Jennifer responded to us in a timely manner and was able to answer all of our questions. She was very professional and so sweet when we met in person on the day of the wedding. We enjoyed working with her and appreciate all of her help! Overall, my husband and I did very little since Modern Elopement was able to take care of everything. We just took care of our attire, travel, and bringing certain documents for the marriage license agent. We got engaged in Feb 2022 and eloped in June 2022 during our trip to Hawaii. We chose the Four Seasons package and had 13 people in our group (including me and my husband). They provided several questionnaires to help us choose what we wanted from a selection of vendors they curated (ie. photographer, music, course menu, florals, type of wedding officiant, etc.). You just have to choose what you want, and they take care of the rest. Our photographer, videographer, officiant, hair/makeup artist, and everyone else involved with our wedding were all friendly and professional. They were also able to make accommodations such as adding a videographer to do a full ceremony video along with the included highlight clip, dietary restrictions, time changes, and more. Just ask! Unfortunately, our experience with Morgan and her team was far from positive. We hired them on November 7th, 2022, for our wedding in July 2023. While our initial conversation with Morgan was pleasant, that was the only enjoyable interaction we had with her throughout the entire planning process. From the outset, we communicated with our wedding planner, Jade, about needing transportation to and from our hotel. She assured us she would handle it and send us a website to choose add-ons. After submitting our wishlist on January 23rd, we didn't hear back from Jade until February, with a vague response stating she needed more time to review it. Despite following up every two weeks, it would take up to two weeks to receive a reply. This caused unnecessary frustration, and it wasn't until mid-April that we saw any real progress. By then, we were suddenly pressured to make decisions quickly. The whole point of booking nine months in advance was to alleviate stress, keep things organized, and maintain a clear budget. We received our wedding day schedule just one day before the wedding. Unfortunately, due to poor planning, this process became chaotic and cost us far more than anticipated. From the start, transparency around pricing, wedding locations, and dinner options was lacking. The estimates we received were consistently vague, which was frustrating given their experience. I wanted to confirm our reception location based on the Lookout 1 option in Maui, but they were evasive, leaving us unsure whether transportation would be necessary. Fortunately, my now-husband found our preferred location (Gannons, now called Gather Maui) online, and we were able to make a decision based on his findings. During the planning, they changed our dinner location within Gannon's without consulting us. Originally, we were supposed to have a 24-foot double-wide dining table, but they replaced it with a 15-foot table, causing our guests to feel cramped. To make matters worse, there was no air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans, making everyone uncomfortably hot. There was also a larger, available space that could have been used, but they didn't consider it. It's disappointing that a wedding planner didn't foresee these issues, especially after we paid for an extra planner to manage the setup. Another issue was the transportation. Although we approved the transportation details early on, they didn't confirm pricing until just two weeks before the wedding, at which point the cost had doubled. The added charge was for accommodating four additional guests, which we felt was unreasonable. We ended up having my in-laws drive themselves in their rental car. On the wedding day, two vehicles (a sprinter van and a van) arrived. The groom was unable to reach the planner in time, and when the driver said it wasn't an issue to board the vehicle, we were later charged for these unexpected costs. Whether the responsibility lies with the transportation company or Modern Elopement, we'll never know. What we do know is that they withheld our wedding video and photos until they resolved the transportation issue. We didn't receive them until more than three months after the wedding, despite the fact they were ready within weeks. After receiving our wedding photos and video, we noticed they were being shared on social media and other vendor sites. As per our contract, we were only required to notify them in writing if we didn't want our photos distributed. I sent this request on October 27th, 2023, and Jade confirmed she would notify their vendors. However, in March 2025, I was shocked to find our photos posted on their social media and website. After requesting their removal and being ignored, I started leaving comments on the posts and sent emails via the HoneyBook portal and regular email. Morgan's condescending response to my requests only further proved her lack of respect for my wishes and her ongoing exploitation of our wedding for her business gain. She then blocked me on social media, implying she didn't want me to see her ongoing use of my pictures. Additionally, when they attempted to bill us for the extra transportation costs, they removed me from the HoneyBook portal, which I found highly unprofessional. Lastly, during the reception setup, one of the planners left an invoice for our party favors in my suitcase. Modern Elopement had received a discount for ordering these items, but charged me the full 20% planner fee on the regular price, which makes me question whether they overcharged in other areas as well. Despite reaching out to Jade multiple times to keep things moving, Morgan never stepped in to help. She only sent us a few condescending emails when she wanted our payment, but didn't offer any meaningful assistance with the planning. In the end, while our wedding was beautiful, it had very little to do with Modern Elopement. It was thanks to the vendors and choices we made. read more

My wife and I got married in late April 2022 and had a great experience working with Summer at Modern Elopement! Planning a wedding is never easy - you're often making various important decisions for the first (and hopefully last!) time. Super stressful! I felt that Modern Elopement struck the perfect balance between dealing with any minutia that we didn't care to worry about, but had enough customizability to let us make our special day our own. We held our wedding at the Deck at the Queen Kapiolani Hotel, which was a beautiful and practical venue right in Waikiki. Summer did an excellent job as our coordinator. Everything from the decorations, to the music, food, bookings, styling, etc were perfect! We couldn't have possibly imagined a better wedding at our favorite place on Earth. My experience with Modern Elopement was terrible! I hired them to help with my daughter's wedding on Kauai. When I first spoke to Morgan, the owner, she was very nice and made it sound like things would be easy. I wish I had never hired them. I could have done it myself for far less money and frustration. Biggest complaints: Bait and switch on prices. Poor communication. Ineptitude with contacts. It felt like there was a lot of bait and switch. They have a "package" with certain things included. Then there is an "embellishment boutique" that you can shop. There are pictures and a price. After we picked out what we wanted in the boutique, we actually got an order confirmation (see picture attached). But when it was time to pay, there was a different price. When we complained, they said the price in the boutique was just an estimate. The fine print in the contract does say "price estimates," but neither talking to them nor the boutique site makes that clear. For example, the "order confirmation" lists the wedding cake at $250.00, but then they said that, after talking to the bakery, it would be $530.00. The harpist is listed at $260.00 in the boutique, but they charged us $628.00. And she was terrible. She sounded like an amateur, playing one note at a time. For that much money, we expected her to play beautifully. It was just one of many disappointments. There was poor communication with the "Lead Wedding Concierge." She often took several days to get back to me. When I complained, Morgan said they tried to get back within 24 hours. It was rarely that soon. And several times, the concierge didn't get back to me at all until I asked again. Very frustrating. They said they could help with the dinner after the wedding. They have "Dinner Options" books with specific restaurants and menus with prices, for example, "menu option 1, $120/per person." It seemed pretty straightforward. So, we chose a restaurant and a menu option. For weeks, I kept getting the run around. They said they had put in a lot of calls but hadn't heard back from the restaurant. This place didn't take big groups. That place wasn't available. If there was anything available, it was 2-3 times more expensive than what was in their dinner options or what they had said in a call. We still did not have a place for dinner two weeks before the wedding! I scrambled around myself and finally found something, which I wish I had done in the first place. I could go on and on. Basically, I could have made an extra trip to Kauai and organized everything myself, and it would have saved me money, time, and grief. Very unhappy with Modern Elopement! read more

We wanted something small and intimate for our wedding and ME delivered. The first call with Morgan was a delight, she answered all of my questions and the process was smooth. We got our contact and read through it. Everything was explained perfectly so make sure you read the whole thing peeps! We paid the first payment and off we went on planning our wedding. The forms were easy and straightforward. After submitting our venue/flower requests, we went on to planning the dinner. At this time emails between our concierge were a bit lacking and she took a bit to reply (more than a day, sometimes two). I would've appreciated updates from her like "I'll be working on this and I'll get back to you next week" and actually get back to me or say something like "I'm sorry I was prioritizing another client I'll be with you shortly" besides not replying. But after a bit, we got our planner Lynsey and everything was perfect, communication, planning and execution before, during, and after. She was joined by Kat on the day of and they both are the sweetest, and detailed persons. Our day was perfect and I wouldn't have changed anything. Dinner at Roy's Ko Olina was fab, everyone loved it. We can't wait to get our professional pics back, we know it'll be amazing. And my make up the day of by Cherbu?! FLAWLESS. Due to the uncertainty of planning a wedding during the pandemic, we wanted a small wedding/ family trip to Hawaii. The venue I wanted to book required me to hire a wedding planner, so I started looking into their suggested vendor list. I decided to go with Modern Elopement because they specialized in small weddings and had the best aesthetics. I am so glad I hired Modern Elopement because they took care of everything and made planning a destination wedding very stress-free. The only caveat is that they charge their service fees on top of every vendor's fees after tax, so you're essentially paying double tax (once to the vendor and once to Modern Elopement). Hawaii tax is pretty high, so keep that in mind when you're budgeting. The great thing about Modern Elopement is that they are super accommodating. I did not like any of the makeup artists on their vendor list and wanted to find one that specialized in makeup for East Asians. I found a makeup artist myself and they were able to book her on my behalf. On the day of the wedding, my bouquet arrived at the hotel but was missing the flowers that I specified. The florist told me they did not have the flowers in stock that day. My wedding coordinator Leilani reassured me that I would get the exact bouquet I requested before my ceremony, and she made it happen! I still don't know how she pulled it off, but it totally made my day. Leilani was super sweet and attentive, she took care of me and the groom throughout the day, made sure we were hydrated during our photo shoot and made sure that our guests were comfortable. The owner of Modern Elopement threatened legal action if we left a review - so we'll start there. Long story short, we paid in full for their elopement package then later needed to cancel to sort out some personal concerns before getting married. When we cancelled our original date, the owner said she would honor the money spent on the package when we decide to reschedule. When we contacted Modern Elopement to reschedule, we were basically told to kick sand. Keep in mind, it's the wonderful photographers & florists that make these elopements look beautiful. It's important to know what kind of values the owner of a company has when doing business with them & in our opinion, they have none. They have been exceedingly rude to us at every line of communication - when all we wanted was the elopement package we paid for. There are lots of hidden fees and you could end up spending triple the initial fee they give you. If you look at their services, they say the same actions in multiple ways so it looks like you're getting more than you actually are. They could stand to be more transparent with cost and commission. Easy but also flexible! We've had a great time planning our elopement with Modern Elopement. Throughout the process, Nicole was always so helpful and was there for us when needed. I had a plenty of early morning Skype sessions before I went to work but I had fun planning the elopement with her (it was worth it!). We had our determined venue picked from the start so we build on from there. We asked for the particular photographer who wasn't listed in the option but they were kind enough to arrange the one we liked on the day. Also I had a vision about my flowers/bouquet, so I sent so many photos to tell them what I envisioned. They of course successfully executed and as a result, my bouquet was probably one of the favorite parts of the day. Other thing I asked to customize was the invitation. We wanted it to be original so that guests could get excited just seeing/reading the invites. Nicole has helped me a lot and worked very hard to get what I wanted. What can I say about a day that went *perfectly?* I am so, so happy I chose Modern Elopement for my "elopement" (read I my case, wedding) and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. After booking the package I decided that I wanted a more traditional wedding reception and so arranged for one on my own, and Kayleigh helped me blend the separate events seamlessly. Being an artsy person with a limited budget I also DIY'd a few of my own elements like place cards and a wedding sign and her team incorporated them flawlessly. She's always available to answer questions (albeit sometimes not immediately!). Overall Kayleigh took care of our every need, from working with a guest count from two different cultures that was larger than most, to having the ceremony blend seamlessly with my separate reception. We decided upon an elopement, and I am so happy we made that decision. It was super easy and stress-free! We made selections through online questionnaires to tailor the ceremony and reception dinner to our preferences (there were several options to choose from in terms of flower themes, photographers, etc.), then communicated via email to clarify certain details. It was an option to make more personalized selections for an extra cost if that matters to you, but my husband and I are easy-going people who don't take much joy in planning elaborate events, so this was just perfect in that we could pick and choose what we wanted or did not want without added hassle. Modern Elopement helped us plan our dream elopement on the Island of Oahu! What immediately drew me into the company was our initial phone call, I could tell that they were so passionate about weddings! I also liked that they had "lookbooks" of options that you could pick from like flowers, locations, dinner, etc. The lookbooks helped me visualize exactly what our big day was going to look like, which was very important to me. I also added some custom things like a custom cake, dinner reservations, and first dance, and they were extremely flexible and willing to accommodate requests. This took the Elopement to the next level because those custom touches are what make the day even more special. Nicole was our wedding planner, and by the end of our wedding day, we were sad to say goodbye! Throughout the process, we felt like we were old friends; she is such a genuinely sweet person! On the day of the wedding, we had rain, and Nicole managed to calm me down when I arrived at the venue. She also bustled my dress after the ceremony, which was a lifesaver. Our experience with Modern Elopements was absolutely amazing! When we arrived at our wedding we were COMPLETELY blown away how gorgeous the venue was. Kayleigh helped us throughout the entire process. She is really sweet, responsive, organized, and VERY good at what she does. The thought of having someone else plan and be in charge of every aspect of our wedding was difficult at first, but having Modern Elopements take over was the best decision that we made. They do a great job at keeping things simple and streamlined yet beautiful and personal. The flower arrangements that Passion Roots made beyond exceeded our expectations and were breathtaking.
