We hired Fred and Kate Events for our wedding at Lanikuhonua since the venue requires a licensed wedding planner. We chose their full-service package as this package included sourcing vendors for us, but hiring them turned out to be the biggest mistake of our wedding. 1. Subpar vendor sourcing The vendor recommendations were completely misaligned with our vibe and significantly overpriced. They provided only a single option per category with zero room for comparison. We ended up having to research, vet, and book almost all the other vendors ourselves to get the vibe we wanted at a much more affordable price point. 2. Day-of logistics & communication failure Despite asking for our bus driver's contact details in advance, the team did not coordinate with him. Our driver had to repeatedly call us directly on our wedding day while we were trying to get ready and enjoy the moment. When we brought this up to the team, the excuse given was simply, "Oh yeah, we have never worked with him before." As professional planners, coordinating with new vendors is the bare minimum expectation. 3. Rude and unprofessional attitude on the day A wedding planner should keep the atmosphere calm and positive. Instead, Tessa created unnecessary stress and hostility: a. Disrespectful to Our Officiant: Our officiant, a close friend who walked us through marriage preparation and flew all the way to Hawaii, politely asked Tessa a logistical question and was bluntly told, "Now is not the time to be asking these questions." Right before our march-in, she was openly talking rudely about him in front of our entire bridal party, killing the excitement and making everyone feel uncomfortable. b. Aggressive tone with groomsmen: During the groomsmen photoshoot, she snapped at one of the groomsmen for chewing gum, aggressively telling him: "Is that gum? You either spit it out or you swallow it." 4. Zero Accountability We hesitated to write a public review and reached out privately via email first to share our experience. We did a lot of research with our wedding vendors, and the planner was one of the most important. I wasn't able to make the initial meeting, so my partner talked with Tessa initially and she was nice enough to schedule a call with me separately to make sure they would be a good fit. When we decided to have our wedding in Waikiki, our friends referred us to Tessa and company, as they had an amazing experience working with them. We chose Fred and Kate as our wedding coordinator and it was one of the best decisions we made. From the beginning, Tessa was there every step of the way and answered the millions of questions I had. She also recommended our DJ (Spectrum Entertainment) who turned out to be the perfect fit for me and my EDM loving husband. Planning a destination wedding can be difficult, however Tessa made the whole process go smoothly. On the day of the wedding, Maya arrived early to help with whatever I needed. I asked her if she could help steam my dress and she said yes. To my pleasant surprise, she ended up steaming all of the bridesmaid dresses and the mother of the bride/groom dresses. We were not expecting her to do all of that, but it allowed us all to fully relax until the ceremony. As an operations manager, and since my partner is a designer, we both are extremely particular about logistics and aesthetics. The team was extremely thorough in helping us plan for the event, taking into account every possible variation and whim that we might have. My husband and I got married this past Sunday and the day went by so perfectly because their team did an incredible job at keeping everyone on time and managing the chaos. Tessa kept in contact with us until the very last minute the night before our wedding to ensure the timeline was exactly how we wanted the day to go and making sure all the details we wanted were perfectly executed. Even caught the error on my behalf and found a last minute arch for our ceremony to rent the night before the ceremony! Fred and Kate was recommended to us by our wedding venue and we were so fortunate that Tessa and her team were available to be our partial planner/day-of coordinator for our wedding day (12/29/2021). Well, to paint a picture for you... COVID-19 lockdown #2 happened in HI right in the middle of our planning. To say that Tessa was the real MVP of our wedding experience is a great understatement. I am not the girly girl type who knows exactly what decor she wanted for her wedding. Tessa was extremely patient with me, went above and beyond her role to make sure I had vendors and that we had something magical with our pretty low budget. She did not judge that our budget was small. Tessa worked a miracle and everything looked extremely elegant and breathtakingly beautiful. Working with her through the planning, through the lockdown, through the highs and lows of whether or not the wedding would happen was always a joy. She was always very transparent and optimistic. On the day of our wedding, my nail art got messed up. Tessa was already there to start coordinating vendor set up, etc. She let me borrow her car so that I could go get my nail fixed!! Tessa was exactly the right amount of "I'm gonna get sh*t done" but still be amazing and super fun to work with. So much so that I asked my husband after our wedding was over - "is it weird that I really miss talking to Tessa all the time?!" Tessa was incredibly helpful throughout our planning process giving us just the right amount of homework in between calls so we didn't get overwhelmed. She has amazing vendor recommendations at all price points, especially when it comes to food!, and she is careful to be conscious of your vision and your budget. Tessa also expertly helped us navigate through forever changing Covid restrictions and graciously, thoughtfully, and quickly helped us to reschedule by 3 months at the very last minute. It was insane.... I can honestly say the day of the wedding was the least stressful day out of the whole process for me because I knew whatever happened, Tessa would figure it out.
