This was one of the better meals we have had in Rome in quite a while. We are foodies and we have visited some excellent restaurants in Rome, other locations in Italy, France and Spain over the years. First the room was a beautiful collection of semi circular booths and tables under a painted ceiling making it both elegant and comfortable. Easy to have a conversation without raising your voice at the table. The room had 10-13 tables and serviced by a full complement of waiters who were both efficient and unobtrusive. Each also had personality dedicated to making the guest comfortable and intrigued. We found the service impeccable: seated immediately after being welcomed, asked for water and allowed time to get comfortable. Water and wine glasses filled and refilled without asking, plates served hot, tables closely watched for needs. The food was excellent and timed to the table perfectly. We began with a burrata and anchovies antipasto, tuna tartare to die for and a potato and caviar my wife loved. All well executed and delicious. The secundo/entree was pasta for each of us: à la vongole; pesce misto; and an octopus pasta that stole the show. All very well done, hot and perfectly al' dente. For dessert I had an excellent zbaglione, my wife a visually beautiful and tasty selection of sorbets in their shells; and my friend ripe fresh fruits. Each cleaned the palate for each of us. It was one of those meals where conversation stopped with each serving as we dived in and savored each morsel. Nice wine list and reasonable prices. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Romans don't ask the front desk where to eat. You should't either. That is, unless you enjoy being pandered to as a tourist. Just walk around. Look at menus. Check out the inside of the place. Assess the staff (fake friendly or truly welcoming). Eating at Antonios was the highlight of our eating in Rome. The food was elaborate and delicious. The service was not too fast, not too slow, not too attentive, not too absent. It was just right. And the atmosphere was elegant yet casual. The restaurant is located in an alley next to the pantheon, so the location is just perfect. It looks nicer than the some of the restaurants near it for sure. however, the food didn't stand out, and their service was just horrible. Came here on the recommendation of my boyfriend's coworker whose best friend lives in Rome.... she's been here quite a few times and she said "get EVERYTHING!" This place did not disappoint! Starting with the house red, a perfect light red with a great balance in flavor. It paired well with our entire meal! The level of hospitality was unreal- the two sisters that were running the place were so sweet, funny and generous! The complimentary table bread was out of this world good and the they just gave us a plate of hand-cut Prosciutto. Wow! Just perfect!!! We ordered the fried artichoke appetizer- it was really good, and very interesting. I've never had an entire fried artichoke, it was like eating chips! And of course the stem and the heart are the best part, I added a little balsamic vinegar to mine to cut through the oil. We ordered three pasta dishes... because... when in Rome.... The Cacio de Pepe was great (and I'm not a huge pepper fan), the lasagna was out of this world with an incredible sauce!!!! And the Bucatini Amatriciana was just SO! DAMN! GOOD! Oh man, this was really bad and I hope you don't make the same mistake that we did by eating here. We saw this restaurant when walking around and checked the reviews, which were overwhelmingly positive in here and another travel site so thought we'd give it a go. In short, we didn't even stay to finish our wine and picked up a pizza to go on the way to our hotel. More details below. When we arrived, it was pretty busy but we were seated right away. It took a while to have our order taken, but that didn't seem out of the ordinary. When the main waiter came by with menus shortly thereafter, that should have been our first sign to leave. They plopped down our wine, then came back about five minutes later to open it for us. We had to pour it ourselves. The salumi e formaggi plate was large hunks of Parmesan and the ends of a few different meats. Our mains were just... sad. My spaghetti alla carbonara was literally bacon fat, loads of butter and scrambled eggs. His "homemade" pasta maybe was fresh a few months ago. First off, I realize that the picture is of an empty plate, but I can explain. On our 4th day in Rome, we came across Trattoria Antonio after making a visit at dusk to the Pantheon. We actually sought it out after reading previous Yelp reviews. It stands out because it's the restaurant that doesn't have people in the street trying to herd you in. We walked in and had to ask for a table. Although there was nothing available outside, luckily there were a couple open inside the restaurant. And while we missed the "street scene", the dinner was well worth it. We were greeted by the owner with a glass of Prosecco as we surveyed the menu. My wife chose the Tonarelli Cacio e Pepe and I had the Bolgnese. Now the reason for the picture....Our plates arrived steaming hot and looked gorgeous! We both dove in without even thinking about a picture. Her Cacio e Pepe had a subtle pepper flavor that was fantastic and the creaminess of the sauce was so well executed. My Bolognese had a depth to the sauce that was the best I've had. We each kept going by back and forth between our plates and we're literally mopping up the rest of the sauce before we realized we hadn't taken a picture. We finished our meal with a couple glasses of limoncello, compliments of the owner. Dinner and a bottle of wine was less than 60 Euro! I would have gladly paid twice that. So, you can either try to visualize the dish or walk past the other restaurants trying to lure you in and go to Trattoria Antonio for what will be a meal you will remember. No barkers as I call them telling you to eat here. This place doesn't have that. The food was amazingly fresh and the wine was fantastic. Service was fantastic like most places in Italy. The place has character but the food was average. We were guilted in to giving to a peddler in the middle of our meal. The pasta is freshly made and is very good but the meats were just ok. So maybe it depended on what you ordered. I got sheets of pasta with artichoke that was fab. But others got boar with pasta, too rich. Lasagna, I thought it was just ok but person eating loved it. We had been recommended to come here and when we arrived they had just closed until Dinner would start in a few hours. We asked them where they would recommend we go after their own restaurant as we had kids that needed to eat. They were so kind and decided to invite us back in and accommodate us despite having just closed. This family is so wonderful and we were able to hear some of their story as we ate their delicious food! We all had different dishes and none of us were disappointed. They also treated us to Limoncello and tiramisu after our meal was over. We loved getting to not only eat a delicious meal but also learn that this is a family run business for now several generations. I have been to Trattoria Antonia (a few shops down from the Pantheon) about five times, and make it a point to get there every time I'm in Rome. In general the food is very good for reasonable (for europe) prices. The artichoke flower salad; and wild boar pasta were the best items I've had. I'm only knocking it down a star because the veal scallopini was in an overly syrupy lemon sauce. Stay away from that one and you'll have a great meal! read more

We were staying right in the middle of the Pantheon and came here for dinner. Definitely a family owned restaurant. Their portions are huge! We got the cacio e pepe and the carbonara. It felt like I was visiting a friend's house and their mom was making me a huge helping for dinner. I have to say I am obsessed with carbonara right now and just think about theirs all the time. I loved the egginess of their carbonara, vs a lot I've tried are just too cheesy. Also there was something super addicting about the tiramisu. It was actually very light. This is absolutely a tourist trap. We ordered an over cooked and under seasoned artichoke, a terrible salad with random bits of mushy mushroom (I also suspect it was from a can) with tons of oil and a horrible, horrible "pasta" dish which was over cooked, swimming in pasta water/cheese water. We stumbled upon this place after going on a tour. The prices were very reasonable and the food was pretty good. They brought us a complimentary glass of white wine to start, which was nice. We had the caprese salad, spaghetti Bolognese, steak, and pork chops. The spaghetti dish was humongous- they were nice enough to split the dish into two plates for us without us asking, and the portion for each was enough to be our dinner! We finished with a complimentary glass of limoncello. Overall, the experience was nice. Service was a little slow, bc they got sat multiple times at once, but our server was very nice. Spoke Italian, English, and French, to accomodate as many people as he could. Him and who I'm assuming was Antonio even brought an inside table outdoors to give new patrons a nice outdoor spot. I think this place has decided to cater mainly to tourists (like myself), and they're operating on the assumption that most of these people won't know the difference when it comes to quality of food and preparation. I ordered abbacchio scottadito con patate (grilled lamb chops with potatoes). No exaggeration - it consisted entirely of fat, with literally no meat at all. I am American, but my family is originally from a culture where we eat a LOT of lamb; cooked, raw, the meat, the brains, I've had it all....this truly was a disgrace. Best part - it cost 18 euros.
