This was the most intimate and thoughtful experience that we have attended. The staff was genuine and extremely nice. The facilities were easy to navigate and didn't seem overly fabricated to create a fake experience. The view was outstanding, jaw, dropping, amazing. We were treated to several demonstrations on how the people lived on the island. My group got to watch an authentic dance and performance. And we end the night with entertainment while enjoying a island buffet. From Kahlúa pork to sticky rice to traditional foods our group got the try so many cultural aspects of the island. One of the best parts of this experience is, they are situated in a state park, so there is no light pollution, noise, pollution, or any other random traffic that can interrupt your experience. If you're looking for a genuine place to take your family or group. This is the spot.

This convention is open to any photographers and cinematographers from beginner to pro and all enthusiasts alike. Registrations is through photoconhawaii.com. Alexander gifted me with my all access pass for $20 for my birthday at an early bird price. Otherwise, it's $20 at the door for a one day pass including workshops for that day only. At first, I was confused at where and when we were allowed to pick up our passes. I was able to get pass at one of the speakers I attended. With my all access pass, I was able to attend speakers prior to the main convention. I listened to lecturers from Pacific New Media's PhaseOne's keynotes speaker Steven Katzman at the University of Manoa Hawai'i and Onne Van der Wal which is one of Canon's Explorer of Light keynote speaker. It was inspiring hearing and seeing different photographers speak about their biography and art. Since coming back to photography, I've met many wonderful people of my same interest. It was exciting seeing a lot of people I knew that I've shot with. During day one of the convention, we acquired a few cool badge lanyards and an organized booklet of what the trade show expo will have. While this is Hawai'i's very first photo show, there were an eclectic selection of vendors not only big name companies like Canon, Phase One, and Sony but loads of local vendors like a few of my favorites; Pro Camera Hawaii, Hawaii Camera, Pictures Plus and Chromaco, Hawaii Astronomy Club, Oahu Photography Tours and much more. There were lots of contests to enter as well. Hawaii Camera's Darcy Fiero and her daughter Jackie were tending the booth. Darcy is very knowledgeable with all my camera needs and I'm glad to have ran into her on the first day. Pro Camera's owner Tony Zerga is always helpful whenever we are looking for new trending gears in the market and it was great scoring an item from him that day at a discounted price. Canon was allowing free cleaning services for two items during the two day convention (a camera body and a lens or two lens). Hurry up and wait because the wait could be lengthy. While perusing the convention, we didn't forget to sign up for the free workshops, they can get full quickly. Sign ups are allowed at most during the convention or online. The workshops are a mixture of intro to photography, to model walks and photo walks or flash photography, natural lighting, portrait photography to food photography. The experience was outstanding all around. Be ready to walk in comfortable shoes if you're carrying your gears for the day. Certain workshops advice photographers to bring plenty of memory cards, tripod or certain lens for what you'll be shooting. Some do begin before the convention is open or after the convention closes. Aside from all the excitement, looking at the images from The Essence of Hawai'i Photo Contest was outstanding. I love the photos chosen for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners and the honorable mentions. All did a wonderful job and showed attention to advanced skills, focused on quality and artistic approach. Their photos were printed in metal and open for everyone to view upon entering the expo. I'm happy to see a few of my photography friends placed as honorable mentions. My husband and I were able to get in for free bc of being military members and registering online before hand. (We showed ID when we arrived) I also voted on KHONs website for my fav pic for the photography contest a few days before. All the photos were displayed and they gave you a thick book of info and duplicate pics which was exciting. The how to work shops held upstairs were quick and informative. Salt n Air studios was super neat w all their toys and xplorco had a super cute set up. A fun event with the islands best editing companies and imaging tech specialties.

Features included a custom entry experience with a time machine back to the 80s, a mirrored dance floor, 80s classic games, different centerpieces for each table level, custom Rubiks cube dance platforms, a glam station and more! We were very impressed with the creativity and attention to detail. It really enhanced our night by 1423912837230473647299474 times!!!! All of our guests including us did not step off that dance floor unless it was to take a shot. lol Literally everyone was glued to that dance floor and we all had the time of our lives. As a wedding photographer myself, what I didn't realize is how much the LED dance floor would enhance the photos and video in the end. When we did table photos with all of our guests (we had all the guests come to us on the dance floor for pics before they headed off to the buffet)... instead of having basic ass table photos, we literally looked like we were on the Grid in Tron and it made the most AMAZING table photos I've ever seen!! Adam (the owner and the one controlling the lighting on the dance floor) was absolutely amazing! He programmed the floor and made it perfect for each scene or thing we were doing for the program. This was our greatest decision and SO happy Opulent events offers this kind of dance floor. The ONLY ONE on the island who does this. I HIGHLY recommend every couple to get this dance floor. Painting in Kaneohe, Hawaii…read more.. Paint nights have been happening for years and this is the first time that I got a chance to experience one. Thanks to Jessica and Jules for planning this group activity and organizing us! Before Jessica moves to the mainland, there were a few things that she wanted to do together and one of them was painting. She selected this picture of a waterfall with a flowering tree and butterflies because the other pictures looked "touristy"... haha! The venue (The Beach House) was a local bar in my neighborhood. It was convenient for me since I live and work in Kaneohe. I knew where it was (next to Windward Mall) and that there was free parking...and a restroom with curtains instead of walls to designate separate stalls! Tip: Just lock the door for privacy! Don't let anyone else in with you, ladies! Our instructor, Kate, was awesome! She was so bubbly, informative, and reassuring. I have never painted before and I have always wanted to try. I was afraid of the outcome...lol! This was a super great experience! All of the supplies were provided. Kate and her assistant, Lei, set up and cleaned up for us! We had a blast - and a finished product to remind us of a happy memory. Gosh, Jessica... I'm starting to really miss you already... waaahhh! (Crying a waterfall now...) =( P.S. I visited Storybook Station in Spring 2025 based off a review on Facebook. Prior to that, I've only…read moreseen and interacted with Storybook Entertainment characters performing at various events on the island (examples: Christmas events at Royal Hawaiian Center, events at Wet N Wild, etc). There are 2 physical locations - Pearlridge and Windward Mall. My child's birthday was coming up, so I booked BOTH locations for a "Stay and Play" session. You can either call or book online for a session. A "Stay and Play" session starts off with choosing a costume. There are many options to choose from - unicorn, princess, mermaid, cheerleader, etc. After changing, your child is whisked off for a makeover which includes nail painting and face painting. How fun! Kids can have a little tea party with the Storybook staff (who are also dressed up), dance to the music, and/or have a photoshoot with the props. Although both locations have different props, they are both magical in their own right. I mean, check out my pictures. The colors, the lighting ... everything just adds to the ambiance and makes a very unique and unforgettable experience for the little ones. You won't regret bringing your kid(s) here. It's a fantastic home - and heightens your appreciation for the royalty that one ruled the islands. The Daughters of Hawai'i have gone to extraordinary lengths to preserve, present and honor Queen Emma's summer home. We had several representatives of the daughters on site, each with extensive historical knowledge of Queen Emma, her family and this lovely home. If you love history, or if you would like to know about life of royalty on the islands, check this historical home out. They have a lovely gift shop. Highly recommended!!

Read through the information so we could understand the different items we were viewing. Fascinating walk through Hawaii History and Queen Emma's own personal involvement . Some of the furniture is beautifully made with local wood. There were interesting gifts received from other rulers. There were beautiful feathered capes on display, which the handout how they were produced by only taking a few feathers from multiple birds and releasing without doing harm.
