This entity does not need your business. Management is obviously needing to brush up on their skills. The staff is very inexperienced in customer service. Plus, if you don't have commercial machinery they don't need your business, you're at the bottom of the totem pole. They took over a month with my one year old riding lawnmower. I sent the recording of the machine acting up. Paid $409 deposit. They returned it to me and said there was nothing wrong with it. Charge was $210. I would not trust their services. read more

I brought my lawnmower in for a possible warranty repair. I was told there would be a $200 hold on my credit card. Instead, there was a charge even though it was going to be two to three weeks before my mower could even be looked at. One of their employees told me it was just like at a hotel for incidentals. That's not how they do it at hotels, they put a hold, and he insisted that I was wrong about that too. They gave me excuse after excuse before even looking at the mower as to why the repair wouldn't be covered under warranty, including trying to claim that the problem was old gas (the gas had been in the mower for about 6 weeks with a stabilizer). Then they said it was probably the carburetor which also wouldn't be covered. Then they told me after they had charged the $200 that if they even looked at the mower there would be a $68 charge whether they did the work or not. They finally told me to just come get the mower. These guys are so helpful. I had a lawn mower which wouldn't start, I called and described to them the issue, and they recommended I swing by. They could have taken the lawn mower, charged a lot of money and kept it six weeks-- or they could have just done a simple fix and charged nothing. I've been mostly happy with my purchases and repairs at Hill Country Outdoor. BUT, there is an issue on the bigger stuff. Fixing my broken weed whacker took days. Need your blades changed or sharpened? They quote you 4-6 weeks wait time. So, this means my 1.5 acre yard along with mom's 2 acre yard on the other side of the ranch will be 6 feet tall till the mower gets back. Better hurry up to the livestock auction a get a herd of sheep in the meantime I guess. They did offer me (front of the line) express service for an extra $100. That money does not go toward repairs. I probed further asking why can't there be a waiting list so you can bring in your repair with a couple of days notice of your place in line. That way if your mower is still 70 percent functional you can use it up until it goes in for service. Guess the owners never thought of this. It's genius and would be better than turning folks away. SO, the employee on the phone ended up referring me to a former employee who makes house calls. My mower was assessed the next day and parts were ordered. He then returned with all the parts and made my mower run like new again. ALL without the BS of dealing with HCOP. So, so long guys. I'll never call begging for a repair again. read more

My Troy Bilt mower works great after being repaired by HCOP! It took 4 weeks and the awful traffic on 290 but so glad I took it in. Just couldn't get it to start this year. They replaced gaskets, spark plug, air cleaner, fuel filter. They did warn me in late March that it would take 5 weeks. No rush but I did have to call to ask about it. Don't recall getting a call that it was done. Also left the $200 check down as a deposit but cost was lower than that. Great shop!! read more

I've been in the industry for over 10 years and never had to deal with such pour communication from a repair service like hill country. After waiting almost 2 months to get my machine back I had to pay an additional $600 on top of my deposit after being told it was only going to be and additional $300. I tried to get an explanation as to why but the manager who handled my case was not at work and no one else knew what to tell me. You had 6-7 guys at the front counter watching videos on the computer and no one could give me a good explanation to why.I will no longer be taking my machine to them and I will also stop referring family and friends to this store as they are unorganized and have to long of a lead time for repairs. read more

The guy at the front desk, after telling me that they had a 4-5 week backlog, called out the assistant manager to take a look. I brought a Husqvarna blower in for warranty repair, which is probably the least expensive item they work on. They were quick to start providing updates. I did have some issues with the warranty submission but in the end they took great care of me. The repair itself was excellent and I will definitely go back to them again. read more

I called to see if I could bring my Stihl chainsaw to get fixed, my pull start spring came loose. Joe said bring it in, I can fix it while you wait. Drive down, Joe is there finishing up with another customer and then gets to work on my saw. After some finagling etc we go to start it and it doesn't start, he puts a new plug in, gives a few more pulls and my chainsaw fired up!! He charged me his lowest labor amount of $20 and a little change for the plug and I was off and running! They treated me like one of their regular customers who probably comes in weekly! We bought a riding mower at a big box store and was having starter issues. HCOP was an authorized cub cadet repair place and we gave them a call. They were great to work with and even picked and dropped the large riding mower off at a very reasonable rate. The starter was able to be fixed under warranty, so we decided to do a tune up while it was in the shop. The only downfall was it took over 4 weeks to get it back, but we were told this upon pickup. So still 5 stars! Everyone was great to work with and next time we will buy directly from them. read more

When neophyte cityfolk moved to the country, it is good that people like this are around to help! My husband came here to get our chainsaw blade replaced. They did it in a jiffy and also gave him lots of advice about the chainsaw -- advice we really needed! He was also super impressed with how friendly and helpful people were there. It is not often he raves about that, especially in the Dripping Springs area where people just don't like "strangers". I also had a great experience when I needed a new tire for my mower. I've been doing riding zero and garden tractor research on my own now, for about 3 months, so I've learned a little about what my needs are and what I want. I stopped by this location and they were super friendly. The salesman I spoke with was quick to offer me a mower that I already knew I disliked and did not want, so I kindly explained that it utilized a transmission that I was not interested in, based on the hilly landscaping in my yard. He did not know what type of transmission it used and asked for assistance from another salesman. The second guy was more knowledgeable and tried to explain why the lower rated transmission would work. Still not interested, he suggested another model, which was out of stock. He pointed to the empty location on the sales floor and told me about how great "it" was. I asked to see one and was told by the first guy that he could show me the pricing. The second guy said they had several in stock, just none to show me on the floor. I live 18 miles away but was told that $25 for delivery only applied to the 8 or 9 mile surrounding area and that it was several dollars per mile outside of that 8-9 miles. From my research, I'm seeing most places deliver for free. The staff was friendly, but at least one of the guys I spoke with clearly had no idea about the specs of the machines he was selling. I think this is mandatory in order to sell to the customers needs. Once I was told about a machine that I might have been interested in, it was not on the sales floor and I was not offered when I could see the "several units that were in stock". I was only offered to see the price of the unit and told about the delivery fees. I ended up going to a competitor and purchasing, getting free delivery and a very knowledgeable salesperson who knew exactly what I needed. read more

Joe and his crew go way out of their way to help. This kind of customer care is rare these days. I drive all the way from Central Austin because there is no store that compares . Recently, I purchased a Husquavarna chain saw. They did not have the blade length I wanted. So they took the blade and chain off a different Husquavarna model and installed on the one I wanted. I recently had trouble with a battery. I took it in to be serviced. They took me to the back room and worked on it for 15 minutes. They fixed it and did not even charge me. read more

Went to Hill Country Outdoor Power today and took my old Stihl chain saw in for repair expecting to have to purchase a new carburetor and pay for labor to install. After being told repairs would take about two weeks due to the volume of work that had come in during the pandemic. Joe took my saw, which refused to start for me after many attempts to start before I went in. Joe immediately found the problem, corrected it and had it running in less than 5 minutes while I waited. I had a Cub Cadet UTV that needed some work. Short story is (a) it took 8-10 weeks to get it back, (b) it cost $1100, (c) they didn't put it all back together, (d) they put back parts that were inferior to what was there before, and (e) they're snotty. The worst parts were (c) and (d). (c) After driving it for 30 minutes my daughter came back and said the wheel was jacked. I went out to look at it, left front wheel was freewheeling, not connected to steering bar. I looked under it, they never put the nut back on that secures the steering bar to the wheel. Unbelievable. No way it fell off, it is a 1" locking nut. (d) I immediately had charging problems. I noticed the alternator belt was loose, so I tightened it up. Every 30 minutes it would squeal again, I would tighten it. Over the next 6 months I ran through 4-5 alternator belts. 3L270, which is pretty small and rare. I tool alternator in for check, it was fine, so I finally realized that the belt was simply too small. I took off alternator and replaced pulley with a normal 5L270, and had the other pulley replaced at another shop. 0 problems since. There is NO WAY this was the original pulley. I NEVER had a problem in 250 hours with the alternator belt before taking it in to this shop. There is NO WAY this 3L270 was the original belt/pulley setup on a loaded 31HP twin cylinder Cub Cadet with light bar up top, fog lights and electric lift bed. Clearly they took it apart, sat on the parts for 8-10 weeks and then threw whatever parts they saw laying around (minus the left front tire steering bar nut) and called me to pick it up. (e) Its my fault for not leaving after they ignored me for 20 minutes. I came in. 5 idiots standing behind the counter, 1 was talking to a customer, the other 4 were just picking their noses and occasionally staring at me. I was leaning on the counter, they wouldn't talk to me. Idiot number 1 was shooting the breeze with the other customer. Finally after 20 minutes they decided I wasn't going away so they asked me why I was there. I should have left, live and learn. (a) 8-10 weeks. I called after 3 weeks and they acted like they didn't know who I was or why I was calling. I called back 2 weeks later and I heard him ask around like did anybody order those parts? Granted a steering column is probably hard to get but they are a Cub Cader authorized dealer and repair shop. (b) $1100 might have been reasonable if they did the work right and put it back together the way they found it (except for the $1100 in fixes). They did fix the steering column. This is the worst place I have ever gone to get service. Worst ever. read more

Wow!!! Took almost a month to get my lawnmower back. It was through the holidays but still. I brought in the emblem that fell off as the adhesive came undone. They charged me for a new emblem and to put it on. I didn't know what it was or I would have put it on. I sell adhesives for a living. I asked the guy to go over the charges with me twice he said its on your receipt. Service poor! Length of time they had my mower for an $8.00 part was ridiculous. read more

Outdoor Power has a lot of great equipment at the MSRP. So it is not a value place but they do have sales and has a nice spring event. The owner, Andy, is pretty nice guy trying to make a honest living. I have purchased several items here including a nice riding mower. The issue I had with them was getting my four year old mower serviced. Although I took great care of my riding mower, the fuel line busted. Since it was going to be an effort to get that fixed, I wanted to get the mower fuly serviced - oil change, blades sharpened, etc. It was not cheap, but I figured they would check everything and it would be good for another few years. The mower came back with the wires connecting the lights completely fried, several bolts were missing and they seem to have relaced most of the OME easy twist bolts with anything that was laying around. Unfortunately, I did not recognize the damage until much later because I was not using the mower much due to the drought. I try to support small businesses but won't be going back to this one. Update. 1/30/12. The manger has contacted me to see if they could remedy the prior poor service. Stay tuned. read more

So far, they are 2 for 2 on having spare parts that I've needed for two Toro mowers. The first mower needed a new gas tank, other was cracked and leaking. I decided to contact them to see if they had it stock, it was past 5 PM on a Wednesday, so I emailed them. The next day before noon, I received a reply saying they had it and gave me the price. Grabbed it on a Saturday for a price that was very close what I saw on PartsTree.com. The following weekend my folks needed their weeds to be mowed, and that one wouldn't start up. It turns out there is no spark in the spark plug, so that left the ignition coil being bad. On Saturday I give them a call, they check the computers to see and physically verify they do have it. She asked if I wanted them to hold it for me, sure thing! 40 minutes later, Buda to their location, she has it right in front of her. Price was only $5.00 more than PartsTree.com. Fair enough, have it now vs. later. No complaints, overall, I would use them for parts, reading reviews here for service on the equipment remains to be seen by me. One less star since part prices are double of that from Amazon.com, maybe I should get Prime again... read more
