My airline refunded the flight. Hotel would have but booked through travel Agent. She tried to have me pay more the 2nd time due to a different month. I had to have the hotel email them saying there was no additional costs than they rescheduled. They never returned my phone calls when they found I wanted to cancel. Hi Suzanne, Many thanks to Suzanne for the recommendation and trip plan for my family's recent trip to El Dorado Royale in Riviera Maya. We had a great trip and really liked the resort. Specifically, we liked the style of the low profile smaller capacity buildings. We were in building 41 with rooms and balconies with an ocean view, which was beautiful. Suzanne made specific recommendations based on her recent experience and we definitely appreciated those. Wine Kitchen was our favorite restaurant by far and I went with her short rib reco and didn't regret it. They also had the best cocktails in the resort. Although the Espresso and Chocolate martinis at the Martini Bar were a close second. At Fuentes, we split 2 wine flights, again based on Suzanne's recommendation, and we were really glad we did. The wine flights were so much a part of the show, but would have been too much for one person. The food and service were good in general - great in some places and a bit underwhelming in others. Same thought applies to their handling of my daughter's gluten free diet. Some restaurants and staff were knowledgeable and others not so much. We did the Mexican Fiesta and nothing was labelled with GF or other dietary information. Concierge was mostly good with a few misses. We loved the Health Bar and the small pool near there was our favorite. I was a little leary going in about possible "spring breaK' atmosphere, but there was really none of that. We laughed that the party pool was really very subdued, although the music got louder as the day went on and as we got close to the weekend. We all got massages and though they are pricy, we all agreed they were excellent. Plus I just loved getting my massage ocean side with the breeze. We would highly recommend Suzanne and Travel By Jen and this resort to others with the only note being to double check the requests and reservations made by the concierge. read more

I have booked through Travelzoo before, but this has been the biggest nightmare dealing with Travel by Jen. I have been to Costa Rica several times and have never had this type of issues. FIRST: The rental car company I had paid for did not show up the first time I called, they didn't show up the 2nd time I called them, and the 3rd time I called, I was told (by a different person) I had never called yet! I was at the airport wondering what to do and was helped by a gentleman who talked with the rental car agency and then got me another vehicle. SECOND: The 2nd hotel we were to stay in was pathetic. There was algae all over the walkways....I know, it's a jungle, but not safe for people when they are sliding into their vacation door. The parking lot was a mudhole, which we had to get out at night, without lights to view the path, and drag out suitcases through the same. When I returned, I contacted the representative and I have been "providing more info"...."I'm sorry, I'll follow up and get back to you", which they still have not. All I wanted was a reimbursement on the hotel and the rental car. I can't even get a response! read more

I booked a trip with Travel by Jen through a promotion I saw on TravelZoo. We just got back from that trip a few days ago. Before I booked, my mother looked up the reviews of Travel by Jen and tried to talk me out of working with them because of the negative things she read. I tried to assure her that TravelZoo must somehow vet the companies they promote and how I had booked a previous TravelZoo deal that was amazing. She still thought I shouldn't do it. Obviously I didn't listen. I promised myself I would write a review for them regardless of how the trip went. I'm happy to report that we had an amazing time. Our rep was Samantha and we were very happy with her. She put together a great itinerary for us in Costa Rica. Each of the three resorts they booked us in (Eco Arenal, Si Como No and Villa Blanca) were very nice. All solid four star places. We could have paid to upgrade to five star places but figured we wouldn't be at the rooms much and I think that was the best call because these three were more than fine. And the staff at each were some of the nicest people we ever met. We really lucked out at Villa Blanca where we were the only guests at the whole resort! They asked us the night before what we wanted for Thanksgiving and let us totally create our own menu (we picked a Caesar salad, seafood bisque and ribeyes!). The chefs at that place are amazing. And we loved our bartender, Mario. The dude climbs up trees to get the fruit that he uses to make in his drinks. That's a serious commitment to his craft. Overall, let me give my opinion of all the reviews I read and then give you a summary. Apparently most of the people that seem to be upset are so because of changes they needed to make with their itinerary or due to issues with the airline. If you don't have to reschedule anything you will be totally fine. I guess during Covid times it's a little hard to predict when a reschedule might be needed. As long as you can travel on the dates you originally book I think you can feel very safe about everything. Our experience with both Travel by Jen and Sam were great. I met one guy at the Eco Arenal that has been booking with them for over 15 years and only had one marginally bad experience and all the rest were extremely positive. He swears by them. No company is perfect and I'm sure that Travel by Jen is no exception. I don't want to belittle the reasons some people have written negatively about them. People usually only take the time to write a review if they have strong feelings, one way or another. Getting any follow up service at this place is very difficult. I was told I would get confirmation for my hotel and Car rental 2 weeks prior to my trip. Still don't have confirmation and I leave down in 2 days. No one responds and it says leave a message and an agent will get back to me, but it doesn't take a message, it just loops back to the greeting. UGggh, a horrible way to start a vacation assuming they've actually booked my trip. Update: I finally was able to get a response from the company. The trip was legit, so that was good. We had a good trip overall. The hotels we stayed at were on the economy side of things, definitely not resorts, but that wasn't a surprise given the pricing. I actually liked our first hotel a lot, it was very quaint, although we did have our computer stolen out of our room on the first day. But overall a trip is what you make of it, and at least the airfare, rental car, and hotels were legit. read more

My agent, Tim, made the process seamless and I honestly felt like he had my best interest in mind. He was upfront with cost and help me plan an amazing getaway within my budget. We even had one challenge that later came up with the stay but Tim was on top of the situation. He provided excellent communication and solutions to our problem. What a terrible and deceptive agency. I booked a trip to Costa Rica over the phone, but called back that same day to cancel the trip due the availability of requested hotels. In lieu of refunding the full amount of my payment as outlined in the terms and conditions set forth on the Travelzoo promotional material, they offered to refund 75% and issue the remaining 25% as a future travel voucher. At the time, I figured that I would be able to use the travel voucher without issue so I verbally agreed not to dispute the failure to provide a full refund. At no time was I advised that the travel voucher had an expiration date. Fast forward to now when I call them to use the voucher, I'm told that the voucher expired so I'm SOL. read more

This was a last minute vacation for my husband and I celebrating our 8th Anniversary. I spoke Sue Dibenedetto was great! She helped me organize everything in a day! We had a great time from Fortuna with our gorgeous Volcano views to our beach stay in Playa Hermosa. We had a fabulous time at a wonderful price! Who wants to go to Florida at these prices! We ziplined, horseback road in the rain forest and repelled in the jungles of Costa Rica! Priceless memories. We scheduling the excursions before we left through Sue was much cheaper than waiting to do in Costa Rica. I just had such an unpleasant customer service experience which is what prompted me to look at travelbyjen reviews. GLAD I NEVER BOOKED! All the agent (Samantha Sloane) did was throw one bad suggestion after another. None of her recommendations came close to meeting our criteria. I had the impression all she was doing was pushing resorts that she was going to get the best commission from. I asked point blank, "what are the benefits of working with your company"? We booked our trip to Costa Rica with these people. We ended up on flights where we didn't even get to sit together. They made the reservation months before we went, so there's no reason that our seats shouldn't have been together. There was an extra add-on for everything. We needed a rental car upgrade because four of us couldn't get our luggage in the little car they rented for us. The car they gave us wouldn't go up hills. We had to pay $458 extra to have the car insured by this lousy rental car company. both of the hotels were adequate. We paid for an upgrade to the one in Tamarindo and it was nice. The trip was originally advertised for $475, or something like that. When we called suddenly it was $800 and we could only go in December. Nothing was what it seemed and the travel agent Nick was not really very helpful most of the time. read more

We just had the most amazing trip to Costa Rica, thanks to Travel by Jen! I can't recommend this company highly enough. We traveled with another family of our friends-- 4 adults and 4 kids total. The price was unbelievable -- I've *never* seen a deal this good: flights, hotels, car rentals, and breakfast were all included. The three hotels we stayed at were lovely and charming in their different ways -- the first had a hot tub in the room with hot springs, pool, and a great restaurant for meals; the second had bungalows walking distance from the beach; the third was up in the cloud mountains near Poas Volcano. There was more driving than we had expected, but the rental cars were automatic and in good condition and it was a lovely way to tour the country. We went on a nature hike in La Fortuna and saw sloths and birds and lizards and frogs. We went zip-lining at the nearby Los Lagos resort while the kids played in the complex of pools. I loved the regional differences in ceviche and a common seafood soup. I was constantly amazed by the good choices made by the folks who put this trip together. It must be really hard to find such good hotels/cars and keep the price affordable. We will definitely use this company again! read more

Absolute trash! This travel agency is the absolute worst I have ever experienced in my entire life! I was shocked with how ridiculously terrible their customer service is. I called and waited for over an hour for a response just to be put on hold again because I asked about their online deals. The representative I was speaking to had a bad attitude and began screaming at me over the phone and belittling me over my questions. They even booked me the worse flight stating that if I wanted something better I would have to pay an extra $250 to fly with Delta.... Money isn't the issue here the issue is they don't honor their prices that are on Print for the trip at all. Horrible customer service. Sent me to a resort that had bedbugs, admitted that it looked like the place had bedbugs, but kept telling me that they can't do much for me and to wait "up to 45 days" for a response from the resort. Of course the resort writes back and says that the blood stained mattress is just 'mold' and not 'bedbugs' and somehow this is ok? So if you want to stay in a moldy ass bedbug bed and have no one give a shit, then this is the travel agency for you! They should really be ashamed, but alas they are not. I had issues from beginning to end with this trip and this company. You're better off just booking yourself because they honestly didn't save me much money and I could've avoided the horrible experience and bedbug ridden hotel. I had already booked my airfare through Delta and got a great deal for $200 round-trip, and then contacted Travel by Jen for the hotel and car rental. The Volcano Lodge in La Fortuna was awesome but I was not aware it would be an extra $50 a day for the car rental insurance. Since our flight was at eight in the morning and I told Nick I wanted to be close to the airport and he booked us at the Best Western Plus which was over 9 miles away. 9 miles in Costa Rica is at least a half an hour and we didn't want to be dealing with returning our car at six in the morning when there was a Holiday Inn Express and a Hampton Inn right there at the airport. We ended up turning our car in a day early and staying at the Hampton Inn, which was lovely. We couldn't get a refund for the extra day of car rental and insurance or the hotel we never used. I would do more research on my own next time. read more

I booked a trip to Cancun Mexico with Cody and he was AMAZING. I went to him with very specific wants. I gave him some places I was looking at already and he found all the info for them including cheapest days but then he came back with a suggestion of one of the resorts they saw on a travelbyjen trip and it checked all my boxes and more. The resort was AMAZING. (Catalonia Costa Mujeres). It was so clean, looked brand new, amazing food, such nice pools and beach, honestly can't say nice enough things about it. He got us a great deal. I've stayed at other places for the same price and it felt like we were staying at a place worth thousands. The transportation was also great, went without a hiccup despite our flight being delayed. He was very knowledgeable about all the resorts and could answer every question. It was seriously the most amazing resort and trip, I couldn't recommend Cody, TravelbyJen and Catalonia Costa Mujeres enough. Already wanna go back!!! read more

I attempted to call Travel by Jen and left several messages for a call back in order to look at flight options before booking a Groupon deal, but failed to receive an answer back. Thus, I booked the Groupon anyway, as I didn't want the deal to expire. I again attempted to call for flight options leaving several messages, but again never received a call back. I finally got a hold of someone on the 6th attempt to reach them. The lady that finally answered (her name was Debby) was very rude and unhelpful. She basically told me that I should just get a refund for my Groupon because I couldn't book any flights for the dates I was looking to travel. Confused, I mentioned that I saw on their website that there were many flight options, and she rudely replied, "I'm telling you that doesn't matter, you can't get any flights for your voucher. Just get a refund." I'm not sure why she felt the need to speak to me this way when I was just looking for clarification. I have called Groupon and requested a refund. Update: I am updating my review as another representative (named Christine) did call me back about half an hour later and was willing to accommodate my travel dates. She was very kind and helpful, but I was still charged an extra $30 per person for the flights. I really appreciated all of Christine's help. read more

I hope this vacation gets better than how it started. I haven't been on vacation in a long time since I work alot so my wife surprised me by booking a trip with travel by Jen on Groupon to Cancun for our wedding anniversary. I like to read reviews before I purchase anything. So after everything is said and done. She finds out we are flying spirit airlines with a connecting flight to ft lauderdale so I start doing some research and find out this airline is terrible from there practices to the staff. I keep reading about reviewers flights being canceled and delayed also someone wrote that you have to pay for your carry on luggage and if you have a layover you have to pay for carry on again for the next flight. So now we have to pay 4x possibly more for carry on. Our trip is only 3 days. Then I start researching the hotel which is nyx hotel. Man, I read some reviews with people complaining about dirty rooms to broken ac units in rooms to bedbugs with video and pics from the reviewers to terrible front desk service. She gets a call from travel by Jen to confirm so during the conversation they tell my wife oh we don't have any more of the regular rooms but will upgrade your room for another 100 she thinks and says yes. Then is told also we can arrange a pickup and drop off from airport for another extra fee which I didn't think was bad for another 20 each way. Um ok I guess. I feel this was a money grab. I've been places where all this stuff is included in the all inclusive package which she bought. I will update on the trip once we go in two weeks but I really really hope I don't have a bad experience. As far as I'm concerned the practices of this travel agent haven't been good from who they use for flight to the accommodations. I hope everything I wrote was wrong but will update once everything happens. UPDATE: trip was awesome from the hotel to the staff. No issues with that at all. My only issue was the airline travel by Jen used which was spirit airlines If anyone is planning to use travel by Jen do your research first before booking with Jen like booking everything yourself compared to Jen The groupon voucher cost us more than was originally stated due to the airline and if you use Jen find out the airline before you book. Since we weren't told the airline til after booking and if you do book here find out how much to use a different airline. Trust me everything was good except for the plane ride and the lack of communication as far as airline not being told til after you've paid and booked your trip. Oh wow where do I begin. Lets start with my travel agent Sue the Hutt. In the beginning of booking everything was grand, purchased tickets through Groupon for my wife and I. We scheduled the trip, Sue even sold me on an upgrade package in Costa Rica because why not right? Wrong. This has been the absolute worst experience of my life. The Costa Rican Safety Council changed the opening date 5 times, the most recent time until after we had our trip scheduled. Not Travel by Jens fault. The weeks leading up to writing this email, I made sure to stay in constant contact with Sue, and every time they moved the date, she reassured me they were opening, not to worry. Ok great, at this point outside of my Groupon refund cancellation window I contacted her once again. This time, I was met with one of the rudest confrontational people. There was no talking, just a rude operator on the other line saying there are no refunds. Now refund policy, no refunds. I accept that no refunds policy if maybe I cancelled the trip, or the trip was not to my liking, however in this case they could not even offer me the package that I paid for as THE COUNTRY WAS CLOSED AND NOT LETTING ANYONE IN. In any other circumstance this is considered FRAUD. When you sell someone a product that you do not have the ability to produce, it is called fraud. I asked for refund, she basically told me to eat a bag of *****. I was told that I was on my own and that I would be required to deal with the flight refund. Oh wait it gets better. I call Jet Blue which took about an hour to get a hold of because of the backup currently. Finally I get to someone, explain them my situation, they shifted my travel date to the next day so they didn't have to cancel my flight, which by law everyone would be required to give me a full refund. So this lady finally agrees to refund me in full, awesome now were getting somewhere. Nope! She could only refund to the original card used, or take a travel credit, which honestly wtf am I going to do with that, I work 60-70 hours a week, my fiancé works in medical and this would have been the first time I have traveled in 6 years, and the first time for the both of us to actually travel outside the country. Finally being so fed up with Sue the Hutt, I had my fiancé call. This See You Next Tuesday pulls up the account and starts screaming at her, I could literally hear her through the phone across the room; THERE ARE NO REFUNDS. YOU WILL NOT GET ANY MONEY BACK FROM US, YOU ARE ON YOU OWN NOW. Again I understand that Covid has affected the industry, but for someone to not offer a full refund for a product that they could not even provide to me is BullS****. This company is a bunch of cons. Especially Sue the Hutt, they are literally still selling packages on Groupon right now. I have taken it upon myself to reach out to many others across reddit, forums and the internet. There are a total of 50 people now and we are getting ready to file a class action lawsuit against this company for fraud and theft. In closing, Don't use Travel by Jen, or their other shell company Jet Set Vacations. They are a bunch of low life scammers. Spend a little bit more money, do your own research and travel planning. I didn't even think to look at these reviews before I used this travel agency, and now I'm kicking myself. I was booked on a flight with a 9 hour layover. We planned to go out and explore the city during this time. However, this travel agency booked it such that it was 2 totally separate flights, not connecting flights. Therefore, I had to check in twice, once for each leg. And we had to pick up our luggage after the 1st leg and check it back in. Because we couldn't check in our luggage to the 2nd flight more than 4 hours in advance, we were stuck at the airport for 9 hours!! Why would they do that?!?! The same thing happened on the way back except it was a 7 hour layover. In addition, they booked us at a hotel in an area with practically 100% humidity with no AC. read more

Extremely Incompetent Company Three weeks before our trip, I took it into my own hands to reach out to the resort that Travel By Jen booked us with to see what excursions they had to offer and how things were being handled due to covid. To my surprise, they informed me that they were not even open and have been closed for 6 months. I am not sure why the travel company would advertise a vacation package at a resort that isn't even open??? Let alone not even inform us about the resort being closed. I found out myself that the resort was not open, not through our agent...All that we had left with was one other option for our travel dates and it was $200+ more than our original package...also on a different section of the island than originally planned. I reached out to Travel By Jen yet again 6 days before our departure and I was then informed that our flights had been cancelled........ Um WHAT?!?!? Travel By Jen then informed me that WE would have to find new flights and that they would be expensive since it was so close to the departure. Pardon my French, but how in the hell are we responsible for the cost difference in flights?!? We did not cancel. We also were not told about our original flight information. On top of all of that, WE has to reach out to our original airline to request a refund on the flights. Unbelievable. All of these "mishaps" encumbered time out of my work day. I was dealing with our confirmed reservation on two different days for over an hour and a half each time...I thought booking through a travel company would make life easier but I was very wrong. I really didn't have such a great experience. Anytime I tried to reach out to customer service I had to work approx 30/40 minutes to speak to someone. The hotel was okay. "Travel by Jen" promoted photos of the upgraded rooms and said that these would be the rooms we would get but when we showed up they weren't the same, so we ended up upgrading but had to wait a few days to get the upgraded room. The airline ticket seats that were suppose to be booked for us were taken. We got lucky because there were 2 other cancellations in completely different seats that had opened up last second. Not to mention on the way home we had a emergency landing in Washington D.C. where we waited for a hour on the runway just to be shipped off on a bus to be driven all the way to New York. P.s... we live in Philly, so driving home at 4am with no sleep was rough. read more

So the initial booking was fine after purchasing a Groupon. However when I had questions I would be on hold for approx 25-30 minutes. I always felt as if the agent was rushing me off the phone or in a hurry, the travel documents were accurate. I had to pay extra money due to the airport I was flying from which was annoying. I didn't like that my friend and I weren't booked to sit together on our connecting flights. The transportation service they used in Puerto Plata Dominican Republic had the wrong info and took us to two hotels before getting us to the right place. The resort and my stay was amazing at the VH Atmosphere hotel! I would book with them again, this was just trial and error and now I know what to ask and make sure about up front. I cant post a review about my trip or my satisfaction with Travel By Jen because I could never get past the booking stage. I called on 4/29/22 at 1230pm to book a Travel Zoo deal to Costa Rica. After a 40 min hold I finally spoke with Nick. Not the nicest most accommodating guy but did answer some questions and got me a price on some requested upgrades. I asked if he could send me the "quote" and he said that wasn't an option. I said I would check with my group and get back with him. I called again at 455 to book the trip and was on hold another 40 min. Spoke with another guy who was very short and rude and said I needed to speak with Nick because they don't save info in their system! Finally got Nick at 545 and he said it was too late to book the trip (I called to book an hour earlier) and would call me back first thing Monday when they opened. I did not hear from Nick at 10 on Monday so called back at 1030 and waited ANOTHER 40 min only to speak with a lady that was also short and rude and said she could not help and Nick did not come in until 1140 and she would leave him a note to call me. I never heard from Nick all day Monday or Tuesday. Needless to say, I am not joking with this agency. I booked a similar trip at a similar price at an agency that was very nice and accommodating and didn't act like I had just interrupted their day! Worst communication I have ever experienced. I have never dealt with any business where everyone I spoke with had an attitude and seemed they were doing me a favor my booking me a trip or had 40+ minute wait times no matter the day or time of day I called! read more

If I could rate lower I would. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. HORRIBLE!!! Staff is rude and unhelpful. This is the first time I used a travel agency to help with international travel and it was awful. First I talked with the agent via phone and told him I wanted excursions. he told me he Would email what's available and I can choose what was of interest and he would book its. After many, many emails back And fourth over a week and half he NEVER booked anything. Next was my main concern - vaccination status and what's needed to get into the country (costa rica) the agent (Nick P.) told me that we would need passports; and a negative covid test renter the USA. ok great. NOT TRUE. we arrived in lots of time to board the connecting flight and we're denied the flight because they said we needed QR codes. so after being denied the flight - I contacted nick again and also reminded him he kept ignoring my emails regarding excursions ( travel by Jen) and he was ag unhelpful. Said I had to contact spirit and he had nothing to do with it. Which if you booked these flights and we hire you as a travel agent I think it's 100% your responsibility to make sure your travelers are ready with all documents needed. I had to rebook flights myself and pay out of pocket. Next because if getting into Costa Rica so late I also had to pick up the rental car and drive over 3 hours in the dark in a remote area. The agent said the only charges for renting a car would be the daily insurance and I asked that gps was included- not true. Since the agent failed to respond to numerous emails to book excursions - I had to book everything myself. Out of 4 hotels - 1 had a huge ant problem, 2 was very low in quality, 3 was amazing and the last one was like a small prison. Return flight home was delayed over 3 hours making us miss our home connecting flight. Of course no help from them again. If you have to use an agency use someone local that can answer your questions and concerns face to face and accurately!! This agency had cost us 2 days of vacation time and more in parking fees etc. I could write so much more - don't use them! I've used Travel by Jen twice - once through Groupon and once directly through a rep at Travel by Jen. Both trips were nice, all-inclusive resorts. My only gripe is that I was told an Escalade would be picking us up at the airport. When we arrived in Mexico, we were told we were in a van with a bunch of other couples who all needed to be dropped off at different hotels. When I called Samantha at Travel by Jen, her tone completely changed and she basically called me a liar, insisting she never said that we would have a private Escalade. I am 100% sure she did - I wouldn't make that up. read more

We had a wonderful experience! We booked through TravelZoo. Travel by Jen was contracted with Jet Set Vacations. Our travel agent Suzanne DiBenedetto at Jet Set was very attentive. We went to Cozumel, Mexico a couple of weeks ago and everything went completely smoothly including air travel and transfers (through Lomas Travel who was wonderful). We were thrilled with our beautiful, all-inclusive resort (Sunscape Sabor) and are so grateful for the deal we got there! We are SO glad we went on this trip- it couldn't have gone any better! read more
