If front door is locked swing around to the back/shop. It's a bit of a hidden gem I walked into shop with a jammed up hedge trimmer thankfully it turned out to be a super quick fix. The gentleman who helped me out recommended a product he used to lube the chain/blade and I was blown away by the many options available in stock and fairly priced. I don't know why there are negative reviews. This place did a great job of fixing our 20+ year old John Deere push mower. They took the mower and called about a week later (it is summertime, so I was prepared for a wait. Not too bad. Especially compared to the "mobile mower" fix-it guy that I tried to engage - no show, then no communication. Awful). Travis Tractor got our mower working great for a very reasonable price. It ran as well as its ever run. Great service as well. They answered questions we had about a weed trimmer (without trying to sell me one or get us to bring it in, which I really appreciated), and recommended an inexpensive fuel line kit so we could try and fix the problem ourselves. They also gave us some good advice on mixed fuel for the trimmer. Great job, great service, reasonable price - what more could you ask for? read more

This is old school, low tech competent service. Bring them your broken, beat-up and abused gear and it'll come back working. As to the previous post, don't expect to buy your gear at a cheap big box and then waltz into a local shop that survives on local purchases and expect a miracle. Now that McCoy's is closed, this is really the only place you can take stuff where they have a proper garage filled with spare parts to ensure they can fix your mower or blower or whatever. It's not gonna be cheap, but it'll be reasonable. read more

Took the tractor to Tractor Supply and they got new parts and got it repaired as well as sharpening the blades pretty quickly and the price was very reasonable. Bad customer service. Echo sent me to them to have my leaf blower serviced under warranty. The employe told me I would need to produce a receipt for them to look at it. After I found my receipt Home Depot emailed and I showed it to him. He said he needed a copy. I told him I could email him a copy. He said sorry I don't have a email. So told him I would go to home to print him a copy and he said even I If did that he wouldn't get to it for at least 5 to 6wks! Outstanding technical knowledge of all the equipment in the shop. Weird to see bad custom service reviews, that was not my experience at all! Clay was a true professional to deal with. This was my first ever purchase of a riding zero turn mower. I had done lots of research online prior to entering TT&LE. Clay was able to answer all my questions and helped me narrow down what i was looking for. He never once tried to up sell me on anything either. If you enter the store from the front off of Congress Ave and no one is on the showroom floor, walk to back of the store. If for some reason you still can't find someone, I promise you, if you ring the bell on the counter in the back someone will come rushing out of the repair/service area to assist you. (That was my experience), I waited all of 30 seconds! I'm glad I didn't run off in a huff. I got a great deal on zero turn mower, chainsaw, blower & a weed wacker. I will be returning for sure. I took my John Deere riding mower and Craftsman push mower (will work on if it has a Briggs & Stratton engine) in on Thursday (8/11) around 2pm, both had been sitting for about 2 years without a single use. I was told it could be a few days for the Craftsman and possibly a week for the John Deere. I received a call at about 9:50am Friday (8/12) morning with the news that the push mower was ready and another call a few minutes later to let me know that even though they could only work on the engine they found the gears stripped on the right front wheel. Then told me what I needed to fix it. On Friday evening around 5pm I received a call to let me know what it was going to take to fix the John Deere as I'd asked them to just to be sure I was prepared for the bill. I gave the go ahead and received another call at about 10:30am Saturday (8/13) that it was ready to go. I was very satisfied with the service, courtesy, and the professionalism. read more

I had never been to this business so service was up for grabs. First I went in to get tune up parts for a John Deere lawn tractor. I asked questions that were freely answered. Next I broke the head on a Stilh trimmer so back I went. Got it home and couldn't get the old head off. Took the trimmer and receipt showing purchase with the intent to just get the old head off. After some time in their shop the head was removed. They put a new one on although I had not brought the one orignially purchased, thinking I'd be happy if they could just free up the old one. They said "just bring in the other one" meaning I had two and paid for only one. I brought the other head in the next day and they smiled and thanked me. By the way, they never charged me for removing the old head even though it took quite some time. Yes, I will be back. read more

I'm very bummed to see the bad reviews. I've been going here since I was in middle school and I'll be turning 30 later this year! Paul and Clay are the guys you'll meet at the counter. They know the business inside and out. Mark and John are the service guys in the back. These guys all know me by my first and last name the moment they see me and I am NOT a big commercial account. I maintain about 30 residential properties in South Austin and Travis Tractor is frankly the wind in my sails. That's a fact. They have sold me top quality equipment that I depend on and they also service it for me. All of these guys have been in my shoes and as an "up and comer/single operator" yard man, I really owe these guys a lot for the infinite wisdom they've gladly shared with me. Mark even helped save me time with how I load and secure my mowers on my trailer - huge help and majorly convenient now. Knowledge really is power! No other mower shop will have my truck and trailer pulling up to them. Echo, Stihl, Shindaiwa, Scag, Snapper...all excellent stuff, all sold and serviced here. read more

I purchased a new Honda commercial hydrostatic drive lawnmower from Travis Tractor in 2003. It has been an excellent reliable mower through the years. However, it would not start on September 17, 2016 so I took it to Travis Tractor for repair. I had to leave Texas for an extended period to care for aged parents on September 29, 2016. I received the mower back on September 27 with a used carburetor and changed oil. The old carburetor was said to be clogged so thoroughly as a result of ethanol and residue that it could not be repaired. I appreciate the fact that a used carburetor was used that was one-fourth the cost of a new one and the total bill was reasonable IF the mower had worked. When I got home I did not add any fuel because I assumed that Travis Tractor would have cleaned the problem fuel and tank and added sufficient ethanol fee fuel to test it. I was able to get it started but the RPMs were too low to operate and the throttle did not change the RPMs. Because I was headed out of state for several months, i drained the tank and float bowl per the mechanic's instruction. As I drained the tank by tipping the mower over, I noticed dark granules in the glass catch jar. It appeared to me that they had not drained or cleaned the fuel in the tank. I called the mechanic on September 28, 2016 and explained the problem that I could not bring the mower back because I had to leave the state and had no one who could pick it up when repaired but that I would bring it back in March 2017. He indicated that they would make good on their warranty and look at it without charge. I took the mower back to Travis tractor on March 21, 2017 when I got back to Austin. A Travis Tractor employee attempted to start the mower and confirmed my Sept. 27 experience...it would start and run but not at full RPM. He indicated that it was likely a throttle linkage adjustment problem. I explained that it had not been run since Sept. 27, 2016 and no fuel (containing ethanol or not) had been placed in it in the intervening 6 months. However, he indicated that if the carburetor was clogged I would be charged for cleaning or repairing it. After not hearing from them in 2.5 weeks, I called on Saturday, April 8. They indicated that they had not even started looking at it. The mechanic called on April 10 and said that nothing was wrong with it...it was running fine at full RPM and the only problem was it was low on oil due to a leak in the lower crankshaft seal. I encouraged him to check with the person who had started it on March 21 and see if they could duplicate the problem. I checked my shed where the mower had been sitting for 6 months and there was no oil on the floor. The mechanic called on April 11 and said the mower was now fixed. It had water in the gas because it had set for so long and the carburetor was plugged up. they charged me $42.22 mostly for labor to clean out the carburetor. My complaints are as follows: 1) I don't have a problem with their initial repair, especially using a used carburetor...the initial charges were reasonable. I object to the later charges because: a) their guarantee is a joke: "WORK IS GUARANTEED - ** 30 DAY WARRANTY FROM INVOICE DATE - NOT "TIMES USED" **WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIR CAUSED BY NEGLECT OR ABUSE**" I received what I thought was a verbal exception to the 30 day warranty as the mechanic was aware that I had to be out of state for 6 months. b)I had followed their instructions in emptying ethanol fuel from the tank and float bowl knowing I would be gone for any extended period. The water may have condensed in an empty tank and the residue may have held over after I turned the tank over on Sept. 27...either way they should have made sure it was clear of residue of water before testing it. c) I did not start or add fuel in the intervening 6 months prior to March 21, 2017 d) they admit ethanol is a problem for some small engine carburetors like this one but chose not to clear the tank or fuel lines before repair and testing with non-ethanol fuel. I would have gladly paid for non-ethanol fuel to repair and test it. Water could have condensed in an empty tank but why didn't they check that before putting fuel (even with ethanol) in it before testing? e) there is no leaking oil from the lower seal. They just didn't put adequate oil in when they changed it in September. As a result I have no confidence in this shop and will not be going back. They do not warranty their work but would rather blame me for their lack of competence. I regret buying this new mower, air filters and plugs form them over the intervening years. I have a huge yard and love to work on it so I use a lot of lawn equipment. The lawn store I usually went to always seemed to be out of whatever I needed. (Or so it felt!) One day my usual lawn store did not have a chain I needed for a piece of my equipment. In the past, someone had mentioned Travis Tractor to me so that day I decided to try it. Happily, they had the chain I needed. Not only that day but they always seem to have what I need such as the right kind of blades and just about everything I have needed for my yard. I'm done with my yard for this year and am very happy with the way it looks. I highly recommend this lawn store because it is well stocked. (No one wants to wait on their yard work because a piece had to be ordered from timbuktoo!) And another thing, the counter guy is very knowledgeable about their inventory. He is very helpful.
