I've tried to find similar at "authentic" pizzerias in LA and have been sorely disappointed. Even had two other pizzas in Italy, both of which were very good and the same types of pie, but we still found ourselves saying "not as amazing as the one in Santa Croce." We had the Diavolo. Do yourself a favor and do the same. Or don't...otherwise you'll be haunted by it for the rest of your days! I want to add that because it was right across from Santa Croce, we were especially skeptical that it would be serviceable tourist food, and went somewhat reluctantly out of intense hunger. We decided to try the seafood tasting menu which included 2 appetizers, 2 pastas, 1 main course, 1 dessert of your choice, and coffee and water. Price was set at 70 euros/person (minimum of 2 orders). They also had a non-seafood option for 60 euros (I think), but we weren't as interested in that tasting menu since it included duck, liver, and veal. Out of our seafood tasting menu, our favorites were the shrimp and white bean appetizer, the seafood risotto (so good!), and the sea bass with grilled vegetables. They also have an interesting new deal, since you can buy the products you eat, directly in the restaurant. The selection is wide: cured meats, the famous steak, home made jams, Tuscan cheese, jellies, durum wheat pasta, tomatoes, pickled veggies, olives, paté and of course wines and liquors. From the menu, we started with the black tagliolini pasta (made with cuttlefish ink) in a clam and zucchini cream sauce and topped with shaved bonito (smoked tuna). The tagliolini noodles weren't as al dente as I would've liked, but the light clam sauce and the bonito flakes made this a tasty dish. The piatto del giorno (dish of the day) was the one worth coming for--it came with four pieces of tender, meaty grilled octopus tentacles, along with a dark, umami oyster sauce and an airy, creamy parsnip foam, which added a nice acidity to the dish.
