We got drawn in here by a guy out front passing out cards to the restaurant. My girlfriend is gluten sensitive and they advertise gluten free options. We were not disappointed and my girlfriend finally got some Italian gluten free pizza while in Italy so we all left happy.

The first place we stopped at when in Venice because we were thirsty and it ended up being a place we had a few appetizers and plenty of drinks. We ate in a small courtyard where we had plenty of shade to keep us cool. We had the house antipasto and some caprese with garlic bread. The food was delicious. What a way to start, the portion was plentiful. I wasn't a fan of the garlic bread because it just didn't seem to have any garlic but overall it was great and the beer was cold. The ambiance was perfect under the shaded canopy and although it was small it did not feel cramped. If you want a meal off the beaten path, definitely check this place out.

We randomly picked this place to eat. We were very pleasantly surprised! We got their special 3-course meal for 15 euros. It we had the spaghetti with seafood.. delicious! The fish in tomato sauce and capers.. tasty! The fried calamari (rubbery but everything else we ate made up for it).. and the mixed salad. It was good too.

Place was nice for lunch. Has an atrium with plenty of shade to eat comfortably. I do recommend this place. Food is rich and tasty.

Review Highlights - Trattoria da Gigi

The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and peaceful, the service exemplary, and the food as good as anything we tried in Venice.

Venice is an expensive city and a lot of the seated meals can be expensive, subpar or both…read more Therefore in order to eat well on a budget it is suggested to eat at cicchetti bars (bacari), the Venetian equivalent on tapas. Most cicchetti are priced between €1-€3, which is consumed with alcohol priced from €2-€4. You can eat your cicchetti at one bacaro or make a crawl by traveling to several. As suggested by Rick Steves, one of his tour guides Alessandro Schezzini specializes in a cicchetti crawl. This was the first stop in his crawl as well as my first real meal in Venice (I had arrived from the US that morning). Turns out that there's two parts to this bacaro: the bar area where people drink and a back area where people can eat cicchetti or full meals. Since we were a big group we first started at the back tables where we were introduced to four cicchetti. - Calamari: fresh off the fryer, you can taste the freshness of the squid. Squid was not rubbery at all. - Sardine on top of an egg. My favorite cicchetti. Alessandro encouraged people to try to eat out of their comfort zone. - Rosemary potatoes: for any vegetarians of the group. - Deep fried fritter with meat (arancini?) All was served with flowing pitchers of house red wine, which Alessandro kept track of and poured as our glasses were approaching empty. It was also quite easy to get full out of fried food and wine. This bacaro is hidden somewhere near the Rialto so use Google Maps to find it.

Cozy looking. Downhill from there. Polite waiter. Ordered cold meat plate of Mortadella and salamis…read moreand a cheese. Poorly cut and of average quality at best. Pitcher of house Prosecco: this is a mixer prosecco not a sipping one. Salad Mista was adequate but served with packets of vinegar and of oil: like a take out place. Asked if we liked the meal, we said no. No remedy from the waiter. Paid and left. Obvious tourist trap. Upon leaving, two walking tours ended and were directed to eat here. YUK!
