this and I could tell it bothered him that we weren't purchasing anything. When we had walked to the other side of the store, he followed us over there and while my husband began looking at more things, he basically told us "Like I said, if you're not going to buy anything I'd rather you just leave." This man is possibly the most unpleasant man I have ever stood inside the business of, in my entire life. I wasnt in the store for longer than 5 minutes before he came up to me and began telling me he didn't want people in his stores touching things things they don't want. I give this place a 5 star, because I like the spicy vibe of an owner/ operator (Steve) that has had enough, but keeps showing up. This shop is for people that know what they want & what they want to spend. No price tag? No problem. Start with what you think something is worth & wheel & deal. I understand the need for some to pick pieces up & inspect them for damage, but I only recommend doing that on something I plan on negotiating over. I also understand some people preferring a price tag & avoiding the negotiation process altogether, but there are literally dozens of shops in the area that operate that way & I suggest you go to them. When you shop here, you get the opportunity to negotiate & the owner (Steve) offers some great deals when bundling. People want to spend 50¢ on some rinky-dink item & have the retail worker at the register kiss their feet while ringing you up. My wife has a collection of vintage game consoles and frequently shops for older electronic items. She's wanted to check out this place since we moved here in 2019. Last week we finally went in; her first time, my second. She also collects vintage toys and first found bins of old McDonald's Happy Meal Toys. He wanted $3/each for these vintage but WELL-PLAYED WITH toys. Not willing to pay that much for the very used toys, she put them back into the same bin she found them in. Then, as we are looking through the electronic items, stored in heaps, piles, and crowded shelves, the proprietor, loudly and rudely tells us that we don't need to touch the items unless we're planning on buying them. She explains that she *is* interested in buying but needs to look at the items to determine if they are what she needs. The guy goes in again on how nothing should be touched unless you're buying it, that if he let everyone pick up the items his store would be a disaster, on and on. At this point I'm utterly appalled but my wife continues to try and explain she doesn't have to touch the items but that if she is going to buy them she needs to look at the connections available, specs, whatever. He just gets more rude. At this point my wife looks at me, I'm beyond ready to leave. She says to me that she's ready and doesn't care to continue shopping where someone speaks to their customers like that. The owner starts mumbling from behind the counter so I ask him what he was saying. He starts yelling at us not to ever come back in his store if we're going to use foul language--which no one had done. I tell him that no one has said anything foul but I didn't mind starting then. The kicker is that this guy has had the same crap in the windows since I've lived here and he was rude when I'd gone in the first time, several years before. He's not a businessman, he's a hoarder and a Richard. He's giving, "my family hates me and my kids don't talk to me but I don't know why" vibes. So, if you like to buy second, third, or fourth-hand junk for above-average prices and without being able to first inspection those items, while also being berated, this is the place for you. You aren't allowed to touch the merchandise unless you are "interested in buying" which the staff person will very tell at you about as he stalks you around the store. I'm curious to know what is this man's definition of that "interest" seeing as how I had full intent of buying the things I held in my hand. After leaving a particular spot in the store, the guy came up behind me WAY too quickly. He huffed and puffed as he moved the same two small tchotchkes around on the table over and over then scolded me about how hard he works to ensure that this store looks good and that if I didn't intend to buy I shouldn't touch. I did intend to buy... I had things in my hand that I was walking to the counter. Also, it's a second hand store not a glass museum. Anyway, I kept my cool and asked what the issue was, the things I didn't intend to buy that I'd picked up to look at, I'd put back. His complaint was that one of the items was slightly turned in a way that he had not placed it .... A random little thing on a table... in a store full to the brim with random little things.... Also nothing is priced. When you ask for a price, he'll huff and puff about that, too. He did it to my partner when he asked about the price of a jersey. He said he'd have to Google the value of the item before he could them him the price.... So my partner agreed to wait for that to happen but the man just walked away complaining instead. Nature of complaint: public safety/dog leash laws and customer service. Yesterday afternoon (4/12/25), I spent approximately 2 minutes in this business because of the owner's contempt for me and for the law. Of interest, I am a 5'3", modest, gentle, 50 year old woman. I walked in through the front door, peacefully on a search for thrift finds. I looked to the right and to the left, and I saw no humans. Walked up to a wall of things and in a matter of seconds a large german shepherd dog abruptly darted toward me and up to my body, which I caught in my peripheral eye sight. I squealed in fearful stress, and then I saw a man walk past me. I was stunned at his lack of concern, and that no one was claiming this unleashed dog. I told the man I'm scared, and he punitively scoffed, Well you scared him first! I felt so insulted and bullied. In fearful shock I weakly said, Your dog should be on a leash. Now the man angrily said, NO I DON'T NEED TO HAVE A LEASH! I somehow mustered courage to say, I am the human here (as if to stress that there are leash laws for human safety, and there is human decency as opposed to contempt). The man then yelled, I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT, THIS IS MY STORE, I'M THE OWNER AND I DON'T NEED MY DOG ON A LEASH, AND I DON'T WANT TO SERVE YOU IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT! IN FACT, YOU CAN LEAVE! I was nearly in tears as I stood frozen for a couple more seconds, and then I immediately left. If you have ever been attacked by a leashless dog, you should understand that after leaving the store it took some time for my nervous system to regulate back to safe mode. Another disgusting thing about this is that there was another man beside him as he bullied me, who did not speak in my defense or in defense of the law. I'm here to impress that this business owner must abide by state and county dog laws, and he owes me and the community a personal apology. I used to stop in here regularly and loved the place. It was PACKED with stuff, very cluttered, but worth a real search for treasures that were never over priced. Then one day I parked in back, hurried inside, and the clutter was cleaned up, entire areas of oddities had been completely removed, and it simply no longer seemed like the same shop. The somewhat better order of things might have greater appeal for some. But the experience, such as it remained, was soon to be shattered. Looking intensely for a pity-purchase I found two rather nice tealight candle holders. Nothing tremendous but I liked them. Drat, no price on them. I asked the guy I'd never seen, but who seemed now to be the owner, how much for the tiny candle holders. He said, "Oh! Those are very rare!" No they weren't. He said he'd have to look them up, by which I think he meant see what ebayers charge for such things they find at St Vinnies for 50 cents or the goodwill for a dollar and then reprice at fifteen dollars never to be sold. I have things arranged in a specific way blah blah blah" (Uh... you mean like ANY store owner does in their store?), as if his shop is something waaaaaay different than others. A few reviews on google defend this behavior because "it's not a garage sale, it's not the Goodwill," but picking things up to look at them is what you do in a STORE. Come on now. Let's be honest about the situation: At the end of the day, the owner enjoys stalking and confronting customers so he can wield some sort of nerdy authority over them. If this weren't the case, he'd just put a "no touching" sign on the door and call it good. Clearly he's battling some demons, and I do feel a little bad for him (in general I tend to like gruff and curmudgeon-y people!). But for those passing through Bremerton, I cannot recommend Trash & Treasures unless you are interested in poking a bear.
