    Zucchini in mint
    Pam S.

We had dinner here after an amazing gondola ride through some of the backstreet and then onto the Grand Canal. This was one of the top rated restaurants near us, and we are so glad we tried it. We sat at a table overlooking the canal. I ordered the pumpkin balls in Gorgonzola and marinara sauce and the zucchini with mint and olive oil. It was so yummy and so filling. My husband ordered the filet in pepper sauce. Our waiter Sebastino was tremendous. So attentive with great suggestions. Highly recommended.

Perfect place for sunset canal views and delicious food! The zucchini fish was probably hands down the best dish I had in Italy! The seafood with bruschetta was also so flavorful and 100% worth the price. All of the seafood tasted so fresh, and we even considered going back a second time the next day. Shoutout to our waiter, Floris, who was fabulous!

This was our choice for dinner. We had reservations at 9 but walked up around 8:35pm and got a beautiful table right along the water. I had the sea bass with roasted potatoes, capers, and veggies. Husband had the braised beef. We also got a side of roasted potatoes. Our dinners were delicious. The portions of our main meals were generous but not obscene. The side of roasted potatoes were plentiful. Service was excellent. We never felt rush nor did we have to flag people down. There was a couple next to us that had just gotten married. The server brought a wine bucket full of water for the bride's bouquet as well as two glasses for a complementary Champagne toast. I thought that was such a nice touch for them on their special day. Great experience.

We loved having dinner here. Excellent service and we loved all the food. Tried several appetizers but the wasabi shrimp was my favorite. And the seafood macaroni--so good! Recommend the zucchini as a side, was my favorite of our trip.

Ravioli. Tasted better compared to the lobster linguine =\

If you want horrible service and horrible food you've come to the right place. Service is shit . By the time we were seated it took 25-30 minutes just to have our drinks served to us. I was literally dying of a bad cough and everyone next to us was smoking away.. and I still didn't have water. To make it worse this place supposedly has good reviews. Either people don't know what good food is or they're used to eating shitty good but 3 $$$ for the food and service is astounding. I also asked for margarita and I asked if they can please put salt on the rim and our waiter assured us and said " Well of course it's a margarita". Surely enough after 30 minutes they come with Margarita with no salt. -__- drank it anyway b/c I didn't want to have it served by the end of dinner . What really put me at the tip of the iceberg was when they brought out the lobster linguine and the noodles were super hard. Our waiter said they're supposed to "be like that ". He brought it back to the kitchen and when they brought it back out it tasted exactly the same. So regret eating here . 35 Euros is a little too steep for a dish that was mediocre. I was starving all day and eating mediocre food and having horrible service is the worst way to end my last day in Venice. All I can say is if you're a tourist and want to eat good food, look elsewhere. The high ratings is such a lie. But then again if you don't mind spending $$$ then bon appetit.

High quality dining experience with gorgeous view. Claudio is a super nice man and a complete professional. This restaurant was so good we dined there for lunch then came back again for dinner. We should have made a reservation as they were fully booked for dinner but Claudio who served us at lunch arranged for us to have a beautiful table for dinner. Keep in mind there are so many restaurant choices in Venice and for us to dine there twice on the same day says a lot about the experience, ambience and food.

    Tempura muscles

We had a wonderful evening at La Porta. Samwel was our waiter and even with us being tourists, he made us feel right at home. It was a busy night and he could have easily rushed us, but he explained the menu and gave several recommendations. For a starter, we shared the muscle tempura. The marinara sauce was delicious and the muscles were just enough to start off the meal. We followed that with our first course of linguini with mixed grilled seafood. You could taste the fresh saltiness of the fish in every bite and the pasta was some of the best I've had so far in Italy. For our main we had the fried mixed fish platter and the fish of the day w/ cherry tomatoes, olives and capers. The fried platter was cooked to perfection with a variety of fish and sizes. It wasn't over fried either, it was golden brown. I highly recommends La Porta for an amazing dining experience!

Tl;dr don't eat here. Negative stars If I could. The high ratings are definitely from starry eyed tourists. Details: We should have known from the beginning it was a bad choice. Initial conversation: Us: we'd like a table for 4. Waiter: Do you have a reservation? Us: No. Waiter: well, then have a good day. Wtf. So we walked out. We're on the street when waiter runs after us to say our table is ready. Uh, okay then. It was beautiful decorative glass everywhere inside and lots of diners compared to everywhere else we'd walked past. Menu looked good, why not right? They walked us to a table with a "reserved" placard and told us to sit. "Isn't this reserved?" Oh that's okay they say. Weirdness. Ordered tasting appetizer, grilled octopus appetizer, fish soup, calamarata (seafood macaroni), mixed fried fish, and a clam noodle. First thing we noticed was an unending bell ringing. A light sound like someone was summoning a butler. It was the kitchen summoning staff to go pick up ready meals. The "Kitchen Nightmares" tv show has taught me this is a bad sign, right? Heh. It was distracting throughout our meal. Enough to interrupt conversation. Nothing we ordered came out hot. All lukewarm. Flavors were fine. Fish mostly deboned properly. Textures fine. They neglected to mention the "sea bass" catch of the day in the soup was really Chilean toothfish, a significantly lower quality, usually absolutely disgusting choice of fish compared to ocean sea bass. I'm always hurt when waiters try to pass toothfish off as sea bass. YMMV. After main course came out, the waiter came by twice, then ghosted us for the rest of night. I was so thirsty. Wanted more water. Signaled to come over by raising hand like school children. Got the nod across the room, but no one came back. The 4 waiters found plenty of time to chat to each other though, walking slowly through the not-so-busy room. There was some salt covered flaming meat thing being shown to a nearby table (before carving I guess). As the waiter walked back to the kitchen with it on fire, the manager playfully blew on the flames. Ew gross. Spittle anyone? Our first diner finished eating and her dirty dish sat on the table the longest (last plate cleared many minutes after all the other ones). Indeed after the last diner finished (20min later), it took 20 more minutes to have any plate cleared. As our table was finally completely cleared, we asked for the check. We signaled 4 times over 20 min for the check. Plenty of tables around us got their checks. Contemplated if service would be faster if we all stood up and put on coats. All 4 waiters disappeared for 5 min. Yes, we started timing everything on our phones. This was double the meal price of all our meals in Italy and the worst. Ruinous end to my birthday. Feb 2020 is beginning of coronavirus fears and Italian racism towards Asians (see BBC, WSJ, NYT and many other articles). We couldn't help but wonder if it was our race causing bad service because we hadn't done anything to warrant the waiters' behaviors. An entire 7 days of prior Italian travel this trip and this meal was the only like this. Just don't eat here. Admire its (admittedly amazing) interior decorating from the street.

One of my favorite meals of our entire trip. We ate here for lunch and had an amazing meal along the water. Everything tasted fresh and had great flavors. My favorite was the grilled octopus.

Dessert - berries made in a variety of ways - mousse, sorbet, iced, etc.

Best meal we had in Venice! The octopus appetizer and the sea bass ravioli were both incredible. They also had a very nice wine selection.

Once inside they have a couple tables with small window views of any gondolas passing by. We started off with a plate of lightly fried sardines topped with pickled white onions. The fry on the fish was super light and those vinegar-y onions were the perfect pairing. We cleaned that plate. The lasagna was well balanced with the meat, sauce, cheese. The squid ink pasta was chewy/al dente with a subtle touch of seafood flavors giving the cuttlefish. It was very umami but nothing too overbearing. Delicious! The jovial mood with the waiters with big personalities is gone. The menu you can find online is no longer available so you get a very limited menu to choose from--nearly entirely seafood. So if you have anyone in your party that just wants pasta with a red meat sauce or a non seafood lasagne, not available. We were a party of 8. Two people ordered the scallop appetizers. Pretty presentation on shells. 3 tiny scallops in the shells. More like an amuse bouche. Totally disappointing. The linguine with clams as an entree had clams so small you almost needed a magnifying glass to see them. Couldn't taste the clams and annoying to try to eat something so tiny , and just try to eat the pasta with all those tiny shells. The baby shrimp on polenta was actually good. But again the shrimp were like tiny hatchlings tempura battered. Tasted okay except for those that were soggy from the polenta that was very soupy. I wanted the gnocchi with crab which was on the very limited menu but no longer available. The alternative was gnocchi with a sea bass sauce which I chose but didn't like at all. The gnocchi were good but the sauce wasn't at all for me. We had to continue to ask for side dishes for the bread, butter, olive oil, salt and pepper. We will not return. Poor value for your money. Plus there is a cover charge and service included in your bill which was a surprise. Very sad to see our favorite Venetian restaurant decline so much.

So we came here for an early dinner (around 5pm), kitchen is open through! Took a nice table inside by the window. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. Staff/owner very friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome here. Inside it's a nice, cosy atmosphere. Good selection of wine on the menu as well. For all kinds of budgets. And at the counter a nice display of all kinds of seafood. Lovely place. We've ordered the Crudo di Mare plate and Spaghetti Vongole. And a .375ml bottle of their white house wine, which turned out to be a good pairing with the seafood. Both dishes were excellent! Plenty of Vongole (clams) in the pasta dish, Spaghetti were perfectly cooked. Vongole were nice and fresh and the dish perfectly spiced (not too much, which is good). A real highlight definitely the Crudo di Mare. Two langoustines (so nice and sweet flavour), two red shrimp. scallops, tuna, swordfish, oysters and tuna tartare. All fresh, all tasty. An excellent mix of wonderful fish and seafood. Quality wise along on top with the best ones we've had so far (we love Crudo di Mare). And all is nicely presented. Really made our day, this meal here. After the meal we even got some aperitif on the house. A wonderful place. Feels very relaxed, lots of great items on the menu. And really fair prices, this is a real gem here with great value. And we will definitely be back next time in Venice. Highly recommended!
