Great dining place at downtown Morganton. Came in town to visit an old friend who live right at the downtown surrounding by all the business owners. The best deal on Wednesday is all wines are 50%. Two of us shared a bottle of Tilla Syrah Malbec. I had salmon that was well prepared but slightly well-done. The flavor was great. Let me start by saying the service was wonderful. So for that, they deserve 5 stars. However, the food. was the issue here. This steak was cooked medium. It is how I ordered it. But the only flavor on this filet was charcoal. I asked for a steak sauce and they had a berry sauce they offered me. But still, the steak wasn't good. For market price (which was $48 tonight for a 6 ounce) it was dry. It didn't have any unique taste that made it memorable. The manager did refund 75% of the cost of the meal, and I do appreciate it. I believe the menu should mention that the meat is chargrilled. My husband ordered beef skewers to go with the house special tonight of noodles with Asian sauce. He couldn't eat this steak either. It was so overcooked and again, no flavor. Just charcoal. Again, the cost of the skewers were removed off of the bill. So thank you for that. I'm giving this place 3-stars because we really wanted to love it. The ambiance was nice. We didn't have a reservation but were seated promptly. All of the employees were very welcoming. I had never been there before and half expected it to be closed given the weather and that it was a Wednesday night. It was just a 4 block wade from the hotel. I got there and had to wait 15 minutes for a table as it was that busy. All for good reason. The food was excellent and the staff wonderful. I had the "skinny goat", lightly battered medallions of goat cheese on a bed of salad followed by the Nashville hot chicken. Delicious! As a bonus, it appears that Wednesday if half of wine day. So we ended a mountain day with a stay at the new Fairfield Marriott in Morganton. Treat is without walking distance and after researching I knew I needed a reservation for a Saturday night. After a long day of hiking a and sight seeing I was ready for a good dinner. Treat was an outstanding end to our day. First it's October and the decor was perfect with original art and cool trinkets of the season everywhere. The food was perfection. My hubby had the filet that was cooked to perfection, I had the veggie tarian with added chicken and it was a top 20 of all time dish. Date night. Seated by the front door next to what I guess was an old bar or some shelf, but my chair was tucked so far under said shelf we had to move the table out. Asked for sweet tea, got unsweetened they swore was sweet. Asked for sweetener, got a cup of hot water with what I guess was supposed to be sugar syrup or some such. Didn't make a difference. My date's cocktail didn't show up until halfway through the entree. Ordered the curry. Tasted like Indian curry, not Thai. Who puts chick peas in curry?! Carrots and large onions were not bonuses either. Chicken was the worst - dry and way over cooked. My date ordered the hot chicken; also tasted like Indian spices and not the anticipated Nashville hot. Mashed potatoes are not a proper side dish but umkay. Meanwhile the party at the 6-top table next us left as we sat down. When we left, that table had yet to be cleared or cleaned. Not a good luck for a table in the front window. I ate there last Saturday at lunch time. I wasn't going to leave a review but the more I think about the more upset I get and here I am. We were COMPLETELY neglected by our waiter. She did not even clear our appetizer dishes until AFTER WE FINISHED our entrees. The waiter did not even check on us to see if everything was okay during our entrees. I think we saw our waiter a total of 3 times during the entire service. When she took our order she did not even write anything down. She forgot to put in two of the sides that o wanted. We did not even had a chance to tell our waiter because it seems like she was avoiding our table. This was one of the worst experiences that I have ever had in a restaurant and I will never ever be eating there again. The chicken had a very nice kick to it and was worth the price. My fiancé ordered the shrimp pasta with zoodles. Cooked very well, but it was a little small for me, but not for her. Great place with incredible staff. I sat at the bar on a Sat evening and had a great experience. The bartender was great to talk with as well as made some great lookin drinks. I had the Brussels Sprout App that was very tasty with 2 side dips if you choose to use. I also had a spicy shrimp and pasta dish that had great flavor. The shrimp was perfectly cooked. Unfortunately the pasta was over cooked and the dish was short on the sauce. I spent two weeks in Morganton and whenever I visit a small town there's always a little concern about finding vegetarian options, but I could have eaten at Treat every day during my stay. Located in the heart of downtown, Treat is very much a staple amongst the community. The restaurant was full of personality with cute little dining nooks, but I opted to sit outside to take advantage of the lovely evening. The menu had an eclectic variety of comfort foods. I narrowed it down to two appetizers: brussel sprouts and tostones and my main was greens topped with pea fritters. The brussels were browned with crispy bits and tender parts. The dipping sauces were both so good that I couldn't decide which one I liked more. The tostones were a surprise to see on the menu, so I had to try it. This dish could have been a meal in itself. It came with 5 perfectly crispy plantains atop a generous bed of smashed black beans. I'm normally not a fan of mango salsa, but it really added a freshness to the dish. I borrowed spicy ranch and the goat cheese dips from my brussels sprouts to switch up the bites. The salad arrived and I realized just how generous the portions were. The pea fritter salad bursted with flavor. The outside of the fritters were crispy, the inside was soft and peas were incorporated throughout. The chopped pieces of the pea pods and creamy feta cheese added lovely textures and seasonal freshness. The owner came around to speak with every one of the patrons and I thanked her for having really thoughtful vegetarian options. Her response was that a treat should be for everyone. read more

We are in town on our way to KC for Christmas. Enjoyed a beer at Catawba Brewing Co and the bartender recommended Treat. It definitely was a treat. Great ambience and friendly staff. Decor was Christmas cozy, music was subtle holiday songs. Food was delicious. I ordered rigatoni with mushrooms, steak tips and a creamy Alfredo-like sauce. Hubs ordered chicken Parmesan. My wife and I visited Treat for an anniversary dinner as part of a hiking trip in the mountains. Our server was pleasant and efficient and offered good explanations on the drinks, specials and menu items we had questions on. The cocktails were creative and well done. Normally I don't pay for table bread but the bread service was excellent , clearly home made bread , parmesean butter and oil toppings . I had the salmon special with brussell spouts and potatoes . The portion was generous and was well prepared and tasty . My wife had chicken parmesean and also commented on the portion and the taste. This has been my 5th visit to treat in the past year so I can confidently say this was not a one off. But it's tricky. The servers are excellent so this it not a reflection on them. The food is also excellent. However it regularly takes over an hour for entrees to come out. It took 15 minutes for drinks to come out, 30 minutes for bread, and over an hour for three entrees. I have had the same experience on a weeknight and a weekend. Worth a visit but be prepared for the food to take a minute! read more

However, it took an entire hour for us to receive our meals. 3 other parties seated after us received their food and paid their bills before we even received our food. When I mentioned the frustration with the delay to the manager she said she would check with the kitchen but that "we are all humans so mistakes happen".
